I think you're doing soton a disservice. Not making excuses but they have heavily invested in the squad and have been playing well. They also have one of the brightest young prospects in the country in Luke Shaw so I think it's a little unfair to expect it to be an easy 3 pointer, even against the other title contenders soton will give them all a game.
Regardless, if we can not be confident of beating Southampton at OLD TRAFFORD any longer then why are we even competing for the premier league?

coogar: david beckham is simply a hype generated by the english media. if he's nigerian, he wouldn't even make the super eagles team. how come finidi george(who's supremely more talented than beckham) never made it to the top 300 of footballers in europe?
if berbatov was english, he would be valued @ £200m because there would be a massive hype from the media about him. that's the way football works in europe. the british hype gassed gareth bale up & he suddenly became £86m in value. is bale better than nani or even nasri? you either come from a big footballing country or play for a big club to reach those top 10 heights.
okocha is 50,000 times better than beckham but he won't get near becks on the player ranking cos he's nigerian & his best shot was playing for bolton fc. tony valencia of 09/10 that destroyed bayern munich at old trafford was head & shoulders better than beckham of 98/99 season - all the wingers we have had in the senior team since beckham left are all better as well including ashley young. Are you comparing seasons or overall ability? Maybe I should scroll up to check the genesis of the debate. Forget about awards and what not...on ability alone, Beckham is better. I'm not even a fan of Beckham but he's technically better than Valencia especially in their primary roles. There is no debate here. |

RuuDie: Like you've rightly pointed out...there are way too many other factors and variables that determine who gets voted for individual awards.
For me, I do not judge based on the individual / team awards of the player but what I can "visibly" see a player do. From where I stand, in terms of ability, Tony V shades it a little over Becks.
My personal all-time best footie player, Juan Roman Riquelme, never won a pin, never featured prominently for a 'big' european side, was never prized more than the 'average' player... but I know what he does and can do with the ball at his feet! Hahahaha...what abilities does Valencia possess that shades it over Beckham? Guys abeg don't make this thread a laughing stock. I can't even take you guys serious on this debate. |

superstar1: You are entitled to your opinion. I gave mine.
I don't have energy for argument and going forth and back. No one will pay me for doing so.
If he is spectacular, he can be compared with the aforementioned people.
Messi and Ronaldo were being compared with Maradona, Pele, Zico and Platini from their early 20s. That is being sensational, exceptional and spectacular.
If he is not being compared with those people yet at early 20s , he is just good for good. Simple. This is laughable. First of, Messi and Ronaldo are special talents and I don't see their point in this discussion. Logic should tell you, you can not compare Makelele and Viera to Pogba who is 20 years old. If you want to compare them - compare their achievements at the same age - now that would be plausible. Yea you are right - no point going back and forth on the issue. |

superstar1: This is where u claimed he is.
Read my post v well. I said he is good but not spectacular yet. I have watched virtually all Juve's matches from beginning of last season. He does not even enforce himself on the game. He could be lackadaisical atimes but he has te strength to hold and shield ball from opponents and his shots are powerful but accuracy is less than 10%. Don't be a liar! It was you that made that statement...I only re-affirmed what you said...do you really have to lie? It's not rocket science now Did I need to put it in quote to know I was emphasising on your point? You claimed he is good but you expect him to be spectacular, so what is wrong with being good? So we should let our youngsters leave even when we know they are good because they are not spectacular yet? And your comparison to Vieira and Makelele is a disgrace to say the least... |

Is he in the class of Makalele. Viera Toure Busquet Keane Gattuso and Essien. Those are people that played his position and enforce themselves on the game.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chamotex(m): 4:29pm On Oct 08, 2013 |
elampiro: Your post above refers:
1. You surprised me. Is it at the end of a season you break into a team? You have still not showed me where I said at the END (underline 'end') of the season.
2. In the blackburn match, Anderson was also on the bench. We didn't have a defence so SAF needed a good cover for the backline. Also Rafael (and I think Fabio too) had done well in the midfield in prior games, both league and Carling cup I think. Pogba never really proven to be purposeful, turning left and right like those few days when Jay Jay Okocha had an off day on the pitch.
3. Our midfield was in tattered because those who held the keys to our early dominance had retired to injuries. Anderson, Cleverly and Fletcher. The the backline that played behind them were also injured- Jones, Rafael, Smalling. In the pre-season they beat Barca, beat Man. City in the shield, I think they had done outstandingly well until injuries tore them apart, from the defence to the midfield. Then SAF experimented with some other guys including Pogba, and it was bad. Pogba was part of the tattered era. You are smarter than this...don't prove otherwise You mentioned 11/12 as a whole and I gave you a specific (end) period where he should have played when we were struck with injuries in his position. Whether it was at the start or end it was still in that season. My emphasis on 'end' was that if he wasn't ready in April/May like you claimed, how come he was ready a couple of months later...it doesn't make sense. Don't ever come here and lie to us again...Rafael had never played CM for United before...in fact that was his first and last game he ever played in CM. With the way you talk I am not even sure you watch these games. The only other time they started in our midfield was against Arsenal in the FA cup and both twins played on the wings not in CM. Gibson and O'Shea played CM. The Anderson you claimed was not fit. He had only played one game in 2 months prior to that Blackburn game due to injuries and that was why he started from the bench. Elampiro you are a pathological liar - kindly tell me when and where SAF experimented with Pogba and how it went wrong. Pogba never started a game for United. He had 7 substitute appearances between September and March In the games he came on as a sub, United won all the games apart from the Bilbao and Crystal Palace match so tell us how the experiment went bad please. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chamotex(m): 4:04pm On Oct 08, 2013 |
superstar1: All these arguments won't bring pogba and Morrison back. Pogba dint really want to stay and Fergie dint rate him highly too. Morrison was simply as area boy and Utd as an institution has more to loss in terms of reputation/brand image by retaining the thug and him continuing in his truancy ways.
The club is simply bigger than any player. Players go, player come but the club go remain".
Let us be realistic and not sentimental, Pogba is not doing anything spectacular in Juve. Maybe as he grows older, he will continue to evolve into his mentor's role, Viera. I watch Juve's matches specifically because of pogba but my judgment is, he is good but not spectacular yet.
As for Morrison, can't say anything about that dude. Saw him against spurs in a very long time. I enjoyed his maradonic/messi runs for the goal, I hope he is able to sustain the tempo. I also hope he won't be the new Gascogne of our time.
Januzaj can only get better. He exhumes confidence and the aura of rare gem is all around him. I hope one injury will not let him regress cleverly. Cleverly was also promising before his injury. He was quite impressive in the last match though. He is good...but he has to be spectacular? Wow |
Where did I mention at the end of 11/12?
Was it someone else that typed this? Pogba was not capable of breaking into our 1st team of 2011/12. Someone should tell me where exactly we should have played Progba in the hot title race of 2011/12? Our midfield was in tatters for some period between December and Januray which was why Rafael and Park played against Blackburn...wasn't that enough reason for him to play? And in January Scholes even had to come out of retirement. Isn't that another reason? SAF tried a lot of things and we were sinking until Scholes returned to pair Carrick in January. Here you claimed we were 'sinking' but in a few posts before that you claimed we had the midfield to dominate Europe. |

elampiro: Pogba was not capable of breaking into our 1st team of 2011/12. Had he waited for 12/13 he could have gotten a chance. Na wa o Pogba was not capable of breaking into the team at the end of 11/12 but was capable at the start of 12/13. How much of Pogba did you watch in those days? We had the midfield to rule Europe that was why Scholes was recalled from retirement. Do you even re-read stuffs you type? No one expected him to be starting but a few substitute appearances here and there would have been sufficient enough. For that Blackburn game, Fergie played Rafael and Park in CM...how degrading was that? That was the day he should have been unleashed. If I was him I wouldn't even want to train any longer after that day |
