Jose Mourinho will open his second spell in charge of Chelsea with a home date against Premier League new boys Hull City. The return of Mourinho to English football has created quite a buzz - and not just around Stamford Bridge. Having guided Chelsea to five major honours during his first stint in west London - including two Premier League titles - the Portuguese tactician will be hoping to sprinkle his magic dust over the Blues once again. He has wasted little time in reshaping a squad inherited from interim coach Rafa Benitez and will want to ensure that the struggles of recent years - which have left Chelsea sweating on their involvement in the UEFA Champions League - are put firmly to one side. While nothing less than a charge towards the top flight crown will be accepted by the Blues, Hull City would be happy to end the campaign with a standing among English football's elite safely cemented. The Tigers lasted two seasons the last time they graced this level, but will need no reminding how difficult it can be for sides stepping out of the Championship to find their feet at the top table. Steve Bruce's experience could be crucial, and he will be looking to get points on the board early to help calm any nerves and avoid making the 2013/14 campaign more of a challenge than it is already shaping up to be. Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard continued his return from an Achilles injury with a substitute run-out for England in their 3-2 friendly victory over Scotland on Wednesday and could come into consideration for a starting berth. David Luiz and Juan Mata have been nursing knocks through pre-season, restricting their involvement, and Mourinho has regularly expressed that he will not be rushing either back into action. Summer signings Marco van Ginkel and Andre Schurrle will be hoping to make their Premier League bows at some stage, but veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer will have to make do with a place on the bench as he looks to challenge Petr Cech for the number one spot. Hull City manager Bruce is expected to blood a host of summer signings in the capital on Sunday. Goalkeeper Allan McGregor, defenders Maynor Figueroa and Curtis Davies and strikers Danny Graham and Yannick Sagbo have all been heavily involved in pre-season, while midfield pair Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore go straight into the squad following their arrival from Tottenham Hotspur this week. Republic of Ireland international Stephen Quinn is the only senior player carrying an injury and will miss out with a hamstring complaint. http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/295711/preview |
David Moyes' first Premier League game in charge of champions Manchester United is at Swansea on Saturday evening. Moyes claimed early silverware last weekend as his Red Devils side beat Wigan 2-0 in the FA Community Shield clash. That was only United's third pre-season win from eight games. Robin van Persie, who topped the Premier League scoring chart with 26 goals last season, netted a brace at Wembley and will continue to be the main man with question marks hanging over team-mate Wayne Rooney. The unsettled striker played for 67 minutes of England's 3-2 friendly win over Scotland in midweek and showed no signs of injury, but the extent of his involvement at the Liberty Stadium remains to be seen. Moyes is yet to make a signing at United, but his counterpart Michael Laudrup has spent around £20million on a host of new faces including striker Wilfried Bony, midfielders Jonjo Shelvey and Alejandro Pozuelo, and defender Jordi Amat. Another midfielder, Jose Canas, has also arrived on a free transfer. Swansea's competitive campaign began at the start of the month with a 4-0 aggregate victory over Malmo in the third round of Europa League qualifying. That came after a series of seven straight pre-season wins in which Laudrup's men scored 28 goals and conceded just one. The equivalent fixture last season just before Christmas was most memorable for the incident which saw Ashley Williams kick a loose ball which struck van Persie's head at close range. Sir Alex Ferguson's outrage overshadowed the game itself in which Michu's first-half equaliser cancelled out Patrice Evra's opener. In the return game in May - Ferguson's last at Old Trafford - Rio Ferdinand secured a 2-1 home win late on. Swansea ended a run of six successive opening-day defeats with a 5-0 win at QPR last season. United have lost just two of their last 17 opening league fixtures, though one of those was last year at Moyes' Everton. Jonathan de Guzman will miss out for Swansea against the champions due to concussion. The Dutch midfielder was hurt in a training-ground collision with Dirk Kuyt while on international duty and could also miss the first leg of the Europa League play-off at home to Petrolul Ploiesti on Thursday. Pablo Hernandez and Jonjo Shelvey are available again after their respective groin injury and illness, while Wilfried Bony is set to feature despite only arriving back from Ivory Coast's friendly against Mexico in New Jersey late on Thursday night. David Moyes must decide whether to include Wayne Rooney in the squad for his first Premier League game as Manchester United manager at Swansea. Rooney completed 67 minutes of his first game of the summer when England defeated Scotland on Wednesday and is expected to be on the bench at the Liberty Stadium. Rafael and Javier Hernandez (both hamstring) and wing duo Nani and Ashley Young are all expected to be sidelined, so Wilfried Zaha stands by for his first top flight start, although Michael Carrick should recover from the eye infection which kept him out of England's friendly. http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/287293/preview |
Arsenal have a number of injury concerns to deal with ahead of their Premier League opener at home to Aston Villa. Arsenal begin their Premier League title bid at home to Aston Villa still chasing a number of new signings. Wenger has been busy reshaping his squad this summer, but it has been players leaving rather than new arrivals coming in. The Frenchman has been linked with a host of names, including Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Julio Cesar, but as yet Yaya Sanogo remains the only new face at the Emirates. 17 players have left the club this summer as Wenger looks to trim his squad, but he has so far been frustrated in his attempts to bring in the big-name players he has targeted. Villa on the other hand moved quickly in the transfer window to bolster their squad with the likes of Nicklas Helenius, Antonio Luna, Aleksandar Tonev, Jores Okore, Leandro Bacuna and Jed Steer all arriving at Villa Park. Paul Lambert will be hoping to see his side push on this term in his second season in charge after battling against relegation for most of last year. Villa's young squad will be better for the experiences of last season and persuading Christian Benteke to stay and sign a new contract could be the best piece of business this summer. Arsene Wenger has been rocked by the news that key midfielder Mikel Arteta faces up to six weeks on the sidelines after picking up a thigh injury. Thomas Vermaelen and Abou Diaby are long-term casualties for Arsenal, while full-back Nacho Monreal is also sidelined through injury. Per Mertseacker will captain Arsenal in the absence of the injured Vermaelen. Aaron Ramsey is fit to play after missing Wales' friendly draw with Republic of Ireland Wenger will make a late decision on Santi Cazorla's fitness after returning from international duty with Spain from a gruelling trip to Ecuador. Arsenal's only summer signing to date Yaya Sanogo is in the squad and could make his debut. Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert expects to be without midfielder Yacouba Sylla for their Premier League opener at Arsenal. The energetic Mali international is struggling with a twisted ankle suffered in a youth team game earlier this week and is unlikely to have overcome it in time for the trip to north London. Versatile midfielder Chris Herd (calf) is also highly unlikely to feature but Lambert has no other concerns unless any of his men return from international duty with new injuries. http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/287286 |
elampiro: But this transfer stuff is rather too late. Why should we be adding players after playing few matches first?I don't care if we sign a player on the last minute of the window as long as its a quality/marquee signing that will improve the sqaud...not some last minute panic buy. We did it with Berbatov. Someone like Modric doesn't need time to settle in England or the Premiership, he might just need a few games to understand his team mates. At all at all... |
nitlad: Lol...Haha you are worried about my return I see Nothing for you here again ![]() Just pack your stuff and leave this thread |
caribchic: Hi friend!...i happen to like vampiresYou like being bitten? |
Modric is good but a tad overhyped! Mesut is the livewire at Madrid! Shut him down and Madrid crash
That's at Madrid. We dont need Ozil. Modric is what we need |
Br3nd4: Not just saying. Lets have the goodies.Ermm I'm shy ![]() |
