coogar: i really don't think we were crap today cos of the lack of a defensive midfielder - none of the goals conceded could have been prevented by tiote/dembele or even yaya toure. I think the problem is more a general laziness of the team. we don't press at all. we let opponents stroll to the centre of the pitch before we offer any resistance to disrupt their flow!

the players still have this slight delusion that vidic/rio/carrick are what they used to be 3-4 years ago....the rest of the team tend to leave so much for the defence to do. evra/rafael are fantastic going forward but not so great at defending! they play like wingers and when we don't have the ball, they take forever to fall back into position! our biggest problem is our organisation when we don't have the ball - its horribly substandard!
We were poor for most parts.
Most teams we play these days dominate us far too easily.
They attack our fullbacks with ease and slice through our midfield without breaking sweat.

You are right, we should be pressing teams like Southampton from the front and get the ball off them as quickly as possible.
If we play a Barca side the way we played today, it could be a disaster.
We need a voice in midfield to organise things (someone that will scream and shout. Keano-ish) . . . Carrick is too quiet, Scholes barely talk - the rest are still young.

We really miss Fletcher's tenacity and combative attitude
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chamotex(m): 7:42pm On Sep 02, 2012
Cristalz: Scholes was good today, but that doesn't make him an all-time hero.
The last horrible game he had, I remember nearly everyone calling for his small head and A-40 was talking about retirement.

Kagawa was good last weekend. I can forgive him one bad performance.

Dunno what's going on with Welbeck. Dude should go on loan somewhere till he gets his football groove back.

It's ironic that the day we get our regular defenders back we ship in goals.....again. Perhaps Fergie should seriously reconsider his stand on a DM.
Play was poor today, but you gotta give it to Southampton. They gave the game their all and I dare say they deserved to win based on overall performance.
Fergie is a stubborn goat.
We are the only team in Europe without a natural DM in the whole squad.

StarBoard: @chamotex,
What's worrying is that we had our first choice centre-back pairing and they struggled against a promoted side.
It's still down to the shape of our midfield.
If you put the best defence together and they don't get much protection, they will suffer.
It's frustrating the way teams get at us easily and penetrate us in midfield.
Most teams have now recognised they can have a go at us . . . the fear facto is no longer there.
We are now susceptible to aerial balls now. What most teams will do this season is to put a big man up front to cause chaos the way they did with Lambert today.
I reckon that's why De Gea was on the bench also.
We've conceded 3 headed goals already in 3 games.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chamotex(m): 6:19pm On Sep 02, 2012
StarBoard: We didn't have any sense if purpose till Scholes came in.
You are right. He changed the tempo of our passes. Not sure if he should have started though, Southampton had already dropped off at that time.

It was a poor performance . . . I worry about our defending. We concede goals easily these days and mostly all teams rip us to shred and attack us with ease.
Like I've always said, scoring goals is not our problem, we need to start keeping clean sheets
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by chamotex(m): 2:11pm On Sep 02, 2012

I believe we can give City a run for their money.
We've been through this situation many times before where we have been branded as the under dog but I expect this team to bounce back.
Plus I expect the team to learn from last season's shenanigans.
My only problem is with Fergie not picking the right team. He tinkering last season cost us some crucial points.
If everyone is fit and on form, with Fergie playing his strongest line up whether its Wigan or Accrington Stanley, we should challenge for the title.
City are still favourites but that's only on paper.
We will know how the season will pan out better towards October/November.

debosky: ^^ What is Phelan doing? Sitting on their backs everyday and making them run laps round the OT pitch? grin
Phelan is the worst assistant we've ever had.
If he can sit on the bench wearing shorts in winter then he can do the above. He's that clueless.

Not late . . . just didn't want to believe it.
Fergie should look into the training regime - hope its not too rigorous.

Hugoboi: Meanwhile, rumours abound that United have made a late bid of €25 mil in an attempt to hijack Joao Moutinho from Tottenham. I hope it isn't just a rumor anyway.
Rumour!

montelik: What do some think about a loan move for Essien of Chelsea. No doubt he has seen much better days, but he could provide some steel and verve if needed. No doubt he isn't anywhere near as good, but he would easily be an upgrade over Giggs and Scholes who are liabilities when we aren't totally bossing the game.
Essien's real age is probably above Scholes and Giggs' (no difference)
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by chamotex(m): 10:46pm On Aug 30, 2012
debosky: We won't sign anyone else - that's my prediction.

For us to be even thinking of adding Essien (another crock) to our growing list of 3-4 midfielders out injured is preposterous.

Glad to see Wenger laughing and relaxed though. . . .unlike last year when he looked like someone who got beaten up. grin

All that matters now is that this damned window closes and we know where we stand.
Wrong!
Wenger watched Elokobi tonight. It's going to happen

coogar: a sad day for all football purists!
i would miss berbatov - the most gifted footballer of his generation. he gave his all to the most self-centred manager in the world in fergie and that faith was never returned. when rooney harangued the club to get more money, berbatov led the attack and scored goals that took us to the league title - how was he rewarded? a place on the bench! in the biggest game of that season, fergie chose michael owen ahead of the golden boot winner of the premier league.......

.
I'm having a trial with Wembley FC in September, so be prepared to see me on TV soon in the FA Cup. cheesy

afrodoc: @chamotex. Howuz buttner's game,especially defensively?
I tink united has a greater need for a tiote or m'vila than a dembele.someone wit steel who can also play.IMO tiote's passing ability is under rated.wt he needs is better players round him n a bit of discipline
Buttner did okay. . . nothing more.
He wasn't really tested defensively but you can tell he loves to attack. He loves to dribble and attempted some step overs to try to beat full backs when attacking which was good.

But I think he would look better playing with the big guns as he doesn't seem fazed at all. Then again this is just one game but the ability is definitely there.

Evans did really well too and completed 90 minutes, so did Fletcher.
