coogar: but having 2 slots for them in the starting team is better than just one position. 4-2-3-1 is too defensive. the striker is often starved with no services at all. in my opinion, 4-4-2 is the best but these days, managers have started positioning players between the lines and that can hurt real bad. that was where messi kept positioning himself and rio/vidic were clueless. they didn't know whether to follow him too deep or just stand and watch until he comes attacking. 4-1-3-2 is similar to the 4-4-2 formation. The debate has always been how effective will Sneijder be in that formation. |

^^^We've got like 7/8 strikers anyway . . . . way too much. Last night we play 4 of them (now add Chachrito, Welbeck and Berbatov) So even if we play with 3 forwards, they cant all get games. |

montelik: Obertan is looking a lot better than last season. I hope he can at least carry some of this into d season proper. He's done well but I wont read too much into these pre-season games. It's a different ball game entirely when the season starts. He strikes me as a player that needs regular games to build his confidence . . .the question is will he get those games? Very unlikely. |

ritchboy: What Coogar has posted is where the players would be when they're attacking. When defending Sneijder will drop deeper to partner Carrick. If 37 y/o Giggs can play the role, Sneijder can! I know that is the attacking overview but its too risky. Sneijder is not particularly defensive minded in any way . . . he's not the kind of player that will be happy to drop off deep behind the ball at all times. If they all drop off when defending . . . it only confirms what I've said earlier that its similar to the 4-4-2 formation anyways with Carrick the Dm and Sneijder the AM. |

coogar: 4-1-3-2 has wingers in the "3". germany used 4-2-3-1 at the world cup, using muller and podolski as wingers with ozil in the centre.
i am saying. . .
----------de gea----------
raf-----rio---vidic----evra
---------carrick------------
valencia----sneijder---young/nani
-----chicharito-----rooney------ Coogar, we cant play this formation (its possible at OT) . . . its too open and will expose our back four especially away from home. It is similar to a 4-4-2 anyway with Carrick holding and Sneijder in the hole behind the strikers. I prefer the 4-2-3-1 with wingers in the "3" |

4-1-3-2? No wingers? Fergie would rather die He loves his hot wings 4-2-1-3? This is slightly similar to the 4-3-3 we play sometimes. No qualms We need a CM tho . . . If we get struck by injuries which will inevitably happen during the course of the season, we would struggle. |

coogar: schweinsteiger de rossi mesut ozil khedira **tiote** The only player that I fancy there is Schweiny. Never been a fan of Ozil, poor work rate and stamina and he would be the worst player to play in a 4-4-2 Khedira and Tiote are defensive CM's but I'd take De Rossi though for tenacity and his never-say-die attitude. Perfect for a 4-4-2 formation. |

"Forget it. We are looking at some things but I am not so sure Sneijder will be easy to get. I could pick three or four players to come in but they wouldn't be good enough for us, so there is no point.
"I would be happy enough [to continue with the present squad]. Maybe I am a bit overloaded in the strikers' positions. The alternatives in midfield are not nearly as strong. But I have a good squad." |

proudly9ja: ^^^ I checked the date before posting and since I couldn't find a link to support your info, I was (and still am) torn between accepting your word or that of skysports. You know the one Id rather stick to!
Whether we sign him or not, he won't add anything to us next season as he'l be going on loan. But like you said, if we can't sign this guy it says a lot about our ability to attract top 'young' players.
Having said that, I am also not really keen on these foreign youngsters anymore. I won't be surprised if the new one from Spain decides to leave after one season here. If their aim is to have one good season at Arsenal and then start crying for mummy, then maybe we should just stick to young English players. Skysports reported today that the deal is off |

debosky: ^^ True
But apart from Chelski I don't think there are many clubs looking for/can afford a midfielder like Schneider. If Utd do actually want him and pay, then it's unlikely anyone else will jump in. Corinthians could you know |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: In Fergie We Trust! by chamotex(op): 10:27pm On Jul 14, 2011 |
Ibime: You don't have to play one striker with Sneijder. That's a myth. If Utd can play two midfielders with Paul Scholes, then they can do the same with Sneijder cos Sneijder is more hardworking than Scholes (in his older years). Sneijder has played in a two man midfield with Ajax many times, and two man midfield with Real with RVN and Raul upfront. Infact for a long period at Ajax, Sneijder mostly played left midfield whilst De Jong and Steven Pieenar occupied the central positions. You do lose some goal threat though, which makes a mockery of the £35m transfer fee, as for that fee, you should have a ninja copping at least 15 goals a season. Of course we cant . . . but how effective will it be? (Especially in the 'big' games). We can do that against lower oppositions no doubt . . . but why pay that huge sum of money We barely played Scholes in a 2 man midfield in any important game. I dont mind Sneijder. . . .but for 35m (a club record)? |
