This is very sad. A graduate of Abia State University (ABSU), has died after being involved in a road accident. It was scooped that the deceased identified as Joel was crushed to death after falling off a motorcycle around Okigwe expressway on his way to Umuahia, Abia state capital.

He was said to have been avoiding a moving trailer before he fell down on the road and was crushed to death by it. 

He died on the spot. His corpse has been deposited at the mortuary.

His friends and colleagues who were shocked with the sad news, have taken to social media to mourn the loss. 

May his soul rest in peace.

The Delta state task force chairman of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Chief Akpokevughe, has been murdered.

According to reports, the deceased who has been the task force chairman for over and refused to step aside, was assassinated in his vehicle yesterday along Sapele-Warri road in Delta state.

It was said that the deceased was shot about eight times in the head as the assassins ensured he died in their presence before taking off. 

Rumour also has it that Chief Akpokevughe has many enemies and has stepped on many toes due to the kind of work he oversees. 

The police has been made aware of the murder as an investigation into the matter has been launched.

A lady, Amaka Nwa, has narrated how she was involved in an accident along with other passengers after boarding a faulty bus. According to her, the passengers had complained to the driver about the bus not being okay. The driver insisted that the bus was sound not knowing what awaited them few minutes later.

According to Amaka, the driver bashed the bus just three minutes into the journey before he abandoned them and fled.

So I was in this vehicle, I survived the accident.

You see this transport company(PEACE) they play too damn much. This happened yesterday.This was three minutes into the journey, passengers complained about the bus not being sound, driver told us that the bus brake was acting funny, we complained and said it was still early and we could transload to a new bus very fast. Like play like play, driver lied that the brake was fine already.

The minute he jumped back into the road, the bus lost control and sped carelessly, it switched lanes with speed and bashed into this car. 

I don't know if its greed of not wanting to loose his money that the driver thought to manage a faulty brake for a long distance journey. 

The driver even ran away.

Some persons were injured, the manager came to the scene and said no refund, he was going to bring another bus, me and some persons disagreed following the transport company again, it was until a passerby that witnessed the accident slapped him that he brought out money to refund us.

Thank God for my life, please be careful of buses these days, most of them are so unfit to mount the road..

The acting president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, this evening paid a visit to the site of the building collapse in Abuja. He was accompanied by government officials as he condoled with the families of those affected in the mishap. 

A four-storey building under construction collapsed at about 2 p.m. Friday. The building is situated within Jabi/Utako park, directly opposite Panda shopping mall in Abuja.

Two people are feared dead from the incident.

The incident caused heavy gridlock with many residents and passersby converging at the spot of the collapse.

According to multiple witnesses, many people are currently inside the debris while two people have been reported dead.

Witnesses said poor construction contributed to the collapse.

Some rescue victims including the contractor who have various degrees of injuries have been rushed to hospital.

There was massive jubilation by a huge crowd in the Jalingo residence of Hajiya Aisha Alhassan, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development who is popularly known as Mama Taraba. The minister arrived Taraba state from Abuja after attending the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo. 

She was welcomed warmly by the large crowd who gathered at her residence to receive her as her security aides had a tough time in controlling the supporters.  

Meanwhile, Speaking at the 18th Regular National Council Meeting by the Women Affairs and Social Development held in Lagos on Thursday, Alhassan said she would stay in the ruling party to contest the 2019 governorship election.

She said, ”Contrary to whatever speculations going round, I will remain in APC to contest Governorship election of Taraba State.”

There was a mild drama in Lagos metropolis after a young man resisted to be arrested by police officers attached to the Lagos task force. The policemen tried to bundle the man into their waiting vehicle, but he firmly resisted as he claimed his innocence. 

While the man was resisting the arrest, his friend who tried to interfere, got kicked away by one of the policemen. 

After causing much scene in public, the policemen had to let the man to go. 

Meanwhile, Lagos States Government yesterday arraigned 50 suspects before Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi of Court 4, Ikeja Magisterial District over an attacked and vandalisation of government equipment (caterpillar) around Idansan Village, Ibeju, Lekki, Lagos.

Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi disclosed that these 50 arraigned suspects including 4 girls attacked officials of Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) while on official duties demolishing illegal shanties errected on acquired land and set fire on a caterpillar belonging to the government.

A man who was falsely accused and imprisoned for "killing his neighbour" after taking her to the hospital, has regained his freedom after two years.  The man identified as Mr Chidiebere Onwumere, a native of Umuagbaghagha village in Osisioma local government area of Abia state, was jailed after being accused of killing his neighbour, late Uzochi Chinyere, who lived in same compound with him.
 
Narrating his ordeal to Abia Facts Newspaper after his release from Nigerian prisons in Afara, Umuahia on Tuesday, Mr Chidiebere who was full of praises to God for vindicating him after two years of suffering for a crime he knew nothing about, said it was in his bid to save a neighbour that caused him to suffer this injustice.
 
He said,  "I came back to where I was residing at Umujiji, Isiahia Osisioma around 6pm after 2 weeks in my village where I went to harvest and process palm fruits only to see my neighbour lying helpless and very weak and I decided to assist her to the hospital with the help of other neighbours since none of her blood relations was around".
 
"A pastor who resides within the neigbourhood took us with his car to a nearby hospital called Shiloh hospital where the doctor after examining him asked us to deposit 5000 naira to enable him conduct a text that will determine exactly what was wrong with her, I and some other neighbours contributed the money and made the deposit, when the result came out the doctor told us that she was on substance overdose and was knocked out by the illegal substance, he assured us that he will treat her and she will be well again".
 
 "The next morning Mr Promise the elder brother to the deceased, arrived the hospital and insisted on taking her away to another hospital against the doctor’s advice, but he insisted and took her to an unknown destination".
 
"After a few days Promise came back to our compound and took me to World Bank police station Aba where he handed me over to the police claiming that I beat her sister to death".

"Despite pleas by neigbours and other relations of the deceased that my hands are clean and that there was a doctors report stating that their sister died of substance abuse, Promise insisted and filed a murder charge against me and I was arraigned on suit no. U/520c/2016 and remanded in prison custody since June 2016 till date if not for Barrister Jerry Uzosike who God used to vindicate and bring me out of prison today".

Barrister Uzosike after leading Chidiebere out of prison asked him to go home to his family and reintegrate himself back into the society,insisting that the system must seek ways to not only address such injustice but design a befitting compensation for victims of injustice.

A woman has been arrested after allegedly pouring hot water on a little boy recently in Jigawa. According to reports, the woman believed to be the second wife, out of jealously, allegedly scalded the little boy with hot water to spite his mother (her rival and their husband) in Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State...

The little boy is currently undergoing medical treatment in the hospital under the care of his mother and the alleged attacker, arrested by the police. 

The woman will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The executive director of a non-governmental organisation, Dise Ogbise-Erhisere has rescued two teenage children from domestic violence at imiringi in Yenagoa Bayelsa State.

Speaking to newsmen, Dise Ogbise-Erhisere said the mother of the children has on several occasions according to neighbours consistently assaulted her children with punity.

He said a concerned neighbour intervened but was injured in the process by the mother of the children adding that the woman threw a big stone at his eyes causing severe damage and pain to the man.

However, the man has reported the matter to the police but the woman escaped before the police could reach the scene of crime.

Dise Ogbise-Erhisere, who is also the Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Sagbama branch took the children for protective custody.

She expressed worry that the children stayed with neighbours( men) for two days and looked so unkept and sick.

The NBA boss called on members of the public to look out for all cases human rights violation and speak out in order to save the lives of children.

A native doctor has taken to social media to reveal his displeasure after having a scary dream last night where he was reportedly fed by "witches". The Delta state based native doctor identified as Chi Marine, made series of posts on Facebook as he alleged that they want to kill him that's why they decided to feed him with poisoned food in the dream but he "overcame".

The native doctor also revealed that after his bad dream yesterday night, he killed a chicken with his car this morning, another supposed tragedy he "overcame".

The picture has sparked outrage among internet users who condemned the brutalisation of the woman even though her offence was not stated.

A man who is lucky to be alive after escaping tragedy yesterday evening, can't seem to contain his excitement and the reason is obvious. According to Hon. Kabiru Ibrahim Dallah, he was trying to reverse his car yesterday at Project Quarters in Lafia, Nassarawa state capital before a big tree fell on it while he was still inside.

Ibrahim Kabiru Dallah, a member representing Nasarawa South and a strong critic of his state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, shared pictures of his car which was destroyed by the tree as he celebrated his survival.  

He took to Facebook to write; 

This is how it happened last night, whilst I was trying to reverse after Adams was out of the car at Project Quarters, Lafia.

This very big tree fell on my car and I was inside but Allah speared my life for futuristic purpose.

They came for me but it was too, Allah will continue to spear our lives to be chastising bad governance in Nasarawa State.

This is very sad. A new picture has emerged showing the moment some members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who went on a picnic at a river in Mayo-Sebri village in Gashaka Local Government Council of Taraba state, took a selfie at the venue before drowning moments later.

Nine out of the 23 corps members, who went for a picnic on that fateful day drowned. Seven bodies were recovered the following day and two other bodies recovered some days after.

One of the survivors, a male corps member, narrated the tragedy and how he survived. He wrote: “We went for picnic, 23 of us. We went to a waterfall. That was the first place.

“After taking pictures, we went to another side where there are beautiful rocks with clean water flowing under them. The water was very low though. After taking pictures there, eating and drinking, we were about leaving when someone just shouted seeoooh.

“When we turned, we saw very dirty water coming with so much force and speed, the kind of speed I have never seen in my life, coming from a distance of about 100 metres. We were almost leaving the place but within seconds, the water got to our position. I don’t know how I jumped out.”

Meanwhile, Idris Musa, a resident of Mayo Selbe, disclosed that each year, one to two persons lose their lives in the river, giving rise to the nickname Kogin Mutuwa (Hausa for ‘River of Death’). “The water rushes down with great force and speed once it rains up here,” he said, adding that numerous tragedies have been recorded over the years, but were unreported.

Gov. Kashim Shettima on Tuesday honoured Galadima Isreal, the Nigeria's 2018 highest score JAMB candidate with full scholarship to study Electrical Engineering at Covenant University in Ogun state. Israel Galadima from Borno State came first in JAMB with a score of 364.

Impressed by Zakari's performance, Gov. Shettima invited Zakari and his mother, Jummai Galadima, where he honoured him with N5m full scholarship to study Electrical Engineering at Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State under the Borno State Ministry of Higher Education.

At the council chambers of the Borno State Government House, the Governor thanked them for honouring his invitation, reiterating how proud of him he is.

"It is my honour of Meeting the JAMB King Galadima Israel, an indigene of Borno who scored highest in the 2018 tertiary matriculation examination in Nigeria.

"We are mightily proud of this young man, an orphan raised by a single mother by coming first nationwide after scoring 364 in the 2018 JAMB examination. We must identify with our son of Boko Haram ravaged Borno who defiled against all odds and became victorious”. he said.

Shettima urged all to be generous and support one another devoid of religious or tribal diffrences.

The Governor said since he will be completing his tenure in 2019, he prefers to approve payment upfront in order to ensure that Isreal, who made nine distinctions after taking this year’s West African Examination Council's (WAEC) papers, does not have to follow-up on any tuition at the State scholarship board.

"Israel, as his mother has told us, was raised as an orphan. The mother lost her husband who was a Major in the Nigerian Army about 14 years ago and she singlehandedly raised three children.

"Israel is the second of her children. She works in Lagos as a Banker, we don't have to make her travel all the way to Maiduguri again to pursue any payment.

She has done her part by raising a child with excellence, and that child has made Borno State very proud. It's our turn to support him.

"I will suggest that the mother pays all the fees upfront to avoid any tuition increase in future. I am particular about Israel because he was raised as an orphan" Shettima said.

Earlier in her remarks, Mrs. Jummai Galadima, the mother, thanked Governor Kashim Shettima for the support for her son.
