Honestly I don't understand the discrimination against graduate nurses. I think they should be regarded higher or at least at par with pharmacists. I suspect the root cause is the indistinction between the different categories of nurses in our health care system. |

Sharia enforces trials. In this instance, what the woman said may not be blasphemous according to the Shariah court. Even if it is blasphemous, there are no laws that empower Sharia courts to sentence the woman to death.
You are correct that she can opt to be tried by Sharia court. Nigerian law supersedes all other laws within Nigeria. That is something we must all respect. Thank you. |

Its a pity that these people just make up Shariah laws by themselves. There is NO LAW in Islam or Shariah that says you should kill anyone abusing the prophet! NO LAW, NOTHING. In cases where people insult Allah or His prophet, Allah always dictates that He will deal with those people. He never gave humans the authority to act on His behalf.
It is a pity that scholars and politicians who gain from selling religion as a political tool have used these people this way. What's I don't understand is 1. In Sharia, shouldn't a person be tried first? 2. Isn't the person to choose whether she'll be tried by Sharia or the laws of Nigeria even in states where Sharia operates? |

What's the difference between this country and an animal farm? The solution is education. Someone kills a woman because of blasphemy, another allows his pastor to drive over him. They're commonly stupid and follow "religious leaders" without question. Proper education enables people to think for themselves. There'll still be that odd professor who's a religious fanatic, but stupidity is a right that cannot be deprived anyone. |

Liberia President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has been elected by her colleagues as new chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
This was announced at the 49th Ordinary Session of the Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government in the Senegalese capital Dakar on Saturday.
She takes over from Senegalese President, Macky Sall who has completed his tenure after succeeding Ghana President John Mahama in 2015.
In her acceptance speech, president Sirleaf described her election as an indication of the progress and peace Liberia enjoys, which would not have been possible without the tremendous sacrifices and solidarity of the ECOWAS community.
She commended her Senegalese counterpart, President Macky Sall, whose extraordinary leadership guided the work of the organization in the past year, paid tribute to Dr. Kadre Désiré Ouadraogo for the able manner in which he managed the affairs of the Community as President of the ECOWAS Commission, and congratulated his successor, His Excellency Marcel Alain de Souza and team as they assume their responsibilities.
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, whose tenure runs for 12 months, has set out key priorities aimed at peace consolidation, security architecture, conclusion of negotiations and legal actions, the transformation of Vision 2020 and the improvement in financial stability.
The Liberian leader’s election as Chairperson of the regional body comes on the heels of multifaceted challenges facing the Community ranging from terrorism, global economic meltdown, coupled with the recent Ebola outbreak.
Of the 15-member Commission, Presidents of four nations – Yahya Jammeh (Gambia), Muhammadu Buhari (Nigeria), José Mário Vaz (Guinea Bissau) and Faure Gnassingbe (Togo) failed to attend the session. They however sent their representatives.
