Most towns in the North are much safer than the South even up till now. Na this lack of exposure be una problem. Anybody that travels to the north is always surprised because what they meet is very different from what they expect.
Aside Lagos and Ibadan for instance, a typical northern state capital has better road network and is more urbanised than any state capital in the southwest. I'm saying this as a Yoruba person.

Yes, the parent can be arrested. It has happened. Parents have been arrested for refusing childhood vaccines in Nigeria. The only reason it's not very common is that the government does not want to make people start getting suspicious and rejecting vaccines en masse because it's still the poor children that would lose. The government has the ultimate power over children and can take them away from parents if they decide the child is not safe with them.

Nigeria has a School Health Policy. I think you should look for it and read. Also look for the policy documents and strategic plans for routine immunisation in Nigeria. Like I said, many so-called educated Nigerians are ignorant.

Very possible. A child does not belong to the parent. A child is not personal property. That's why you can't sell, kill or refuse life-saving treatment for a child. Na oversabi dey worry most so-called educated Nigerians

Now let's even assume the same person cleans or resuscitates (if necessary) the two babies. The person would likely take the APGAR + weight of one and document first before doing for the second. Immediately after that they'll have to give the mother to keep the baby skin to skin/belly to belly and attempt to breastfeed. So the baby won't be away for more than a few minutes.


Now, all these activities happen in the same labour room, in a designated area usually in the line of sight of the mothers in standard labour rooms.


This narrative needs to be killed abeg. Nobody dey switch babies. Healthcare workers as a rule try to be very careful to avoid anything that has legal consequences.


NB: For DNA tests, if a baby is switched, it won't have any of the mother or father's DNA. If it has the mother's DNA but not that of the father, then someone lied.

NMA had always been in support of this. It's one of the reasons NMA said JOHESU wasn't benefiting nurses. Pharmacists, physio, MLS etc were starting on level 10 except degree nurses and JOHESU weren't bothered about it till NANNM fought for this on their own.

This is great. I always said it made no sense for graduate nurses to be on level 9 while MLS, physiotherapists, pharmacists etc were higher.

Make no mistake, this is a fight NANNM won on their own. JOHESU initially weren't keen on taking this up and it was one of the major reasons NMA always said JOHESU didn't favour nurses. JOHESU probably joined the struggle when they already saw victory by NANNM was inevitable.
