kafeii123: Oh I sey... maybe we shd start with what do you think is wrong with the calibre of lecturers in Nigeria currently?....
It's true that poor funding and working environment/labs greatly limits the productivity of Nigerian academics but many people dismiss this point as mere excuse... that's why proper funding will at least eliminate this issue... whether you also consider it an excuse...or not in your highlighted comment, you ended up indicting the same lecturers you are defending. if you say lecturers have been using lack of funding as their excuse for poor performance, then you have justified my question about the calibre of lecturers in nigerian universities. What difference will funding make with the calibre of lecturers in Nigerian universities? |

kafeii123: I think it's you who's not getting my point..... which is....that there's nothing wrong with the calibre of lecturers Nigeria currently has......most of the ones I know are worth their salt and quite competent..... and if given proper tools and encouragement will deliver.... just as they often do... when they go to private unis or abroad for sabbaticals and research visits. I know and have interacted with quite a good number...(although mainly in the STEMs) and they're quite competent you havent made any point worth getting. you said lecturers use lack of funding as excuse for poor performance. thats all i need. in your highlighted comment above, you ended up indicting the same lecturers you are defending. if you say lecturers have been using lack of funding as their excuse for poor performance, then you have justified my question about the calibre of lecturers in nigerian universities. once again, every other thing you have typed is offpoint because they have nothing to do with the question i asked. my question revolves around the benefit of more funding vis-a-vis the calibre of lecturers available. all this your grammar no follow. What difference will funding make with the calibre of lecturers in Nigerian universities? |

skultrick: But let's be frank, this woman may have contributed to her death. How would you disobey authority when flagged down. Moreover, the car had no plate number. Obviously she felt since she's lawyer she can do and undo. This was how a custom officer was killed by a soldier after they declined to stop.
Whoever you're please respect authority to avoid stories that touch.
you see the way you have made a fool of yourself? was she the one driving? how is a car not having plates the justification for shooting at occupants in a vehicle? |

chris51: Government should stop funding Universities. They should be self funding. This is when strikes will end. Government does not fund Universities in the UK and US. In fact Obama paid off his students loan a few years ago. That's how it's done here. where will you see student loan to take in nigeria? |
Education › Re: FG Requests CONUA Members’ Details For Salary Payment by CheapHomes1: 6:18am On Jan 17, 2023 |
kafeii123: I assumed your question to be coming from a dismissive/pessimistic mindset...not an inquisitive one....but I also did answer your question....only didn't get into it right on....
Here goes once again "Making funding available for them will go a long way in removing the excuse of their poor performance being due to poor funding. Our unis were once attended by international citizens, if we get them up to standard again? we will save huge forex and even attract foreign students even if just from within western Africa and they will pay in foreign currency, helping to keep the system sustainable."
Rt. Hon Femi gbajabiamila and his guys at the 8th House of Representatives have already begun the needed groundwork towards this.... What will have to happen will be that students be made to pay the requisite fees for their tertiary education...those who cannot afford it should be given loans with federal govt staff as guarantors to secure those loans... Such fees will definitely still be lower than what private unis charge...Baze University for instance charges about 3M per session for each law student.... there's nothing wrong with public unis charging 4-500k per session...
It will go a long way to ensure that only those who really know that they need tertiary education will apply to attend. Many current ills such as cultism.. hooliganism..etc will all reduce.... It will inevitably take University education access off the reach of the common man though... making it the exclusive preserve of the middle class at least.....
This is something that good initial funding can help prevent....if govt injects the needed funds now...the universities will become standardized....foreigners will be encouraged to come study here...the fees they pay will help to offset what would have been levied on indigenous students.
If you still need more explanation....many Nigerian lecturers actually are worth their salt... If you fund the university system appropriately.... they'll get the tools for correct knowledge delivery....if they're not overworked...their effectiveness will improve... And you'll see them deliver as they often do when they go abroad for research visits and sabbaticals in your highlighted comment above, you ended up indicting the same lecturers you are defending. if you say lecturers have been using lack of funding as their excuse for poor performance, then you have justified my question about the calibre of lecturers in nigerian universities. once again, every other thing you have typed is offpoint because they have nothing to do with the question i asked. my question revolves around the benefit of more funding vis-a-vis the calibre of lecturers available. all this your grammar no follow. It's hereditary to Nigerian presidents ,we all can see how the criticism and blames have shifted from Buhari to Tinubu. It only means Nigeria know where the next president is coming from . That's why El Rufai said we'd ignore the insults and take the votes.
The opposition lost the debates as soon as they shifted to personal attacks rather than track records .

I know someone (Nigerian) who went to the US & spent millions for child delivery and the kids died in the states (they were twins)... So pls... Not everything is bad in Nigeria. Things cost money. We get what we pay for. And APC has not diversified the economy, neither has it made it a productive economy. The taxes that have been paid so far, what have nigerians leaders done with it? Where do nigerian leaders get money to travel abroad for medical care? Private sector players need to step into the healthcare industry and transform it. The government is clueless, so the opportunity remains for private sector players to monetize the disadvantages and make profit from it. sqlPAIN: This mentality is mostly common among Nigerian guys and honesty it's disgusting mentality to me...
I was watching a prank video on YouTube where a guy pretended to be an ice cream selling and tried to asked some girls out to see if anyone would give him a chance. Only about 2 girls out if like 12 he approached gave him their number. What I noticed in the comments section were comments of guys saying the two girls who gave him their number were real women and that the others were fake. I've seen a lot of guys even on nairaland here with such stuupidd mentality. Ask yourself this question, if you were an ice cream seller or a broke or poor man, Shey you go date yourself if you be woman ni?
If I find myself in such situations as a guy man, going into a relationship would not even cross my mind, not to talk of being the last thing on my mind. My biggest priority would be to hussle. Hussle and more hussle till I make enough to get myself a better life...
Abeg make una stop dey castigate women for wanting the best, it's human to want the best things and it's logical. Do ice cream sellers not get married? |
