PHC what a city, 2000 my 1st encounter at NANS convention, PHC boys vs Nigeria Students. The then NANS president hired them to avoid being impeached, live shoot at us, Federal Poly, Offa students save our life, chase them all, told us to leave environment immediately because they are coming to reinforce.

Could someone please advise me. I had a previous contractor who was managing my building project. I gave this contractor money to mould parapets. I later sacked the contractor and hired a new one. The new contractor has advised that the parapet that was moulded by the previous contractor is rubbish because the parapet has no reinforcement in it. The new contractor also said the parapet has no hook for hanging it.
My question is do pre-cast parapets require iron reinforcement or this new contractor is just talking from his anus?

Yes it requires iron rod in it precisely to hang it & give it strength. If no iron there will be nothing to hang it.

As a first rule to every site I go especially where I'm not known whoever asks who is the engineer will never find him. I will always present myself as working for the engineer to receive their message on his behalf or get one of the senior artisans to stand in and never reveal my identity. I've had a couple of clients who remained anonymous even when coming to the site but always find a way to give out drinks to people around so most times I have drinks to even give some of these fellows who come around to disturb. Just a pre-measure to rub minds and cool tempers.

Me i locate their leader, after a good rapport, i turn king of jungle, just a call lobatan. I do this mostly for clients in hidden. Ikorodu, OMG i offer to give a 30tons load of Granite to their leader at Igbogbo before i take full charge of site for a client, DPC & Decking was done free no pay no destrub from any quarter but finally pay for roofing, ants did not show face to the site.

Chipping in PHC is gold ooo. A times due to stress from calabar or Abia, we just go for the Chinese one. U see what u buy and leave. 20k transport is may be to Oyingbo side. Any move beyond aba road na 30k above.

From Abakaliki that don't know that, but from Cross river is +/- 330 to PH. Due to bad road ur granite can be delayed by 1 or 2 days.

However, There is a Chinese company after Port harcourt Refinery that crush and sell granite of different size. The rate is 10k per tonne, then u negotiate transport to ur site separately. E.g to deliver to Ada George area of PH is like 40-45k. To Uzoba and Choba area is like 50k. Try to negotiate the transport to ur best ability.

Granite(Shippings) is not cheap across states anymore. Price per ton range from ₦3200-₦4000/ton Haulage Services service range from ₦30k above. If naira is face by another devaluation definitely price will raise.

As it is Cement may get to ₦5,000/bag before end of this year.. 2 things we watch for, if Dangote increase cost of production, transporters will also increase ...other manufacturers will follow suit.
