It has been a hectic August - The suspension of Justice Ayo Salami, President of the Court of Appeal, the Abuja bombing , the Jos Killings, Kidnap of Mikel Obi’s father, Arrest of 300 members of MASSOB, and more Boko Haram attacks in Borno and other Northern States – Nigeria appears to be a country under siege! But Last Fridays’ suicide bombing of the U.N. Abuja compound wins the ultimate hit. Nigeria's latest suicide bombing Friday at the U.N. compound in the capital, Abuja, marked what is believed to be Boko Haram's first assault on an international target. The bombing killed at least 23 people and injured more than 80, according to a U.N. spokesman.

Crisis and public riots have always existed in Nigeria, but Bomb blasts affecting public buildings and institutions started during the watch of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
Security experts, Diplomats, UN Officials, the Opposition, and Nigerians are blaming President Goodluck Jonathan, government bureaucracy and lethargy on the part of the intelligence community for the ease with which terrorists picks their targets leaving behind casualties.
A more dangerous development is the feeling among the generality of Nigerians that President Goodluck Jonathan and his officials know the people behind the Boko haram scourge but are afraid to take action against them.
Someone said "the baffling thing is that the government knows the people behind Boko Haram but not manly enough to go for them. May be GEJ is a coward after all. Now is another opportunity to go for whosoever is behind them. Or better still; let him go for the people behind the 1st October bombing. It could be the same people under different mask. GEJ must stand up now!"

More ominously, others believe the Federal Government is orchestrating these attacks, stirring unnecessary crisis to rope in the opposition; that President Jonathan "is trying to make it look as if it is Al-Qaeda that are responsible by saying it is a global assault...but the questions remains...Who are responsible for the other bombings? Is Boko Haram going under the bridge? Who is supplying all these bombs?"

John Campbell, former US Ambassador to Nigeria no doubt spoke the minds of many when he wrote that he “couldn't fathom some logic and sense in the claims, responsibility and responses to the unfortunate incident of last Friday’s bombing.

He gave his reasons as:

1. The level of laxity in the Nigerian security is quite appalling and not willing to improve despite incidences of repeated bombings in the capital city of Abuja in the last six months.
2. Everyone is pointing fingers to an alleged "suicide bomber" but no one is showing a footage of the incident. Who are the witnesses? An office and international organisation such as the UN building doesn't have a CCTV camera? It’s illogical.
3. The credibility for the news of claims by Boko Haram terrorist group most of the time seems spurious. In how many months of escalated bombings there seem to be no "faces" that can be linked to the group. Like Al qaeda, at least we know the faces behind the terrorist group and their modus operandi.
In this case, with every claim to BH bombings we are left with no faces, just statements which can be done by anybody, or are there "ghost workers" in the Boko Haram terrorist organisation?
4. Since Oct 1 of last year, Nigeria has been reported to have 5 incidents of bomb last. The security agencies are yet to show a face that will be linked as a top member of the Boko Haram Group.
Moreover, amidst whispering campaigns that his party might be providing tacit support to Boko haram, former Head of State, and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Major-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Tuesday directly challenged the Federal Government to unmask the people behind the terrorists.

You can continue the bidding of your paymasters and label anyone who questions the inactions of your boss a "Boko haram apologists". The truth is every death, every rape, every kidnapped victim in the past few years as a result of Boko Haram could have been avoided if your boss was decisive and rather than selfishly seek to benefit from the crisis, took action.

This is good news that should have happened years ago. What changed?

First, there was a series of startling revelations by the Australian negotiatior that fingered allies of President Goodluck Jonathan as being involved with Boko Haram.
Secondly, there was a cash for arms scandal which doubled as money laundering of $9.3million that involved the presidency and his allies. Till date, the usually loquacious Rueben Abati and Olisa Metuh have been silent on the scandal.

In time past, it has been alleged that the presidency was promoting instability in the north for political gains. For example, labeling APC as Boko Haram sponsors. These recent events which cannot be independent of the current Army successes have proven that the government of Nigeria could have done more in curtailing these terrorists. The battle wasn't about Islam, it was all about holding on to power. It couldn't have been difficult to crush Boko Haram if the resources at our disposal were deployed.

Questions
Is it probable that these revelations have brought Nigerians closer to the truth and the successes recorded presently are diversions from the truth we seek - who is behind Boko Haram?
Is it probable that Boko Haram has outlived its usefulness and the powers that be are ready to shut it down?

el-Rufai has been a thorn in the side of this incompetent government. His silence is so loud that the butt lickers noticed. All of a sudden, The Nigerian army is recording victories - did they change tactics? Did it take them 4 years, stolen billions and countless lost lives to realize they've been fighting the battle the wrong way? Or the fact that GEJ isn't serious about stopping Boko Haram due to political reasons has changed? Are GEJ fans so insecure that they need an El-Rufai to validate their victory so they can go around Nairaland saying "even El-Rufai"? They are not casualties of war; they are a product of wicked and selfish leaders who not only sponsored Boko Haram but failed woefully in their duty to stop them. You reported Asari Dokubo as saying that the country will divide before the north rules again. If GEJ rules till 2019, would he also run for a third term like OBJ wanted to?. Isn't it normal that the power returns to the north again for the sake of equity and national unity? For crying out loud, the south would have ruled this country for 17 out of 20 years since 1999. I think it's just fair that power returns to the North in 2019, although this time around not to the Hausa-Fulani but to the North Central. Afterall, north is north.

Explain in simple terms, citing evidences APC's approach to national issues! I would gladly do the same and show you that choosing to vote PDP is being abused and yet defending your abuser.

I hope Marilyn Ogar will clear the air - tell us the owner of the aircraft, its purpose and whether it is owned by APC. It's sad the level Nigeria has fallen into under PDP rule.

Lagos state did not go about raising the domestic debt arbitrarily. In 2008, a plan was floated and this was communicated publicly. The domestic debt was then raised in tranches and this was concluded in 2013.

There is no updated record of Lagos domestic debt on DMO's website. However, from reports on lagos state.gov.ng, total debt profile of Lagos both internal and external is about 435 billion naira (not trillions). It has a domestic debt profile of about 300 billion naira.
Contrast that with Bayelsa. There is also no updated domestic debt profile for Bayelsa both on DMO and their website. However, the most recent filing on DMO (December 2012) shows a nearly equal domestic debt profile to Lagos with nothing to show for it - 222 billion naira.

You can rail all you like about Lagos debt. The figures are self evident on its income and expenditure profile which is available for all to see that progress is being made. Lagos is transforming.

And finally, while you are still trying to under stand the figures, inquire from the FG what it did with 9 billion dollars external debt and 7 trillion naira domestic debt with all the Crude income that has accrued over the years.

But before I address the specifics I will like to remind that some two years ago at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos during the Public Presentation of “Who Really Is General Muhammadu Buhari?” (which also includes the said Sixteen ‘Sins’) on 03 March, 2009 I PUBLICLY CHALLENGED all the Buhari-Phobics to a PUBLIC DEBATE on the socalled Buhari ‘Sins.’ I’ve repeated this challenge also on at least three other similar occasions (Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Ibadan).

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. “Bulging,” a cowardly reference to the Nigeria Naira, which colour the Buhari government had changed to frustrate fraudsters. And with a deadline to officially change the OLD currency to the NEW.

Other STUPID insinuations: First, the said “Bulging 53 Suit Cases” belonged to the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Mustapha Jokolo, the father of Buhari’s ADC, Major Al-Mustapha Jokolo.

Second, ADC Major Jokolo, awed or intimidated the Custom Officers from inspecting the said 53 suitcases of his father.

Third, the Buhari’s government condoned and suppressed the matter with censurable veniality.

THE TRUTH:

One, it is TOTALLY false that the respected Emir came into the country with 53 suit cases “bulging” (or not bulging).

Two, 40 of the said 53 suit cases infact belonged to the Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Ambassador Dahiru Waziri (and his family). He was returning home to take up another national assignment, State Chief of Protocol (SCOP) to General Buhari.

Three, Nobody ever stopped the airport custom officers from doing their lawful duty.

Four, there was NOT a single Naira in the suit cases.

Five, The Minister of Finance, Dr. Onaolapo O. Soleye, was directed by General Buhari to investigate the ‘juicy’ simmering scandal. Verdict? The Emir was CLEARED. Not a shred of truth in the scandal.

Very CONFIDENT General Buhari had on at least two occasions directed probing journalists to go and ask Atiku Abubakar about the suit cases. He was at the material time the Custom Officer on duty at the airport. They are too lazy to go to Atiku. I know him. He will tell them the truth.

President Jonathan and the “53 Suit Cases” Saga:

Monstrous GARBAGE. This NONSENSE. This RUBBISH, was attributed to President Jonathan by one of his topmost Public-Money-Paid handlers, Mike Omeri, Director of Research and Strategy of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

One, Big, Fat Title: “Director of Research and Strategy of the Presidential Campaign Council.” Vacuous. Sterile of “Research.” Empty of “Strategy.” Waste of public funds.

Two, “……..in 1984 General Buhari exhibited double standard in public administration by allowing 52 (sic) suit cases suspected to be filled with hard currency through his ADC….”

Three, the vaunted “Director of Research….” does not even know the number of suit cases at issue, “52” instead of “53”. What a great “Director of Research.”

Four, the great “Director of Research…” was too lazy intellectually and too indolent physically to get hold of copies of the two books on General Buhari op. cit. to be better informed or enlightened. They’ve been at a number of book shops for the past two years.

OBDURATE MISOLOGY AND PRO-JONATHAN

It seems that some Pro-Jonathan are so photophobic when it comes to enlightenment that no amount of LIGHT beamed on FALSEHOOD can make any dint on their obsessional fancied misology. They are so comfortable with DARKNESS like the men in Plato’s Allegory of the Cave.

In the past few weeks a number of full-page silly adverts against Buhari and Bakare have appeared in the newspapers. But the sponsors decidedly defeated their object because of laziness to update their records of INACCURACIES and IGNORANCE and so they continue to attempt disinforming the public, who are already in possession of the FACTS.

For instance, after all that has been written above (and earlier); after President Jonathan justified ‘sack’ of his Director of Research and Strategy, Mike Omeri, over the BOGUS “53 suit cases” saga (Daily SUN 24 March, 2011. Front Page Splash) a Pro-Jonathan sycophantic group, with the soi-disant tag, “Gbagi Foundation,” STILL had this to say about the said “53 suit cases” in a full page NONSENSICAL advert (Daily SUN 29 March, 2011 page 42): “…during the change of the Nigerian currency, 53 suitcases belonging to the Emir of Gwandu, father of General Buhari’s ADC, Major Jokolo, came into the country and disappeared till today…”

And this is coming after one whole week Jonathan was outraged about the nonsensical disinformation.

Before this silly advert there was one which tried to embarrass Bakare by re-visiting what he had said of Buhari before. No point at all. Human beings and human situations are necessarily DYNAMIC; sometimes even in a state of FLUX. That’s why we have PARADIGM SHIFTS.

In short, there is no big deal that Bakare is now a Running Mate to Buhari.

President Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865) once said that he was prepared to change his mind in the face of New Realities, after all he is a mortal.

Only The Almighty is unmoveably CONSTANT.

Incidentally, the choice of Bakare is said to be another ‘sin’ of Buhari.

In any case Jonathan has changed his mind even in major national issues over dozen times.

“The N2.8 Billion ‘Missing’ Oil Money Poppycock”

Unmitigated NONSENSE. ABSOLUTELY BOGUS. No such money even one dollar of oil money was ever lost.

The Honourable Mr. Justice Ayo Irekefe Judicial Commission of Inquiry on N2.8 Billion Oil Money was unequivocally categorical that NO such money or any oil money ever got missing.

As Minister of Petroleum under Buhari I naturally asked for a copy of the White Paper on the Justice Irekefe’s Judicial Commission. I read it over several times; NOT even a smoking gun.

Furthermore, Buhari ABSOLUTELY has NO hand in the matter.

“It was interesting that Buhari’s name as Minister of Petroleum Resources and Chairman of NNPC was not mentioned” (Obasanjo, In: “Not My Will” (1990) page 222)......

Uwujaren further maintained that “claims about such invoices purportedly emanating from the Commission by any person or organization should be discountenanced as such documents would have been forged by fraudsters.”
The owner and head of Fenix Impex Nig Ltd., a Nigerian oil-trading firm, Jarret Tenebe said he had been selling confiscated Nigerian crude oil to Saltpond on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, but said the quantities were small.
Head of Public Affairs at the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Mrs. Dorathy Bassey said Fenix only loaded “about 2,000 barrels” of confiscated crude oil since late 2012.
It is unclear how much of that was sold to Saltpond but Fenix is Saltpond’s only provider of EFCC-confiscated crude, according to Sintim.
The provenance of the other oil that made its way to an Italian refinery over the course of the past year, however, isn’t clear.
Three cargoes, listed in shipping documents as “Saltpond blend crude oil,” went to Genoa’s terminal for delivery to Italy’s Iplom SpA refinery, according to shipping and port records and officials.
Two cargoes, unloaded in August 2013 and February 2014, carried about 340,000 barrels altogether, according to Genoa port officials.
The third tanker, unloaded on April of this year, carried 132,000 barrels. Together, that’s more than four times the platform’s 2013 output of around 100,000 barrels, according to the Ghana government figures.
Iplom’s President, Giorgio Profumo confirmed his refinery had received crude labeled as coming from Saltpond but said he believed the cargoes were legitimate because they are approved by the Ghana authorities.
Ghana’s customs and petroleum regulator didn’t return an emailed request for comment and couldn’t be reached over the phone.
Saltpond, meanwhile, has been a frequent port of call for at least one vessel connected with Nigerian oil smuggling.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Akshay is a tanker co-owned by Ajay Bhatia, an Indian national who was sentenced in a Nigerian court in May in absentia to 15 years in jail for oil theft.
The Akshay traveled three times between Nigeria and Saltpond in the four months before the ship’s seizure by the Nigerian navy, for allegedly carrying stolen crude, in November 2012, according to shipping tracker service IHS Fairplay.
Two other vessels partly owned by Bhatia also travel frequently from Nigeria to Saltpond, according to vessel database FleetMon.com and to some of the ships’ crew members.
Asked about the Akshay and other vessels co-owned by Bathia, Sintim said he would look into those tankers’ activity at Saltpond but didn’t respond when contacted again.
A lawyer for Bhatia declined to comment. Bhatia didn’t respond to numerous calls, text messages and emails.

Pension billions stolen and nothing serious done about it.
35% debt increase in one year and no major project.
Consistent increase in recurrent expenditure with consistently high crude oil prices.
Outsourced waterway security worth billions to militants and yet increased crude oil theft.
Income tax increase yet the debt keeps piling up.
Promised refinery repairs yet output still low.

It happened during the 2011 elections. It is happening again. Anyway, the owner of Nairaland never claimed neutrality.

Nigeria's debt increased by 35% in one year and it's not raising eyebrows? Are we not still selling oil? What project was done in one year?
With regards to Lagos state, it will do you good to reflect on how the state's revenue profile has increased vis a vis it's debt profile.
You cannot apply the same logic to the Federal government that keeps reducing capital expenditure and increasing recurrent expenditure.

If you read the news, the information Tinubu gave on the Oando transaction is what everyone knew all this while. What would be his motive in implicating them? He was hired by the Jonathan government. He has worked for successive PDP administrations. Why is it now that he wants to throw false accusations? There would be an element of truth to his accusations and I believe the FG is in the best position to respond to these claims. Unfortunately, like all other hot burner issues - fuel subsidy, Farouk scandal, pension fraud, missing $20billion etc, they will either keep quiet and let the issue die down or shoot the messenger.
