State laws differ. I stay in Lagos as well. Lagos is very strict with a lot of “skoin-skoin”. Had to go to another south-west state SlowlybtSurely: Thank you for this! I'm glad this is doable. A judge in Lagos refused to grant my friend full custody and quoted that the child's parents were still alive, so I just thought that was the law. |

I and at least 5 people I know have adopted kids with one or both parents alive in the course of this journey. We all have our PR, with the exception of one person awaiting approval. I personally adopted two kids and their parents are alive and well. I have FULL custody. The OP can go ahead to legally adopt the child. Avoid Lagos sha. E get why. Use other states with less traffic. SlowlybtSurely: The safer option will be to legally adopt that child in Nigeria before coming. The problem with that though is that the court will usually not grant you full guardianship/custody if the child's biological parents are alive, even if the biological parents agree to that arrangement. This will make it impossible to add her to your application as IRCC will require that you have full guardianship/custody.
If you know your way around Nigerian legal system and can somehow get a judge that can grant you full guardianship, that will be your best bet. |

Got our stamped passports yesterday Chenkes: Wow. Part 11 already!!!.
I stopped coming here after IRCC almost gave me high BP. It would be remiss of me not to post the below, as every single information I used for this process was from this thread. From IELTS tips, to ECA guide, to submitting my profile, to adoption of my kids and their inclusion in my profile, submitting my application and all.
I read every single page from Part 1 to 8 or thereabout.
See timeline below:
Decision to Travel: 2016. I didn't have up to 3yrs experience and was still running my M.sc so I decided to wait. Used the wait period to read every single thread from Part 1 created by Zandora. I even read the very first thread from Solomonwis. 1st IELTS: April 2018 3rd IELTS: January 2020 ECA: March 2020. Unilag used almost a year to send my transcript. I was too busy to follow up in person. Entered the pool: March 2020 1st ITA: 5 Aug 2020. Declined the ITA on the last day for submission i.e. 5 November 2nd ITA: 5 November 2020 Medicals: 13 Nov 2020. Medicals finally passed in January 2021. Had to go for multiple additional tests and see specialists for one of my kids. AOR: 24 Dec 2020 Eligibility Passed: February 2021 Biometrics Completed: 3 Feb 2021 Upfront Remed, PCC and Schedule A: 17 March 2022. Sent all 3 docs to all VOs whose email address I could lay my hands on. Raised multiple webforms as well. Remed Passed: 31 March 2022 GU: 28 April 2022 Sent IRCC and every email I could find an emotionally blackmailing mail: 9 June 2022 GU - Background check changed to we are processing (they finally started it): 14 June 2022 Another GU (nothing changed): 15 June 2022 Sent everybody in copy of my previous mail a thank you message: 16 June 2022 1st PPR: 17 June 2022 2nd PPR: 22 June 2022
VO: Ottawa
I started this journey alone 6years ago. I ended it with 3 children. The fear of medical inadmissibility stopped me from applying or taking a step until 2018 when it was reviewed.
Thank you Lord!!!!
For everyone still on this process, hang in there!!!. There is light at the end of the tunnel. |
