Yes sister. I read in FUTO We have options the school of engineering there so we graduate from our options for example in Civil Engineering we have Highway Structural Water resources And Public health I was the only one who did public health in my class because my classmates did not understand the option. I got GA though 70% fee waiver, so I use my stipend to offset my own part of the fees Thanks for the compliments Also NotsonewMary: @chibertha, Great profile!
I never knew there was a Public Health Engineering program in naija (Looks like an interesting area that I’ll love to know about probably for future graduate studies).
It’s how you’re steady combining Healthcare and Engineering for me!, Big Woman Doingsss!
I hope and pray your finances get sorted, hopefully you can still look into external funding opportunities or make an appeal to your program director to see how you can get a fee reduction or something. (The latter worked for me!)
All the best with everything! |

From your experience & interaction with successful applicants, what's your advice for someone on PhD? Whether to apply during the study or wait after completion not considering publications & citations status. |

I helped a friend do hers too in July 2023 and it was approved in November 2023. I will do mine next year when I start my PhD. I will be graduating from masters in spring 2023. My profile B.Eng Civil / Public health Engineering Nigeria 15 years experience in oil and gas in Nigeria with plenty certifications from around the world Masters Environmental Engineering Internship in the USA So I have all it takes to push except that I am facing school fees now and EAD in January 2023. The thing is straight forward. NotsonewMary: Welcome to the thread @uchetobi
Happy to share that my I-140 (EB2-NIW) was approved this week! ( such a great Christmas gift lol).
I filed I-140 and I-485 concurrently 5 months back. I completed the whole process myself with help and guidance from a few other friends. I did not employ the services of a lawyer (personal preference though).
I have shared resources and links that were helpful for me on previous pages of this thread.
Goodluck to everyone on this journey, may the odds be in our favor.
I’ll be happy to answer any questions ( as much as is within my knowledge) right here on the thread.

If you are having issues getting a favourable date for interview it would be better to differ your admission to another semester. Always better to plan 6months ahead. |

100% correct Rdfactor: LoL. Yeah. An organization needs to sponsor you for an H1B visa. The H1B is looking more like a game of luck these days. The lucky ones get shortlisted. Nineties, there are many organizations that are ready to sponsor you as long as you are good.
For people doing Msc, they could try and do OPT toward the completion of their degree. Most people get sponsored eventually by the same organization where they did their OPT. But while applying for OPT, make sure you look for clauses like "we don't sponsors work visa" in the Job description. An organisation like that might not sponsor H1B for u |

Well I am indifferent about calling since the requirements are on the web page. I would look for a school who will ask for what I have. Note The big names will always have their bar raised due to the number of application they receive. seribroo56: Thanks for the response, do you advise that I first call the university before applying. eniola1010: @TWoods @chibertha Thanks for answering my questions. I only have one last batch of questions before i start my usa preparation
1) i thought its the school we use to write sop too. How come during interview the vo always have a copy of the sop, i want to assume its the school that sends the vo the sop. Or is it that people write two sops, one for vo and one for sch. Ans The VO does not have your SOP They rate your from your DS160
2) concerning coa. I want to assume that coa is the total cost of ur addmission or is it the total cost of admission per year.
For example, if i am going for a 4 year phd. And the cost is 20k usd per year.
Does it mean my coa is 80k usd?
And if so, judging by the 80k analysis, what is the ideal deficit you can advise someone to have in his statement of account or would you advice someone to have the complete 80k usd or its equivalent showing on the statement to give the vo impression that you can take good care of urself financially Ans COA that is need is for a year and it includes Tuition and estimated living expenses

Yes you can be admitted with your GPA with GRE Fund is not too common at masters level But you can get GA on campus to help you. Your school of choice will guide you through the application process for making payment you can tell family or friends outside Nigeria to help you seribroo56: Good evening all, please I will need your advice on the following,
1. I got 147/152 GRE score and also finished with a second class lower (2.63). How fisible is gaining admission to the United States. (Scholarship if possible)
2. What are the process to applying and do can I pay the application fee with a naira master/verve card.

See my answer in bold eniola1010: I have been reading the thread. From page1 and kudos to all the guys contributing. Please i have series of questions.
1) first and foremost, are all of you on the thread from a rich home. Cus after my findings, usa tuition no be beans o. Jesus. I'm planning to go for my phd because currently i'm almost done with my msc. And i learnt average tution for phd in usa is 28k usd per year, and phd is like three years and above, where will i see money from? And For those whose parents or them don't have the money they are sponsored by their " uncle's and aunts"
2) additionally, i heard f2 cant work, is this true? If so, is there a way to circumvent it? I also heard f1 cant work, is this also true, if so, is there a way to circumvent it? And Yes they can not work and there is no way to circumvent it
3) furthermore, is it best to apply with my civil partner, or i should first go, and she applies after i am already there? And Either one is ok as long as you have enough funds to cover them
4) going forward, from people's transcript on the thread, most of the enlightened ones here says the f2 should tell vo that they are only going to be with the f1 for few months and they will return back, what if the vo gives the f2 a 4months visa, and the 4 months is due, will the f2 be sent packing back to where she was coming from or how can the f2 find a way to still remain with f1? Ans Chances are the VO rarely gives less than 2 yrs. My husband's F2 is valid through 2024 while F2 is valid through 2023
5) Also, after f1's education tenure is over, what can f1 do to still remain in the US? Ans Plenty things OPT Work visa etc O visa EB2 NIW
6) pre-ultimately, is it possible for me to pause my schooling and just be working or is it possible to dump the schooling with no harsh clap back from visa team. And Option 1 no Option 2 no try am
7) lastly, are doctorate degree cheaper than phd in usa And Cost is based on course
Thank you all as you answer my questions. |

You are now a son of Marshall Go herd Go Marco and I officially welcome you to Huntington West Virginia the mountain state. justdoit100: Hello Chibertha, my fellow MU people. Someone already forwarded it here, but I'll post it again.
In my last interview, I had no LinkedIn profile, and I made an error on my DS-160, which Barrister Ogbu noticed after I sent him my DS-160 for review. I built my LinkedIn profile and uploaded all my certifications. For someone with a long career, the VO wouldn't believe that I actually work with the said organization if I didn't have an online presence.
I was the third in line and the first to be approved. The interview started around 10:15 a.m. VO: Hello. Me: Good morning. VO: Could you pass me your form? Me: Yes! You can have it. VO: So, you're going to Marshall University. Me: Correct! I'm going to Marshall University for my Masters in Geography, and I will be taking a minimum of 34 credit hours with courses like bla bla. Under the supervision of Professor Jamie, I would be researching the impact of *****. (I stuttered at first but gained momentum when she said that she was interested in my research, so I continued and she didn't interrupt me.) VO: Have you been outside the country? Me: No! I've been very busy working in Nigeria. VO: So, do you have any relatives living in the US? Me: No! I don't. All my relatives live in Nigeria. VO: So, you were here last year, going to FSU, and were denied this year again, going to Marshall University. Tell me what has changed and why you think you were denied. Be honest with me. Me: I think the last time I was in Lagos, I was unable to explain my funding clearly and concisely. I have been awarded a graduate teaching assistantship that covers 70% of my tuition and fees and a $6,000 stipend to cater for my living expenses. I have worked for over 11 years and have saved 12 million naira, of which I will use part to cover my deficit.
VO: So what about your uncle? Why is he not sponsoring you again? Me: I have enough money to cover my deficit; that's why my account statement was used. But he still promised to assist me, as he always does. VO: I think this school is very affordable too? Me: Yes! I was offered a GTA. VO: Are you married? Me: No, but I'm in a committed relationship, and we plan to tie the knot when I come back to Nigeria after my program. VO: What's your post-study plan? I will be returning as the regional GIS head in our organization; we're the 4th largest in Nigeria. I will be applying geospatial technologies to combat energy theft and generate more revenue for the organization. VO: Is the company private? Me: Yes! Following the unbundling of PHCN in 2013. VO: In the US, ours is run by the government. Me: Okay VO: Have you applied to Canada before? (I guess she opened my LinkedIn and saw the Canada WES evaluation report because I saw her screen reflection on her glasses.) Me: No! When I wanted to evaluate my transcript, I accidentally selected Canada instead of the USA, so I had to pay another fee and transfer my transcript to WES USA. (which she cut off) VO: It's okay. Your visa is approved. You will get an email soon. Enjoy your stay. Me: "Thank you!"
I was just indifferent, and it was after I got out that the security guys told me to smile and said congratulations.
That was when I started getting emotional.
