SCHOOLS OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY TO RECEIVE A BOOST IN NIGER STATE AS THE WORLD CELEBRATES HEALTH DAY.

As we celebrate the world health Day with focus on nurses and midwives, the Abubakar Sani Bello-led administration acknowledges the relentless efforts of Nurses, midwives and other health workers in the pursuit of good health for the populace.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mary Noel-Berje indicates that government also notices the huge deficit in the numbers of nurses and midwives available globally.

This it attributes to the huge burden and strain of the demand for good health placed on the capabilities of the nurses pushing them to work beyond capacity.

To address the situation, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor says government is committed to reducing the deficit by providing more qualified nurses and midwives as well as evolving more strategies for training and retraining of health workers generally .

With the present menace of the COVID- 19, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello also recognizes all the front line medical health workers that risk their lives everyday in attending to cases and impeding further spread, despite the fact that no case has been recorded in Niger State, with much hope it stays so.

The State government has however set up isolation centers to address any issue that might arise.

It therefore calls for the cooperation of Citizens to Stay Safe and Alive and observe social distancing to enable us witness more celebrations.

Disclosing this at a Media briefing, Secretary to the State Government, SSG and Chairman State Action Committe on COVID-19, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said the new measure became necessary following the gross disrespect for the appeals and directives on social distancing and social gatherings by the people as the only precautionary measures against the spread of Coronavirus.

According to the Committee Chairman, it became imperative to go beyond appeals and directives to contain the spread of the highly infectious disease in order to avoid an impending health and economic calamity of unimaginable proportion in the State.

Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane said the Governor decided to invoke the Niger State COVID-19 Order 2020, conferred on him by all the relevant portions of the law and the Constitution for the collective good, safety, security and public health of the people.

According to the SSG, the State Government has relaxed the restriction of movement imposed in the State from 2:00pm to 10.00pm beginning from Sunday, 5th April, 2020.

Markets are now to open from 8:00am to 2:00pm to enable people buy food stuff and other essentials while the intra and inter State movement of people and vehicles remain banned.

He announced that the State Civil Servants on Grade Level 1 - 12, earlier directed to stay at home as part of measures to curb the spread of the disease, are now to resume work on Monday, 6th April, 2020, from 8.00am to 2.00pm.

Meanwhile, all Local Government Areas sharing border with neighbouring States have been directed to ensure effective monitoring of people and vehicles coming into the local government as all entry points to the State remain closed except those on essential services.

While debunking insinuations going round that the State government has banned 'call to Prayers', the Secretary to the State Government advised the people to shun rumour mongering, adding that the State is yet to record any case of COVID-19.

Amidst the Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic, Niger State Executive Council seeks to downsize the 2020 approved budget by 36 per cent.

The State Commissioner for Budget and Planning Commission, Alhaji Mamman Musa disclosed this during post exco media briefing held at the Government House, Minna.

Maman Musa added that overhead cost to Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) have been reduced to 75 per cent as well as travel expenses of government officials.

He said the downward review of the 2020 budget has become imperative due to the global economic downturn caused as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The commissioner said that the 2020 budget was prepared with 90 per cent of income projection coming from the statutory allocation hinged on the oil sector with a benchmark of crude oil at $57 per barrel, complaining that since the
