Isn't that just the pity? Likewise with my scenario, I knew lots of people who would have died to have hooked up with her. alas, she did herself no favours by her behaviour.

Well put, and i'll say it again, your talents are wasted, write a book!!!!

Ok, at the risk of digressing from the main thrust of this post, let me share a smithering of one of my recent encounters with the fairer sex. I was chanced to recently to be introduced to a young lady who had recently been repatriated from the realms of Uncle Sam's Kingdom after 17years. My platonic lady friend who had known, lets call her Lola for a while, felt that we'd be ideally suited since we had similar backgrounds; upbringing; age etc. So along we go for drinks with our mutual friend as a chaperone and great fun was had by all. A couple of days later Lola and I do movies, alone, followed by several days of dinner, drinks etc. A few weeks later i discover after incisive questioning;being observant and also a lot less reticence than i usually have, that we in fact are not ideally suited to each other. Rather than string her along seeing that we are no longer spring chickens, I liken our interludes to the dalliance of eagles and confess to her that in my humble estimation we are not meant to be and i'd rather we were friends as opposed to embarking on any delusions of intimacy. This, it would seem, has now become my undoing! To think I was espousing virtues of chivalry, honesty and fairplay what I am now being repaid with is a constant bombardment of phonecalls, unscheduled visits and emails from Lola to tell me what a mistake i'm making and how right she is for me. I kid you not i have been called by her aunt, her colleagues and other strangers too numerous to mention to the point where i screen my calls and now ppep from behind my curtains whenever a visitor toots their horn.

The long and short of this is that this is a true story and seems to me to be somewhat a reverse of Obirins initial narration. It would appear that there is a specie of women who are hell bent on claiming the nearest that comes to their specifications as a trophy, illsuited or not. I have been married before and am not wont to make the same mistakes again, especially those of not being thorough and not knowing full well what i was getting into whilst traversing the vicissitudes of my youth.

It seems, at least to me that, the forum topic should read "Where are the Single Naija People of Quality Over 35?"

Once again, pardon the interruption.

Well it is certainly gratifying that my absence was missed, and i did miss you all too. Had some work related issues to attend to in South Africa.

Silly me, i forgot it was winter and took only summer clothing, hence been laid up in bed for the last 3 days. What did I misshuhhuh

Just spotted it,

@Obirin: Could you explain the ambiguity of "West African Sun in his veins",

Does this mean you are looking for someone who wants to relocate to nigeria or for someone who has just emigrated from nigeria?

@Obirin

Well there you have it in a nutshell,

Allow yourself to breathe and exhale after a relationship, very often we dont do a "lessons learned" after failed relationships and consequently carry Louis Vuittons into the next one

I read this thread with dismay, I am disturbed that an injustice like this would become a matter of derision by some of you who seem to have stayed too long in someone elses country. Nigeria teaches people to be animals? IS it the country or is a function of their social conditions. Rather than spouting meaningless soundbites, why don't you come back and do your quota of nation building. I have said this before and I will say it again, THE BEST OF A COUNTRY STAY IN THEIR COUNTRY.

Wherever you are in the worl you have rights!!! Simple!!
Dating And Meet-up Zone › Re: Ok, That Is It! Where Are The Single Naija Men Of Quality Over 35? by Chiekezi(m): 3:13am On Jul 27, 2007
i disagree, think of the worst pain you have had in your life and then multiply that by a hundred, thats the emotional strain and trauma that comes with divorce or living in a bad marriage, unless one is foolish or has a death wish they will avoid this
Dating And Meet-up Zone › Re: Ok, That Is It! Where Are The Single Naija Men Of Quality Over 35? by Chiekezi(m): 1:15am On Jul 27, 2007
Oh Yes they are still in existence and abound all over. Like I said though, they may be a bit more circumspect and view those of the fairer sex with a bit of scepticism due to wounds inflicted on them in earlier encounters. Once they no longer suffer from "rebound syndrome" and cease to view all women as witches, they invariably tend to be more reliable as they are wont to make the same mistake twice!!!

Computers › Re: The Best ISP In Nigeria? by Chiekezi(m): 10:38pm On Jul 25, 2007
With Mynetcom, we have no coverage outside lagos. However with VSAT, access from the east is possible and is as good as our VSAT coverage anywhere else.
Computers › Re: The Best ISP In Nigeria? by Chiekezi(m): 7:46pm On Jul 25, 2007
Let me say that in considering an ISP provider bear these factors in mind.

1. What contention ratio are you getting?
2. Does your ISP have a Network Operating Centre In Nigeria?
3. Do they have a dedicated 24/7 Customer service
4. What is the nature of their after sales service?

Yes Netcom gives shared service but this is only in two instances, a) when the customer requests for it b) On our Mynetcom Service

All service on Mynetcom is shared and coverage is limited to the commercial centres of Lagos State at present.

We always ask customers how many pc's will be used on the network, what applications will be running etc etc, however we have plenty of instances where people say they will use Bleep/Bleep on 7 computers and then after installation they complain of slow speeds. The thing is that we monitor our network 24/7 and it is possible to tell what exactly is happening at every remote location. I can tell you whether you are using gnutella, udp, http and so on and so forth down to the PC itself. So when we have a guy who says he wants access for 10 pc's and then we notice 30 pc's on that site its a concern.

There are a lot of isP's in Nigera so people are free to choose. This choice is predicated on issues such as cost, contention ratio, reliability, automatic uplink power control, customer care etc, We find that people want to pay the least amount and get the best service. This does not work, The best service costs the best money as you cannot drink champagne with beer money. Netcom has never claimed to be the cheapest but what we do claim on we deliver,

World class service, fully redundant hub, 24/7 customer service.

Remember, cheaper is often more expensive in the long run!!!

@ Salsera

Many thanks, merely evidence of a mispent youth frequenting Stratford-upon-Avon. Will try and tone it down.

@ Obirin

In so far as marriage is a life-long commitment, a lot of men do not put in as much time in choosing a wife as they would in buying a house or a car in some cases! I have been privy to many conversations amongs my ilk where the salient points where how pretty is she; the geometrical proportions of the intended; the "trophyability" of the said partner et al. At this point i must confess to being a guilty party.

As to the whereabouts of the eligible naija bachelors I don't claim to know the answer. What I will say is this: A lot of us who fell into the mistake i highlighted above tend to be more circumspect after the harrowing experience of a divorce or annulment. Although one may emerge from this experience the better for the wear there will always be an initial scepticism of the fairer sex. This said, divorcees tend to be more reflective (a little genaralisation - forgive me) and appreciate the bigger picture more.

Forever is indeed a long time. With the wrong partner it is an eternity. I always take solace in the words of my parents who have been married for over 37 years yet seem only to have met yesterday: Be patient, be kind, appreciate the little things, and above all pray. In summation, I would venture this - the eligible men/women over 35 or indeed any age are all around us. All we need is a little dash of maturity to appreciate the good in the other as opposed to negatives, a sprinkle of humility to temper our egos and know when to apologise, and a large dose of prayer to give us the grace to confront issues within our relationships as adults.
