@car-doctor pls. i am planning to work on the gearbox of my Merc v boot sportline 6plugs engine. I was told that it has Sclass gearbox. Problems: difficulty in changing gear and rough gear change with shove etc. I entered into a storm around October last year and i noticed mudwater in my gearbox oil, the mechanic washed it with chemicals before refilling it with 8 1L of Sea Horse atf. I dont know whether it is right oil but it was fine until these problems.

We all know that China phones has funny sound when ringing, pls how is the ringing sound of this E3? Is the ringing sound as good as ringing sound of a Nokia phones? Thanks

The gear changing process on the w124 Mercedes is controlled by a vacuum operated modulating valve. The modulating valve is connected to a vacuum pipe from the inlet manifolds throttle head. In most cases, the vacuum pipe connections may come loose and possibly fall off leaving the modulating valve inoperative. Check underneath the car by the side of the gearbox where the valve is located and see if the vacuum pipe has come off. Secondly, trace the pipe to the inlet manifold to see if it is connected too. If everything is ok then it may be that your gearbox has internal issues which may require you bringing down the gearbox for repairs.

thank sir, it difficult to find a mechanic that we tell you that vacumm pipe has losen. They prefer rekiting to make more money.

I drive Merc v boot sportline 6 plugs engine. I noticed recently that my car gearbox refuses to change gear. When i engaged gear the RPM will be reaching 50 to 60 while the speedmetre will be less than 40. I had noticed sometime ago that my R everve was not working but it miraculously became okay. I consulted a gearman who requested 45k to rekit it. He said that my gear box is S class version and that the fibers are weak. I dont what to do now. I was even adviced not to travel with it.

Go to car electrician to use a relay. Sorry, i called my electrician and he said it was a Relay not an alternator. I had a similar problem on my M. benz and he used a relay on it. I presented chikasin4 toyota sienna problem to him and he said that he should work on the stirring. Once again, sorry for the misinformation.

your engine is doing alright from my reckoning. it generates the power required of it. The problem is your transmission (gear box). It isnt transfering that power from the engine to your tyres. It is slipping. I don't know a lot about about transmissions cos they are so complex and differ from one vehicle to the other. However, here is what u can do. Check your vehicle manual if you have one for the recommended transmission fluid and buy it. Flush the old fluid out and either wash the filter or buy a new original one. Replace the filter and fill up with the new trans oil. Most times this fixes the slip problem in most transmissions. if it doesn't fix yours, the experts in the house might offer some other solutions. cheers.

Thanks sir, you may be right. Sometime in october last year my car got flooded and the auto transmission got soiled. All the soiled oil was removed and washed with chemicals before eight tins of Sea Horse A T F was refilled. Although there was a time i was having problem with Reverse but miraculously it stoped.Thanks again, i will look at it.

Siena: Much will depend on the engine in question, as well as how well it was maintained. But generally, a typical 4 cylinder petrol engine in a modern vehicle will do in excess of 260,000 miles, before any major repairs are required.

Sir please i was travelling with my M. Benz sportline e300 6 plugs engine, i noticed that if i acceralate the engine rpm will raise to half while the speedmetre will be little above 40. If try to increase speed the rpm will increased further, i became afraid. Atimes the car will quickly surged forward. I dont know whether the engine is getting old or dying. I always service it with Mobil Super XHP 20w-50. Pls i need ur advice.

At times is better than factory fitted ones. I m using one at the moment and its fine.

The prices vary according to location. The price of fuel pumb at coal camp Enugu will not be the same at alaba Lagos or alaoji in Aba Abia State. The last direct one i bought for merc was 11,000 including fuel filter and i was told that 2500 was repaid ones. Original new one was at 6000 which i was told was far better than direct belgium.

Again, 45 - 50 psi is way too high. Inflation pressures are nothing to do with the vehicle's weight. The tyres are meant to look slightly flat at the bottom where it's in contact with the ground. That is perfectly normal. If it's completely round at the bottom, your tyres ARE over inflated, no ifs or buts.

Your vulcanizer's are putting your life on the line. And those who've used Mercedes-Benz W124 before you obviously know more than the manufacturer's themselves.

You don't have to "try 32 psi". Obviously you're not happy about this, otherwise you wouldn't mention "trying". So feel free to over-inflate your tyres, and I wish you all the best of luck.

Sir we live in a very bad environment. A lot of pot-holes and stormy roads. We believed that if it is well inflated it will easily pass through pot-holes than when it is under inflated. But thank sir i will do as you said.

Unbelievable Sir, any vulcanizer you gave merc v boot must inflate 45psi and when you ask why he will tell you that merc is heavier. Even those that started using merc before me always inflate 45 to 50psi and told me to do the same. I will try 32psi but certainly it will be like flat tyre to me. Once again, thank you.

Ideally, and in the interest of retaining good handling, if you intend to raise the ride height of your car, simply replace the springs with standard ones. The Mercedes-Benz 300E Sportline, as the name suggests has Sport suspension. Which means stiffer dampers, and shorter springs. Replace the springs with springs meant for a 300 SE, and that should sort that out. Alternatively, you can go up a rim size to 17's. You can then run 225/45x17 tires.

50 psi is way too much. It has absolutely nothing to do with the weight of the car. This is why I always insist the Owner's Manual is read. Your car needs 32 psi for just the driver and a passenger, or 36 psi if the car's fully loaded. Your car weighs less than a Mitsubishi Pajero, which runs 235/75x16 tyres, yet the recommended tyre pressures are 26 psi. A Sport bike can run up to 44 psi, yet is much, much lighter than a car. 50 psi will produce a rock-hard ride, be rough over bumps, wear out quicker in the middle of the tread, AND lack grip. Pretty dangerous, especially on a wet road.

Siena: Lomo, you're giving wrong advice. The difference between 205/60x16 and 205/75x17 is a massive +87mm, or 13,34%. Way too much. The maximum permissible difference 2,5%. Those huge tyres are going to rub on the wheel arches if there are 4 adults in the car. The speedo's going to be so inaccurate, it might as well be disconnected. 215/75x16 are no good either, +77mm or 12%.

The ride will certainly be quieter, but handling will be WORSE. Raising the centre of gravity doesn't improve handling, the 75 profile tyres will flex when cornering even at moderate speeds. The 75 is the percentage of the tyre's width, in this case 205mm.

205/60x16 = 652mm.
215/60x16 = 664mm.
215/75x16 = 729mm!
205/75x17 = 739mm!

The tyre size the OP fitted as replacements are closer to the originals, and well within tolerance at +12mm / 1,84%.

205/75x17 tyres are NOT for regular hatch, sedan or estate cars. They're meant to be used on SUV's. Too thick and heavy for passenger cars. Fuel consumption will go through the roof too, due to the extra gearing, with a manual gearbox, the car will be awful going up hills, with automatic transmission, the shifts will be erratic due to the extra load the engine will see.

@OP, the sizes you've chosen are fine, the extra road noise is due to the extra rubber in contact with the road (10mm extra). Tyre pressures should not exceed 34 psi either, otherwise the tyres become too hard, and noise increases. I'm willing to bet your tyre shop has set the pressures closer to 50 psi.

Pls sir, i need your advice. I have a mercedes v boot 300 sportline. The tyre range is 205/60/15 which is lower than other merc v boot i have seen which has 205/65/15 and bigger in size. I gogled the sportline brand of my car and i leant that it comes with low profile tyre of 205/60/15. I'm desperately considering raising the height of my car to 205/65/15 because of the swampy and potholes ridden area i lived in. My tyre dealer adviced me to do that and i already have one as a spare. I also use 50psi because of the weight of the car.

I leant that victor moses is not on the team. I m afraid of their strikers wi thout moses. Infact they should come back If they fail to beat tahiti. No martins, no Osase na wahoo! I doubt whether the team will go far.

Is it proper to drive faster at that period to aviod been stoped by unseen objects like stone or drive as slow as possible?
