The Minister of Transportation, Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has spoken on how he rejected N1bn bribe from a contractor while serving as the governor of Rivers State.

Amaechi was speaking at the first annual lecture organised by CKN news with the theme, “The Role Of The Social Media In Socio-Economic And Political Development Of Nigeria,” held in Lagos said he rejected the bribe because of his principled stance on corruption.

“My first confrontation with bribe was with a big contractor in Rivers State.
After awarding the contract, he brought a billion naira. I screamed. “I asked, ‘where did you get the money?’ and he said from what he got (from the contract) and I said ‘look, that means you overquoted the contract’. “I said ‘the only reason you are giving me N1 billion was because if the contract was N32 billion, you made it N37 billion’.
“I have been special assistant to the governor for two years; speaker, eight years; governor, eight years; minister nearly two years…that’s nearly twenty years. “So I know Nigerian politics well. Very, very well,” he said.
Speaking on social media in Nigeria’s political and socio-economic development Amaechi said that in spite of its positive uses, the social media is capable of destroying Nigeria if not checked.

The Minister noted that so many politicians engage the social media to tarnish the image of their counterparts saying that most of them engage young men to come up with stories that do not exist against their enemies in politics.

“When it was published that I own a property worth N50 million, I just waved it aside that the news won’t go anywhere until it became serious.
The social media misinform the public, they don’t verify their information, they have no rules and they can publish anything. It is a tool that politicians use to damage the reputation of another politician. “As a governor, if you don’t want crime to continue, the best thing is to create wealth.
The feedback the social media platform provides helps to check the efficiency of the government, and in the bid to create employment, politicians have made use of the platform to reach out to prospective candidates.”
“Social media can destroy this country, true or false? Just look at Biafra; and that’s why Nnamdi Kanu can say all he is saying and still get a forum. “Most politicians pay young men to post all sorts on social media.” he said.
“I was governor for eight years, for about seven years people used to say ‘this man is arrogant’, how did they suddenly say this man is corrupt?,” he said. “PDP used to say ‘Amaechi is our response to Fashola’.

So when did they suddenly say ‘Oh, he didn’t do anything. “And I say to people, because somebody just went to pay money and, on social media too, there’s no rule.

“The first time they attacked us we came out with document. But they (social media users) don’t verify. On the controversial $43 million Ikoyi fund, Mr. Amaechi said people claiming that he owned the money were peddlers of false information. “When they said that I owned $43 million Ikoyi money… I made just a one-page reply: ‘I don’t even own a house in Lagos’. “I thought people would have said, ‘Ah, eight years as governor, he should be a very rich thief, so he should be able to get a property in Lagos and use it as a form of investment’. Nobody! “Many people started celebrating, ‘It’s Amaechi’s money, it’s Amaechi’s money’.
But people who know me know (that) if I have money, you will know. “When people meet me and I am not able to spend, it is just basically because I don’t have money… The important thing is, money doesn’t govern me. “But social media twist it the other way; so the problem with social media (users) is that they misinform…they don’t verify their information, they have no rules. Only decent ones.”
“Nigerians say I am stubborn, am I stubborn?”, he asked. His question generated echoes of “Yes!” from the audience. “Stop there,” he continued, “Let me tell you why you are wrong: once you are a principled man, then you are stubborn.
“Nigeria doesn’t have any word called principle,” Mr. Amaechi said. “It just shows that we need to go back to our value system, so that we can put a place where we can add principle…where they can give you money and you look at the man and tell the man, ‘keep the money’.”
Commenting further, Mr. Amaechi said the removal of Goodluck Jonathan as Nigeria’s president, was a bigger threat than Biafra.

“The removal of President Jonathan was a bigger threat than Biafra. Nigeria was inching towards the civil war. So, forget the talk about secession; Nigeria cannot breakup,” Amaechi said.
He also said that the social media would play an important role in the 2019 general elections. The Director of Public Affairs, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Tony Ojobo who represented the commission at the event however disclosed that the agency has established an act to caution frivolous and inhuman posts in the social media.

27-year-old William Ekanem, who works with Bedmate Furniture Company, Magboro, Ogun State, has been left almost crippled and in pain, after his spinal bone was allegedly damaged by his Chinese boss, identified as Master Wan.

It was gathered that after Ekanem challenged his boss for poking his nose into his personal business after he demanded to see a bag of rice the victim bought from a lady identified as Iya Melo, on the premises of the company,
was beaten by his boss who is skilled in kung fu, who also stamped his foot on the victim before he was rescued by some other workers on the premises.

After Ekanem who had not been able to walk well or stand straight reported at the Ibafo Police Station, the Divisional Crime Officer allegedly openly took a N50,000 bribe from the Chinese company.

Punch Metro reports that he was said to have backed the company against the Uyo, Akwa Ibom State indigene, who was accused of exaggerating the assault. But a doctor at the Owode general hospital, confirmed the victim was not exaggerating the effect of the assault.

A medical test conducted by Divine Touch Hospital, according to Emeruwa, revealed that Ekanem suffered “loss of lumbo, sacral curvature, and associated muscular spasm resulting in his inability to walk, bend and flex.” .

Lekan, the Nigerian manager of Bedmate, was alleged to have pressured Ekanem to drop the case, saying he could not fight the Chinese company due to his poor background. Ekanem’s lawyer, Felix Emeruwa, is, however,demanding an apology from the company and payment of N50m compensation.

Christ Embassy succeeded on Television. No ministry is yet to beat the hours dedicated to Oyakhilome’s theatrics.

Religion succeeds in Nigeria.

If I start a church today, it will succeed. Calling or no calling.

Because we are not people given to anything apart from an obsession with things we cannot see or have any control over, whilst all that we see rot away and are destroyed by our innate corruption.

This cute online revival will change nothing; even if we gather half the numbers in Nigeria to spread their faith on third mainland bridge and cry out to God (apart from that good feeling that plasters your heart after belting out and sweating on a few hallelujah songs).

This is the era of knowledge. We are not Israelites under Moses. Salvation has come. Jesus has come and died. What else do you want?

We have had too many spiritual revolutions. What we need is a mental one.

You cannot pray Nigeria to greatness. It is impossible for God to move in a country where we allow our police to discard rape cases with the wave of a hand, and our politicians rob us blindly. It is not up to God to save the rot in our educational institutions or fix the drainage on our roads. It’s up to us. And we can’t do any of that on our knees. We get shit done in 2017 by cerebral drudgery.

Religion is like soda. It’s Coca-cola. That drink isn’t going to save anything. It’s feel-good… and like Coke, we are addicted to this feel good process. Every Sunday we go to church to get our feel-good tablet. Then we have to come out of that fix after a few hours and face the issues that have been haunting us for decades, still unsolved. Still in need of a different approach.

Religion makes us vulnerable, self-centred and clearly delusional. It attacks our rational and coherent capacity.

Things are moving well in your life and a miracle occurred in your life and you finally got an answer to something that had been bugging you in your life because you prayed. But your prayer doesn’t have the depth or promise to change the problem called Nigeria. Your little success is beautiful. But what does it matter when every part of the country you call home is a wreck.

If you have beautiful lips but your body is ravaged by cancer, what then does it count for - those beautiful lips?

#HallelujahChallenge will succeed bigly. That’s a given. Not a miracle.

Why then are y’all so surprised that you can gather 50,000 people online? Revivals are our biggest achievements. The most educated will bow to a man of God who couldn’t pass his WASSCE exams. It is why we are what we are.

Stop being so shocked that people want to serve God. It is what we do. It is the only thing we do well. When we are done, we go back home and justify a paedophile, or delay the transaction of a debt, or bear false witness. Or choose any of the 100,000 ways to live sinfully. Then the process continues the next Sunday. Like a dark cycle, like playing russian roulette, until your own dark faith and spinelessness kill you.

God, however, wants you to get your knees up and go challenge your Local government for a start. He wants you to write a petition and follow through in regard to Queens’ College. Or choose any 100,000 ways to fix your country.

Try #ScienceChallenge, a hashtag that hopes to promote facts through experiment and observation, and see how far that will go. It definitely will not get 50,000 people questioning why we, a people of over 170million, cannot produce our own malaria drugs.

Do you know if they close the borders of Nigeria we will all die? Over 90% of our daily needs are imported. Even toothpick.

But prayer is the key. Smh."

Popular Nigerian Twitter user, Uduak, who got the NDLEA reportedly trailing her alongside her friend over a cocaine scandal is at it again, and this time she’s tweeting ‘least things’ she wants her man to do for her.

A Nigerian man who has been identified Daniel Entony Daberechukwu, has been arraigned in court for allegedly raping a 19-yea right-old campus beauty queen, Miss United States International University Africa (USIU), Nneka Enyantu Obi.

Daniel denied raping Nneka. The suspect is said to have committed the offence on March 19, 2017,after the complainant attended a friend’s birth day party at Thika Road Mall where the accused was in attendance.

SDE reports that Police alleged that all the friends attending the party were drinking alcohol and enjoying the music until 11pm when they switched clubs around the campus. The court heard that around 1.30am, the complainant and Daniel left for the hostel.

It is then that Daniel allegedly offered to escort Nneka to her room since she was too drunk. Police allege that he started kissing her along the corridors. It is reported that instead of taking her to the room, he took her to his room.

She woke up to find herself on his bed, while Daniel was on the floor. It wasn’t until she reached her room that she realised her panty was missing and her privates were in pain.

Daniel has since denied the charge and was set free on Sh500,000 bond and ordered to deposit his passport in court. The matter comes for hearing on June 9, 2017.

Weeks after a N30M bounty was placed on his head, the police made a major breakthrough in its efforts to arrest the rising cases of kidnapping in the country on Saturday, with the arrest of a notorious kidnapper, Evans.

It was gathered that the high profile kidnap kingpin, Evans, was arrested on Saturday afternoon in his mansion located in the highbrow Magodo Estate, by operatives of the Inspector General of Police’s Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

According to Vanguard, Evans, a native of Anambra State, who have made billions over the seven years he operated his kidnapping ring, was apprehended at about 1pm.

News of the arrest of one of the most sort after kidnappers, was said to have brought immediate joy at the Abuja Headquarters of the IRT, which had been saddled with ending his reign of terror.

Two men who were offered lifts by seven women in two separate incidents, were reportedly sexually assaulted by the women according to the Police in Zimbabwe who are already investigating the incident and who advised the public to be vigilant when they are picked by women.

It was gathered that the first victim was held up with a gun, forced into the bush, raped and then drugged, while the other was knocked out by a drink and abused while unconscious.

The Herald reported that Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said one of the two recent victims, aged 37, was picked up in Harare on May 27 by a car containing one man and two women.

A woman who came aboard at the same time, the policeman said, pointed what seemed to be a pistol at the man after the driver had taken the car on a detour.

Chief Supt Nyathi said the woman force-marched the man into the bush, adding that: 'One of the females forced the complainant to have sexual intercourse with him without his consent, while another female accused forced the complainant to drink an unknown liquid which left the complainant unconscious.'

The other man also boarded a car in Harare, this one containing five unknown people, before being offered a drink by a woman which knocked him unconscious.

Chief Supt Nyathi said: 'When the complainant gained consciousness he discovered that he had been abused.'
Last year police were on the lookout for four women alleged to have sexually abused a 29-year-old man after offering him a lift in the Zimbabwean capital.

In 2015, another man also aged 29 was allegedly raped at gunpoint after being given a ride from Magunje Growth Point.

However, this message which revealed Ben’s follower who has been abroad for a while and recently returned to Nigeria, plan to carry out a DNA test on all his kids to ascertain their paternity, asking to be referred to a good hospital to carry out the test because he has been suspecting his wife might not have been faithful to him all the years he’s been away, sparked the DNA drama/war.

This post got mixed reactions from Facebook users, as some felt he had no right to conduct a DNA test without his wife’s knowledge, especially considering that he left her lonely for years and he was most likely not 100% faithful to her while he was away.
Soon after he shared the post, Ben got a threat from a female reader who cautioned him against bringing up the DNA test issue and warned him that he was going to destroy a lot of marriages if he continues advising men to test their kids. This led to a lot of arguments; some in support of men taking all their kids for DNA test because a lot of women are no longer faithful. There were those who were against the test and the drama has been going on since last night till now.

It never stopped there, as Ben’s Facebook group, Ila Otu, with more than 25,000 followers was reported to Facebook and has now been taken down.

Meanwhile, one of the DNA test argument that caught our attention is from a Facebook user called Mama Denzel. She wrote that if a man requests to carry out a DNA test on your kids and you know he isn’t their father, the next course of action should be to kill him.

Another user wrote that it is illegal to conduct a DNA paternity test on your child/children without the consent of your partner according to the Human tissue act of 2004 (UK).

However it seems the DNA test has been conducted anyway, as the result showed that out of the 5 children the lady in question bore him, he’s only the father of one.

It has been gathered that before he slumped and died while training with his team mates in China, Ivorain Footballer Cheick Tiote’s wives and mistresses were fighting over him.

According to a viral report, the trouble in Tiote’s home was ignited when the footballer who is married in the UK to a woman named Madah with two children, traveled to his native Cote’Ivoire and married another wife named Doukrou Laeticia. He also had a child with a mistress named Nkosiphile Mpofu.

An according to sources, these three women plus some more have been battling over Cheick Tiote.

They reported that she fainted when she saw the photos of her husband marrying another woman – whose name she did not know – on Facebook.

The first Mrs Tiote (pictured above with the footballer) is now said to have forgiven her husband, but his 33-year-old Zimbabwean mistress, Ms Mpofu, is believed to have recently ended her three-year affair with the footballer after he allegedly promised to make her his wife.
While she was said to have been ‘comfortable’ with his being married, she apparently decided to call the relationship off because he ‘used me like a mop’.

Ms Mpofu was pictured earlier this week leaving a Waitrose store in the village where Tiote lives with his family, with her son by the footballer, Rafael.

Newcastle United was not available for comment.
Tiote received interest from Lokomotiv Moscow during the summer and was thought to be keen on a move to Russia.
He remained on Tyneside after Lokomotiv failed to make an acceptable offer, but his contract is set to expire in 2016.

A Nigerian teen Jude Chiedu Akachukwu, who walked into a professor’s office without being invited, closed the door, blocked the doorway, threatening that the professor won't leave the office until she agreed to allow him to make up an exam, was arrested on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the 19-year-old college student imprisoned the Santa Fe College professor against her will, and also grabbed her arm as she tried to walk away.

The professor said she would call the police, and Akachukwu threw himself on the floor crying. The professor left her office and went to a nearby classroom to teach. Akachukwu followed and began to disrupt the class. Akachukwu was charged with false imprisonment, battery and disturbing the peace. He was being held Wednesday in Alachua County jail.

Revealing the challenges he's been facing lately including being homeless a year after his father's death, late boxing legend Muhammad Ali's only son, Ali Jnr, has accused his family members of stopping him getting an equal share of the boxing legend’s £62million fortune. .

45-year-old Muhammad Ali Junior, disclosed that he has only received three “measly payments” of £2,000 in the last two months and is sleeping on a friend’s floor in Florida, just days away from living on the streets because he can’t afford to pay any rent. .

Ali Jnr said an equal slice of the ­inheritance had been agreed at a meeting in California with his seven sisters, adopted brother Asaad, and the will executor – Ali’s fourth wife of 30 years, Lonnie, 59. .

Here's what he told Daily Mirror:

“It looks like I’ve just been cut off completely. I don’t have a bank account, so they’ve had to wire money to me. It’s been a rough year. This isn’t what my dad would have wanted. .

He would have wanted me to be OK, have a place to stay, have my money. I’m going to live off water now, as that’s all I can afford. Getting food is hard, as I don’t have a cent to my name. I just find a way somehow to get food each day. .

I’ve got nowhere I call home any more.”

He said he has begged other family members for help. For the last 20 years, Ali Jnr says he has been ostracised by the family, having little contact with his famous father.

He lived on Chicago’s notorious gangland south side with his wife Shaakira and daughters Ameera and Shakera, struggling to make ends meet cleaning people’s yards and doing odd jobs.

But his marriage fell apart just a month after his famous father died, amid accusations that he ran out on his wife. He insists she dumped him and forced him out of their marital home.

“I stayed with the marriage to see if things can work out, but I had 11 years of complete unhappiness. I love my daughters and I would do anything in the world to be with them. You can ask anybody that know me and they would tell you Muhammad is the kindest, sweetest man they have ever known" Ali Jnr told Daily Mirror.

Chibuihe Obi, a writer with Brittle Paper who has been missing since June 1, according to some Twitter users, was kidnapped for “spreading Satanism”. One user said the writer who lives in Owerri was kidnapped over his last article on homosexuality.
Chibuihe is well known for his essays on LGBTQ-themed poems.

Here is an excerpt from his last post on Brittle Paper detailing the previous threats and attacks he and others have been faced with.

‘It is over a year now since we started publishing LGBTIQ-themed poems. Threats have been coming. Thick-brained humans come to your Facebook inbox and write long sermons peppered with hate and warnings. They’d tell you to get ready for them. One asked Romeo (Oriogun) to send him some money or he’ll send policemen after him. Another actually reported him to his superiors. One Sunday evening in April, Romeo contacted me to say that someone has reported him to the police near his new post. The officers called to inform him that they’d be at his post to arrest him. Although we were able to avert the purported arrest, because it was baseless and out of question, the threat, the harassment, was psychologically draining to Romeo.’

‘Last August, a random number left a message in my WhatsApp inbox. There was something curious about the name which made me ignore the content of the message. But I have stopped making public my locations on social media. I register my presence long after I have left the place, and if there is need for that. I try to keep my movement discrete. This way I have been able to forestall any premeditated attack.’
‘Romeo ignored this, made light the threats and, last week, he was attacked.’

Romeo was the winner of the 2017 Brunel International African Poetry Prize. He won the £3,000 for his “beautiful and deeply passionate” writing on masculinity and desire in the face of LGBT criminalisation and persecution.

Two gay vultures in a long-standing relationship have become parents after successfully hatching an egg, according to a Dutch zoo report.

It was gathered that Staff gave the gay griffon vultures an abandoned egg, which they cared for in their nest for two months.

Zoo keeper Job van Tol said the two fathers are "a very tight couple" and are doing the job perfectly.

"We have had them for some years. They always build a nest together, bond and mate together," he told the BBC.

"But, as two males, the one thing they could not do was lay an egg."

So when staff discovered a lone egg that none of the other vultures would adopt, they first cared for it in an incubator, and then decided to place in the male couple's nest.

"It was a bit of risk as we had no guarantees of success, but we thought, finally, this is their chance," said Mr Van Tol.

Gay vultures

Artis Amsterdam Royal Zoo said the new parents are very protective of their fast-growing chick, which is now 20 days old, and they have been breaking up its food to make it manageable to eat.

"As in some penguin species, vultures do everything the same, they alternate all the jobs. Females lay the eggs, but they breed together, they forage for food together. Males are programmed to have that duty of care," said Mr Van Tol.

This is the zoo's first successful hatching in five years.

Another chick was also hatched during the same period, by two heterosexual parents who were rescued from a road accident in Spain.

"We are lucky to have two very special stories this year," said Mr Van Tol.

The zoo is hoping to release the two new birds into the wild when they are older and independent.

Nollywood actor, Emeka Enyiocha, who sway in the Nigerian movie industry and was a poster boy of some sort, left us all in suspense after he disappeared when his ovation seemed loudest.

Saturday Beats caught up with the movie star who had been missing in action for over seven years, and he revealed why he left the movie industry.

“I left the industry because I got married and I started having kids. Immediately I got married, I started having kids and I had more responsibilities to deal with. I had to be closer to my family and kids so that they would not call me uncle when they see me. Marriage and family slowed me down. It definitely slows someone down except you do not want to take care of your family. I tried to combine marriage with work because I was doing my production.

While I was away from the industry, I was into partnership with a close friend of mine. We did productions together. We did ‘The Patriot,’ which is a fight against fake drugs and adulterated products. We did ‘School,’ a movie about rich kids causing trouble in the school and we did ‘Champions of Our Time,’ in partnership with the Lagos State government. It is about the physically challenged and letting them to know that their status does not amount to a mental disability and we won so many awards with this film” he said.

The actor said that while he was on hiatus, he explored other businesses one of which was that he became a bar operator. In his words, he learnt a lot from being a ‘beer seller’.

“In the process, I opened a bar and became a beer seller. I was trying to know the other side of life which actually taught me a lot of lessons. I saw a lot and it taught me to be humble. It taught me how to be humble to the lowest. It also taught me how to save money, respect and appreciate money. As an actor, when you get money, it is in the booth and you don’t have time to do anything, so money does everything for you. You go from one location to another and at the end of the day, you would find out that there is nothing left.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, Nollywood actress, Mary Uranta, has hinted that being an actress is just a stepping stone, as her final destination in life is to become a prophetess. The daughter of a Primate of Cherubim and Seraphim church, explained that already she has seen signs that she is destined to toe that path.

“I may not be a pastor but I am going to be a prophetess. I know that in the end, I am going to do the work of God. I would be a prophetess. Already I dream and it comes to pass but I don’t see visions. Being a prophetess does not necessarily mean that you have to see visions. I know that in the end, I would do the work of God. The actress was quick to state that it was unfair for anyone to label her church in bad light. She added, “I still attend Cherubim and Seraphim church. I am not afraid or shy of the God I serve. Following the script stealing allegation made against her by Nollywood actress, Stephanie Linus, and writer, Miss Daniella Madudu, over the “substantial similarity” and semblance to her original work, titled BEHIND HER VEIL, Ms Joy Ndidi, Stephanie Linus’ associate, has responded to the copyright infringement laid upon her.

It was gathered that a representative of Mrs Linus, Adeola Adeyemo, alleged that “Stephanie Linus will not be making a comment on this now as her Lawyers are handling it.”

However, here’s Ms Ndidi’s statement refuting the allegations;

“I JOY NDIDI hereby refute Daniella Madudu’s claim that I copied her book to give to Stephanie Linus- idahosa. Miss Madudu claims that I was one of her editors in 2011; This is a malicious lie as I have never read her book. I met Miss Madudu in 2014 in a friend’s dorm on a visit to Obafemi Awolowo University. I was introduced to her by a friend.
I have always been a diehard fan of Stephanie Linus and I found out about her blog, in August 2012 where she posted a picture from the scene of dry.

I had a friend who worked at Genevieve magazine early 2013 who gave me one of his old phones, I had a problem with my phone at the time. I saw Stephanie Linus number saved on the phone. I called the phone number but I couldn’t get through. I finally got across to her in May 2013, after I sent her series of my articles. I became her blogging assistant in June, 2013. After which she had already shot the first part of the Movie ‘Dry’ (Nigerian scenes) as she showed me a teaser trailer on a visit to her house as her office was in her house.
In July 2013, Stephanie released her teaser trailer in support of the “Child not bride campaign,” a month after I started working with her and she shot the remaining part of the movie same year.
I met Daniella Madudu in February 2014, a year later. I was never Daniella’s friend not until that year. I also have cause to believe Daniella is doing this in order to exploit Stephanie Linus as I heard from a mutual friend that she is trying to release the book behind the veil and she wants to use Stephanie for cheap publicity.
Stephanie already shot her movie before she hired me or ever met me at all and even released a teaser trailer before I met Daniella at all. So, her claims make absolutely no sense as facts don’t lie.”

For wearing revealing clothes for dinner, two final year students of Makerere University, Uganda are to be disciplined. It was gathered that the school authority labelled the outfit they wore to the university function as “indecent”.

The pre-tattered dresses have been making the rounds on social media since the weekend when the Finalist Education Dinner took place. The two have been summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee.

In a letter dated Tuesday May 30, 2017, and addressed to one of the students said to have appeared in the pictures, Ms Rebecca Naddamba, the Makerere University authorities had expressed dismay over the students’ conduct.

The letter, as published by Ugandan Mirror online reads, “If it is true that that person was you, your action, as a student of this university, would have contravened University Regulation 8 (2)(a) which states that, ‘Every student shall respect him/herself and behave in a manner that will not bring his/her name and that of the university into disrepute;’ and Regulation 8 (2) (d) which states that, ‘Every student shall dress in a neat and decent manner.”

Confirming this, the Dean School of Education, Dr. Betty Ezati, disclosed that the letter have been written to the students, summoning them to the disciplinary committee. She declined to disclose what a typical disciplinary action is.
The students have until Friday, June 2, 2017 to submit their replies to the university.
