Dogalmighty17: Considering that the fastest selling vehicles in Asia and Europe currently are EVs and not ICEs, one can't help but wonder what Dangote's end game is. Africa, not just Nigeria isn't advancing holistically to that stage yet. The entire population of Africa can't boost an average of 9-12hrs supply of electricity per day. Sorry to say, Electric cars are far off for adoption in Africa(not just Nigeria) in the next 20yrs. If Europe n Asia don't patronize his refinery, Africa continent including Nigeria will be it's biggest Market and its big enough. |

Goke7: Obj is now the new messiah 😂
Nigerians get problem sha always feeling nostalgic of the yesterday’s failures Shows how relative the world is. Nothing is actually good or perfect in itself. An action you make today will be heavily praised by those around you or those you do them for.. Several years later after encountering much more prolific people who deliver such actions seamlessly and even more. Your hitherto guaranteed "good deeds" and high praises will now be watered down relative to the new found favours. We are all a product of our experiences at each point in time and it changes with each experience. OBJ was heavily BASHED!! both during his tenure and even much strongly in yar'aduas time. Only NOI and probably Soludo, Akunyili, Sanusi, Jerry Gana and few others have probably individually remained fairly in the positives during and after their offices. |

Mpeace: I heard the insurance companies that have met or can easily meet the new recapitalisation requirement are Aiico, Mansard and Leadway for the composite Insurance . Then NEM, Cornerstone, Coronation(wapic) Custodian and Universal Insurance for the General insurance requirement. But lead way is not listed on the exchange.
Pls DYOR. Interesting. But Custodian also does Life Insurance as well. It should fall under composite insurance as well. Unless its plans to oust that one out. |

@Bolded I guess this is exactly what he meant. you might have interpreted differently. You guyz are probably on same page. Streetinvestor2: ........ ... Is DIL not the one to benefit most in the dividend as the owe almost every thing Or how else again is DIL supposed to benefit from the cement company. Abi they can just go and collect the money cement made like they are into sole proprietorship business . Infact he paid #30 for 2023 and 2025 when they did not earn up to that in 2023 and 2024 as eps I believe you are justifying the increase in Dividend as a necessity to fund his refinery. I guess he read it from a different perspective. you guyz are in same page. You come dey complicate matter awesomeJ: Sorry for quoting you. And that's the only apology I owe you.
However when you mention the refinery and you refer to 2023, then your own ignorance is obvious.
I'll help you.
The refinery was announced in 2013. It started gulping cash from DIL at about that time.
But especially more since 2020. The cost has gone from $13bn to $20bn and naira woes had made things worse.
2020 was about when Alhaji shot up payout ratio significantly and it's been high ever since.
You mentioning 2024 means you either have insufficient context or you didn't read the post well. |

Deadlytruth: Being a newbie, the best strategy for you is to buy fundamentally sound stocks which have very low OS and quite low prices. That way, you will hardly record losses even if you don't make profit. temi4fash: Example of such stocks Low Price(below ₦5), relatively low OS, good fundamentals so far. Cutix Pros-Healthy asset/liability ratio. -Low Long term liabilities. Currently undergoing business expansion(Capital Expenditure) -Issued Bonus last year 2024(though not likely in the next 3-5yrs). -Dividend consistency over a decade. -over 10% dividend yield within the last 4 yrs(price @ QD). -Very Good Cooperate Governance (Issues result when due and informs the shareholders on any vital info). etc... ConsCutix-Thin profit margin (expenses almost eats up revenue) very low cash flow currently + lots of short term loan obligations. -Mostly a regional stock with few distribution outlets outside it. -Not dominant in the big construction cities and markets of Lagos or Abuja. -Has a lot of other competitors even within the region; new ones are springing up. - competition with imports as well e.g Chinese wires. -Not diversified enough. One major segment contributes over 80% of its revenue (Wires & Cables). -Depleted retained earnings due to bonus issue(less than 1bn) -etc.... Mbenefit Pros: good fundamentals for 2025 so far.(though seems fairly priced). Likely to come to market to raise capital for capitalization. -Healthy net assets. -Healthy Shareholders Fund. -EUPHORIA of insurance law effect in coming months and implementation could add good omen to it. etc.. ConsInsurance stocks are volatile in sustaining yearly performance. Poor Coperate Governance. -Inconsistent dividend. etc.... Do your further due diligence. |

You can't try this nonsense in western country I prefer this kind of law breaking than the one you suggested. Spirit of every law is more important than the letter of the law at the surface. Well, it depends on the amount involved. compulsory yearly Insurance dues might drain liquidity of some Landlords if cashflow is tight. some tenants no go burst landlord if them get some compesation or waivers after. It will mostly be a win-win game for them to agree. Though I agree with you. It will be difficult. |

Mpeace: Lol. I don't think we understand the possible impact of the new insurance Act. Insurance companies are in money.
One provision I saw that convinced me on their prospects is the provision for compulsory insurance of buildings.
Every landlord must insure his building yearly. Penalty is N1million or 12months imprisonment.
NAICOM is empowered to inspect and seal buildings not insured. (Rent go soon increase)
There are many other provisions and mandatory insurance of items that you cannot imagine. But this property insurance is the real deal. Every property in Nigeria. Na wa
Agba na because of you I enter Aiico and it has given good short term returns. If not for this your comment Na you I dey consider to give my 10% commission but I don't change my mind. Again I have been thinking: If residential houses(owned and lived in by the owner/relations) and are not included as public buildings going by this definition of what constitute a public building. If a landlord is to insure his building, just to bypass this compulsory insurance, the landlord could collude with his/her tenants to claim they are living there for free.(no payment or transaction). More like a relative or Charity residence/philanthropy.

Borrowing to pay dividends. You can know this when the dividend declared is more than the free cash flow.
Nestle dipped hands into reserve in order to pay dividends about 2 years ago.
You also consider the debt. I think total debt should not be more than twice of the EBIT.
Late submission of financial reports to regulatory bodies.
