Travel / Re: Finally Migrated To Australia At Age 48. This Is My Story So Far by chineduisaac(m): 9:03pm On Mar 31
Usefulsense:
I want to sincerely thank everyone who had contributed one way or the other in this thread.

One point I didn't state here is that I sent my wifey more than two years ago on student visa.

We are currently being sponsored by her employers.

I wouldn't have embarked on this journey if I wasn't sure of having my papers.

Thus it was a lot easier for me because my partner was already here before I came with the children.

To make it fast here at my age, ensure you come with your wife. Both of you will together make it faster especially if none of you is selfish.

Wifey bought me car as soon as I landed here. This is because, to get a job here, you need a car. In fact, in some job adverts, it is an important requirement.

Don't come alone at my age especially if you have no pathway to getting your papers. It is very difficult to get papers except you are under sponsorship.

To come here, please do the following:

1. Learn how to barb. The importance of this cannot be over emphasised. If you are the type that visits barbing saloon every week like me, learn how to barb.

I barb myself and my son every week thereby saving over 160 dollars every month.

2. Learn how to drive. This one is also very important. Please it is in your best interest to do that.

3. Forget some of your cloths in Nigeria. The mistake I made is that I came with all my corporate wears. My suits, trousers, good shirts and ties etc. The are useless here. Come with enough jeans, chinos, pollos, canvas, winter wears, cardigans etc.

4. Come with food ingredients. Till today, I find it difficult to eat some of the sugary foods here. Thank God I came with loads and loads of egusi, ogbono, scent leave, crayfish, Maggi, ogiri, pumpkin leave, utazi, ukwa, ukpaka, pepper, etc.

My bag wasn't checked at the Sydney Airport.

5. Treat malaria before coming. There are no malaria here.

6. Go and learn a skill. Eg forklift driving (counterbalance and high reach). You will most likely start from a warehouse when you land here.

7. Have some money at hand for the first few weeks of your stay before you come in.

8. As soon as you get in here, please network and find other Nigerians. This is very important. Here in Australia, Nigerians behave like brothers in helping you to settle in. Note that nobody will give you money.

It was yorubas that helped me so much in finding a job through their contacts. My fellow igbo brothers were there for me too.

9. Finally, when everything has failed, hold on to God tightly. I am a living witness.

Sir you mentioned that you will discuss why things goes sore between husband and wife abroad which eventually leads to divorce. I'm quite interested in this topic

Politics / Africans Need To Develop A Groundbreaking Philosophy by chineduisaac(m): 5:52pm On Aug 04, 2023
Africa is wrong in only attracting foreign investors and international funds to cure their economy.

Africans need to develop a groundbreaking philosophy, if we are to tell our own stories to the unborn generations. At different stages in the world history, Africa has missed out on major events and activities that changed the course of history and humanity. Agricultural revolution of the pre-historic times, that elevated humans from mere parks of hunters to towns and villages that grew and harvested food. The pre-historic agricultural revolution led to humans first striving for civilization and development. Africa as a continent equally had their own share of agricultural advancement. As agricultural advancement propagated the need for technological tools to transport and produce more foods in places like mesopotamia. As crude technological advancements like the invention of the wheel and other important inventions of early B.C continued. As powerful cities that mined gold and silver were rising across the Middle East and euroasia. what was going on in Africa?

Africa is blessed with a large bio-diversity of exotic animals
Africa has been proposed as where humans first evolved from our primate ancestors by many scholars. Evolution in biological science plays a vital role in how animals adapt to the natural course of planetary bodies. Dinosaurs didn’t survive when asteroid hit the earth, only because they weren’t adapted to survive such event, but mammals evolved and adapted to conditions on the event of asteroid hitting the earth, they did managed to survive. Evolution as crucial as it is, took place in Africa.

But why did Africa miss out on the later agricultural revolution, military revolution, hellenistic influence, renaissance, and the industrial revolution? Why did Africa miss out on Hellenistic influence? Why did Africa only wake up during the age of European exploration and conquest?

History has played it’s on toll on Africa. Africa’s major participation in historic events was broadened during the age of European exploration and conquest. When the need for Europeans to expand and find new opportunities amid the tense oppositions they encountered from the Islamic and arabian caliphates dating back to the fall of the roman empire. All the culture the Europeans have developed for years when they first came under the Hellenistic influence from the Romans led to the age of exploration. Christianity was a hallmark for European powers, during the middle-ages due to Roman influence. When Europeans arrived in Africa with their several century old refined cultures, they came with various reasons, Christianity was among them. They came for resources to fuel the ongoing industrial revolution in American colonies and Europe. Africa experienced a culture shock, when the Europeans first interacted with them, a continent as close as it can be to the major places and cradles of major events that shaped human civilization, unlike the indigenous people of America before the Spanish conquistadors brought European several centuries of refined culture to them. They also experienced their own level of culture shock. The major technological progress that led to the exploration age was the invention of seafaring geography and improved navigation systems, an art and sciences that the Europeans refined over crude Francs, Slavs, Anglo-Saxons and vikings way of seafaring owing to the Hellenistic influence. Africa as close as it was to powerful ancient civilizations like the Egyptian, Roman, and the greek civilization, during antiquity had little to show on whether these civilizations spread their cultures to Africa. No Greek, Roman or Egyptian Architecture were reported in central, west or south Africa, when the British empire carried out its conquest in africa. Why these ancient civilizations failed to propagate their cultures and technologies across Africa could be the toughest questions to ask, was it due to Africa’s climate and natural condition or was antiquity seafaring not good enough to circumvent the gulf of Guinea, or were there not enough people in Africa in antiquity. Antiquity civilization had little time for exploration, as the major heavy lifting for human civilization and development was carried out by the Greeks and Romans. Were the antiquity civilizations too occupied with euroasia affairs that they didn’t bother to move their empires into Africa.

What Hellenistic culture did to the Europeans is what the age of exploration did to Africa. Europeans (Anglo-Saxons, francs, Slavs and Scandinavians) have taken several centuries to process this culture and adapt it to their own philosophy and reasoning. Africa needs it’s own philosophy in order to recover from what the exploration and industrialization age did to us. Europeans and Americans have the best of technology and philosophy in this modern world as it seems. This technology and philosophy are products of centuries of adaptation to the major technological and philosophical heavy lifting that the Romans and Greeks underwent in antiquity. The modern world might present itself as a solely technological and economic utopia, but amidst all the hype and burst, amidst all the economic and financial markets, amidst all the science and engineering, amidst all the religion and cultural identity, amidst all the industrialization and urbanisation.

What role can philosophy play in helping Africans understand what role they need to play in a historic timeline?

Africa has contributed a lot to the modernization of the world. From American slaves to African miners and resources that have served a good number of nations and economy. Forget about the resources that the world needs from us, forget how we are exploited for these resources, forget about how our leaders have been corrupted by money and power. These things are not philosophically rooted. Why the west seems economically massive as they are today, originated from several century olds of philosophical breakthroughs and adaptations they had. Africa needs to recognise that amidst all this pressure for us to score up economically, remarked by international organisations and funds. We need to develop ground breaking philosophical systems of our own, tailored to the issue we are experiencing from the culture shock of the exploration age European and Islamic influence. Africa needs to evolve just like everyone has done in history, it sure will take time, but Africa needs to show that indeed human evolution took place on its soil, hundreds of thousands years ago.

Good one from Singaporean government. If this is what it takes to keep your country sane and organized, then do it. I'm sure the citizens are well informed of this law. If a person still wants to go ahead with drug trafficking, that means he/she is ready for the consequences.
It's stricter corruption-free laws and enforcement agencies like this that Nigeria needs.

Stay here in Nigeria. Live in a very suitable neighborhood in cities like Abuja. Go on vacations to any part of the world yearly.

I believe we have top schools and hospitals here in Nigeria. But if that's not ok for you, send your children abroad for studies and go abroad for health issues. I think if you save and invest well, you can afford them

This is absolutely wrong of the students. I don't care if our country is less developed than the countries they got their respective higher education from. The government sent you there to acquire advanced knowledge for the betterment of your country, as patriotic (at least civil) individuals you are obligated to come back and give back to your country. I'm sure there would be well deserving jobs in place for you already, if not, you yourself develop ideas that will create jobs. That is the main reason you were sponsored abroad.

At the very least if you can't do the above, repay the money that was spent for your education with interest.
Damn it!!!

daboy18:
My 16 years old sister left the house since Christmas eve only to be returned yesterday evening at 11pm , my dad was very angry he promised to deal with her in a way she will never forget throughout her life , my mum said he shouldn't or else they will be war.

When the girl returned my dad asks where she was and she was busy chewing gums and turning her eyes like she was having epepilsy seizure my mum was shouting at him to leave her alone but my dad hit her omg the slapped sound it still haunting me.

It was my first time seeing my dad being a man of the house that he is supposed to be long time ago and I was so proud of him but that didn't last long when my mum slapped my dad back and they started fighting omg .

She beat him up my dad is not strong cus of diabetes she locked him outside saying if I dare to open the door for him she will locked me out too.

I quietly went inside my room crying and I left the house early morning to go and look for my dad he is actually at his elder brother place he says he will not return back.

I feel sorry for him and I have sworn to never marry a woman like my mum she doesn't deserve the titled wife or mother and as for my sister she is cursed for disrespecting dad and the time she will realize her mistakes it will be too late for her.

I wish my dad a long life so I will over pamper him when I become rich, I am only 20 and one day I will make him proud.

You are 20. How can you be this clueless?
