I get you. And doing it at Wits takes about one month in attendance from 8:00 -16:00 daily. Very rigorous course I must say.

Don't think about how, you can't afford and what you cannot do and all negative things. Gather the information, apply at Wits and do quotations so that you will know what you need and works towards that. Things will just fall together.

I did my TESOL with Wits University in SA. Wits language School.

I don't have any idea about Egypt. Another best option is doing it in the UK, because majority are linked to Cambridge which is required by most recruiters and Saudi Ministry of Education.

Please beware of fly by night schools in SA which won't add value.

one wonders if its compulsory to divulge your personal information? I think its pressure to fit in and be seen as a better somebody and low self esteem.

I just saw this thread and I'll like to share my experience.
My husband got a job as a Doctor through one of these agents BHP Global to work with Saudi MOH in 2010 and I joined him in 2011. Being a lawyer, I couldn't work in Saudi coupled with the fact that I had my first child in 2012. I was frustrated and very lonely so in year 2013(and another baby on the way) I traveled to England to do the one month CELTA course ,I had my baby and I got a job offer immediately from a University in Jeddah with my Nigerian passport but as my husband's dependent. I was offered $3000 and I took it.
I completed my one year contract in May and my husband got a job in UK after completing his MRCP exams and we just moved to UK.
The moral of my story is that aside from money, Saudi has a lot of opportunities for Doctors because you get to meet doctors from all over the world who can advise for on your career paths.

As for Jeddah, I will see what will happen next year. I am enjoying Hail, it is a bit ancient and strict, but its good for me for now. I prefer smaller cities and less busy areas.

Normally they prefer Tesol in class (120hrs) minimum.
Well your total earnings would have improved so much. And you would have saved a lot together. Though I do not have the details of your current earnings to tell you if you made a right decision or not, but I know you were not going to regret in the long run.

Iqama in simple terms is a Residence permit which allows you to work in the Kingdom. Transferable Iqama simply means to transfer your permit from one employer to another ( without having to go back to your home country and start the process all over again).

So in your case you do not have an existing one so it's not applicable to you.

I have a collegue with just a Law Degree from the UK, she is from Sudan though she has UK passport.

NB: If you are not fron their preferred countries, it looks like the minimum requirements get tougher.

Thanks so much. That will be helpful I guess. But guys, be alert of any scams or human trafficking parasites who use well meaning sites for their evil. Some of these websites are not all good.

Consult, ask at the embassy, research, research, research.

Very untrue, some employers do employ people with no experience. We even have ex- exotic dancers, hotel managers, photographers as English teachers with no prior teaching experience or facilitating experience.

In such instances particularly when you are from any country either than the preferred countries, they require

I don't think you would like to be in Saudi as a casual worker. Besides they prefer man from Pakistan, Indian, Phillipinos,Egypt, Syrians etc. they don't or should I say rarely employ woman in a lot of places like retail, hospitality.

This is a different place my dear. I can only advice a woman to come to Saudi on a professional contract and not these casual blue collar jobs. You will regret it because you will be exploited and abused.

Some employers don't mind experience and some do need experience, they specify.

For instance when wanting to teach English, they require that you should have a Degree+Celta/Tesol and experience if you have it. If you don't, you get an entry level salary or you risk being exploited.

Well honestly I am in no position to say you will or will not get a job.

But teaching at a University requires that you have a four year Degree and not Diploma.I cannot dictate that you should apply or shouldn't apply, but bear in mind that if you have less than the minimum requirements, you are increasing the chances of being abused and being exploited.

Again bear in mind that being a Muslim does not guarantee a better life or treatment in the Kingdom, instead African Muslims and other Muslims are looked down upon.

With regards to scholarships, I would be lying if I say I know much. But at the University where I teach their intake is first Saudis, then Syrians, Egyptians and lastly Sudanese who are all dictated what they can or can't register for. Courses life medicine, engineering are reserved for Saudis. We just had our intake exams for the next academic year which starts in August.

Again majority of the courses are mostly delivered in Arabic even though textbooks are in Arabic and English. Are you fluent in Arabic

So with regards to studying and scholarship, do your research, I can't help you much because majority of such information is written in Arabic.

South Africa pays better than this. Try them, don't listen to all the Xenophobic stories. Just network with other doctors there and compare their stories. I am not sure what their registration procedures are.

I know it may not be appealing for now, but they pay way better than what Saudi Arabia is offering. It's normally $4000+ at a government hospital when you are registered excluding some allowance. And even more for specialists +$8000 And some make more through locum work.

Weigh your options dear.

@ChineloSA so I finally decided to go and look around after thinking and thinking about it,it is not a scam o,there were saudi doctors there that conducted the interview,the money is for the agent organizing it,then u get to stil pay the agent one month of ur salary up front and what they were offering is not encouraging,plus my hubby won't be able to work cos he does not hav experience in other field except law,so I didn't bother,though they still hav 2moro and next

Dear I am happy that your decision is soley based on your own observation and weighing things that will not work for you. I would have hated to influence your judgement alone.

Yes, its true your salary on Nigerian passport may not intice you. That's a sad reality. Nationality pays you a better or worst salary. If you were British, American etc, I can tell you, you would determine what you want.
What I have been saying is just reality though some people will lie on this forum and claim big salaries on Nigerian passports.

I am still not happy about paying the agent. I wouldn't.

But goodluck with everything, it would have been a great experience for you and your family.

No I am mot saying that only that there appears to be a lot of restriction. I know a few people who worked prior to coming to the uae. The pay was good but that appeared to be the best part of it. Cost of living appears to be cheaper in the kingdom compared to the uae. Your ACs over there I hear are more powerful, probably because you people don't go out much over there

Just kidding. Expats can do their private parties inside compounds, but yes there are no clubs in the Holy Land. So you save a lot.

With regards to standard of living, I have not lived in UAE so I can't compare. But as a single person you can spend less than SAR1000 a month or less which is an equivalent of $300.I spend even less than that. Food is very affordable or should I say cheap especially fruits and veggies. Take aways are also affordable. The down side is Nigerian food is scarce. I only buy plantain and they call it Indian banana, but all our foods are scarce. So basically life is cheaper.

A/C's are there,just that Arabs are scared of cold air. in classes they can ask you to switch it off in these temperatures, while you are burning like hell. They are used to it.

I won't lie this place is damn hot and it not even summer yet. That's why they become active at night, during the day you may find no one at the Mall or anywhere public. But in public places it's always cool don't worry. And your house is AC ned as well.

I have learned a lot from this thread. There is bazically no life in Saudi Arabia from what I can gather when you compare to the UAE. You just make sure you save as much as possible from the fat salary and move on. Well alot of people who are here are here to make money and move on. This country is different to most Arab countries I gather. I have been to UAE and I can say there is a difference. Very hard to explain, but hey people have been working and surviving before me .

I am not God, I cannot tell you that you cannot or can be considered. All I reported on was paye discrepancies and preference of Nationalities, which is a reality, regardless how others don't want to admit it. Regardless of those who claim to have worked in the Kingdom say, they know its a reality.
I also said all Nigerians I know here do not use our Nigerian passport. I have also had conversations with them and they also admitted to being aware of Nationality preference in the Kingdom and also pay discrepancies.

They can consider you. Just put your application forward and see what will come out of it.
