winner01: We all evolved. Get over it. Your "coming from nothing" rhetoric is unwise because any way you choose to look at it, there will be a 'Nothing' at the start. "Everything that exists must have a creator" So your God must have one too. Who created him? It's quite reasonable to conceive a benevolent creator at the root of the start of the universe, but your current ideas of the origin of mankind and what happens after death are ancient caucasian folklore. You are living someone else's fantasy. 1 Like |

winner01: "Conscience" or Intelligence is a relatively late arrival in the evolution of mankind. Your 'soul', 'mind' and consciousness are all functions of one thing- your brain. Once all electrical activity ceases in your brain, that's it. Why do you think people with head trauma/ neurological or 'brain damage' injuries or illnesses seem 'souless'? The continuous evolution of the human brain led to a sense of consciousness and awareness, followed by several relatively uniformed guesses about where we're from and what happens after death. One of which you currently believe in. |

Now I know you don't have time for long stories, so I'll make this as short as I can, while trying to capture as many points as possible. Firstly, this is not religious or philosophical, it's just an attempt to pass across some information that most people that delve into the world of sports betting don't realise until it is too late. Sports betting in Nigeria has been booming exponentially since it was legalized. Unfortunately, there's no regulatory commission (none that I know of) which means the general public (especially young and uneducated ones) are at great risk. A lot of Nigerians are vivid sport watchers. Especially football. The records of past sporting results, current player forms and team tactics, give sports followers the impression that their 'knowledge' can be turned into a source of income (a concept unfortunately preyed-upon by betting companies). However there's a BIG difference between analysing past football matches and predicting results of future ones. Even the 'professional punters' that work for TV and news companies have a dismal record at attempting to predict results. Football is a largely unpredictable game, that's why it's fun to watch. Here are a few tips that I hope you might learn from; - Yes, Sports betting can be a source of income FOR THE BETTING COMPANIES. It is a business. A multi-BILLION Nigeria business. Everyday in my area, a new betting shop pops up. You think these guys would be opening more branches if they were losing money? Yes, you heard about the guy that won 2million naira. Did they tell you how much others (or even the winner himself) have lost? No matter how much they pay out weekly, it can never compare to their profits. It's a math based concept that is used to set the odds, ensuring they ALWAYS make a profit on every single game. - If you haven't started betting yet, DO NOT START. Here's how the psychology works (when you're in it to make money); If you win your first bet, you come back to make more and more, till you start to lose and you eventually end up in the negative. If you lose, you will come back with more money to get back what you lost. This is called "Chasing Losses" The cycle continues until you're bankrupt. -It usually starts from little 'harmless' amounts, then ends up in big money stakes that can ruin your life, if and when things go wrong. If you're thinking about making a big bet to get some quick income (I've heard of people betting their tuition, house rent, borrowed money etc) please don't do it. You will regret it. If you're addicted already or you know someone who is, the first step is to let go of all that you've lost. It's gone. You're never getting it back. Focus on productive ways to try to make a living in this harsh economy. I would advice you seek counselling help, but it's difficult to find genuine, nonjudgemental support amidst our hypocritical culture. I wish you the best. Sports betting is meant for fun. It can add some thrill to watching an otherwise meaningless sporting event. It's meant as a source of entertainment. Not as a means to earn a living. 3 Likes |
Religion / Re: Reasons We Female Atheist Don't Come Out by Chizzled06(m): 8:38pm On Oct 22, 2015 |
Everyday, I wonder how many Nigerians have realized organized religion is bullshit. The stigma surrounding being identified as an atheist can cost you your livelihood and personal relationships as you've pointed out, so a lot of people (men inclusive) still rather keep their lack of belief to themselves. I've given up attempting to de-indoctrinate people by having arguments, because these ideologies are deeply rooted in some people. I only encourage them to learn more, I've found that education (esp history, science) can open up people's minds and help them start to think rationally. 3 Likes |

blueAgent: If only you would read your bible and see how your God tormented anyone that wasn't from Israel. And How does God partake in evil? Nothing happens without his knowledge innit? Everything that happens is his will! According to your belief, everything on earth is God's creation. Including the devil. He can choose to destroy this devil and end all evil if he wants to. But no, he thinks that's too boring. He'd rather sit back and watch the evil unfold. Then when he gets bored again, he'll watch his other creatures burn. Forever. What a good God. 2 Likes |

Do you need a lesson on how the biblical Exodus story is Jewish myth that never happened? Or are you only interested in learning about the race of ancient Egyptians? 1 Like |

HCpaul: Honestly, I wish the idea of a "judgment day" was true. I wish there was some kind of cosmic justice at the end for us all, because in this life, wicked people prosper and virtuous people don't. But in all my years of studying the history of human religion, all concepts of an afterlife seem like inventions born of the fear of mortality. The chilling part of this is that the concept of an afterlife that you believe doesn't even depend on having morals or treating others right. Your creator is basically saying "Believe I exist or burn forever." This is my issue with Christianity, as well as a few other organised religions. You believe everyone who doesn't agree with the idea of God that you have been taught will burn in a literal flame one day, regardless of what they do. Jesus reiterated that his principal message was "Love one another." I hope you learn to do this. 1 Like |

HCpaul: Atheists are the fools but you, the smart one, believes that a book that justified slavery of your fathers at the hands of the white men, is the written word of the maker of your universe. Godlessness was once associated with immorality and bad behaviour. Now, many good people don't believe in any deity simply because they think it makes no sense. We all grow up asking the same questions; where are we from? What happens after death? Some people search deeper than others for answers, and don't take organised religion at face value like you have. You have chosen to follow a path of someone else's idea of God. Everything you know about your God was conceived by someone else. You are living someone else's fantasy. Many atheists know more about your religion than you ever will. That's why it's hilarious to see posts like these. If you choose to live your life by the words one book, the least you can do is find out about its origin. 20 Likes 5 Shares |

"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." Einstein, 1954 2 Likes 1 Share |

Anything that can be said to have a "scientific basis" must have passed through this process. Astrology is a PSEUDOSCIENCE. Check your dictionary for the meaning of that word.
