Back to the topic, in the simplest way, idioms do not make sense while figure of speech would make sense. For example is I say ''jump the gun'', it doesn't make any sense as it sounds opaque but it means your are too forward. Figure of speech on its own could be poetic. It can either be metaphor or simile or hyperbole etc. Example could be you going out and someone called you to say ''better take a jacket; it's raining cats and dogs out there''.

Note: I read engineering years back but I hope the linguists could do better justice to this. I like this topic very educational and shames one man that said the youths are lazy. Now we brainstorming as usual.

Now I have a car that I am selling that almost three people have been to my office to access with their mechanics and I didn't sell. Car45 with their intensive checks accessed my car and placed it on auction which best buyer says 1.2m on live auction I still didn't sell and you guys are here listening to one insane idiot. So because a new neighbor of mine drove my car likes it and wants a Benz and I helped her advertised and linked her with people that have Benz to sell it has turned into scam? The same lady saw my two Neapolitan mastiff dogs I bought from a guy named jendoakino I've never seen in my life till tmrw here on nairaland and I helped her place an advert same day and that has made me a scam? If that guy is so insane to be saying what he doesnt know I believe reasonable ones shouldn't follow him. One of my cars I sold last year was bought by two guys all the way from taraba and still thank me till tmrw.
