I was talking about Mendy's rise that started in 2020 and you are talking about Gomis that was dropped after his howler against Algeria.

Mendy of Rennes na 2020 oga, so before that season, anybody could have started for Senegal. Funny enough, Gomis of SPAL wasn't even considered good enough hence Ndiaye of Horoya was the starter in Russia 2018.

In a nutshell, Mendy has been good enough for the French team since 2020. Also, for the past 1.5years, he has been good enough to start for France if he had played for the French team.
