In a rather bizarre circumstance, hand sanitizers placed at vantage points at the precincts of Parliament to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) are being drained at a very alarming rate by some unsuspecting workers, thereby, denying others from accessing the product. This unethical act, according to the Leadership of Parliament, is done at a time when the House has suspended sitting and there is virtually nobody in sight. At a sitting on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is worried about the development raised the issue and cautioned that anyone caught in the act will be severely sanctioned. “Mr. Speaker, we are procuring the hand sanitizers and placing them at vantage positions. What we have realized is that a few individuals(suspected to be workers or parliament members) are draining the hand sanitizers and taking them elsewhere which is very serious. Mr. Speaker, we need to activate the CCTV and anybody who is caught in this, not only are we going to name and shame, but appropriate sanctions will be applied to that person. It cannot be that hand sanitizers are placed at vantage positions and overnight we come and then everything is gone”, he cautioned. The hand sanitizers placed at vantage points at the precincts of Parliament are part of measures put in place by the Leadership of the House to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The House has also in the interim, banned the public from observing Parliamentary sittings from the public gallery. They have also procured some digital infrared thermometer to check the temperature of workers and Members of Parliament before allowing entry. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://mobile.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/Thieves-invade-Parliament-to-steal-hand-sanitizers-898393&ved=2ahUKEwi_4rSPjqzoAhWDy4UKHagACE8QFjAAegQIBRAB&usg=AOvVaw1PjCcN9-X8t1XG13smXqM9&cshid=1584812459734 https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://mobile.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/television/videos.php%3FID%3D95266&ved=2ahUKEwi_4rSPjqzoAhWDy4UKHagACE8QFjABegQIBxAB&usg=AOvVaw0DI56NwQHsaywp0VXSAgU-&cshid=1584812459734 |
Ghana has legalized the use of cannabis for health and industrial purposes as it joins other African countries hoping to derive economic and health benefits from the substance. On Friday the country’s Parliament passed into law the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2019. The law now makes the country’s Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) a Commission with enhanced powers to oversee the industrial use of some narcotic substances. The Commission, however, will have the mandate to control and eliminate the trafficking of prohibited narcotic drugs to ensure public safety. Health experts have always campaigned for addicts of narcotic drugs to be properly rehabilitated and not treated as criminals. The new law makes provision for that as well now classifying drug abuse a public health issue. With the legalization of Cannabis for industrial and health purposes, Ghana joins countries like Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa who are changing their laws on narcotics. Ghana’s new laws will make room for cannabis to be used to make medicines and hemp fibres. Hemp fibres are used to make clothes, biofuel, paper and other products. Ghana is hoping to rake in some revenue as well when industrial production of cannabis begins. Industrial deals already signed In Ghana, there is already the Hemp Association of Ghana (HAG) which has signed a deal with a Ghanaian-owned Cannabis business operator based in Portugal. The deal will gross a staggering $ 56 million in five years from merely cultivating and exporting industrial hemp from a land size approximating 100 acres. It will rake in around $2.8 million per harvest of HAG’s industrial hemp on the planned 100 acres. Taxes to the Ghanaian government could gross over $ 10 million from just 100 acres of industrial hemp if the authorities evaluate the industrial potential of the plant taking the world by storm currently. President of the Hemp Association of Ghana Nana Kwaku Agyemang told Africa Feeds that “We seem to get lost in this issue of getting high, and all we can talk about as Ghanaians is smoking. As President of the Hemp Association of Ghana, "we are not promoting smoking, we are promoting the industry, we are promoting cleaning up the environment, we are promoting creating a new revenue stream for government in terms of taxing from cultivation and export and we are talking about promoting medicines that are far better than opioids, medicines that cannot kill you because no one has died from taking cannabis.” Cannabis Sativa is used for over 50,000 industrial uses, including being used as a cheaper alternative to cotton, paper car dashboards, and building houses and for medicinal purposes. The Global Cannabis Market is estimated currently at over US$ 100 billion and estimate for the next five years peg the market size at a staggering $ 300 billion. https://mobile.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/Ghana-legalizes-cannabis-for-health-and-industrial-purposes-900280

Prince Albert II of Monaco has tested positive for coronavirus, a spokesperson for the city-state's palace told CNN on Thursday. The status of the ruler's health "is not worrying at all," the palace added in a statement. Prince Albert was tested for Covid-19 earlier this week. The 62-year-old is continuing to work from the office in his private apartments and remains in contact with members of his cabinet and government. The prince is Monaco's head of state, and one of the world's wealthiest royals. He was formally invested as the country's leader in 2005. Monaco, a country with a population of no fewer than 40,000 people, had recorded nine cases of coronavirus before the monarch's diagnosis was announced. Neighboring France has been one of the worst-affected nations in Europe, confirming more than 7,600 cases and 175 deaths. "His Serene Highness urges the people of Monaco to respect the measures of confinement and to limit contact with others to a minimum," the palace's statement added. "Only the strict observance of these confinement measures will make it possible to stop the spread of the coronavirus." https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/03/19/europe/prince-albert-monaco-coronavirus-intl-scli/index.html&ved=2ahUKEwiDpqjzsafoAhWSzIUKHUtUA0cQFjADegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw39SAAv0k7KU6reFoKbR_oC&cf=1

‘It’s not going to kill anybody,’ Trump says at White House The Food and Drug Administration has been told by President Donald Trump to see if it can expand the use of an experimental malaria drug, chloroquine, to treat patients in the middle of the U.S. coronavirus outbreak. At a press conference at the White House Thursday, Trump and the head of the FDA gave apparently conflicting comments about the availability of the drug. Trump said chloroquine had been approved and could be given to patients by doctors with a prescription. “It’s been around for a long time, so we know that if things don’t go as planned it’s not going to kill anybody,” Trump said. Minutes later, FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn, said that use of the drug would be in a clinical trial to find out whether or not it works, and if so, what dose would be safe and effective. “Again, we want to do that in a setting of a clinical trial,” Hahn said, following up on Trump’s remarks at the press conference. Doctors in the U.S. are allowed to prescribe drugs for uses that haven’t been approved by the FDA, in what’s called off-label use. An FDA spokesperson said the drug had not been approved for use in Covid-19 patients. Trump also said that an experimental drug from Gilead Sciences Inc., remdesivir, is also “essentially approved.” Trump didn’t elaborate on what that meant. Hahn said afterward that the FDA has a responsibility to make sure drugs are safe, and work, even as it loosens regulation. Hahn said that issues like dosing would matter, given that the disease are different. The FDA has increasingly stepped back from its regulatory role in the middle of the crisis, announcing that it would let states regulate tests to diagnose the virus in order to speed their rollout. It has also said it is temporarily halting inspections of drug plants in the U.S. and abroad. The agency’s standard for drugs is to look at the risk posed by side effects compared with how effective treatments are. But the growing number of coronavirus cases in the U.S., and the lack of any proven therapy or vaccine, appears to have tilted that balance. Drug Pipeline Gilead’s remdesivir was originally developed for use against the Ebola virus. The drugmaker is expected to report early results of tests of the experimental medicine in April. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Tuesday its development efforts for a drug to treat the virus are ahead of schedule and it could start testing in humans this summer. Another therapy, the malaria drug chloroquine, is being studied against Covid-19, and China has included it in treatment recommendations. Even those in Trump’s inner circle have cautioned against equating early research on drugs with proof that they work. Deborah Birx, a member of the president’s coronavirus task force, said during Wednesday’s White House briefing that Trump had asked for a briefing on potential treatments for the virus. Birx said that even evidence a drug works in animals doesn’t mean it will work in people. “Of course, there’s always anecdotal reports, and we’re trying to figure out how many anecdotal reports equal real scientific breakthroughs,” Birx said. While a small percentage of people die from infection by the coronavirus, the vast majority get better on their own as their immune system attempts to battle the pathogen. That can make it more challenging to determine whether experimental drugs are effective. |
Muslims are immune to coronavirus – Islamic scholar, Ali-Agan says as he tells Buhari not to shutdown Mosques A renowned Islamic Scholar and Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Ilorin, Dr. Abubakar Imam Ali-Agan, has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari government, the Sultanate Council and Muslim authorities, not to shut down mosques in Nigeria over coronavirus. He spoke on Wednesday while reacting to the suspension of congregational prayers at Saudi Arabia. Saudi had on Tuesday stopped the performance of the customary five daily prayers and the weekly Jumat (Friday) prayer at other worship centres excluding the two holy mosques in Makkah and Medina. But Ali-Agan told PRNigeria that Nigerian Muslim males should be allowed to observe their compulsory prayers in mosques. He claimed that Muslims have already been endowed with a natural immune system to fight coronavirus. Medical expert Ali-Agan stated that health officials advise people to wash their hands which Muslims do five times daily before observing their obligatory prayers. “Again, our sisters are always adorned in Hijab, some even use Niqab and gloves. So, we the Muslims already have a potent immune system against coronavirus. That is to say that we don’t have any problem. “Even in France, I learnt that those that are completely free from contacting coronavirus are Muslim ladies and women who cover their face, use hand gloves and don’t shake hands with people,” he said. The cleric, who is also an Imam of a Jumat (congregation) Mosque, noted that the action of the Saudi Government is in line with Islamic teachings on preventing the spread of an epidemic in any area. He said the Holy Prophet specifically mentioned that if there is an epidemic at a certain location, people should not go close to that danger area or place. While those that are living there should not come out until the epidemic is wiped out. The prophet, by implication is saying we should avoid the spread of epidemics with necessary precautionary steps. Ali-Agan argued that the Saudi authorities’ directive is only aimed at forestalling the wildfire spread of the disease. “I don’t think the Muslim Ummah and its authorities in Nigeria should toe the line of Saudi by banning congregational prayers in mosques. “The situation in our country is quite different from what we have in the Arab world or even at some western countries. The killer scourge easily ravages their immune system and body. However, I am still saying we should go along with what the Prophet counselled. “Which is that we should not take epidemics or any killer disease for granted. We should take all necessary precautions. Any advice from health officials should strongly be adhered to and abided by,” Dr. Aliagan added. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.correctng.com/muslims-are-immune-to-coronavirus-islamic-scholar-ali-agan-says-as-he-tells-buhari-not-to-shutdown-mosques/&ved=2ahUKEwjCkszChKfoAhXCz4UKHYhzD9sQFjAAegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw3KejN0pH9xIi9qYTMK1n6Y&cshid=1584638162403

Kenyans.co.ke is reporting that; A man in Kibundani area, Kwale County on Tuesday, March 17, died after he was assaulted by a group of youth at night. The man, George Kotini Hezron, is said to have been suspected of suffering from coronavirus by the residents, who decided to take the law into their hands against CS Mutahi Kagwe's directive that any such cases should be reported through the ministry's toll-free line. Kotini is said to have been heading home after having a drink at Diani joint when he was attacked at 9 pm. "Kotini met a group of youths, and an argument ensued as the youths took advantage of his drunkenness and started accusing him of suffering from coronavirus. As a result, they seriously assaulted him, hence sustaining injuries,” read a report filed at Diani Police Station. According to K24 Digital, the attackers used stones and boulders to hit the middle-aged man, before they fled and left him. Police who arrived at the scene found that the attackers had already left and rushed Kotini to Msambweni Referral Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. Kwale County Commander Joseph Nthenge confirmed the incident to Kenyans.co.ke and stated that the police were following up on the matter. No arrests, however, have been made yet. This comes after Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday, March 18 announced the confirmation of three more Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Kenya bringing the total number of confirmed cases to seven. The announcement brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to seven. Among the three newly confirmed cases is a Burundian national who arrived in Kenya from Dubai on March 17. The other two, a couple from Spain, arrived on March 4, landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from Dubai as well. Kagwe warned of dire consequences for those who failed to self-quarantine on arrival, noting that they were required to swear a legal document promising to do so. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.kenyans.co.ke/news/50969-man-suspected-have-coronavirus-killed-mob&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiqnK2O-aPoAhVKQBoKHe-0BHIQFjAAegQIABAB&usg=AOvVaw3XHgnhkN33wlH_6Z8LS6Nh

Yet again, Ighalo fails to make the bench for his Manchester side . Here is to wish the super enthusiastic United forward, yet another spectacular outing |
andrewbaba44:Ur assertion brings ur Barca allegiance and knowledge into questioning. Wague was immense with Eupen prior the world cup, tremendous with Senegal at the world cup proper which culminated in his much celebrated(though uncerebral IMO) move to Barca. He got unfortunate with an injury and had a long lay off, on his return, he used the Barca B as a format for resuscitation, playing regularly with the likes of Puig, played few times for the first team and then left on loan for Nice for more game time. Mousa Wague can never be described as a bench warmer at Barca |
andrewbaba44:He isn't as good as Wague |
