Hello Nairalanders,

From the wheel to electricity, airplanes to the internet, and now AI, humans have been pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Some innovations have completely changed how we live, work, and even think.

For me, “the smartphone, because it puts the whole world in my pocket”.

Now I’m curious about you—

Which human innovation (past or present) has blown your mind the most?

Why does it stand out to you?

Happy with the draw against a determined and professional City side.

They are simply benefiting from a more organized and well funded system.

And to be fair Southern Africans have always had decent athletes from the Frankie Fredricks and Maria Matulo days. SA is just reaping the investment of long term investment matching talent on ground.

Pound for pound if you ask me Nigeria has the raw talent to be able to match Jamaica or even the US but our administrative failings are like a minus 90% to our athletics ambitions.

I mean how do you begin to describe administrators who forced one of your few biggest talents to run for another country or can't even do something as basic as providing half decent kits.

P.S. SA is still below us in football is our administrative anyhowness that always giving them an advantage.

Nomyth:
Does anybody else find it troubling that South Africa is beginning to have dominance in Athletics?

They have 2 sprinters in the finals.

They can't be challenging us in football and athletics.

Kanyinsola came 6th in the end no shame when competing against world class athletes.

Honestly the AFN should get its acts together because we have a potential generation of sprinters getting unearthed and it will be tragic to bungle it again.

Okon just came up short but has a bright future at 18.

Kanyinsola might officially be our next star boy in the 100m after so many years. Finished second in his heat just behind world and olympic champ Lyon.

After an 18 year wait Nigeria finally has a rep in the 100m finals and with his confidence who says he can't nick a medal.

I forgot to add that Okon's interview was beautiful. I dont know if you saw it right after his heats win.
They told him he had big names in his heat and he still won, wasnt he fazed? Okon answered, "I'm not scared of anyone. I have two legs, they also have two legs..."

Could Nigeria have a new track and field star?

Kanyinsola Ajayi ran a widely impressive 9.88 at the Athletic World Champs. He came second in his heat and qualifies for the the semis alongside Okon who won his heat in a time of 10.04.

In terms of realistic hopefuls of getting a medal apart from Amusan another Nigerian hurdler Nathaniel looks good for a medal placement in the 400m hurdles.

P.S. Apologies for slightly derailing this thread one needs to happy Nigerian sporting news wherever you can find it. grin

Snuffing out danger, protecting defense, while providing base for midfield. Unfortunately lately he's nowhere to be found when opponents are marauding in our half. Even when available gives away cheap fouls.

As for who raises the team Nwabali at the last AFCON did, We can see Benjamin and Tolu's influence.

Odunayaw:
My bad, It was FDB.
However he had a good game yesterday. Who in that team "raises" the level of the team? Who drops regular assists? Sodiq Arnold? grin

Let's talk about Ndidi. What is his role and what is your expectations of him? It's from this we'd know if you're consistent.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by chrisooblog: 1:37pm On Sep 10, 2025
You meant to say carry along had teammates who won meaningful trophies that he's using for clout. The only notable tournament he won was against youngsters which you yourself said can't be trusted.

Jay Jay AFCON winner and only Nigerian to be nominated for PFA player of the season by his peers.

raumdeuter:
Kanus career was filled with meaningful trophies which he led teams to win as an important player

Okocha on the other hand we cant find trophies for him even if we tried very hard
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:05pm On Sep 10, 2025
It was Fisayo who dropped the assist watch it again.

Osayi doesn't do anything that raises the level of the team. Does he drop regular assists? Does he cross well? Once in a while goal nko? Plus his defending is suspect. If the home based Sodiq was a solid fullback I would take him in an instant cos at least I've seen him deliver better crosses.

Ndidi is past it. On one hand can you name any particular game he was outstanding for the SE? I agree about Raphael can't understand why he hasn't been given a run of games. Is he so poor in comparison to Ndidi?

Yes coaches might be missing a trick when it comes to our midfield combinations but the personnel themselves haven't covered themselves in glory.

Odunayaw:
Osayi dropped the assist o. He is exonerated. You forget his wing was moribund for much of first half because the boys kept playing on the left.
For me, I'm not in a hurry to discard Ndidi. The problem is our coaches doing the same thing and expecting different results. I do not understand why Onyedika doesn't start. Thesupernerd has written too much on the subject of midfield combinations.

Truly, our MF should not be as disappointing as it is

Uche sef bring down my morale with the aimless shoot he fired towards the end.

Goke7:
Our midfield has been our weakest link for years now but with folks like bashiru and Uche I think we can still savage things. If Iwobi will play better from the wings there’s no point keeping him in his current position, just move him there as it’s becoming a waste of space and value. We need a leader in the middle of the pack to truly unlock defences and take the game by the neck. Enough of kasongo teams in Africa taking charge of our midfield for greater part of our games. It’s costing us decent results.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 12:06pm On Sep 10, 2025
Osayi has no end product. Wasn't particularly terrible yesterday but doesn't offer anything long term. Chukwueze aimless dribbles that don't deliver when it matters most. I've seen this movie many times to know we need desperate upgrades to Samu. Ndidi I like him but he's washed. The fact that we were able to get to the AFCON finals without missing his absence says that much.

Midfield over the past years post Mikel can't retain possession, make low level African teams midfield look like Spain, can't deliver defense splitting passes or score long rangers to save their lives. Really makes you appreciate the work Mikel, Etebo, and Onazi put in. Can't remember them ever struggling to impose their game on less gifted midfields. Even facing superior ones they gave as good as they got.

Don't blame Eric for trusting his captain just unfortunate Ekong choose now of all times to drop a stinker.

Odunayaw:
The only culpability Chelle has on Ekong is that he followed the "reasonable" voice and played an experienced captain in a nervy game. Beyond that, it was Ekong's besetting sin that showed up. Against Zimbabwe, on the right side (as someone would have us think is the better side), was he not caught ball watching too?

Meanwhile, what are you calling out Osayi for? He played with grit and urgency. Ndidi? Chukwueze? What did they do wrong?

The problem with the middle yesterday is that we take the ball too early (in our own half and at the midfield) to the flanks so the MFs have to draw closer to receive the ball while leaving the middle gaping.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 11:15am On Sep 10, 2025
Ekong was poor for the goal let's call a spade a spade and not a farm implement.

Was midfield that basically cost us this game.

I defend Iwobi many times but his lack of urgency to shoot in critical positions is baffling because this same guy was popping up everywhere for the SE 6-7 years ago what changed? The less said about Ndidi the better.

If we can find decent replacements between now and December Osayi, Ndidi, Chukwueze should be thanked for their service and bid farewell. Ekong is definitely going after AFCON while with Iwobi I'm caught in two minds.

I was wrong about Dessers I'm humble to admit no be SE quality at all.

Nwabali, Bruno, Fisayo, Uche under probation.

Odunayaw:
The replay is out there. Don't explain away things.
He was not struggling to keep up. His poor positioning is entirely his fault and frankly his habit. It has nothing to do with Chelle. This was the same thing against Algeria
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 10:59am On Sep 10, 2025
Benjamin played the full match yesterday bro.

BankyGee:
Gbam... Well well well said.

Plus Benjamin Fredrick played against Rwanda, yes, he was good but any coach will want to start Ekong because of how big this game is. Even subbing out Ekong and putting Fredrick was like him saying "omo, anything wey wan happen now, make e happen, let the boy play", and now that the boy still had a solid game, I'm sure Chelle won't make that mistake again. He no dey forget and he no dey fear anybody.

Benjamin made 12 clearances o, for someone that played just 45 mins.

Bassey and Fredrick are a match made in heaven.

Like another poster said we can leave kindergarten trophies for Kanu to be dragging with the likes of Nduka Ugbade, Chrisantus Macaulay, Rabiu Ibrahim and co.

When it comes to adult tournaments we know who we could rely on. AFCON winner and Nigerian legend.

Not a carry along player who spent more time on the bench than actually impacting games.

raumdeuter:
If out of 11 players you are not one of the top 7 you are just another member

You are talking about Champions League final, Does Okocha know what it means to play in CL knockouts never mind final. He will have to sit down and listen to Kanu and Finidi describe to him what it means to play in CL finals

Also winning the league anywhere. Kanu won in Nigeria won in Holland won in England, Okocha is allergic to winning league titles

Talk about in National colors, Kanu won U17, won U23 for Nigeria as the main man, Okocha failed U17, Faled U21, Failed U23, Carried along for National Team. Anytime we did well in National team, Key is to make okocha a substitute

Remind us how Okocha scored in the quarter final? A penalty, in the semi final they gave him another penalty he wasted it but for Kanu we would have been without that Olympics trophy
