My expectations for some of our players this season
Osimhen - Expect another 20 goal plus season from the monster machine.
Chukwueze - Expect a minimum 15 G/A contribution from Samuel this campaign. Also hoping he gets the starting spot on lockdown.
Awoniyi - Double digits goals looks achievable. Should be able to reach 15.
Lookman: 15 G/A contribution looks realistic Don't think he will score that many goals like last season but I expect plenty assists from him.
Iwobi: 10 G/A is realistic would have expected more but Everton under Dyche will be too conservative
Moffi: 15 goals plus
Umar: 10 goals? Don't know if the injury will affect his performance
Adams: 10 goals looks achievable if not more he has started well.
Orban: Wherever he eventually ends up I expect him to deliver 15-20 goals by end of season
Boniface: 10 goals? Skillful but not sure if he's prolific in front of goal
Iheanacho: Has it in him to produce 20 G/A but needs to move
Wish everyone including the ones I didn't mention an injury free season. |

When I heard how much companies are pumping into that reality show I just SMH but I can't honestly fault them because that's what most young people are watching. Nigerian football administrators are just damn too lazy and shortsighted. Caicedo's home town club are about to cash out earning $29m. Imagine what Remo Stars would earn from Ebenezer's future transfers if he becomes world class. charlesemeka85: imagine a useless reality show like bb9ja attracting sponsors that put in over 300m just to house, clothe and feed jobless folks for over a month 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nigeria is a hub for emerging footballing talents and if the nff present such proposal to clubs in europe such as Chelsea,Madrid,Inter,Milan,Manchester United,Man city,Madrid,Bayern,Dortmund,Ajax etc these clubs will battle to hv an affiliation with the football centre |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:37pm On Aug 15, 2023 |
What you said is the truth and nothing but the truth. Which always annoys me when NFF will say they don't have money to pay coaches or take care of their national teams, when if they do the basics right companies will be desperate to pump billions of naira into the federation. lovewins: Exactly. We won't just have to deal with corruption, but impunity and disregard for merit. You'll suddenly see merit thrown out the window, and you'll see them advocate for quota per state for players. The project will die a natural death.
Billionaires also aren't fools. They only put their money in something that will yield profit. The truth is it's easier to invest in Nigerian football when government is totally divested. People like Soname of Remo Stars and Shola of Sporting Lagos are taking a big risk doing so now.
I remember someone talking about how the DSTV broadcast of NPFL games became a thing of the past. DSTV had drawn a calendar of matches they would broadcast before the season began to allow for effective logistical movement. The NPFL would literally change broadcast venue 2 days to the game because a governor wants to attend another match not on schedule. DSTV will have move by road their multi million dollar equipments to another state because a governor decided to attend a game and he must get airtime.
You make a good point in that we don't have a sponsorship problem. Sponsors will only partner with a product they believe will give them the needed visibility without plenty drama. To also correct you, BBN didn't get 300M o, the primary sponsor alone in 2022 (Yellowcard) gave them $2M which in today's value is 2 Billion Naira. This doesn't even include the money they got from many of their other sponsors. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 12:27pm On Aug 15, 2023 |
I think it was Remo Stars. charlesemeka85: the major point I take from this is governments involvement which will give room for corrupt government officials to hijack it as well as corrupting the whole process
The NFF if not for its sharp corrupt practices which it’s known for can comfortably afford to own it’s own football centre/academy with the support of sponsorship from the private sector and affiliation with clubs abroad. This will be a win win situation to the footballing house which they will also reap the dividends by exporting this talents to clubs in europe
Sign on fees gotten from the transfer of players abroad will also be used in the everyday running of the centre. Maybe having it in all the states in the country will be very expensive which I agree but a centre which will be situated at Lagos preferably can be easily funded by the nff and sponsors only if they want
Business moguls like Otedola,Dangote etc can be incorporated, also big companies like MTN,Multichoice,GLO,Nigerian breweries etc as well as financial institutions can come in as sponsors. If a single individual can establish the best academy in this country which is situated in the west that produced Akinsanmiro (hv forgotten the name of the academy) then the nff with that gets its budget annually from the federal government as well as grants from Fifa can do more
No be the same companies wey full here dey waste money dey sponsor BB9JA annually?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 |

Ultimately Waldrum can choose the assistants you want to work with but Okobi can't select teammates she prefers to play with. Criticizing a fellow player when you have obvious flaws in your own game isn't on unless you're Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant who can walk the talk. Honestly for someone who has been to several WCs I still don't get her angst. Even if she claims the coach doesn't like her face her performance in the team would make her invaluable which is not judging by her performance at the WAFCON. BascoVanVeli: U have gone from not up to creative standards to not being good enough. That's a push don't you think? Creativity is just one part of the game. U can be creative all u want but if u don't have a good first touch and can't get past anybody, it amounts to nothing. U know better than to imply she said Toni isn't good enough.
That aside, the coach flat out said his assistants were not good enough and nobody died during the world cup. If those coaches can get over his comment, certainly Toni will get over Ngozi's critic. |

De Bruyne numbers (goals and assists) have proven he's indispensable to City. Please bring up Kanu's national team numbers I want to see something. TheGoodJoe:
Without De Bruyne two seasons ago, Manchester City was still very deadly, does that mean De Bruyne is ineffective? We had a good team and each player brought something different to the table. Kanu Nwankwo from the moment he burst into the scene had something special that made him go places. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 3:31pm On Aug 09, 2023 |
I'm happy you have resorted to listing teams that Kanu played for not bringing actual numbers or stats to back your argument. Again I'm not arguing or disputing Kanu's talent or abilities I'm just saying his performance in the SE is not all it's hyped up to be. TheGoodJoe:
I guess, him getting to play in Ajax, Arsenal, Inter milan happened with people not knowing a good player.
Kanu Nwankwo's playing style was an asset. We might have midfielders but Kanu's style added more fluidity and made the offensive players perform better. |

In 1998 without his 'fluidity' we beat Spain 3-2 with his same 'fluidity' Paraguay and Denmark beat us silly. For goodness sake what was Kanu's business dropping deep when we had the likes of Oliseh, Adepoju, Okocha and Oruma running things in midfield? Abi was he dropping deep to help the midfield in Arsenal too that he only scored double digit goals once in his entire time with the Gooners? TheGoodJoe:
Kanu, all games he played for the Super Eagles dropped deep to build up plays. All games. Doing this made the fluid team, more fluid. He was a golden asset as a forward because of the fluidity he brought to the team. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:25pm On Aug 09, 2023 |
My guy I'm a big fan of Kanu and appreciate his contributions to the national team but if we really analyze his overall performance for the SE as against his talent then you'll agree he's a little overrated. jihday: I agree that not scoring in 6 Afcons and 3 World cups is very abysmal but if you saw Kanu at Afcons 2000 and 2004 then you’ll agree that your judgment on is quite harsh |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:21pm On Aug 09, 2023 |
Kanu was ineffective to the team in 1998. Infact after the Olympics Kanu because of his heart surgery wasn't in the team but the SE were still deadly. Amokachi, Amuneke, Oliseh, Okocha and the rest of them really carried the team despite the alien 3-5-2 formation Troussier who was coach then introduced. TheGoodJoe:
That is the point.
The addition of Kanu, Tijani, Babangida, Oruma and Taribo, improved the team. With respect to talent.
Finito. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:16pm On Aug 09, 2023 |
I'm saying Kanu wasn't the one bringing the fluidity. It was Oliseh, Jay-Jay, Adepoju, and Oruma sometimes bringing the smooth transitions we saw back then. The 1998 team which you said was more talented it was guys like Oliseh that were making us an offensive force. Mind you Kanu was a bench warmer that year because he was still coming back from his heart condition. TheGoodJoe:
Na wa. I even argued that Kanu Nwankwo was a midfielder because of how deep he operated and your saying Oliseh. Kanu brought fluidity in your play, if you say the team was not fluid, then it meant Kanu was even more vital. But, you are forgetting we had Austin Jay Jay Okocha, and some times, Oruma used to come in. If we were not fluid, were these guys standing as sticks? |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:08pm On Aug 09, 2023 |
The 1998 team was a carry over from the 1994 team so apart Babayaro and Tijani and some extent Taribo it was basically the same team. The 1998 team in my opinion lacked depth compared to 1994. TheGoodJoe:
Poor preparation, not talent. Remember the whole Phillip Trousierre debacle and then bringing in Bora. Bora started working with another team, which had the likes of Ganiyu Ajide, yaro yaro, Siasia and co. Then later towards the world cup, we hurriedly put the team together.
Different from Westerhof who was stable for about five years. So the synergy was more. However, talent wise, Super Eagles 98 was more talented than Super Eagles of 94. |
