Osimehn wouldn't start for a championship club.

Rightly said. Military government especially in Africa as a whole and Nigeria in particular have seriously stunted our growth.

They more often than not indulge in the same corruption you want them to tackle if they not worse and at the end of the same day the citizens dare not complain.

The first coup in Nigeria did us bad but we would have made it up with second republic but Buhari did us bad again by overthrew Shagari/Ekwueme.The coup was just to stop southerner from presidency and this paved way for Babangida and Abacha to destroy everything.

Military ruined this country,if not for the coupl Alex Ekwueme would have been Nigeria president

My dad had a copy. Was an interesting read. Won't spoil it for you by giving details but it gives context to the myth that the first coup was 'planned by igbos'

One of my old man’s collections. I went visiting recently and saw this book I don’t know existed amongst his collections while growing up .

This is certainly going to be an interesting read . The author is one of the 3 majors (Nzeogwu, Ifeajuna and Ademoyega) that planned and executed the first coup in Nigeria .

It’s unfortunate they don’t teach history in our schools again. 😔

Dude is a charisma machine. Robert Downey did well to boost Iron Man's appeal like you said his counterpart in the comics was as dry as AY's jokes.

Like you Spiderman and the Hulk were the characters I knew from marvel plus the fantastic 4 to some extent due to the Thing cartoon they showed back in the day.

nihilistjnr:
Thats what Black Panther is for, and that literally had to have the backing of the MCU machine and charismatic leads in Chadwick and Michael B Jordan and piggy backing off the BLM movement and Anti-Trump Sentiment.

Otherwise there was very little interest in a Black Panther movie. OG comic nerds like myself have known of Black Panther since childhood when he was married to Storm from Xmen.

When I was growing up, the Marvel wonder metal was Adamantium which was what Wolverines skeleton was coated in, not Vibranium which really only gained prominence with Black Panther.

The big hitters then were Spiderman, Xmen, Cable/Havok/X-force, The Hulk, and maybe GhostRider.

Tony Hawk, and the rest of the avengers were B-league guys that would typically show up featuring in a Spiderman story. Iron-man used to have the deadest cartoon on the Cadbury breakfast TV roster those days, with Spiderman being number 1.

Robert Downey Junior literally changed the game for Marvel despite playing one of their deadest characters, facilitating an environment that would allow a super black IP like Black Panther to be successful.

Prior to that, nobody would be going for such Black film series, and I would be very surprised of we get another Black hero movie that is as successful anytime soon.

You're still on this narcissistic egotistical power trip about all things EPL.

The EPL outside the 6 top teams is nothing special when it comes to football quality that's a fact.

Portuguese league has been the sixth best league in recent years but typical of yourself you left that crucial fact out.

Chaves are relegation candidates but they came 7th last season. Not only are you delusional but you need to go to specsavers.

Portuguese teams have consistently punched above their weight in European competitions which is a true reflection of their league's quality.

You're free to take potshots at Nwakali but at the very least I commend the young man for going to a higher level of football to improve.

You had better learn how to critic players before you dig yourself into a hole then have to shamelessly retrace your steps with the 'he took my advice' nonsense.

komekn:
You are being way too ASSUMPTIVE and anchoring ⚓ your deduction on personal preference. As well as misinformation.

Portugal is rated 7th in Europe not 6th.

The EPL is rated number one in the world 🌎 so how did you dismiss the entire mid section and below as the EPL as low quality and standard ❓

You cannot dismiss money and player value as being inconsequential because quality players above all cost big money 🤑.

Not too long ago I made a comparison players by player defenders and forward players in Championship Fulham in comparison to Porto at the time. My conclusion were that man to man Fulham were superior at least in paper. And in a match I could not conclusively that Porto were better. Many found it an affront and responded with vitriolic rhetoric. But none actually objectively appraised the team players one one one side by side. Just emotive bias and preference.

In the EPL the bottom clubs have the capacity at any time to beat the top clubs , this is very common but highly if not impossible in the Portuguese league.

A championship top club will certainly contend with any EPL club at any time and even league one clubd regularly beat EPL opposition in the FA cup and similar.

Very few if any of the players in Chavez will get into a championship club, they are really poor quality. When you are paying players £1.5k a week. Please be honest what kind of players ar you going to get be honest ❓❓

Chavez FC is not competing in the Portuguese league they are just making up the numbers and will be resident in the RELEGATION ZONE.

Nwakali is effectively earning less than he earned in Ponferradina why , he loves Portugal ❓Chavez is so low it's not a step up but down a reflection of Nwakali poor level ability. After 8 years in Europe playing for Chavez that's not progress.

Two games? Are you for real?

Based on your logic I guess it's safe to say Akor Adams is one of the best strikers in the world since in two games he has scored more goals than Haaland.

Meliforme:
A run of two games is enough to discern a good passer of the ball.

The Portuguese league is a fine league.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by chrisooblog: 3:19pm On Aug 23, 2023
Kumuyi has never shown partisan to any party.

His comments on Tinubu are the usual comments of best wishes and prayers he gives to any one that happens to be in power. Even during them military days he never came out publicly to castigate any head of state. You're within your rights to not like his stance but it's not today he has expressed himself like that.

As for Oyepedo he hasn't hidden the fact that he's partisan so if political rivals of another party decide to go against him for not supporting or criticizing them it's logical and expected.

DissTroy:
If the support for Kumuyi isn't partisan, explain why the same people criticize Oyedepo for voting against Tinubu's party/preferred?

Doubt me? Local-search "Oyedepo" here on Nairaland then filter the search to the Eurosoccer section.

Keep scrolling through the search results. Notice how it's mostly the same people giving Kumuyi an easy pass for pro-Tinubu comments lambasting Oyedepo for his comments on national politics?

Yeah.

Do you have extensive evidence like a sequence of games over a season to back up this interesting claim?

Also take note of the level of opposition he's facing.

Meliforme:
How many midfielders can deliver two accurate crosses per game

Having a midfielder that has that level of precision in crosses of the ball is very massive and commendable. This should open up a probe into the talents of the man, Kelechi Nwakali.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 12:18pm On Aug 23, 2023
Using level of wages strictly as a metric of a player's ability is a measurement that will let you down from time to time.

There are tons of players who earn ridiculously high wages we know they nowhere deserve but hey it is what it is.

Speaking strictly about Nwakali the move to Portugal is obviously in the right step. The Portuguese league is rated sixth I think in Europe which is definitely a step up from the Spanish second divisions.

Nwakali will face stiffer competition and better opposition in Portugal hopefully for himself and his fans he will come good.

Before you decide to regurgitate the money argument I hope you know that nearly 75% of clubs in Germany, Spain, Italy and France can't match the spending power of even the bottom 10 EPL clubs yet the football they play is way superior.

komekn:
If you look beyond the superficial, then you my ay see it's not necessarily a step up.

The Portuguese league has a huge gulf between the top 6/7 clubs and the bottom 4/5 clubs. The bottom clubs without prejudice will struggle in English League two. Again without Prejudice Enyimba will flog and leave in the dust Chavez FC.

Is it better to be in Southampton in the Championship average income £34k a week or the Portuguese Premier league with Chavez FC average weekly income £1.5k .

Where do your think if you perform you are most likely to get better recognition and valued appreciation ❓

We can't deny that batter players cost money and if your average weekly salary is £1.5k you are surrounded by carpenters and poor quality players. You are not going to get noticed.

Have a think about it , consider the income average of Ponferradina and that of Chavez FC. Shockingly Ponferradina is actually higher. It looks like a move from one level of mediocrity to another. Nothing to be commended here IMO.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 11:58am On Aug 23, 2023
Nwakali is a talent that is universally agreed on this thread but he needs to fulfill that potential before hyping him to high heavens.

Akor Adams has scored in two games now for his club in France does that now mean he's world class? Of course not! At best he's a prospect who will get better at worst he's going through a purple patch.

I'm happy for Kelechi that he's getting game time in a decent European league but he will have to do a lot more to convince me he's the missing piece in the midfield of the SE.

Truth be told if we had two or three half decent CMs playing in various top five European clubs Nwakali's name wouldn't frequently come up in conversations here.

Meliforme:
Which is more sincere?
A. Presenting his Laliga 2 stats
B. Presenting his stats at a higher and more competitive league.

You said: 2 games is nothing concrete if you are talking consistency
I want you to know that doing something more than once is enough evidence to deduce a pattern, a pattern that ensures continuity.
Delivering two accurate crosses per game for two games is enough to establish the knowledge that Kelechi Nwakali can deliver crosses of the ball.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 3:08pm On Aug 22, 2023
That's the thing you make it sound as if people are beefing a player who has been doing averagely well for a couple of years while the reality is he hasn't exactly been anywhere noticeable to attract 'hatred'

TheGoodJoe:

There is literally a campaign against Kelechi Nwakali here and it has nothing to do with his performance. Most who criticize are actually people that have watched nothing about him. It is not issue based but just pure negativity.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:11pm On Aug 22, 2023
Chief but seriously where's this hate you speak off? Most posters that criticize Nwakali always give fair assessments of his performances.

Plus why would anyone hate a player who can improve the SE if he's doing well?

TheGoodJoe:

There is no hype. It is just that Kelechi Nwakali is hated so much by some that many hate seeing anything good said about him. That is all.

What area of the game is Osimhen better than Orban? Let’s forget that Osimhen is PROVEN for a moment. I’m starting this conversation to explore what is possibly lacking in Orban’s game and vice versa — not to talk down on any player. What will Orban potentially add to our CF position?

As bad as the sanctions are it seems to be working rumours of a mutiny in Niger over unpaid salaries

https://twitter.com/ZagazOlaMakama/status/1692913402815881419?s=20

TookDownYourMum:
These Francophone countries were already politically unstable to begin with and going to war with Niger will just destabilize the entire region and create a massive refugee crisis which the Jihadists will take advantage of. The sanctions placed on Niger has already been seeing effects on ground. Food inflation has skyrocketed. The Chinese have stopped working on the Niger Dam. Elecricity has been cut off from Niger with constant blackouts for most of the day. 90% of Niger's budget that came from International foreign aid has been cut off. The World Bank and IMF has stopped all development loans in Niger and the state is virtually bankrupt isolated from the financial system. France can increase their uriarium from Canada, Australia, and Kazakhstan decreasing Niger share in the world market. They won't survive under sanctions for 6 months since Niger (land-locked nation) is a highly dependant country on foreign aid. Rebels in the country are beginning to get impatient with the Junta over the sanctions placed on their country from ECOWAS and US and its allies EU nations, Japan, and S.Korea that hold most of the world's share of nominal GDP.

The Mali Junta can make big threats but in reality they can't afford to aid another country in a war considering 40% of Mali is already under terrorist and separatist control nor do they have the budget, manpower, or logistics to do so. So, their threats are all hot air.

If Mali goes back on their word in 2025 and postpones it again, ECOWAS can just easily place the sanctions back onto their country. Since they kicked out UN that was providing Northern Mali civilians with food, medicine, and water that would set a bad precedent for the country likely a civil war.

For someone who was heavily involved in setting up two tech companies that went unicorn it's a bit of an exaggeration to label him a religious fanatic.
