Your SEVIS number is linked to your nationality. When you input your SEVIS number at the site, you are automatically recognized as a Nigerian, irrespective of your geographic location. You can experiment.

Now he deferred his enrollment and was subsequently issued a new I-20 for Spring. At this point we are right to assume his school was aware of this and must've sent him a mail confirming his deferral. Now this is very easy and simple - he should get the deferral letter, the former I-20 and present one bearing the new start date and a doctor's. report (optional in case he wants to say he was unable to travel initially on health grounds if being questioned). Basically with these attachments, he should be able to travel to the US hassle free. THEREFORE IN MY OPINION, THE BORDERLINE IS - NO, HE WOULDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM AT THE PORT OF ENTRY.

@ bato231, is it all applicants here that were granted visas - past and present, that their parents owe a company? Does having company documents guarantee any success in the interview? What about those whose parents/sponsor are lawyers, importers, pastors, civil servants, professors, accountants etc. what do they have to show? Will not having documentary proof result to a denial? Visit the Department of State website and go through the basic things you need. This one your talking about falls secondary but doesn't imply you shouldn't have it and in the event you don't have, what can you do - you may simply claim one of these professions I indicated above, it musn't always be an engineer or something so chill man that you worry yourself alot. God is control.

@DASLEEKY, There is nothing that is easy in this world, everything is about trial. Because you didn’t try doesn’t mean it’s not possible. The thing works mostly for UG and not Master degree. deevick246, IN MY OPINION the answer is No. Remember at the Port of Entry, you'll have your I-20 endorsed by an immigration officer and information of your arrival will be fed electronically into the SEVIS system to the school on whose I-20 you were authorised to study. Now when you have entered the country, your given a specific time to report to your school and during this period you don't show up at the school, the school's appropriate authority (DSO officer) may have to inform the DHS of your absence. When that is done you maybe placed out of status or have your visa revoked. So to be on a safe side, the best thing to do is attend the institution for a semester, thereafter you can transfer to your choice school without having to face any problem. Hope this sheds some light!
