Jobs/Vacancies › Re: 4 Shocking Facts About Lying On Your CV Every Job Seeker Should Know by chyna4luv: 8:49am On Jan 27, 2018 |
PatrickOkunima: Hi all, it's your HR guy, and I am about to give you insider tips on the shocking facts about exaggerating on your CV. I would also remind you that I have interviewed thousands of candidates, so I speak from experience.
In a bid to land lucrative job roles, job seekers perform a whole lot of wonders on their resumes. In a bid to get lucrative job roles, most of them tend to exaggerate. But should you really risk telling a lie on your CV?
While it may seem just harmless making a “little adjustments” to your resume accomplishments, it can have lots of consequences on you, but what are the facts you don’t know about exaggerating on your CV?
See some of the facts about lying on CV below:
It is your shortest cut to getting yourself an interview
Most times when we advertise a vacancy for a job position, I always pray within me to see the right set of candidates without stress. In the pool of unqualified candidates, you see someone who’s CV is like a gold hidden among stones. Most times I leap for joy at such moment. I know he might be exaggerating, but how would I know?
“Only via an interview” – one thing most candidates always pray for.
Whatever happens during or after the interview is now a question of his ability to show what he can offer. But one thing has happened; the candidate has gotten a chance for an interview.
Expectations during interviews are heightened
I wouldn’t be so happy to come across your resume and don’t expect much from you. I once advertised the position of an IT Support officer. I saw the resume of a guy who claimed he had all the certifications present in the world. I was surprised when the technical team asked him some practical questions, he went on rambling.
I was ashamed, not for him but for myself that called him for an interview. I will still tell you how to create a CV that wouldn’t get you into this kind of position.
Gives you room to negotiate a higher salary
You should know that most firms can go a little bit above their salary scale just to attract a “bright” talent. It would be so unwise just to neglect someone who has lots of accomplishments on his resume because of a salary difference of 10k.
As long as your accomplishments are mind-blowing – whether true or false, you stand a chance to claim a high salary package.
But you should know that salary discussion comes only after you have been tested on all fronts, and have been certified qualified. I don’t know how you are going to do it, but trust me that great accomplishments attract great salary remunerations.
Job expectations heighten
A guy passed all the stages of our interview during a certain recruitment season, and we even went above our salary scale to hire him. We were so confident that we’ve found the right guy to replace another expert that left us and moved to a competitor.
I guess it was because we didn’t have qualified hands to access the guy when he was being interviewed. He excelled and answered some general questions we threw at him. He wowed the junior staff in the same department, and everyone liked him already at the interview hall. I felt so proud fishing out such talent, to the extent I got some recommendations from the MD on my ability to hunt talents.
It was exactly two months after he was hired that he was fired. He made a mess of his unit; he couldn’t perform basic functions that a network Engineer should do, junior colleagues complained about him not being able to do his job. I was shocked as to what happened.
I later got to discover that he was quite able to perform those basic functions, but it was too basic to earn such an amount in salaries. Much was given to him, and much more was expected. Unfortunately, he was gone already.
I understand that I only gave negative examples of those who failed after exaggerating on their resumes. I would also want you to understand that there are those who have succeeded in such exaggeration and have learnt even on the job.
I would leave you with these 3 key points.
1. Exaggerate reasonably
2. Write things you have basic knowledge of and can defend
3. Don’t get intimidated when questions start coming left, right, and center during interviews. Human Resource managers also work based on
perception. “He might be tensed” might be the phrase that would save you and get you a job.
Till we meet again, happy job hunting to all job seekers and God would give you all your desired jobs.
Source: https://patrickokunima.com/2018/01/27/4-shocking-facts-about-lying-on-your-cv-every-job-seeker-should-know/ Why must one lie or exaggerate on their CVs to get a job? I will not advise any job applicant to lie because, it may deprive the candidate other opportunities if caught. How? If it is a firm or organization that is mindful of their reputation and core values, they may go extra mile dragging the culprit to court to pay for reputational damages, may affect the school graduated from, even publicize the name on tabloids. I am not an HR practitioner though, if I have a company that took me years to build and because of one candidate's lie, then the reputation and trust my customers had for my brand now broke, then, I shall take a legal action on that. Let's have a second thought before we lie to get a job. Regards, Chyna. |

FunnyDude: Sir, Nobody is trying to downplay first class here and neither I'm I frustrated too. But check around you today, how many first class made it outside their certificate. Where are those brilliant bookworm in your set in school today? Probably nowhere to be found because they have been bought off with salary. My lesson is that drop your certificate ego and hussle hard. It is psychological First class certificate mostly is the reason why most first graduate are lazy to create a value on their own. Rather they keep waiting for someone to get them hired based on their A4 paper in their file called certificate. They have lazy mentality, that's why I'm thanking God for not giving me while in school. You didn't know me in person that's why, sir. I'm delighted to inform you that I'm a bookworm while in school. But is a long story. Hello my man, let's be factual, if you had made a 2.1 or 1.1, you wouldn't have given this advice today. I would also like to correct your wrong impression towards these gurus. You said 2.1 and 1.1 graduates are lazy. Those guys are not lazy o. They are good. There are some tactics and methods they used which you never used, hence the reason for your 2.2. For example, what is biology? You answered this question and scored 5marks. But 2.1 and 1.1 students will answer same question and score 10marks. During my HND, two guys came out with distinctions in my department. Do you know what these guys do? They study ahead of our lecturer(as in, these guys have appetite for studying), there is a method they use in answering their questions in exam or quiz, the way they do their things is different from other students. Those two guys were competing. Fortunately, both of them made distinctions(3.62/4.00 and 3.51/4.00). I was able to associate with one of them, who revealed the secrets he used to me. I used the same secret for my BSc and it worked for me. These two guys are doing well now. One is working with a shipping firm as a supervisor, with fat pay, married with a kid. The other girl is working in a bank as a full staff. Also, note that with the state of the Nigerian labour market today, if you mistakenly graduate with 2.2 or third class, you will find it very difficult to get a good job except by God's grace with hard work. There are some 2.2 graduates in my office who are doing exceedingly well. Some are doing their masters degree now. You too can do likewise. Just work hard and pray. So, don't downcast graduates with good grades indirectly because, those guys are too good. Jah bless. Chyna. |

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: HND /BSC Dichotomy ... by chyna4luv: 10:30am On Nov 22, 2017 |
lokoventurex1: Well, I'm hearing this for the first time. If it turned out to be true, then it's a welcome development.
We HND graduates have suffered too much from employers. I was going to write about my experience with a recruiting firm that almost dealt with me. It's high time we started to protest, maybe in Lagos first that they should stop using HND as contract staff.
I understand our employers in Nigeria uses the BSC holders too as contract staff, but on rare cases. If they will continue to use HND graduates as a back up staff to the Bsc holders, then they should scrap Polytechnic.
This is the greatest challenge I've. Many a graduate trainee test i couldn't write because they would always say minimum should be 2.1(BSC). If you tend to upgrade and get a bsc part time programme, employers will say they don't want bsc programme that ran on part time. Diamond Bank does this a lot.
Does that mean people that went to Polytechnic are second class citizens? People are too quite on this issue.
Constructive criticism abeg. Hello my man, I understand your plight but the truth remains that, the dichotomy between HND and BSc holders will never end because this has been in existence for decades. I have both qualification. I suffered humiliation from my BSc colleagues in the office two years backward simply because I had HND. HND guys were contract staff even if you have spent years with the firm there is no conversation for you while BSc are used as our managers, supervisors and full staff. I and my HND colleagues cried, protest, we even wrote to the management but nothing was done. The management said that it is the firm's policy that HND can only be a junior/contract staff while BSc is for senior staff. This discrimination and segregation was so much in my office that I can see it openly, "if you don't like it, go and die". Funny enough, we the forbidden(HNDs) are the ones doing all the work in the office while BSc guys are just lounging, when I couldn't bear the shame anymore, I just took a bold step last year January and enroll for BSc. So I have got my BSc with strong 2.1. If I had used the study method I adopted during my HND, I would have made distinctions. What they do in the University is lecturing, while in Polytechnic is teaching(break it into pieces so that you will know it). I will not mention the name of the school I obtained the BSc. There is this course I did in my HND1 first semester, it was a calculative course, I was surprised when they introduced it in my BSc finals. Guess what? The lecturer could not break it down properly students were complaining about his course. I used my HND1 handout to prepare myself for his exam and I made an A. Furthermore, in the federal government job if you are an HND holder, the highest level you can attain is level 14 except you have a BSc certificate. How did I know? During my BSc, I came in contact with some guys in my department who was also running the BSc but with HND. Those guys works in the federal government and they told me that the dichotomy is also affecting them. I saw Matured men and women running the conversion programme with me because of the discrimination between both qualification. My advice is, please try to go for the conversation programme. I know it won't be easy but it will safe you from this dichotomy syndrome. There are some schools that will admit you into 300level if your HND is upper credit. I rest my case. Jah bless. Chyna. |

ReinaFarine: Hi honey, I just want to understand your perspective on the issue...
Responsible men see women that take make the first move as loose
Please I don't see how this makes them responsible.... A mature woman knows what she wants... As long she conveys the message in a decent and sensible manner without the vulgarity of inappropriate touches, pictures and words... She can pass along the I am interested in you message by suggesting they hang out, but the mature woman should be able to accept rejection without it causing insecurities and drama. What makes only the man have the right to be the instigator?
A woman should be able to express her romantic interest in a man without her being seen as cheap. And her stated interest shouldn't be taken as sexual consent....
2. If a man is not interested in her, according her the same respects he expects dictates he should inform her in a matured manner of his lack of interest and not trivialize her feelings, make her a laughingstock, or lead her on and make it into a kind of game.. Be matured and tell her the kind of relationship you have with her in a respectful and decent manner.... Ladies, if you're ballsy enough to ask him out, be matured enough to handle rejection without being dramatic.... 3. If all you want is sex, please state it very clearly in a way that will not be misinterpreted or cause hope and fantasy in the ladies mind...
If two matured adult decide to have an exclusively sex only relationship... Then slutshaming words like fuckboy, olosho, gigolo and hoe... Shouldn't be used in reference to them. They're grownups and they understand what works for them at that moment... You have no right to judge except their action is hurting someone..
Thanks.. Thanks ma, that's my point The guy is afraid whether the girl is doing this for normal game(sex play and go) or is she doing this for marital purpose. He is afraid to be hurt by any girl. Also, for the babe to make first move, is it normal? Please advice more. Jah bless. |

Good afternoon pals.
Please, when a girl is showing you either directly or indirectly that she loves you, what will one do?
Because this is presently happening to my friend(guy)for the past five months now, the girl always showing signals to him. In fact, the girl does it openly now(at times we mock the guy o, that see babe wey dey show you love and you dey dull yourself. Lol).
There was a day the babe even hugged, pecked him and said you are a good guy in our presence but the guy dey behave like mumu and dulls himself too much. The girl can not do without calling the guy's name like mad.
So, now the guy is confused, whether the girl is just trying to get something from him and run or, is that a true love? Or is the girl a play girl?
The guy don't have money, I would have said, she is eyeing his money.
Please o, the guy needs good advice. Jah bless you.
