Nduway:
Graduated from the department of chemical engineering three years ago with a second class lower and up till now it's been difficult securing does juicy appointment all because a system in place has discriminated and down played the relevance of result lower than 2.1. My people how can we put an end to this menace in Nigeria. Your honest opinion!
Everybody have one deficiency or the other, ranging from HND/Bsc dichotomy, plight of 2.2 in Nigeria etc.

The simple truth is that nothing can be done to curb this. Maybe you don't know that there are lots 1.1 and 2.1 graduates still searching for job or it might interest you to know that my own plight is HND/Bsc dichotomy, it really affecting me so much in my place of work even a just recruited Bsc becomes Head and team leads but I have a plan and focus.

So, have a plan too. I believe for you to say juice offer it means you currently have something doing. Hold onto it while searching for a better job.

Phedam:
No insult pls.. Can a man settle down with 50k Monthly salary. ?
Bro, it's not easy to settle down o. Please consider below:

i. Is the job a permanent one?
ii. Is your spouse employed too?
iii. Are you living in a less populated state e.g. Kogi, Kwara etc where cost of living is moderate if not low?

If your answers to these questions is yes, then you can settle down with #50k/month.

I base in Lagos and even earn more than you but can't settle because cost of living here is extremely high.

In all, pray before you take this decision.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Hnd/bsc Dichotomy Removed. by chyna4luv:
Naturallyme:
Then HND curriculum should be reviewed or they adopt that of university. But honestly engineering is not engineering technology
Reviewing curriculum or adopting that of university is not the solution here. The dichotomy should be removed, because HND go for NYSC with Bsc. so why the embargo? common sense!

What is engineering technology again? engineering whether you obtain the certificate from university or Polytechnic is same. Most engineering firms prefers hiring HND engineering graduates to BSc because in poly, it more of practical.

This also applicable to NCE graduates, they are easily sourced for teaching jobs than university because basically is on pure teaching practice.

For me to obtain my HND in Banking and Finance, I spent four years plus one year thorough industrial training in a financial institution while Bsc is just four years and yet there is dichotomy. Even the Bscs and HNDs, how many of them are gainfully employed?

God help us.

KennyAyodeji:
HND/BSc Dichotomy Removed.

At last, it is with excitement, capital joy amidst jubilation and celebration of over 20 years struggle of Nigerian Polytechnic students and graduates including the staff unions and heads of Polytechnic in Nigeria.

I am pleased to announce to the public that the COUNCIL OF ESTABLISHMENT which comprises of all the head of service of the 36 States of the Federation and the head of service of the Federation approved the removal of this long overdue dichotomy which hinder the career progression of HND holders in civil service in her meeting held in Minna Niger state capital during the week after an exhaustive deliberation, pro and anti deposition which ended with tie vote of 16 against 16 while the head of service of the Federation voted in support as presiding officer after the tie, to earn the Polytechnic sector the victory.

Making the vote 17 pro against 16 anti. Henceforth, This resolution automatically lift embargo on HND holder career progression in civil service as the holder can now rise beyond Deputy Director in civil service as well enjoy all sort of benefits/promotion to the topmost rank due to BSc holders in civil service.

It is on record that this same Council was the sole obstacle for this struggle since year 2005 when President Olusegun Obasanjo pronounced the removal of this dichotomy, the Council called the then president statement a mere pronouncement with out documentation and refused it adoption nor implementation.

It will be recalled that the last meeting of the council which was held at Ilorin kwara state capital witness heavy presence of Nigeria Polytechnic students which I personally led as the National Senate President of NAPS to the council in protest for the need for the council to reconsider her position on the said matter.

A position paper was submitted after the protest as demanded by the then head of service of Federation who was the chairman of the Council, unfortunately, the matter was completely discussed nor concluded at Ilorin until now in her next meeting in Niger state.

The Council often meets every 3 years, On behalf of the entire West Africa Polytechnic students and most especially the Nigeria Polytechnic students, I express sincere gratitude to the head of service of states and that of the Federation who stood for us and with us, the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Board for Technical Education NTBE, Council of Head of Polytechnic and Colleges of Technology COHEADS, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic ASUP, past and present leadership of National Association Of Polytechnic Students NAPS and by extension the Nigerians Union of journalist for their support all through the struggle.

We look forward for immediate implementation by all state of the Federation, Federal government agencies and departments while I call on all Polytechnic student to join us as we Commence appreciation/celebration.

Aluta continua, Victoria Ascerta,
No retreat no surrender,
As long as we live, struggle continues.

Amb S A Lukman #AIG
Immediate past Senate President NAPS, Outgoing Regional President WAPSU
Well, this is cool. I pray it works, because this has been on ground before I gained admission to Poly. But it can't affect banking industry now or will it?

HNDs have suffered discrimination so much from their peers and offices, more importantly, Banking industry. I hope one day banking work will be a forgotten thing in my life.

Meanwhile, op please what is your source?

Do you know that communication is not about how fluent or your ability to use vocabulary BUT ''Your ability to pass or relay message to people and feedback is gotten from your audience.

So, Mr Lastmumu, your write ups on nairaland portrays arrogance and pride. I usually check your comments. It might also interest you to know that, in this thread, you have not communicated as far as I am concerned.

I was born in Port Harcourt, I Schooled in Port Harcourt, All my Family are in Port Harcourt, I worked in Port Harcourt. But am tired, I love Lagos and want to relocate. I don't have relatives nor Friends there but I felt I will make it in Lagos. Should I Relocate?
So what you are saying in essence is that, everybody staying in Lagos are millionaires and billionaires right?

Oga, you better remain in PH at least your family members are there. Lagos is tough I mean TOUGH. It's for people with large heart. You don't need to travel from your state to another or out of the country before you can make it in life. All you need to make it is within you. Even me wey dey hia dey find as I go relocate to Kogi or kwara because that place is less expensive and cool. I served there i.e Kogi and you can start a cool business there without anybody harassing you. Electricity is 100%.

Please find the reasons below why you should remain with your family in PH:

i, So many graduates in Lagos are unemployed,
ii, You can't do private business here in Lagos without hiring an office otherwise kick against indiscipline(KAI) will arrest and drag you to court,
iii, Cost of living is too high here not to talk of hiring an office,
iv, Electricity is zero and
v, Traffic jam everywhere in Lagos.

KAI people work from 7am to 10pm daily to ensure no selling outside your shop, no crossing expressway without taking the pedestrian bridge etc.

Think about it and thank me later.

I applied for the position of an hr analyst some weeks ago. I got an interview invitation but I don't know what to xpect. Although I am familiar with roles and job descriptions of HR officers, but I don't really know much about HR analysts. Anybody knows? Please educate me,throw more light and wish me success. Thank you.
Congratulations on your invite.

Regarding your question, note that both have the same role. However, the job title is what differs.

So, fear not! The role for HR officer you already known also flies for HR Analyst.

Hope this helps.

Cityofdavid:
You get the job and shout for joy, you tell your family and friends and they all carry out Thanksgiving on your behalf, you go to church and declare your testimony. Church members dance for you, the Pastor prays for you, everyone is happy for you.

Two weeks later you realise you've just walked into hell, not the hell burning with fire as prophesied in the bible, not the hell burning with brimstone either, but a hell that's cold with air conditioner. You've just walked into the air conditioned hell.

What or where is this air conditioned hell? It is always domiciled in a building, usually called an office. The chains are your computers, the sin that brought you there is the employment offer you accepted, the whip are sanctions thrown at you by bosses who don't care if you're thirsty or have to ease yourself, the demons are the bosses themselves who talk to you like you're a piece of shit, the devil is perhaps the high rate of unemployment in the country which pushed you into accepting such an offer without informing you that you were walking right into hell.

You want to leave, but you're scared that even if you leave you won't make heaven (a better offer). So you remain there, you remain as a slave, working like a prisoner, the reward you get is just enough to take care of you. Your reward is usually not above 70,000. You remain there crying and dying secretly, time flies by, and the 70k is no longer enough for you, but you remain in that hell, for fear of the unknown, you're in hell, you know you're a slave, but you still remain there hoping for a miracle, unfortunately for you, you can't even go for other interviews, so you remain in that hell and burn away or should I say, freeze away.

We have so many of such hell in Nigeria. Contract jobs in the bank are perfect examples, another perfect example is a call centre located in Ilupeju and owned by a bank. Shame the devil today, list other air conditioned hell you know.

Being top of your class does not necessarily guarantee that you will be at the top of life.
You could graduate as the best student in Finance but it doesn’t mean you will make more money than everybody else.
The best graduating Law student does not necessarily become the best lawyer.
The fact is life requires more than the ability to understand a concept, memorize it and reproduce it in an exam.
School rewards people for their memory. Life rewards people for their imagination.
School rewards caution, life rewards daring.
School hails those who live by the rules. Life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones. So do I mean people shouldn’t study hard in school? Oh, no, you should. But don’t sacrifice every other thing on the altar of First Class. Don’t limit yourself to the classroom. Do something practical.

Take a leadership position.

Start a business and fail. That’s a better Entrepreneurship 101.

I love your comment!

This reminds me of 2007 when we finished our ND and planning to go for IT, there was a guy in my department then, this guy was an un-serious type in academics. He doesn't study. He flirts with girls inside/outside the campus, attends parties, night clubs, had enough money to flirt, lived in one of the best lodges in school. He was one of the happening guys in school. The guy had two courses carry over in our ND2 first semester.

What shock me was, as we finished our ND2 final semester exams, one week after, my guy came to school for HOD to sign his offer letter with Intercontinental Bank PLC to resume work tomorrow. How did I know about this? I was their class rep. I asked him, how he got placement with the bank? He said his brother is a shareholder in Intercontinental Bank. I believed him because, when I returned to lagos State, I went to intercontinental bank head office in V.I. to try my luck for IT in 2007, to my greatest dismay, the most vital requirement to secure an IT placement with Intercontinental Bank was to have a TOP EXECUTIVE of the bank refer you by appending his or her signature on your guarantors form. 'na so I no get the job o and I get upper credit o' I sure sey d guy no go get up to lower credit self. I finally got IT placement with AIICO Insurance PLC where I suffered without salary for one year before going for my HND.

Atimes, most of these un-serious guys in school have BIG connection. All they want is to get their 'kpali'(certificates).

Though, it's good to have excellent grade but it's not a yardstick to get a job. I chat with my course mate who had distinction HND BFN, she is still jobless up to this moment since 2012 after NYSC. Though, she is married now.

Also, prayer can do all things.

I rest my case joor.

Hello, putting trousers as a lady for job interview may be right and may be wrong if you come across depper life HRs.

My advise is, put on skirt to avoid being disqualified. Though, HR will just tell you "they will get back at you" and will not tell you that you were disqualified for putting on trousers as a lady.

Moreover, let your conscience judge you. If not that this world is full of iniquity, girls is not suppose to put on boys' garment.

I hope this helps.

However, don't allow this to overshadow you once you resume work otherwise, it will affect your KPI thereby making you not to LAST in the job. I am not wishing you bad luck but talking from experience.

After my service year, I stayed 2 and half years doing business before getting the job am currently in now. We were 12 they employed. one resigned the next day with silly excuse. one resigned again after receipt of one month salary. Three were exited because their work were not impressive enough.

In a nut shell, we are Three in my set remaining and I am two years now with the bank. In fact, what I have learnt in the bank can land me a bigger offer in future. Though it's a contract but the pay is between 78K to 90K. The contract is renewable after a year based on your KPI. I have bagged two professional certification.

The 9 colleagues LOST their job to FEAR!

Though, it's very normal to be afraid when you are taking up a new challenge and after one month, the fear MUST leave you, that happened to me too.

However, if after one month you are still afraid or jittery, then I will advise you quietly resign it's better than being noticed and exited, because one month is enough to get used with your new work environment and colleagues unless if you are the type that does not socialise with people.

Once again, I wish you good luck just like as I wish myself.

Best regards.

Yes. It's pasted on the Hotel Gate. The Hotel is new and started operation last year.

From Pen Cinema, board a bus to Ikeja, alight at Alhaja 1 B/Stop and ask for the Hotel name stated above.

Hope this helps?
