KnowAll: There is sand formation at the Western part of the Local Government extending from the Lekki peninsula in Lagos State to Araromi Sea-side and Zion Lepe, Agba to Etugbo and Ipare all, Mahin and Ugbonla the Eastern part of the Local Government Area can boast of the largest coconut plantation in West Africa. Ilaje Local Government is the largest local Government in Ondo State in terms of its landmass. According to the 1991 National Population Census, the Local Government is one of the most populated in Ondo State, with a population figure of two hundred and twenty seven thousand and thirty four (277,034. it has a shoreline covering about 180km thereby making Ondo State, a state with the longest coastline in Nigeria, Crude oil, which is the mainstay of the Nigerian economy.
Traditionally, it is grouped into 8 kingdoms namely: Mahin land under His Royal Majesty, Amapetu of Mahin, Ugboland which is under His Roayl Majesty Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom. Aheri land under the Maporure and Etikan land under the Onikan of Etikan, Odonla land under the Alagho of Odonla, Obenla land under the Olubo of Obenla, Obe Ogbaro land under the Odoka of Obe Ogbaro, Igbokoda under the Olu of Iggbokoda and Igboegunrin under the Odede of Igboegunrin.
@ chyz
Lekki peninsula in Lagos State to Araromi Sea-side - does Araromi sound like an Ijaw name to you, Ijaw's in Ondo State are visitors and are not natives. Yorubas are the majority in Ilaje.
Yoruba Kings
Olu of Iggbokoda - capital of LG and largest town - Yoruba
Ugboland which is under His Roayl Majesty Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom. - Yoruba
Etikan land under the Onikan of Etikan - Yoruba
Odonla land under the Alagho of Odonla- Yoruba
Obenla land under the Olubo of Obenla- Yoruba
Igboegunrin under the Odede of Igboegunrin - Yoruba
I am not sure of the following:
Amapetu of Mahin - Not sure if they are Yorubas or ijo
Aheri land under the Maporure - not sure if they are yorubas or ijo
You can see out of 7 kings in Ilaje about 5 are Yorubas where u get the idea the area is ijaw is a mystery Shut your mouth you damn deceiver, you said COASTAL AREA OF ONDO STATE, which is Ijaw land. |

KnowAll: ILAJE LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ONDO STATE NIGERIA Sunday, 11 July 2010 09:06 Coastal NEWS
The New Odua City should be around the coastal area of Ondo State. Ondo State is only about 30 km from Lekki in Lagos State.
TOURISM
Ilaje Local Government is a National tourist attraction with a shore line of about 180km in Nigeria, the coastline of the Local Government, coupled with the green grass and shrubs and Atlantic Ocean, presents it beautiful sight and weather conducive for leisure, such beautiful sight and cool wind coupled favourably with what operates in Jamaica and other places in the Caribbean where people troupe to for rest and leisure.
This can be better developed for leisure and economic purposes, Civilization started around the waters. Therefore, numerous developments in water transportation and house construction on partially or completely flooded areas are also veritable tourist attraction. Lekki Peninsula in Lagos State to Ilaje Local Government along the Atlantic Coast is about 30kilometres when proposes coastal road from Lagos is completed. On road, Igbokoda to Lagos is less than three hours drive through part of Benin. Shagamu and later Lagos Ibadan expressways. It is possible to supervise business in Igbokoda while resident in Lagos.
Casual visit to the main beach of the Local Government Headquarters (Igbokoda) reveals an imposing sculpture of a fisherman which renders a first caller agog. Also present at the main beach are hundreds of beautiful decorated ferry boats as though preparing for a boat race frusta, yet are essentially, to and from the Riverine arrears daily. Coastal area who?!!!!! That is Ijaw land, always has been and always will be. Take your Oduwa nonsense somewhere else. |

Ibime: Who told you all the Governors were military?
Melford Okilo and Rufus Ada George were civilian, and the 1992 election between Ada George and Eric Aso was split down ethnic lines, with uplanders voting for Aso and riverines voting for Ada George.
You are right that creation of Bayelsa changed the dynamic, however Ikwerre cannot wield power in Rivers State without first cornering the whole Igboid vote.
Ikwerre is less than Kalabari in population. Don't let their presence in PH deceive you. Kalabari have as many people in PH as they do back home. My bad but it was only two before 1999 but still my theory of Ijaw dominance before the creation of bayelsa in 1996 still stands. Both Melford Okilo and Rufus Ada are George are Ijaw. Kalabari as many in PH as Ikwerre o I doubt that, not from what i've seen and remember it's their land. |
Politics › Re: 80% Of River State is Igbo people, who and why did they cancel Mid West zone by chyz(m): 3:25pm On Nov 17, 2010 |
Ibime: @ Abagworo:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivers_State
Emohua is 200,000 Obio Akpor is 464,000 Ikwerre is 190,000 PH (including Okrika) is 540,000
If 90% of Emohua and Ikwerre are Ikwerre citizens, then Ikwerre would have about 360,000. (BTW, 90% is waaay too optimistic)
If 40% of Obio Akpor is Ikwerre, then population is circa 200,000.
Not more than 20% of PH is Ikwerre since PH LGA includes Okrika land, and most of Ikwerre land is inhabited by foreigners, so we have circa 140,000.
Altogether, we talking sum total of 800,000 at the most optimistic.
Out of total of 6.7m in Rivers State, we can see why Ikwerre failed to win Governorship in Rivers State till Amaechi.
Now Kalabari has about 600,000 people in Kalabari land. (of which at least 500,000 are Kalabari)
You can also include similar amount of Kalabari living in PH.
Hence I do not think Ikwerre have more population than Kalabari. Up until 1996 Rivers State was Ijaw dominated but them Bayelsa was created. From then on it became Igbo dominated. That plays a big factor in why Amaechi is governor of Rivers now through Peter Odili. However, the reason why he couldn't get governorship before 2007 is not because he is 'Ikwerre" and the "size" is not great enough, it is because all governors up until 1999 were installed through military rule. |

DapoBear: Just because the US and UN would not support the north doesn't mean they wouldn't seek to control Delta and Rivers themselves. And if Biafra doesn't get Rivers at least, it doesn't really sound like a very interesting nation to live in. Landlocked, overpopulated, not enough farmland, no oil wealth. Not the brightest future, imo So be it. Nothing you or i can do to stop Biafra from actualizing. Those who are wanting to join will do so its already in litigation with the international court as we speak. It's a done deal. |

excoba101: What do you think of this? I'm totally against the recolonization of any African territory. Africom is a bad occurrence. Look at places like saudi arabia and kuwait and various other countries where the US has set up permanent military bases, its terrible. We Africans have gone through so much that we deserve to have freedom more that anybody else on this planet or just as much.If africans would be loving and act like brothers instead of enemies then Africom would not be a matter. However, its like if thats what it takes to separate from nigeria then so be it. We and manipulate our way out of the africom system as the word is changing. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria And Biafra Rep. (why Is Nigeria Not Letting Go?) by chyz(m): 8:16am On Nov 17, 2010 |
excoba101: Biafra might be a cause for alarm and invites in UN/US army just the way Islamic vs Kurd in Iraq, Israeli Jews and Palestine in Israel etc. Of course if there's one thing Africans as a whole don't respect or understand it's diplomacy. Most things are done off of childish emotions and by force. The US has already planned for the separation of nigeria. It has instituted Africom in nigeria, i.e. the oil producing areas so it isnt going to be long before their army colonizes us sets up base in the oil producing area. So when the country does go into mayhem there will not be a repeat of 1967. The US and UN will not support or supply the Islamic north with their fight against regions going their own ways. |

@chyz I am from bendel and you know the pride of the Benin people. Do you think they will let bendel (BENIN/DELTA) go with biafra or form another country of their own? Just asking. Maybe complications like this will cause Nigeria never to divide. Don't mind Bk.Babe by his words i know he doesn't hate igbo or is jealous like the other dudes. As for Bendel I'll talk about then in terms of Edo State and Delta State. In Edo there are igbos call the Igbanke clan who are apart of the Anioma Igbos in Delta state, they will go along with biafra. Now as for non-Igbos in Delta and Edo, that is up to the people of those states and the pioneers of the forming of Biafra as a country. It's not by force. Biafra will more than likely be broken up into provinces where each Nation Igbo,Ibiobio,Ijaw, and others that decide to join will be able to do their own thing. |

Personally I'm pro self-determination. People should be able to vote and decide who then want to join up with. But obviously Nigeria as a whole is not going to feel this same way. i know your position and pro self-determination, i have no problem with it, all I'm just saying like I've said before you have to watch your tongue.
