What does this post even have to do with Yoruba? OP asked a question about "why", and I offered one explanation. How does offering this explanation constitute meddling in SS and SE business?

Your comments about Biafra, Rivers, and SE definitely shows you are ignorant to the diversity and history of the two regions. Most yoruba's i know and have met are like that although I blame nigeria for that for the most part.

I used Biafra as shorthand for the 5 states of the SE region. Let me not use that term against lest it cause confusion, I'll just say SE.

Yea try not to do that next time.Try a little research i find out what tribes biafra consisted of and area. Also, if you want to refer to igbo try not to single it the the 5 states ok?

Of course, it is obvious that Nigeria (the federal gov't itself, that is) would prefer not to lose ANY territory. But some territory is more valuable and essential than others.

My problem with secessionists is that the discussion is centered on oil revenue and that for me is a short-sighted ambition. I am guessing you don't live in the SE. If you were Innoson motors owner, I would understand since his business is located in the SE.

Since the civil war, things have changed. The Igbos have spread to every nook of this country, in that time we have inter-married, created relationships and investments. Are you saying people will vote to secede for some oil that they have done without in the first place? Have you considered the psychological and social implications for families?

By the way, who told you the South South would share oil money with us? Most or every war in Africa have are rooted on tribalism, once we created a new state another minority will arise. Problem continues. On a personal note, a new state will mean new opportunity to some corrupt Igbo leaders that has failed the Igbo nation. I won't vote and I believe there are many like me out there.

First off, its not about oil money. We igbos are innovative and industrious people. We do not need to rely on oil to make a great nation or livelihood. Innoson Motors is an example of that. Another thing is Igbos are from the SS oil is there also, oil is also in the SE,but anyways thats besides the point. As far as investments in other lands, there's a thing called diplomacy and trade amongst neighboring countries. If those countries to anything to scuttle that diplomacy between the other country that that country will suffer the consequences. Reltaionships to have to die if the regions separate, do individuals not have buisness social, and family relationships in the U.S., Ghana, Togo,etc.? Aren't those separate countries from nigeria?

African nations prosper according to what each of those nations are use to. We Igbos would do better under a parliamentary system government which is almost the same as our communities have been run for hundreds of years. "Igbo enweghi Eze", Igbos have no king. President=king, not a good system for us, as tyranny was used by every nigerian president.

As far as the "Igbo leaders" it would make it that much easier to take those fool out one a new country is created and also while power is no longer centralized.

WARRI—A new militia organization, under the aegis of Niger Delta Liberation Force, NDLF, yesterday, dared the Joint Task Force, JTF, on the Niger Delta  over its plan to level down all militant camps in the Niger Delta.

The group, led by an ex-militant leader, ‘General’ John Togo declared a fresh oil war with a vow to cripple oil facilities. It also said its fighters would operate on both land and sea.


For the avoidance of doubt, the group, which has nine former leaders of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, in its fold, in a statement by its spokesman, ‘Captain’ Mark Anthony, said its activities had nothing to do with MEND, adding that it was   inaugurated to reposition the Niger Delta struggle for justice, equity and fairness.

It described the post-amnesty programme as a sham, saying the good intention of late President Umaru Yar’Adua has been hijacked by fellow Niger Deltans for selfish interests.

Its  words, “We therefore, declare that we are no longer part of the fraudulent amnesty which is full of deceit and betrayal. We have recruited and trained fresh able-bodied fighters across the Niger Delta States to execute our mission.

This time, we will operate on both land and sea and we urge all foreign diplomatic missions to call their nationals in Niger Delta multinationals to vacate the Niger Delta region immediately as we cannot guarantee their safety.

“Our fight is not about security personnel. It is primarily tagged second phase of an oil war with oil installations as our targets. Soldiers of the JTF should stay away from oil well heads and our operations as we may appear more violent than our earlier first phase of oil war.”

According to the group, “Precisely 4th October 2009 was the deadline from Federal Government for Niger Delta armed agitators to surrender arms to enable them develop the over 50 years neglected and marginalized Niger Delta oil bearing communities. We accepted Federal Government’s amnesty under duress.”

ABUJA — AS incumbent Head of Service of the Federation, HOS, Mr. Steve Oronsaye, bows out today after attaining the retirement age of 60 years. President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of a Professor of Chemistry, Oladapo Afolabi, as a successor.

The new appointee, was until his appointment, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education.

A statement by Mr. Ima Niboro, Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity) said “President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has appointed Professor Oladapo Afolabi as the new head of the Civil Service of the Federation”.

According to the statement, “Professor Afolabi takes over from Mr. Steve Oronsaye, whose tenure expires tomorrow (today)”.

The statement said, “the new head of service is a professor of applied chemistry, and was until his appointment, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education. He will be sworn in on Thursday”.

“The President thanked Oronsaye, the out-going head of service, for his stewardship, and wished him good luck in his future endeavours”.

OLADAPO Afolabi, who obtained his Ph.D in Applied Chemistry in 1981, began his public service career as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Biochemistry before transferring to the Department of Chemistry, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

He also worked at the University of Zimbabwe and Ladoke Akintola University (then Oyo State University of Technology), Ogbomoso.
He was also the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF.

He joined the defunct Federal Environmental Protection Agency, FEPA, in June 1991 and was absorbed as one the pioneer staff of the Federal Ministry of Environment in 1995. He was appointed Permanent Secretary in October 2006 and has served in the Federal Ministries of Labour and Agriculture and Water Resources.

He is a member of several professional Societies including Biochemical Society, UK, Biochemical Society, Nigeria, Nigerian Chemical Society, Science Association of Nigeria, New York Academy, Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology, Nigerian Institute of Public Analysts.

He has also served on many Board/Councils including Chairman, Board of National Social Insurance Trust Fund, Member, Board of Michael Imoudu Institute for Labour Studies- Ex-Officio, Member, Board of National Directorate of Employment – Ex-Officio, Member, Board of National Productivity Centre – ex-Officio, Member, Institute for Tropical Agriculture, Member, Nigerian Agricultural Cooperative and Rural Development Bank, NACRB, Ltd and Member, Board of Salaries and Wages Commission.

Am Igbo also (South South Igbo). But I feel Ndigbo do not want any divisions. The Igbo tend to benefit in a unified and vast Nigeria than Agbor to Calabar and from Obollo Afor to Opobo. Just my personal opinion.

I hear you but the fact that one has to be ostrasized because of ethnicity and has to work the hardest to get the least is unacceptable. It is interesting that you mention that. Northern Sudan does have the backing of the entire Arab World and China. Southern Sudan has the support of the West. This can prove an interesting show of power politics on the world stage.

Frankly, the Southern Sudanese deserve their own nation. Sudan has seen two civil wars already, between the North and the South. This does not include the conflict in the Western part of Sudan known as Darfur.

We are all pawns in a game between whites and arabs. The same thing is happening in nigeria now as we speak. The arabs are supporting the northerners while the West has been supporting southerns because of our oil. They are already bringing africom to the south that is why there was a projection by the US of nigeria slitting around 2015.
