Kwara 2011: Saraki endorses daughter, Gbemi •PDP says NO Written by Yekini Jimoh Sunday, 19 September 2010 THE godfather of politics in Kwara State, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, on Saturday endorsed Senator Gbemisola Saraki as Kwara State governorship candidate for the 2011 governorship election in the state. The epic event, which took place at the Mandate Campaign House at Olorunsogo, Ilorin, witnessed the presence of the bigwigs in Kwara politics Dr. Saraki, who said the people’s wish must be followed, noted that calls by the people that Gbemi should be the next governor made him to endorse her, adding that the incumbent governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, did not dissappoint the people of the state so Senator Gbemisola Saraki will not dissappoint them also if elected as the next governor of the state. He appealed to the people of Kwara State to give Gbemisola the maximum support so that she can win the election. Dr. Saraki noted that he was awear that the Minister of Sport, Honourable Bio Ibrahim, had bought form adding that he will get to nowhere. He promised that his love for the people of Kwara will not stop as he thanked them for staying with him over the years. Meanwhile, following the endorsement on Saturday, the PDP in Kwara State has said that the endorsement is not accepted by the party. Addressing newsmen shortly after the endorsement of Senator Saraki as the governorship candidate, the publicity secretary of the party in the state, Alhaji Isiaka Danmairomo, said the Kwara State Executive Council and prominent chieftain of the PDP were all conspicuously absent at the venue. He said that no notable PDP member was present at the ceremony. According to him, the party was not aware that any candidate had been so endorsed as the party guidelines were very clear on the emergence, adding that no part of the guidelines empowers any individual or group of people except the party to conduct the primaries that will produce standard bearers. http://www.tribune.com.ng/sun/index.php/news/2124-kwara-2011-saraki-endorses-daughter-gbemi-pdp-says-no |

US judges dismiss Nigerians' case against Shell September 18, 2010 11:06PM A U.S. Appeals Court on Friday dismissed a case against Royal Dutch Shell Plc that could have held the company liable over accusations it assisted Nigerian authorities in violently suppressing protests against oil exploration in the 1990s. Judges in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit in New York ruled that until the Supreme Court deemed otherwise, corporations could not be held liable in U.S. courts for violations of international human rights laws. One judge on the three-member appeals court panel wrote a strong dissent of the majority opinion, calling it "a substantial blow to international law." The case was brought by families of seven Nigerians who were executed by a former military government for protesting Shell's exploration and development. Shell has denied allegations of involvement in human rights abuses. The accusations against Shell included violations connected with the 1995 hangings of prominent activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other protesters by Nigeria's then-military government. The families had sought to make the company the first foreign corporation found liable in a U.S. court for aiding human rights violations abroad under a 1789 U.S. statute, the Alien Tort Statute (ATS). Ruling Dennis Jacobs, the Chief Judge, and Jose Cabranes, a judge, said in a written ruling that the claims could not be allowed under the statute. They said the trial judge, who declined to dismiss some claims against Shell, should have thrown out all claims. "We hold, under the precedents of the Supreme Court and our own Court over the past three decades, that in ATS suits alleging violations of customary international law, the scope of liability -- who is liable for what -- is determined by customary international law itself," the ruling said. It noted that no corporation has ever been subject to any form of civil or criminal liability under the international law of human rights. "We hold that corporate liability is not a discernible -- much less universally recognized -- norm of customary international law that we may apply pursuant to the ATS. "Accordingly, plaintiffs' ATS claims must be dismissed for lack of subject matter jurisdiction," the 138-page ruling said in part. In a dissenting opinion, Judge Pierre Leval wrote: "The majority opinion deals a substantial blow to international law and its undertaking to protect fundamental human rights. "According to the rule my colleagues have created, one who earns profits by commercial exploitation of abuse of fundamental human rights can successfully shield those profits from victims' claims for compensation simply by taking the precaution of conducting the heinous operation in the corporate form," Leval said. The cases are Wiwa et al v. Royal Dutch Petroleum Co et al, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, No. 96-08386 and Nos. 06-4800 and 06-4876 in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5620349-146/us_judges_dismiss_nigerians_case_against.csp |

Beaf:Where exactly did you get this information from?LOL. Clearly Yaradua rejected Africom along with other african leaders. Everyone knows that. And whether he said otherwise while in the US, on US Territory, is a different thing. And you say that the US is concerned about Boko Haram? What ting Boko Haram concern US?LOL. "Oil flowing" and other interests are what they care about not no dang Niger Deltan or any other nigerian. Here's a real article for you, spend a weak researching why other African leaders rejected it and also learn more about Africom: http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,156704,00.html |
amingafar:Its clear that you are yoruba from the way you display your emotions. Kwara is in the north also. |
frosbel:Although islamic extremity exist amongst Africans by African, at least they arabs spread islam then left. However, the Europeans spread christianity, as a way of killing African-hood and today continue to manipulate African countries and suppress their development. The Europeans did the exact same thing. Westernization, the systematic destruction of indigenous cultures, values and civilizations.-[Roger Pfister, "Apartheid South Africa and African States: From Pariah to Middle Power, 1962-1994" (2005)] ------------------------------------------------------------ We need to remind ourselves that White supremest Europeans settler colonialism in Africa began with the European invasion of West Africa and today persist throughout the whole of Africa. Beaf:He thought it was a way to control the Niger Delta rebellion? Makes no sense at all. Would you want another country to set up a military base in your country permanently? During that term date he gave them to turn in their arms,if they resisted it he would has immediately sent out the military and wiped them completely out. Go and learn why other military countries rejected Africom.Since you don't believe the video then go read about it. Everything to you people is a conspiracy theory when it goes against anything the west says. |
Beaf:I type something big but erased it because clearly you're not serious. I know you're just drunk off of GEJ's presidential declaration. So i'm giving you that benefit of a doubt. |
