Group Flays Jonathan Over Second Niger Bridge, Says it Is Mere Lip Service to Woo Southeast For 2015 By 247ureports A pro-democracy group, the South East Development Agenda has berated President Good luck Jonathan over his recent promise to construct the second Niger-Bridge; describing it as mere lip service to woo the zone to support his 2015 presidential bid. SEDA which is a coalition of civil society and sociocultural organizations, comprising; Anioma Progressive Front, Imo solidarity Front, Save Abia Now, Coalition for Good Governance, South East Youth for Development & Good Governance (SEYGG) and South East professionals, said the construction of the second Niger has become an object of political campaigns for successive administrations. This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the group’s meeting yesterday. Spokesmen for the group, Comrade Okonta Emeka Okelum, Godson Ibekwe-Umelo, Comrade Nnanna Nwafor, Comrade Ezekiel Okorie, Comrade Chuka. P. Okoye and Engr. Okebulu Nnadi Francis said the fate of the Southeast Zone attracts attention during political campaigns where politicians make all sorts of promises but usually forgets the zone as soon as they are elected. It called on leaders of the zone to learn from the last general elections and consider the interest of the zone as the prevailing situation where presidential candidates are adopted without negotiating what the south east stand to benefit brought us to this sorry state. “South East leaders must learn from the past, negotiate with candidates, and let us know what they have in stock for us before we give them our votes. We have been deceived over the years,” the group said. On the proposed introduction of the five thousand naira note, the group chided the federal executive council for approving al of the proposal as such will further exacerbate the existing inflationary trend. SEDA also stated that the move is at variance with the government’s much-touted cashless policy being championed by the same Central bank governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. The group commended the efforts of sister organizations working towards development of the southeast, such as IGBO RENAISSANCE GROUP,REAP 2015, C21 GROUP,SOUTH-SOUTH IBO YOUTH ALLIANCE and other progressive Pan Igbo group both at home and in diaspora for synergy towards realization of the Igbo Agenda. http://247ureports.com/group-flays-jonathan-over-second-niger-bridge-says-it-is-mere-lip-service-to-woo-southeast-for-2015/ |

APGA faults Jonathan, Okonjo-Iweala on Niger Bridge, erosion in S-East On September 5, 2012 · In News 1:00 am By Tony Edike ENUGU—THE All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, yesterday, faulted recent statements by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Minister for Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala that the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha and different erosion menaces in the South East states would be financed through concessional agreement and loans, respectively. The party said that President Jonathan’s plan to construct the Onitsha Bridge through concession meant that his administration has not made any financial commitment to the project, more so when the concessioner is expected to recover the money invested in the project through toll gates that would be erected at entry points of the Onitsha and Asaba cities. National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, who spoke in an interview with newsmen at the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu shortly on his return from England, also disagreed with some Igbo personalities who recently pledged their support for President Jonathan’s second term, if he eventually chooses to contest, saying he can not see any reason why the Igbo should not produce the president of the country in 2015. “I know that the yearning of our people is to produce a President for this country at the highest level. If there is any reason why the Igbo should not produce President for this country in 2015, it is not by jumping the gun and making noise. If we have the opportunity in 2015, we shall take it,” he said while reacting to the endorsement of Jonathan’s second term proposal by the group which meeting with Jonathan was allegedly facilitated by Governor Peter Obi. Umeh said he was out of Nigeria when President Jonathan visited Anambra State last week where the President disclosed that the second Niger bridge would be constructed through concession saying that with such arrangement President Jonathan has not redeemed his campaign pledge to Ndigbo since the people using the bridge would after all pay for the construction through toll fees. The APGA Chairman also recalled a similar statement by the Minister for Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala that the government would remedy the different erosion sites in the zone through a secured $450m loan and wondered who would be responsible for re-paying the loan. According, to him, it would be disastrous if the states in south east are made to pay back the loan in a long term since the zone is financially bankrupt. “It is cheering news that construction work at the second Niger bridge will commence in March 2013 but I was very worried that the second Niger bridge will be concessional to an international development Consulting that will construct it and what this that the company will bring the fund and it will be expected to recover its funds. What that means is that the Federal Government is not part of the financing plan for the construction and that is why I am worried. It means that after the construction, tool gates will be mounted in Onitsha-Asaba Onitsha-Owerri roads and maybe Ontisha-Enugu road ends and our people will be paying for it. “I also see a twin issue where the Minister of Finance was quoted to have said that about four hundred and fifty million dollars loan has been negotiated for fighting erosion in the south east. She said it will have a ten year moratorium when there will be retirement, it will be interest free, then the loan will be repaid under 40 years. What this means is that federal government will bring the money for the south east to fight erosion but what is not clear is if it is the Federal Government that will pay back this money or the states in the south east.’’ http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/09/apga-faults-jonathan-okonjo-iweala-on-niger-bridge-erosion-menace-in-s-east/ |

Igbo Presidency: Arthur Eze speaks for himself - Igbo group Not in our name - Oganiru Ndigbo/Igbovile We read with anguish the recent precipitous and ill advised call on President Goodluck Jonathan to contest 2015 election by a certain Chief Arthur Eze and his gang of faceless so called Igbo elders. Many of us are aware of the pedigree of this business man, who is unfortunately of Igbo origin, including his 1997 call on despotic General Sani Abacha to lead Nigeria for life. Luckily for Nigerians, God in His infinite wisdom intervened. He is back on this part of infamy. Whereas Ndigbo overwhelmingly supported the election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 elections, we remain of the view that the President should not be distracted by relevance-seeking political jobbers with such calls, even when he is yet to deliver on his major promises to Ndigbo. It is no secret that President Jonathan promised to construct second Niger Bridge within his first tenure as well as convert Enugu Airport to an International national hub. He also promised that south East Roads will receive urgently needed attention within the his current tenure. As at today, non of these promises have been fulfilled. Second Niger Bridge is still in the "drawing board" and no international flight has yet landed or taken off from Enugu Airport. South East roads remain the worst in the country, including the Enugu-Onitsha Federal highway that Chief Arthur Eze traveled to Onitsha from Ukpo through. Enugu-PH highway is at best a death trap while Aba-Ikot Ekpene highway is virtually non existent as a road. Even in sharing of national resources Ndigbo are yet to get any favors from this regime. No single refinery out of the six promised by President Jonathan is located in the South East even though three south east states, Abia, Imo and now Anambra are oil producing states. Revenue allocation is heavily skewed against Igbo states with one state receiving more monthly allocation than all 5 SE states. Even desert states that contribute next to nothing to the national revenue pool are getting more than two times the monthly allocation of oil producing Igbo states. Nobody is even discussing the promised 6th state for Ndigbo, to put the South East at par with other regions that have 6 states. Our sons and daughters in this regime have not fared better. As recently as last week, one of the best performing Ministers in this administration, who is also of Igbo origin, was forced to resign his appointment because of intrigues and in fighting within the regime. As a reformist who is expected to naturally attract opposition from vested interests in the perennially corrupt power sector in Nigeria and we expected the President to have protected him. That the President attested to the man not having done anything wrong makes it all the more unbearable that he was forced out because of ill defined conflict of interest. Other ministers of Igbo origin are not faring better within this government. It is therefore important to unequivocally state that while Ndigbo are not at war with President Jonathan, there is absolutely no reason, at this time, to endorse him or any other politician for 2015 election. More so when we are also interested in producing the best President of Nigeria in 2015 as already articulated by Ohaneze Ndigbo. We are committed to working with Mr President to achieve his electoral promises, especially as relates to Ndigbo. If by 2015 we review his performance and determine that he has done well enough to deserve second term, we will join authentic Igbo leaders to make our position known. For now, we encourage the President to focus on his work including securing the life and properties of all Nigerians. The frequent massacre of Ndigbo in parts of the country by terrorists masquerading as religious zealots is giving us sleepless nights. Real Igbo elders should be seeking a solution to this unfortunate targeting of Ndigbo rather than stomach-induced endorsements and calls for anyone to contest elections. We also wish to warn those who will use our name to make all kinds of pronouncements without seeking the opinion of the generality of our people to desist from doing so or prepare to be ostracized. Even Joshua in the Bible spoke for himself and his family, not for the entire children of Israel. When Ndigbo want to speak, we know through whom we will speak. Enough is enough! Herdsman kills man in Iseyin over N2,000 goat By Bisi Oladele, Ibadan 1 hour ago There is tension in Iseyin, a farming and traditional textile making community in Oyo State, following the killing of a resident by a Fulani herdsman on Sunday. It was learnt that the herdsman, who was identified as Mohammed Moto, killed the man, simply identified as Mufutau, at 7.30pm on Sunday at a farm after a disagreement between them. The residents are afraid that a reprisal attack might occur between the residents and Fulani herdsmen over the death. It was learnt that Moto bought a mobile phone for N3,500 from Mufutau and agreed to pay in two instalments. After paying N2,000 first instalment with a goat, the Fulani herdsman reportedly promised to pay the balance soon. The Nation gathered that the animal disappeared a few days after Mufutau collected it from Moto. Mufutau reportedly traced the goat to Moto, when he suspected that the herdsman might have removed it from where he tethered it. He was said to have sighted the goat among Moto’s herd and confronted him. This reportedly led to a fight. It was learnt that Mufutau was enraged and attacked Moto with a knife. Moto reportedly retaliated with a machete, resulting in multiple wounds on Mufutau’s body. Mufutau’s body was taken to a private hospital in the town. The police were said to have arrested Moto and transferred him to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Ibadan, for further investigations. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Clement Adoda, said the deceased did not find the goat with the seller. The police chief explained that Mufutau only told the herdsman that he was looking for the goat he purchased from him. After Mufutau confirmed that Moto was not in possession of the missing goat, Adoda said there was an argument over payment of the balance. Mufutau reportedly attacked the herdsman, who allegedly hacked him to death. The police chief said Moto has confessed to committing the crime, adding that investigation is ongoing. The traditional ruler of the town, Oba Abdulganiy Salawu, has urged the government to intervene in the incessant attacks by nomads on his people. He said the herdsmen have been attacking Iseyin residents and that only his intervention has prevented reprisal attacks. The monarch, however, appealed to his subjects to remain calm and urged them not to take the law into their hands. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/news/59761-herdsman-kills-man-in-iseyin-over-n2-000-goat.html |

That Police nigga is from Edo state and think he can call shots in Igboland. I laugh. Let him go and deal with that bat and blood written state of his. |
You yorubas are so insecure. I can only smh. |
Katsumoto: I don't get the point you are trying to make with regards to Asaba; please explain it.1. Long story short, you said the East already has PH. The last time I checked, geo-politically speaking, there is no such place as "the East" in nigeria. There is SE,SS, SW, NC,NE,NW. SS does't not = SE 2. Ok. |
Katsumoto: Are you now suggesting that International flights go to Asaba as well as Enugu and Port Harcourt? My question was: "PH International airport is in the East, right? Then which section is Asaba International airport?"- Answer please. Thank you. The demand is there and the ministers move is only going to attract more money. Read: Akanu Ibiam International Airport is closer to several parts of the following states: Abia, Anambra, Benue, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo, and Kogi states. As such, international passengers to these states will find Akanu Ibiam Airport indispensable, as the costs associated with travelling to their destinations through Lagos or Kano(Abuja as well) will be eliminated. It is crucial to note that the Southeast Nigeria, with Enugu as its headquarters as well as its center in terms of geographical location, is the home to the first, third, fourth and fifth largest markets and commercial centers in Africa. The famous Onitsha Market in the city of Onitsha, which is 85.22kilometers away from Enugu, is the largest market in Africa. It attracts a daily visit of over 200,000 people with the visitors coming from each of the 36 states in Nigeria, and neighboring countries, including Ghana, Cameroun, Ivory Coast, Togo, Chad, Senegal, Niger and other countries in West African sub-continent. Other important markets that will support the viability and boost the economic benefits of Akanu Ibiam International Airport include Nnewi Market at Nkwo Nnewi - the automobile center of West Africa, Ariari Market at Aba, Ogbate Market in Enugu, Kenyatta Market in Enugu, and Eke Market in Ekwulobia. The Auto spare parts market at Nkwo Nnewi stands out as the largest automobile and motorcycle spare parts market in Africa. Nnewi is known as the Detroit of Africa because it has the highest concentration of auto manufacturing and assembling plants in Africa. Similar to Onitsha, Nnewi is 80.45 kilometers away from Enugu. A large number of Igbo businessmen and women deal on motor spare parts and most of them come to Nnewi to obtain their merchandise. This means that most spare parts business people who reside in various parts of Nigeria, from Lagos in the West to Kano in the North travel to Nnewi to obtain their merchandise. Akanu Ibiam International Airport will also become the landing port for others from all the African countries that visit Nnewi for automobile business. Currently, they must go through Lagos or Abuja before taking a local flight to Enugu. A direct international flight to Enugu will save time and money – the bottom-line for any business decision. |
