Akwa Ibom to become a major maritime destination, says Folarin 07/12/2011 08:30:00 Chief Kunle Folarin, the Chairman of Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC), has said that Akwa Ibom will become a major maritime destination in Nigeria when ongoing plans to develop Ibaka Deep Seaport are concluded. He made the observation at a news conference in Uyo on Tuesday. Folarin said that the federal and state governments, as well as private sector organisations had shown considerable interest in the development of Ibaka Deep Seaport. The choice of Ibaka Deep Seaport is deliberate, as it will be the first deep seaport in the country. The Federal Government is highly interested in the seaport project,” he said. Folarin said that NPCC, in collaboration with Akwa Ibom State Government, would hold a two-day maritime summit in Akwa Ibom from Wednesday, Dec. 7. He said that the summit’s participants would also undertake a facility visit to the site of the deep seaport at Ibaka. Our mission here is to share with the good people of Akwa Ibom the opportunities that abound in the maritime sector of our national economy, he said. Saying that the summit’s theme Unlocking the Maritime Potential of Akwa Ibom State for Accelerated Economic Development in Nigeria’’ – was very apt, Folarin pledged the readiness of the NPCC to partner with the state government in maritime development efforts. The council has very fruitful and encouraging interaction with Gov. Godswill Akpabio and his executive team. We hope to continue the interaction with the public and other stakeholders in the state, The components of the summit, which will be anchored on eight papers that will be presented by erudite scholars and professionals, will lead to the evolution of a roadmap that will complement the good work of Gov. Akpabio,’’ he said.Folarin said that the establishment of a deep seaport would bring about infrastructural and physical development, as well as the development of allied maritime industries. He said that it would also create wealth, entrepreneurship and jobs, while fostering human capacity development and youth empowerment. The NPCC which is the umbrella body of all the critical stakeholders in the nation’s maritime sector,” he said. In response to a question on the challenges facing seaports across the country, Folarin stressed that cargo owners were primarily responsible for the removal of cargoes from the ports. ndu_chucks:Not that it matters because we are leaving nigeria anyway, but what gave you the notion that we will annihilate each other when we never fought(warred) amongst ourselves before we were forced into nigeria or after? |
Ileke-IdI:Zuzu Fuo n'ihu! Fatah!!! ![]() |
Ileke-IdI:U you dey do me like this now? ![]() |
ChinenyeN:Doesn't really matter. As long as you, him, me are in this nigeria we are Igbo before anything. Nothing like clan nonsense when we are all suffering d same . . . Now when out of nigeria then maybe. . . |
Ileke-IdI: ![]() |
igbo boy:lolz ![]() |
Ileke-IdI:shogbo? Ileke no mind him. Everything na Igbo's fault. I am here for you. Follow me to Delta State. Have you tasted Banga soup before? ![]() |
wesley80:You can take the ukwuani language and shove it. I'm Igbo before anything and dont give 2 craps abt your superior/inferior complex towards other Igbos. When self hating Igbos like yourself accept reality,COMPLETELY then we will be better off and get our Anioma state. although im aware of your opposition to anioma state. Keep it up. Never take me as a brother because I'm Ukwuani as long as you dont see other Igbos as brothers it is F U. Remember I said that. Ngwa nu nu. ![]() |
ekt_bear:Maybe not average, just pulling Al haram's leg. There is a high rate of yorubas with Igbo blood in them, the same cant be said for the Igbo. Your people marry our women a lot,but we dont marry your woman(at least not often). To my knowledge I have no Igbo relatives, at least out to cousins.Might be true but I'd advise u go back to nigeria and go down the family like, even through marriage you'd be surprised. ![]() |
Beaf, Gbawe is right. We all know this, including you. You dont need to keep supporting blindly. State police like I was suggesting in my first post does not mean control will be left to the governors. |
Do 50year old men not have a right to marry a 9 year old or 13 year olds if they are in love with each other in the U.S.? I hope Mr. president is not say that they dont have the right. Because according to his logic he would be discrimminating. |
Ileke-IdI:Anyways, back to topic. He therefore called on groups like ACF, Ohaneze, South-south Peoples Assembly, Afenifere, Middle Belt and other Nigerians to strengthen their ties and entrench unity in diversity.Gowon has definitely sip is last cup of tea along time ago. Why is this guy being allowed to talk. Wasn't state creation, which he claims responsibilty for, division. Now this man is talking about unity. Funny! |
Ileke-IdI:Sorry, i dont roll that way. I got no sugar in my blood. You should hop on this hot ans sexy Ukwuani man and stop frontin. ![]() |
Funny! Controlled by people in power? Must state police be controlled the governors? If what you have now isn't working then the smart thing would be to try something new. How bout taking a leaf from the structures put in place by the U.S. concerning state police. ![]() |
Ileke-IdI:If you are nice to me, maybe I'll allow you to be the Biafran ambassador to Odua Rep. after this this expired milk call nigeria is thrown in the dump. ![]() |
Ileke-IdI:Don't attach any gaggazoid qualities to me. btw, you iz not the only aspirant and im sticking to "It's plead the 5th" |
Ileke-IdI:You're funny. It's plead the 5th.how'z abt putting up another photo. Been long enuff dont ya think? ![]() |
aurenflani:Why must it be done? What would be the detriment to the ethnic groups if not in nigeria? |
Ileke-IdI:I see you are looking for my trouble today. |
In fact which Yoruba or Igbo here doesn't have a person from the opposite tribe in your family? lets be honest. Waiting for replies. . . . . |
alj_harem:Not true. An average Yoruba person has Igbo blood in him. The average Igbo doesn't.Or if you think that is too far fetch you can say the average yoruba and igbo person has one another as a relative. |
Ileke-IdI:Ileke get help. |
alj_harem:They never chose to be Arewa, they were made. You and I both know that. |
gentmint:I hope you are aware that new york isn't the only place were these people are protesting? If not, let me inform you that they are in washington,dc at the nigerian embassy doing the same. They are being paid. The goal is to build up propaganda to apply pressure on nigeria along with Britain, etc. All of those people arent even nigerian. Even the gay nigerians know that there is nothing like gay marriage and overly open gayness in nigeria so why would they protest a build that is not alien to something that they've been use to? All the new law does is put things in stone and sets a reminder. |
My article has nothing to do with the one you posted. The fact is what is stated in my article. The MIDDLE BELT does not want to be associated with the Hausa or Fulani. They have made this clear repeatedly. The article is proof. I don't know if you realize but the traditional rulers are who speak for the people not "political figures". There is no coincidence in why the groups in the middle belt didnt attend. Also, lets not mention Gowon, he hasnt even condemned the killings of his people by the hausa and fulani settlers and army men. You muslim northerners have no control over the middle belters as you may want. Get ready for more up-roar when state creation comes. You northerners will know that the middlebelt has a mind of its own. |
I wonder how much the U.S. gov is paying these guys to protest. |
