PoliticsRe: Abia Govt Recalls Sacked Non-indigenes Workers by Chyz2(op): 12:06am On Nov 25, 2011
This is what caused T.A. Orji to have a rethink about the sack of non-SE workers:

Kelechi Nwaugo, representing Omuma Constituency, yesterday  said he received a petition from 68 Rivers State indigenes, who were disengaged in Abia State.

Nwaugo said non indigenes, especially those from Abia State, be disengaged from the Civil Service to create room for the 68  who had been laid off in Abia State since October 1.

Another lawmaker, Golden Chioma,  said: “ If we keep quiet, tomorrow other states will take us for a ride.”

Chioma noted that there are about 500 Abia indigenes teaching in Rivers State-government owned schools.

He said: “By the time their names are compiled and a letter sent to Abia government, the Abia State indigenes who are working in Rivers State civil service would begin to call their government to order.”

Abia govt recalls sacked non-Igbo workers

From CHUKS ONUOHA, Umuahia

Friday November 25, 2011

Following the public outcry and wide condemnation of his recent indigenization policy, which led to the sack of non-natives in the state civil service, the Abia State Government has recalled non-natives from outside the South-east geo-political zone,   to return  to their duty posts.

It also asked those corps members,  employed for their exceptional performance after their primary assignment in the state  to return to work, stating that  they were initially not supposed to be affected by the policy.
The Chief Press Secretary to  Governor  Orji, Mr. Ugochukwu Emezue, who disclosed this to newsmen in Umuahia said the issue of non-natives was taken in the best interest of the state and its people after due consultation with stakeholders of the state.
He noted that the decision of the state governor did not go down well with some people and groups within and outside the state, hence the setting up of  a committee headed by the Attorney-General to look into some of the issues raised.”

“The committee is currently doing its work, but the governor decided to take some actions because of his humane nature by recalling the corps members, who were given automatic employment by the state after doing exceptionally well during their service year,” the CPS said. He said further that the governor, after considering these set of people and others like them, decided to ask them to return to their duty posts, while awaiting the action or recommendation of the committee on the non-natives. Emezue explained that the governor had also directed that those non-natives who were earlier sent packing and are from outside the South-east zone should come back to their duty posts immediately.

“Some  mistakenly sent packing from the state and their duty post and others like them have been asked to resume work, while the committee is still doing their work where they will consider other matters concerning the non-natives issue.” Emezue also noted that the action of his boss to personally reconsider some categories of workers earlier sent packing was a sign that he was a true statesman and that he had the interest of the people at heart and called for understanding of the government policy.
According to him,  Governor Orji had always made it clear that the decision to send non-natives back to their states of origin was a painful one and that it was taken because of the high wage bill caused by the new minimum wage, which the state could no longer carry, adding that “he has no need to apologize to anybody or group of people.”

I laugh at the whole oduduwa thing because they claim he is yoruba and Oduduwa(Odua,Oduwa) is a yoruba name/word,yet, it has no meaning in their language. The other story is that he is from Saudi Arabia, yet, there's nothing like or close to a name like Oduduwa(Odua, Oduwa) in Arabic.

I wonder why the name has a meaning in Igbo and so does it in Bini laguage, and both of those meanings are similar. . .hmmm? Can the yorubas expalin this one please? lipsrsealed

So, lets list some things in yoruba culture which were influenced by igbo or other tribes.

Cant really think of anything but maybe someone else can.

I heard masquerades were influenced by nupe but i seriously doubt that. I'd say they're more of ugbo, going by the moremi story.

I dont know if ogbono was adopted from igbo cuisine. Yorubas call it apon.
You damn right ogbono was and you know it. So was egusi! Seems like your speaking too soon my dear. And if you dont think nupe influenced yoruba go read a book on it. Although I am pretty sure you know they influenced you people. wink

CAN faults CBN’s $5m investment in Islamic biz group

On November 23, 2011 · In News , Tweet

By Sam Eyoboka

CONTROVERSY that attended the issue of non-profit (Islamic) banking in Nigeria was yet to settle down when it appeared that Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, was on another collision course with the Christian commu-nity in the country as he was said to have invested the nation’s $5 million in an Islamic organisation known as International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation.

The investment, according to reports, automatically makes Nigeria, a secular nation, to be a full member of the Islamic body.

According to the reports, there are 191 members of the body comprising 54 regulatory and supervisory authorities, seven interna-tional inter-governmental organisations and 130 market players, professio-nal firms and industry associations operating in 43 jurisdictions of which the CBN is one such regulatory bodies that has full membership status.

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, National President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the umbrella body of Christians, who had spearheaded a campaign against the manner the CBN governor has been using the nation’s collective resources to champion the cause of Islamic banking in the country, responded in a telephone interview.

He told Vanguard: “If what you are telling me is true, then it confirms what we have been saying all along which people have refused to acknowledge and accuse us of heating up the polity. When we react to certain subterranean attempts by some individuals to Islamise the nation, we are accused of heating up the polity.

“They don’t acknowledge that we are only reacting to the actions of certain individuals who appear to be untouchables.”

According to the CAN president, the decision by the CBN governor to drag Nigeria into the Islamic group is reminiscent of the way the General Ibrahim Babangida’s military administration dragged the country into the Organisation of Islamic Countries, OIC.

Oritsejafor charged President Goodluck Jonathan to call Malam Sanusi to order, adding that the unilateral actions of the Kano prince are unbecoming of a CBN governor of a secular nation.

Oritsejafor maintained that the CBN governor was working on an agenda while everybody appears to look the other way.

He, therefore, asked all well meaning Nigerians to prevail on President Jonathan to call him to order.

He argued that since Nigeria is a secular state it was wrong for Sanusi to invest the nation’s collective wealth to register the Central Bank in an Islamic organisation, adding: “We have always said that Nigeria is a secular country.

“This habit of taking us into Islamic organisations will continue to create problem in the minds of the people.”

and that his penchant for playing the religious card with the country’s finances certainly can no longer acceptable.

He wondered how long the nation’s authority would look on while the CBN governor was steadily and methodologically dragging the nation by the noose in to different Islamic organisations across the globe.
