CPC, Northern groups in secret pact with IBB, Atiku, Gusau •In fresh bid to stop Jonathan Written by Taiwo Adisa Thursday, 03 March 2011 THE leadership of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) plans to enter into a secret pact with the pro-zoning leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a bid to stop President Goodluck Jonathan from winning the next presidential election. The Nigerian Tribune has obtained details of a meeting to that effect, which was held at the Abuja residence of the Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organisation, Dr Sule Hamman, indicating that General Ibrahim Babangida was already working hand in hand with the party and that the party planned separate meetings with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and General Mohammadu Gusau. The meeting, held on February 25, was said to have decided on the need to frustrate the plan by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win at the first ballot and that the opposition parties could come together and gang up against the PDP if they succeed in winning a rerun poll. Those at the meeting, according to details at the disposal of the Nigerian Tribune, included the national chairman of the CPC, Mr Tony Momoh; the party’s General Secretary, Mr Buba Galadima; spokesman of the Buhari Campaign, Mr Yinka Odumakin; Mallam Mustapha Salihu; Chairman of the Unity Forum (UF), Alhaji M. M. Abdul and the forum’s secretary and one-time minister, Alhaji Murtala Aliyu. The Unity Forum is said to be the driving force of the secret agenda, which is seen as a silent way of dragging Buhari into the zoning issue. The former head of state had refused to be drawn into the zoning controversy all the while but sources said that Buhari was fast realising the need to key into the zoning agenda secretly so as to benefit politically. Sources further confirmed that the meeting also resolved to forestall the electoral alliance planned between the CPC and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) until it was possible for the opposition to stall PDP’s victory in April. The meeting said that the opposition parties should concentrate their efforts on their areas of strength and that they could come together once a rerun is made possible in April. Sources also confirmed that the meeting also concluded on the decision to put alliance talks in abeyance for now, as a result of the plot to stop the PDP from winning a landslide victory. The meeting agreed that if the opposition parties bonded together for now, the PDP might easily override them, but going into the election separately would mean that they might be able to stop the PDP from winning at first ballot. “They believe that if they go into the election as a united front, the PDP would easily knock them out and that once the PDP is stopped at the first ballot, all hands would then be required to come together,” sources said. It was also revealed that the opposition party had decided to work with General Ibrahim Babangida, to ensure he delivered his area to the CPC, with some meetings being scheduled with him and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on the need for them to support General Buhari for presidency. The belief in the opposition camp was that the PDP would not win 51 per cent of the vote, if the voting pattern remained as projected in different zones. The UF and CPC leaders believed that the CPC could win majority of the votes in the North-West and North-East, while the ACN could win in the South-West, leaving the PDP with the South-East and the South-South, which lacked the number to threaten votes from the North-West and South-West. The meeting resolved that with the opposition appearing strong in the North-West and North-East, all they needed to do was to ensure that the votes of Lagos and South-West went to the ACN. However, some leaders of the CPC, at the meeting, expressed concern over the failure of the party to commence its presidential campaign while the PDP was midway its campaign. Though Buhari was yet to speak with Atiku, members of the UF and other leaders, it was gathered, were planning to ensure a meeting between Buhari and other pro-zoning leaders in the PDP, so as to seal a deal. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/18348-cpc-northern-groups-in-secret-pact-with-ibb-atiku-gusau-in-fresh-bid-to-stop-jonathan |
How exactly is a regular civilian going to know if it is rigged by just staying a the voting center? In other words he is telling his supporters to lynch the administrators if the outcome is not in his favor. I have no problem with the lynching of the riggers if it was rigging was without a doubt that apparent, apart from the snatching of ballots, but the way this guy is so quick to throw death out there is crazy.Kind of reminds me of Dan Fodio. |
April polls: Lynch anybody who attempts to rig, Buhari tells Nigerians From AIDOGHIE PAULINUS, who was in Kaduna Thursday, March 03, 2011 General Mohammadu Buhari (retd), former Head of State and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has told Nigerians to “lynch” anybody who attempts to rig the April polls. “You should never leave polling centres until votes are counted and the winner declared and you should lynch anybody that tries to tinker with the votes,” Buhari told a large crowd of supporters. Buhari, a third-timer, who spoke at the North-West flag off of then CPC campaign in Kaduna, said he was on a rescue mission “I submit that in the affairs of man, it is only God that can determine history and ordain destiny. In my own case, it is destiny that threw me up to serve as the Head of State of this great country at that particular moment of our national history. “I would say with all humility that I dutifully accepted all the challenges and responsibilities of Head of State and Government. Whatever role I played, whether as leader or member of government, all my decisions and actions were always guided by a clear conscience, “My conscience constantly guided me to treat everyone and every group in the country with fairness and equity. That is why I can stand before Nigerians here today and hold my head high, knowing that I am ever ready to face any scrutiny or answer any question regarding my past performance as a public figure. I am always ready to give account of my past records to the Nigerian people.” Buhari further said it was his firm belief that the flag-off was not about the past, rather, an engagement that reflects on the future of Nigeria. “We are today facing an uncertain future in an uncertain world. It is vital Nigerians make the right choice about who would look after them in the next four years. “, I consider myself to be on a rescue mission. Never before have we seen such bad leadership in our national life. The country’s life is literally falling apart on all fronts-on security, in education, on the economy, in healthcare system and youth employment. Many critical observers have begun to list Nigeria among the failed states of the 21st century,” Buhari said. Commenting on the role played by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the nation’s affairs in the past 12 years, Buhari said: “We are internationally recognized for corruption, inefficiency, business uncertainty and infrastructural decay. “For 12 years, the PDP government has failed to tackle all these problems in spite of the resources at their disposal. We can and we must reverse these trends.” He said the first step to achieveing that was for Nigerians to vote PDP out. “They are finished. They have passed their sell-by date,” he declared. Speaking further, Buhari said: “Why should our economy be left to operate on individual power generating sets? If their aspiration to govern Nigeria for the next 60-200 years is pure, why are they unable to guarantee something as fundamental and basic as security of life and property? “Where was the PDP led government when what started as occasional incidents of kidnapping degenerated to the embarrassing dimension of an incorporated evil business? Does it matter to this administration that insecurity has compelled many potential foreign investors to drop Nigeria from their list? “Should we continue to vote the same people who have presided over the decline in quality of life in Nigeria for the last 12 years?’ “Shamefully, these people are openly canvassing a desire to rule Nigeria for 60 or 200 years. Nigerians must reject these political zoo keepers and stop them in their tracks. And stop them now. During the last 12 years, they have almost transformed Nigeria into the proverbial animal farm where sycophants dominate both the airwaves and print media,” Buhari said. http://64.182.81.172/webpages/news/national/2011/mar/03/national-03-03-2011-013.htm http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2011/mar/03/national-03-03-2011-013.htm |
