violent: The comparison you are attempting to bring up here has no correlation with the Libyan situation.
At the start of the Protest, a MAJORITY of the Libyan populace lend their voice, their sweat, and their blood. . .spending days and night on a standstill insiting their leader must relinquish power for a democratic system.
Then the bombing start. . .the tyrant bombed the people into submission, his mercenaries shot unarmed civilians, there were calls from both within Libya and outside of Libya for help, the African Union made no single statement!
The bombings continue, Gadaffi's supposed well trained army fought with poorly trained rebels who were initially unarmed protesters. Gadaffi's army used advantage of co ordinated air raids and land strikes against these same people demanding for freedom, African Union was no where to be found.
Libyan diplomats all around the world resigned their positions in protest, top military officials deflected to the side of the rebels, they called on the Arab league and the International community to stop Gaddaffi's madness, where was African Union amidst all these? From your first statement, I can tell that you do not know what you aree talking about, no offense. Contrary to what you said, the majority of the country was and is in support of Gaddafi. Benghazi is NOT the whole of Libya. It is an area in eastern Libya. Most of Libyans view the attack as another round of the war on islam by christians within the mediterranean. You should read up on that historical rivalry. Also, have u seen an actual video of him "bombing" the civilians? Random civilians? Lybian diplomats all around the world did not resign and the ones who did was because of pressure put on them by western countries which they were in. The African union has been in the mist of the situation but unfortunately for us, we Africans, we do not control the international media waves. News as such are simply suppressed. Also the comparison that I made is completely relevant in all walks. After all security apparatuses are destroyed, by whom and how is the country to be governed unless it's by the people who destroyed the countries defense? Is that not colonization or imposition? Shine your eyes. |

@Pataki, before you come out and insult your people in favor of your masters(EU et al) you should actually click the link and read the full article. The AU took the peaceful and diplomatic route: African Union demands 'immediate' halt to Libya attacks
African Union demands 'immediate' halt to Libya attacks AFP – A Libyan woman shouts slogans against strongman Moamer Kadhafi during a demonstration in front of the … – Sat Mar 19, 9:55 pm ET
NOUAKCHOTT (AFP) – The African Union's panel on Libya Sunday called for an "immediate stop" to all attacks after the United States, France and Britain launched military action against Moamer Kadhafi's forces. After a more than four-hour meeting in the Mauritanian capital, the body also asked Libyan authorities to ensure "humanitarian aid to those in need," as well as the "protection of foreigners, including African expatriates living in Libya."
It underscored the need for "necessary political reforms to eliminate the causes of the present crisis" but at the same time called for "restraint" from the international community to avoid "serious humanitarian consequences."
The panel also announced a meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on March 25, along with representatives from the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Conference, the European Union and the United Nations to "put in place a mechanism for consultation and concerted action" to resolve the Libyan crisis.
The AU committee on Libya is composed of five African heads of state. But the Nouakchott meeting was only attended by the presidents of Mauritania, Mali and Congo. South Africa and Uganda were represented by ministers.
The committee said it had been unable to get international permission to visit Tripoli on Sunday but did not elaborate.
Libyan generosity and Moamer Kadhafi's role in the creation of the African Union could explain the continental cautious stand, experts said.
The AU was born in the 1999 Sirte Declaration, named after a summit hosted by Kadhafi in his hometown on the Libyan coast.
The declaration said its authors felt inspired by Kadhafi's "vision for a strong and united Africa."
"The AU as an organisation has benefited significantly from Kadhafi's wealth," said Fred Golooba Mutebi of the Institute of Social Research at Kampala's Makerere University.
The pan-African body has taken a firmer stance on three west African crises: most recently Ivory Coast and previously Guinea and Niger.
Handouts aside, Libya has invested billions of dollars in sub-Saharan Africa.
It has interests in more than two dozen African countries, while its petroleum refining and distribution unit Oil Libya has interests in at least as many.

Wooow! R u sure of d facts? Think u should recheck and come back. But dont let us derail ds thread. Never said whites were the first to bring slavery to Africa. I'm quite aware that Arabs introduced it to them; however, it does not take away from the elementary comment that you made. Don't be a house-nigger. |

violent: Why should anyone take some bunch of clowns that call themselves African Union seriously?. . .They messed up the Ivory Coast situation, now the world sees them as a fúcking joke!
Where was the African Union when Ghaddafi marched troops on Benghazi? If a radical white supremacist group reals its head in Britain and causes mayhem in the country, does their prime minister not have the right to quell these people, who are armed from head to toe? Or should the UN come in and stop the prime minister and his government for putting in the mechanism to disintegrate the rebellion against the government? |

Guy, go check your history right. Europeans never brought slavery to Africa. Slavery had been before d Europeand exploited it. Mind u, slavery is still on-going in Africa but we all feel cool because there is no European to accuse. Dumbest statement of the day! |

monkeyleg: So what has the AU been doing since Madman Ghadaffi has been killing his own people, what have they been doing in Ivory coast? What is thier reason for not wanting NATO in there, if Not business as Usual.
I beg I support them fully. The AU has been very vocal in the Ivory Coast issue.I'm surprised you are even insinuating that they did/are doing nothing. The tragedy of what is going on in Ivory Coast is due to the interference of the EU and UN in the elections. I am shocked at your statement. You are Igbo as am I. You should be aware that the same thing the the "international community" a.k.a. western powers are doing in Ivory Coast and Libya is the same thing they did to us during the civil war which caused millions of us to die. You should be ashamed of yourself. Were the "rebels" helped then by the west? Please open your eyes. |

He should never have pledge something like this, especially since he claims he will only be in office for 4 years. The goal shouldnt be to give every state an airport, which is clearly impossible given his situation, he should focus on fixing what hasn't be working. |

My Eastern brother, how many supporters did Akintola have in the west to represent them People shout Awolowo not Akintola ( although, he is still respected). About Lagos, . . . . . . . . and so?? Lagos is the cosmopolitan city in Nigeria. I was never against igbos in Lagos, what I was always critical about is the idea of "demanding" or blackmailing the Lagos state governor through ethnic politics. I did not want some sill.y Chief Uche to bring ethnic politics to Lagos, I did not want a "Jos" in Lagos. BTW, if there was a Jos, we know everyone would lose so why create one Its silly, innit With the level of intermarriages between ethnic groups in Lagos, the ethnic boundary has been blurred. I do not want Ohanaeze or Chief Uche to sharpen that boundary and I bet many many many igbos will not want that too. First of all, I'm not from the East, get it right mate. And Igbos shout Ojukwu not Zik,generally speaking. Africa shouts ZIK. About Lagos, it is ONE nigeria. Lagos belongs to everyone, not yorubas. We can demand what we want, simple. |

jason123: LOL at the article. LOL @"yoruba kins men are uhrobos". True or not, I do not know ( maybe through the Edo connection ) will BEAF take that?
@ Article, [s] This was the reason I was asking the question earlier today, "who are the SS?". To me (my opinion only), it is an avenue for the promotion of the ijaw expansionist agenda. That was why I was laughing when "reccome" was saying the SS will join this and that. For my people ( of there is no choice but to leave Nigeria. although, we should not leave now), ITS EITHER SOUTHERN NIGERIA OR THE YORUBAS and EDOS. Chikena!!! I think I am now get a fuller picture about Nigeria. If the yorubas are complaining about marginalisation then what has the igbo man been facing?? It must have been hell. I hail the igbos!! Through long suffering and perseverance, they still believe in ONE NIGERIA (from AZIKWE TILL NOW) even though their brothers (Hausas and Yorubas)NEVER for ONCE believed in it. I HAIL YOU GUYS. You have tried!
As for the SS, I really cannot say much. Right now, since the ijaws are the majority in the SS, they should continue with the National politics.
As for yorubas, "Yoruba ronu!"
s for hausas or Northeners, I know how you guys have endured the Nigeria project. Don't worry with time we would learn to respect our differences. [/s] One nigeria is not just Zik's wish but Yoruba wish from their father Akintola. Thank goodness for the yorubas ONE Nijiria thing, kudos for you guyus. You've really done it. If not for you all, we Igbos wouldn't be more than the indigenes of lagos in lagos . Oh and um I forgot to add OBJ's ONE Nijiria belief too. |
