Sony is getting into the plus-sized phone game in a big way. Today they've officially announced the Xperia Z Ultra, a super-sized handset that follows the design principles of the original Xperia Z. Nearly all the specifications (with the exception of the camera) have been boosted over the current Sony flagship, starting with a downright massive 6.44-inch 1080p screen. Other highlights include a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2Ghz, (labeled as "the world's fastest" a super-slim 6.5mm body, and a water- and dust-resistant design.



The screen is definitely the star of the show here. Sony calls it a TRILUMINOUS Display, incorporating technology from the Bravia television line, including the X-Reality video-enhancing software. The idea is that the screen will actively analyze video and reproduce lacking pixels in a sharper and more vivid way. Obviously we can't comment on the efficacy of these claims, but it's safe to say that those who love enormous screens will be well-served by the Xperia Z Ultra.

That unbelievably slim body is built with the same layout and visual cues as the Xperia Z and Xperia Tablet Z, including tempered glass on both sides and the power button mounted on the center of the right edge of the device. The frame is metal, giving the phone more strength than one might think - it's also rated IP55 waterproof, which means that it can handle 1.5 meters of liquid submersion for up to 30 minutes. It's reasonably resistant to dust and other small particles. Sony will offer the phone in black, white, and purple colors.

Storage will be offered at 16GB, with a MicroSD card slot accessible to the user. That's a bit on the low side for a flagship device. The battery, on the other hand, is a quite respectable 3000mAh, though that screen will definitely eat it up faster than more conventional phones. Sony claims that the Xperia Z Ultra will get up to 11 hours of talk time, 5.5 hours of video playback, and a whopping 120 hours of audio playback. Sony attributes this to its STAMINA system. The phone's software is Sony's customized version of Android 4.2.

The only downside to the phone is a somewhat dated 8-megapixel rear camera, which is fine, but compares poorly to the 13.1 megapixel shooter on the Xperia Z and other high-end smartphones as of late. The reason for this apparent downgrade isn't clear - perhaps Sony couldn't get a bigger sensor in that slim body? In any case, the phone will include HDR modes for video and stills. The front-facing camera is 2MP.

The Xperia Z Ultra is set for a third quarter 2013 global release, with precise dates varying by market. There is no price set for the phone at the moment.

Samsung announced its ATIV Q convertible notebook capable of dual-booting Windows 8 and Android thanks to its 1.6GHz Intel Core i5-4200U CPU. The new generation Intel Haswell CPUs are impressive on paper, but how would ATIV Q’s processor fare on the Android AnTuTu benchmark?



Thankfully, ePrice have asked the same question and have put the Intel Core i5 chip through the AnTuTu hoops to find out. Moreover, this is the first time ever that a Haswell chip has been benchmarked on the Android mobile operating system.

The results are simply breathtaking – the Intel Core i5-4200U running at 1.6GHz scored 54861 points. To give you some perspective the leaked Samsung Galaxy S4 with LTE and its 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 under the hood scored just 24179.



Nevertheless, the result of the Core i5-4200U is impressive whichever way you look at it. Even more so, when you consider the 3200 x 1800 pixels that the display of the ATIV Q is pushing.

blackweaver: torrent is for sharing files, and not necessarily illegally, sometimes even the download sites recommend that u download torrents to reduce load on their servers. That happens a lot in linux, especially when a new version comes out

It was the boy’s principal, who alerted authorities to the incident, after the boy confided in him about the affair when he wanted it to end.

The organization, male survivors of sexual abuse, said that this case proves that the law has to be changed and that women should be held equally responsible.

Under New Zealand law, the crime of rape, which applies only to men, carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. Judge Judith Collins said she would investigate. “This case raises an important point. I will seek advice from officials on whether or not a law change is required,” Collins said.

And yes the Ativ Q does have provision for USB.

Anyways I'm willing to bet that this tablet will cost over $800.

Informed sources in the industry SPECULATE about the possibility of such a device from Nokia but you with your research announce with confidence that the Finish OEM already has W8 tablets. on the note 2 just sweep your palm across the screen and you have your screenshot or better still, while keeping the s pen button pressed, press keep the pen applied to the screen for say 2 seconds. There's an option to screenshot just one select area of the screen

this tablet is geared towards productivity. It blows the ipad out of the water. Just so you know, it features same processor with that in the new mac books

Miss EZ: I think this product has been on the market for sometime. It is a convertible laptop, atleast that is how it is being advertised here in the US. It comes with a detachable keyboard and has both a tablet and laptop mode and function.

Taking its functions into account, i doubt this is geared towards being an ipad competitor, i think it was made to provide dual functionality for people who want both products but dont want them separately.

this is a new ATIV tab. Samsung had an ATIV tab that ran Windows 8 only. This is different

intel has finally arrived to oust ARM give em 2 more releases for to bring out 14nm chips. Heard the haswell chips offer 15% performance increase over ivy bridge. Imagine that power kicking through mobile benchmarks
