In addition, while starting out, don't focus on the money, but the passion.. Trust me, the money will take a very long time to come. And it's only the passion that will keep you going when it starts to feel like you made the wrong choice and should have joined the other boys in doing . . . [insert social vice here]

Also don;t go rivaling an existing fortune 500 company. Watching 2 hours of Javascript on youtube and trying to be the next FB, TikTok, next Amazon of Nigeria. Hell no, be calm and stay focused, and hopefully one day, you'll build a rocket.

2020 programmers I would like you guys to answer this question.
Its quite possible, if you get a good job. I do live in a duplex, and drive a Merc [almost exactly what the original OP intended to know]
This should motivate every programmer out there, although you gotta pay the price, which is TIME !
It takes time ; a very long one at that.

Hahaha
Bro, honestly thanks for showing me your circle/level of competence.
If you are interested and you are decent solutions architect, I will be willing to hear from you and you will get a decent salary and equity compensation that's dependent on you achieving certain goals.
If you are interested in an internship position and I don't have to school you, your pay is gonna be higher than 80k.
But at this point you don't even come across as a good employee, how you gonna be jumping to conclusions when you could ask for clarifications ? That is basic developer soft skills expected from any decent developer/engineer.
I don't think I mentioned compensation structure in the post so I don't know where all your assumptions are coming from.
But I understand Nigeria makes people pessimistic and think the worst in people so I cannot really be mad at an internet stranger.
Thanks for doing what you're doing though.
Sorry, I'll pass. I am already CTO where I am at.
I review other people's code and write too every goddamn day, it's what I do for a living.
You couldnt afford to pay me, if i even wanted to charge half of what I deserve
Talking about competence, hell yea
Not being pessimistic, just talking from experience. You wanna place a bet on it?

I don't even know why i'm replying but I guess I am ...
Bro, you are one of the problems with Nigeria
If a situation doesn't work for you, ignore it and keep it moving ... you don't have to bad mouth it, especially a job listing ... Bruhhhh.
Smoke weed or something, chillax!

What side of the bed did you wake up on ??

I explicitly stated I wanted a cofounder, plus I stated that interested people should be self driven and ready to dedicate significant time and sweat equity. I also gave context about the start up, where we are in the product life cycle etc.
I expect anyone who replies to be experienced, looking for a challenge and smart enough to consider risks and opportunity costs.

I don't know how delayed compensation == free labour, or where you even got free labour from.

But anyway brother, it is well.
No, I will not move on and allow the next-door neighbor fall into your deceptive trap.
if you are seeking a co-founder, then be ready to pay him for his time. He did not fall off the sky, he;s gonna have bills, family and friends, girlfriends, the list is endless. . to take care off. And if you just as care as much as you do, then you add equity (stakes) to the equation.
That's how its done. and only an inexperienced developer will quickly jump on your offer.
Search thru Nairaland, there are multitudes of posts like yours and they never saw the light of day.
You know why? Cos its unreal, it's a dream. Many have dropped their whatsapp numbers, where are they today?
cos they realized while the challenge was sweet, challenges DONT PAY THE BILLS. They were better off, grabbing a regular job that pays 80k than
holding on to equity that "might never materialize"
Its one of the stages any greenhorn will go through, seeing offers like yours and thinking it could be the next big thing.
yes, while it could be, the PAY CANNOT BE COMPROMISED. And just say you ACTUALLY NEED ONE FOR REAL, trust me, they aint here
i expect nothing lesser, from developers here, afterall it only cost 20k to build a "world class web application" in here.
Cheers.

Lol... Guess Twitter and Google doesn't use an "hardened server" for a bunch of people to have found bugs "externally" and earned huge bounty payouts.
Damn! Google and twitter should stop using $8 servers and opt for the $200+ ones xD.
And you think none of the guys who found out the bugs were ever interested in using it in an attack? Why?
They were scared of gettign caught and took the legit , say , $10,000 bounty or more, or it could not be used in an attack?
Everybody that found the bug reported it and got the bounty, they were all white-hat and no black-hat has ever found one or is capable of finding one? #Foodforthought

its one thing to find a bug, and other thing to transform it into an attack vector; and that is why most bug bounties will always end there, as bugs. the kid who hacked Twitter recently found 0 bugs but had the most powerful tool, human intervention; making it what? an assisted internal attack. i'll love to see him or you any of your friends do a solo external attack on Twitter or Google and dump a snapshot of their database here; 0-day my foot.

EvilSec:
Pwning corporations is a lot less difficult than you think. I don't need to find a crazy 0day in GCP or AWS.
People make mistakes and humans are the weakest link in any organization. Hacking is rarely finding crazy elite hacks to remotely break into systems. It's a lot of just coming up with creative ways to get the user or chain multiple users to get to an admin to give you their password or to run some malicious code.
Did you see where i mentioned a hardened server? or you just wanted to comment for "comment's sake"?
if i bought a regular bare-metal server, yes i could goof on implementing my own security, and you could 0-day the life out of it
but if i went to a hardened server, i'll love to see you try. A regular bare-metal server on GCP cost about $8 the cheapest, a hardened nginx server cost about $200+ per month for the base configuration. Once again, i 'll like to see you try an external hack.
We all know that hacks that happened to big corps, had an insider man .. e.g. the latest Twitter hacks; and your comment confirms it.. On a very good day, a thousand elites hackers cannot remotely break into Twitter, never, not gonna happen. And no way you're gonna use social engineering to break into Twitter's database or Google's database; cos you will have to "social engineer" lots of people on the admin chain.

No "expert" will have the free time to come teach you. they'd be so busy if there were truly experts.
They'd be so busy, if they have kids, they won't even have time to play with them.
You have to learn on your own or go to college of some sorts . . when you're at a comfortable playing field, you will learn the rest on the job
from "experts" whose remuneration includes sharpening the skills of their newly-employed hands.
Cheers.
ProgrammingRe: I Need Someone To Teach Me Hacking by cixak95211: 11:22am On Aug 04, 2020
hackers are not prevalent in this part of the world cos most corporations outsource their server needs to ready-made corps.
if i want to deploy a bank app, i would entrust it to a hardened server in either GCP, AWS or Azure.
So any hacker who dreams of hacking me, from the outside, will have to first contend with breaking the security implemented by those guys which are top-notch. They are billion dollar corporations and have the best hands.

The day local corporations start to heavily invest on on-premise solutions, then they will take penestration testing and all seriously, cos they have to invest in security themselves.

By the ways its, called white hat and black hat . . not white and/or black

Of course, it's only ideal that they use the same password encryption to prevent users from getting irate.
I dont know what your encrpption method is, but if you are using RS256 which requires public-private key-pair, then its stongly recommend that you rotate them after the backup. The same goes for drive encryption i.e. if your files are encrypted with a CSK [customer supplied key]
The only downsides are.
1. Your users will have to login again if the keypairs are rotated, even if the current user just logged in 2 seconds ago.
2. If you goof while rotating your CSKs, then kiss your files goodbye . . . although, i stongly believe you did not implement it.

I don't have up to 1 million subscribers but I have 590k and it's a social networking website so users upload pictures, videos, status, everyday thus 45gb....i have more than enough disk space to run the website for the next 5 years but issue is when situations like this happen and you want to backup database then restore. I'm not lookin to backup the entire database. I'm only looking to backup my members accounts. Getting contents is pretty issue but I can't afford to lose 590k accounts cuz in the end, only 20% will bother to re-register to the platform..
You just buttressed my point. The architecture is seriously flawed. When your app deals with images, videos etc, you contract that aspect to an external storage service and why? It makes the database very lean and performant, cos it will only save text and resource URI (text, once again). This way, if you need to do a backup or migration, you are migrating very very lean content, since the media assets themselves are constant and in an external reserve, they dont change. You could even switch drivers e.g from Mysql to Cassandra and the media assets remain the same. But now, saving your binary data to your DB, imagine you have 2 TB of data, how do you migrate, cos it has to be done at once. And cannot be cronned?
If the concerns were seperated e.g. main DB, 1GB, Media assets, 44GB, you can migrate 1gb in seconds, and do a cron job to migrate 45 later as a background process, that is even if you were willing to switch storage providers. Without stretching it too far, your backup/migration can be done. Just contract it somebody who knows his onions, simple! Its the easiest thing to do compared to other aspects of DB management.
