What is truly amazing is that Obiano insists on the best quality international airport to bequeath his state!

No shortcuts or shoddy jobs are acceptable!

Truly, this airport should be named Chief Willie Obiano International Passenger/Cargo Airport to thank this great son of Igboland!

God bless Gov. Willie Obiano!

God bless Prof. Charles SOLUDO!

God bless Anambra State!

God bless Nigeria and give her a fair governance structure to save her from her problems!
Truly, the airport deserves to be named after him to thank him for the fantastic job that he did! Like the Imo airport, Akwa Ibom airport etc.

I'm still shocked at how quickly he built this facility and without cutting corners! My state with a budget that is almost 4 times of Anambra's budget took almost 10 years to build one in Asaba. Not to mention that we didn't build a dual-carriage access way, water systems, dedicated power lines, toll gate etc! I still wonder what Uduaghan was doing constructing Asaba airport for the whole 8 years he was in power! Though i still thank him for building it at all. But now that i know it could be done quicker, i have been wondering why it took us 10 years to achieve.

Demonic night owl (mktinsight) hear it once again, Anambra international airport is a world class facility and the best airport in Nigeria aside Abuja and Lagos

While the mega airport project is ongoing, our roads in our cities of Awka, Onitsha and most parts of Anambra are being maintained. We don't need your demonic validation to know that Anambra international airport is worldclass. Take back your useless sadistic input.

He is talking about 2 avio bridges? How many international airports in Nigeria have avio-bridges apart from Lagos and Abuja? In fact, those that have don't have more than 2 avio bridges. Meanwhile, a second terminal is highly likely in this airport after less than 2 years of operation. I totally enjoy that this airport is killing him grin grin grin grin

All they need to get the airport operational is to get water, electricity and chairs in the terminal building.

All others as escalators, luggage carousel etc can be gradually installed while the airport operates once daily flights to Lagos and Abuja.

It is likely the flight will be by E145 airplane with a maximum capacity of 50 passengers. This is a small manageable number that can be serviced without luggage carousel or huge number of staff

Craneburg is an engineering giant. They did quality beautiful projects at Anambra international airport. Their entry into Nigeria is a good one.
Hopefully, they will get someone to plant grass and landscape the whole area properly. It will be a good project to offer some village farmers to uproot grass from somewhere around their farms and transplant the grass in these open spaces around the runway. The current rainy season will ensure the grasses take root and survive. Finishing is very important in projects like this to bring them to the proper international standard seen abroad.

You can only notice tire marks on the shoulder of the runway. However, it's quite gratifying that they don't drive cars on the main runway. So as not to clog it up with sand deposits from muddy car tires driving on it.

It's very heartwarming that they make effort to prevent cars from driving on the runway. Especially cars with muddy tires that leave sand deposits on the runway. I'm quite happy to see that they are protecting the runway even when it's not currently used daily. It is still clear of sand and debris.

PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by cjrane:
ChimaAdeoye:
When the Chinese consortium pulled out of this project, I totally lost hope that it could ever be built.
In fact, I opposed every idea of building it because judging from the mentality of the average southeast governor to do some type of low-quality project just to say they have built an "airport" and considering the paltry level of funding available to the southeast states, in relation to what will be required to build an international standard airport, I considered it a mission impossible. Yet, from what Obiano did at Agulu Lake hotel, the three Awka flyovers, multiple bridges, and completion of Onitsha mall etc, I knew there was something different about Obiano's capacity to deliver projects.

Alas! Obiano launched the airport in early 2020 and simply kept his work more or less unexposed to the media. Obiano was quoted as pleading with Alhaji Hadi Sirika to make space in his calendar to attend the test flight in April, 2021! He also told the Minister that he was at his office to seek other technical assistance, NCAA guidance and not to ask for money for the airport project! At that point, I thought this "airport" would be a tiny aerodrome of about 1.5 KM runway, with the ATC tower mounted on top of the tiny terminal building. However, two respected individuals in the aviation business; Femi Fani Kayode and Allen Onyema granted interviews where they both mentioned that the airport was indeed being built to true international quality and standard! I didn't know if I should believe them or not. However, since they went with the governor's entourage I chose to take their words with a grain of salt. They could just be trying to be "politically correct" by exaggerating what they saw.

In fact, I didn't even want to know what was going on there because I thought it would resemble the picture below of "what Obiano was expected to build". My first true expose was from two youtube videos from NedMedia and Ebo Media respectively. I was shocked that Obiano was indeed seriously building a 3.7 KM runway, had already completed a 300M by 200M tarmac, about to complete an 11 storey all-concrete- ATC tower, terminal building, ~750 car park, and many other facilities SIMULTANEOUSLY! It totally blew me away! How did he do it? More importantly, how come he didn't do a shoddy project like typical southeast governors would? Just to then turn around and claim they "saved" N1 billion naira after building a shameful airport. I was totally dumbfounded after watching those youtube videos. In fact, I got angry at my friends at Njenje Media for giving the airport somewhat bad press as though it was all a fluke and nothing was indeed happening.
[/i]

Today, Obiano has clearly written his name in gold! Not just that he fulfilled a dream of an Anambra airport planned since 1982 during President Shehu Shagari's era (Onitsha airport), followed by Gov. Ezeife's Oba airport project in the 1990s. Obiano went the extra mile to make sure he built a truly world-standard international airport that can compete with similar facilities globally. He also insisted on the appropriate state-of-the-art navigational equipment, including ILS Cat 2 and runway lighting systems! Not to mention building its own water supply systems and state-of-the-art fire station for the airport. Obiano went the extra mile of building a new dual-carriage accessway with bridges in line with the tradition of linking international airports with dual carriage main access roads. Truly, if a future Anambra governor names this airport Chief Willie Obiano International Cargo/Passenger airport, it would be a deserving "Thank you" from Anambra people for not just achieving this lifelong aspiration at the highest truly -international standard, but for the numerous other achievements that Obiano achieved as a governor. Despite the harsh economic challenges during his tenure.

One final thing is that Obiano should remember that this project was promised with an "Airport City" to drive the new Anambra economy. This Airport city would definitely help create world-class modern areas where international companies could be attracted to the state to build their own offices because the entire area is well-planned. Similar to how Abuja was able to attract businesses from Lagos simply for being a well-planned purpose-built city. Obiano's economic and physical development planning team should get together and plan how they could partner with reputable and well-resourced private real-estate companies to gradually begin a phased development of the airport city. This will definitely attract a whole lot of aviation-based companies, hospitality global hotels brands to invest within the airport city. Thus boosting revenue and creating jobs. The beauty of it all is that the state does not need to invest its own funds in building this airport city if it could work out a good MOU agreement with private real-estate investors to do it.
The media blackout in 2020 helped to reduce unnecessary drama and for the airport delivery team to concentrate on their job.
Although criticized at the time, it was a masterstroke to prevent unscrupulous people from accessing the area to create mischief.

However, the most important thing now is for Anambra to select another technocrat like Prof. Charles Soludo to succeed Obiano. Else, Anambra could return to the dark days when common criminals and thieves simply brought the state to its knees. The fight for Anambra people now is to ensure their state does not fall into the hands of these criminals who are already plotting how to use INEC to falsify fake results and bring about the Hope Uzodinma supreme-court formula to Anambra state.

The time has come to begin landscaping by planting grass on the open spaces around the runway, taxiway, and apron. Finishing is very important in this project. Efforts should be made to make it the world standard which is obviously the goal of the airport builder.

The only reason this Fulani Federal Government is robbing Nigeria and paying the money as "ransom" to these Fulani thugs is to quietly transfer Nigeria's wealth to Fulanis.

Their top agenda now is how to kill off Hausa residents in some far-northern states so that they can have pure 100% Fulani states in Nigeria. That is why you hear about the slaughter of native people in Zamfara and others, without the Fulani government doing anything to save the people.

He truly hoped and prayed that Obiano would build a mediocre project. But was soooo disappointed. grin grin grin
But why do they allow people to drive private cars on the runway? The runway should not just be smooth, it must be free of any debris or excess sand that could be sucked into a jet's engine and impair its performance.

We are in a culture without street-sweeping vehicles to sweep off the sand left on the runway. So every effort must be made to ensure that excess sand does not get or build upon the runway.

Even the Governor's entourage now drives beside the runway instead of on the runway. So that they will reduce the chance of leaving sand on the runway. They shouldn't let private people bring cars on the runway.
Although a runway is made of asphalt surface which resembles a road, it's actually not a road to be driven upon by cars with potentially sandy or even muddy tires. It's exclusively meant for airplanes and without the risk of sand being sucked in a jet's engine during takeoff.

Anambra State Government Marks Structures Erected along Airport Road, Nteje

Following the directive by the Anambra state government that nobody should erect any structure within 100 meters from
the airport dual carriageway in Nteje, officials of Anambra state Physical Planning Board are presently at the location
marking all the structures erected along the road.
ANSPPB officials led by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Barr Chukwunweike Francis Maduekwe equally dropped
notices for developers to immediately remove the structures or have the Board pull them down in the coming days.
This is excellent. The government said no structure should be built 100 meters from the road, why is that so difficult to obey? Nigerians are the WORST group of people that detest any planned, decent development. Why can't they simply observe the rule and also get their building plan lawfully approved?

When that place was a forest, they did not want to buy the land nor build their shops there. But as soon as the government spent billions to build a dual carriageway to the new airport, they will swarm the place and frantically begin erecting illegal structures and shops to frustrate the emergence of the place as a traffic-free, decent, well-planned boulevard in the state.

Why it is so hard for people to respect the law and follow laid down rules & regulations still baffles me.

What kills them is that they thought the usual shoddy way that southeast governors typically built the worst quality facility in the region would apply here.

The average mentality of a southeast governor is that standard world-class facilities should only be found in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt. While anything in the southeast region should be a village standard facility.

Obiano totally shocked them in this project! Not just that he built a standard dual-carriage accessway as is the standard globally, he built a standard toll gatehouse, water systems, dedicated power access, control tower, terminal building, parking lot for hundreds of cars, and a runway of a whopping 3.7KM! Not to mention ILS and CAT 2 night landing lights, CAT 9 Fire station with truly modern plane crash fire fighting trucks/ equipment, medical facility, and even spaces for MRO and Nigerian airforce base!

They are still dazed how Obiano had the guts and determination to deliver a truly global-QUALITY facility that none of them expected in this clime.
GBAM!
Truly, Obiano has done what Napoleon could not. I don't even know where he got the money to execute this project!
My state is oil-rich, yet it took us more than 12 years to build a standard airport with a smaller apron and shorter tower, and shorter runway!

As you mentioned, he surprised many (including me) by departing from the usual low-quality projects we have come to associate with southeast state governments. I was also pleasantly surprised that he went for a CAT 9 fire station, ILS systems, and CAT II navigational systems. Anambra is lucky to have someone who is determined to give them a standard facility. I think they should name the airport after him just to say Thank You for giving the state such a wonderful high quality aviation facility.

I heard the Igalas are also seriously pushing for the award of the Idah - Aguleri federal road which the FG has been foot-dragging for a long time. A distance of about just 85KM!
When that road is completed, Idah would be only a 45 minute - 1-hour drive from this airport. Which would truly make accessing Idah and other parts of the Igala nation within just 1 hour from Lagos, Abuja, or other parts of the world.

With the completion of Idah- Aguleri road, in fact, this airport would be more accessible for someone living in Idah than someone living in Ihiala! This would be a huge game-changer and a massive investment boost for the Igala nation.
Senator Smart Adeyemi knew what he was talking about when he told Obiano that what he was doing at the airport was not only to benefit Anambra state but will benefit other citizens of the southeast and other neighboring states in Nigeria.

The Senator knew very well that some communities were so far away from the state capitals that the closest facilities to them would be this airport. For instance, Kogi state is bigger than the entire southeast. Even if an airport is built in Lokoja, this airport would still be closer to people in the entire southern part of Kogi.

Great progress of work on the completion of the interior of the terminal building, and installation of CAT 2 ILS and runway Lighting. They truly want to build a world-class airport facility. The terminal building is already looking like modern airport terminals that one sees in Europe and America.

I was so glad to observe that they are no longer driving cars with mud tires on the runway and apron. It builds up sand on the runway and apron which could be sucked into jet engines causing issues.

One hopes they will soon restrict the runway and apron such that only the construction companies will have access to these sensitive areas of the airport. The construction companies are also advised to be mindful not to buildup sand on the runway or apron with their trucks. Or, they will be responsible for sweeping the runway and apron after their construction to ensure they are totally free of sand or debris like sachet water packets.

Immigration Provost Shot Dead In Imo

Mon May 31 2021

Chief Provost of Nigerian Immigration Service in Imo, Okiemute Mrere, has been killed.

Mrere was killed on Saturday night on Owerri- Port Harcourt Road in Owerri and his body discovered in a bush on Sunday morning.

Mrere was said to be riding an Immigrations Hilux van when he was intercepted by his assailants and shot at close range.

No valuable was taken from the van—his service pistol was found on him when his body was discovered the next day.

The official Hilux van he was riding in as of the time he was attacked was said to be riddled with bullets.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Winifred Oguh said the command was yet to get full details and was still investigating the incident.

She said, “Yes I can confirm to you that we lost one of our officers, Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI) Okiemute Mrere.

“We are yet to get full details of the incident as investigations are still ongoing.

The incident is one of high profile killings in the state in the last 72 hours.

A former presidential aide, Ahmed Gulak, was killed same day by gunmen on his way to Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport to catch a flight to Abuja.
