I don't think the steel pillars will be exposed, some of them have been covered with claddings, as seen in the image below
If they can cover those steel pillars with claddings, that would really be nice. One of the things I loved about Ebonyi mall was how they used the pillars as beautification items. They even painted the pillars in multiple bright colors to look purely like decoration items and not even structural pillars critical for supporting the building. I think that is part of the Umahi genius and excellent finishing touches in his projects. I think that is what wows people about Umahi's projects at all.

Undoubtedly, it is clear that Obiano also loves to give excellent finishing touches to his projects. You've got to give that one to him. Look at the finishing at Agulu Lake hotel and the finishing with the control tower of this airport. So there is hope that he would not accept shoddy-looking pillars with their exposed welded joints showing like skeletons after the interior of the terminal building is completed. That would really rob the whole effort invested to build a spectacular terminal building.

But good finishing has always been the problem of 3rd world countries' project engineers. Many of the project supervisors don't usually bother about aesthetics in Africa, which is so sad considering the amount of money spent on those projects.

Hopefully, the disabled ramp also looks like this. With round pillars encapsulating the exposed steel pillars.

I also love that they intend to decorate with native artwork and paint the interior white to maximize illumination and create a calm and clean ambiance as observed in airports abroad.
It would be desirable to have the steel pillars covered up to improve the general appearance of the interior. But I doubt they will do it. I think they will incorporate walls between steel pillars but those in places where walls aren't needed will just stay as bare steel bars. Perhaps it will be painted to make it more appealing to the eye. For the most part, in this part of the world, we don't go into that amount of detail because of aesthetics.

One hopes that Obiano remembers that this project was both for an international airport and an airport city project.

The airport city will accelerate international standard physical development and attract international companies to Anambra as much as the international airport itself.

The best part is that the airport city will not cost the state one kobo. All they need is to sign the MOU with a reputable realtor company and another Awka Millenium city will berth at the new airport city site.

Police Arrest Two Northerners Behind Recent Attacks In Imo

The two suspects are identified as Godwin Danladu and Bamaiyi Gada, according to Igbere TV, as the police confirmed that its operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle from the suspects.

The Imo State Police Command has arrested two gunmen who are alleged to be among the unknown gunmen causing crisis in the state in recent times.

The two suspects are identified as Godwin Danladu and Bamaiyi Gada, according to Igbere TV, as the police confirmed that its operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle from the suspects.

The two men, who hail from the North-West region, were also nabbed with military uniforms.

Imo State with adjoining South-East states have been at the centre of violence for months following unprovoked gunmen attacks on police and other security establishments which have led to confusion in the region.

SaharaReporters had on May 3 reported that policemen deployed to the South-East states were deserting their stations, and now preferred to go to work in mufti due to the pervading attacks.

It had been reported that most policemen, particularly those who are not Igbo indigenes, are desperately seeking redeployments amidst fear of the incessant attacks by “unknown gunmen.”

SaharaReporters had on April 19 reported that most policemen in Abia wear mufti, after heavily armed men attacked Uzuakoli Police Station in the Bende Local Government Area in a string of other attacks on other stations.

Investigations revealed that the officers are seeking to be deployed to investigating units such as the Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit, and special Squad.

It was also learnt that the affected personnel are currently meeting with their contacts within and outside the state and are willing to pay for their redeployment to be granted due to the fear of unknown gunmen.

While some senior officers believe that the officers should remain in the state to tackle the insecurity, others have already reached out to the police high command in a bid to facilitate the deployment.

Some of the officers also based their request on the need to be reunited with members of their families.

Everyone knows that the so-called Unknown Gunmen are agents of the Federal Government of Nigeria to pursue their nefarious agenda for the Southeast and south south regions of the country. In the end, they will still fail.

At the point where the dual carriage airport road starts from the Enugu - Onitsha expressway, I wish we could put a solid airport sign built with blocks on bricks background, as we find abroad. Instead of the usual ugly corrugated iron sheet, we use as signboards in Nigeria. Which after a few months rust and become an eyesore.

These signs are also artwork that helps to beautify a city and a state by creating landmark junctions. Let this airport truly introduce new and better ways of doing things to the highest quality instead of our local ways of doing everything to be the lowest quality in the world.
I prefer the Region of Waterloo International airport road sign. But it will obviously require good craftmanship to deliver quickly.

But the Dayton International airport sign is something that can be easily replicated without much financial burden. I am hoping that they use such a sign to beautify the road junction where the airport main access dual carriageway begins from the Awka - Onitsha expressway.

There is NO REASON you guys should not be happy for Anambra, just as Anambra people will also rejoice with Ebonyians when Umahi completes his airport.

Actually, the greatest painful shock among haters of Anambra in particular and Igboland, in general, is the God's speed this project was achieved. They hoped that in the usual Nigerian way of slowing a project down in order to call for contract re-appraisal and review to steal money, the project would not be completed.

They were wrong! Obiano was interested in writing his name in platinum in the history of Anambra state than stealing a few millions that will finish before the 3rd year after he left office.

I am so glad that Obiano mobilized his men and his resources to not just do a very high-quality project, but complete it in record time! Even if it meant no avenue for kickbacks through contract reviews. That is Witches story now is that Obiano squandered some $2 billion DOLLARS given to him by some GHOST. The inside of the terminal building is also being completed aggressively. I hope they will add some touch of class by using brown bricks on sections of some walls inside the terminal building, instead of just using paint all over the walls. Red or Brown indoor Bricks on some walls in an international airport also give it a unique touch of class. Even if its just using bricks for half of the walls in some areas.

The water treatment plant is quite massive and capable of taking care of all water needs of the airport!

The next recession will be the worst ever in Nigeria history. Predictably, by Q2 of 2021, Nigeria will slide into her 4th recession, all under Buhari's government. This is a fact looming on our faces, if you blink, you are economically deseased.
By the mid-Q2, $1 is projected to hit N750, CBN cannot hold it as our import dependence cannot be supported by oil and gas earning. Then FG and CBN will have no option than to redenominate the Naira, such that the new Naira would be equivalence of US$50. However, your Naira in your bank would be devalued by 500%. Say you had N500,000, you will get N1000 new Naira That is not the problem. The problem is that the new Naira would become eroded in a year or 2, because the productive capacity of the economy is weak and our consumption will remain higher than production. Hence as an import dependent economy the new Naira will become worthless again. Unfortunately, our minister of Finance only knows how to borrow. Our debt servicing (not repayment) would swallow up non oil earning. Already states are already finding it difficult to pay salaries. Printing of currency would exercebate the already inflationary trend, leading to hyper-inflation. Government may clamp down on BDCs in her desperation, not minding the operators are Hausa/Fulanis.
The signs are everywhere now. Already some banks have pegged $ deposit to only $5k a month, this is to reduce amount of Fx people are buying and reduce the exhange pressure on few dollars coming in.
For you and I, the only option for self preservation is to save our money in Dollars or Pound Sterling.
A word they say is enough for the wise!
Those who have ears will listen.
But there are those who perpetually stay deceived by fake government assurances and lies told by politicians that will be impoverished overnight by the coming huge depreciation of the naira.

Even saving your money in Ghana Cedis now is better than leaving your huge operational savings in naira. Even our thieving politicians quickly convert their money into dollars, Renminbi and Euros.

South can definitely be one country if it has a CONFEDERAL CONSTITUTIONAL arrangement.

Everyone has observed with horror how the Fulani completely seized Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, DSS and Nigerian airforce and used them as terror organizations to slaughter other Nigerians. It is totally plausible and expected that Nigeria would not like the southeast zone to have a credible international gateway. Afterall, in the previous years, the same country has left no stone unturned to frustrate and prevent the proper development of Akanu Ibiam International airport to meet the standard of Lagos, Kano, and Abuja international airports. The "excuse" all this time had been that the Federal Government was not against an international airport in the Southeast region, but lacked the resources to build a befitting one for the region. Their thinking was that southeast governors were totally useless and greedy to embark on the heavily capital-intensive project of building a truly international standard airport based on their meager resources.

However, as his name indicates, Obiano (four hearts) is a man with the bravery of a tiger. Remember Obiano was the first southeast governor to dare building flyovers to decongest the traffic snarl in Awka. In fact when he started three flyovers simultaneously many called him a fool because they didn't believe a southeast state could build one flyover, talk more of three flyovers at the same time! Again, Obiano pleasantly proved us all to be wrong and completed the three flyovers within a record 2 and half years! Thus, he encouraged other southeast states including Rochas, Umahi and Ikpeazu to try and build flyovers in critical traffic junctions of their state.

I remember when Akanu Ibiam International airport was shut down in 2019 and remained shut down for more than 1 year just to resurface a 3KM runway! So when Obiano indicated that Anambra International airport's runway would be 3.7 KM by 60 meters wide and built to the highest international grade to ensure jumbo cargo jets as Airbus A380 and B747 could easily land and takeoff from the airport, almost everyone laughed at this dreamer governor! I doubted Obiano's determination and ability to complete the project so much that I strongly protested investing scarce resources in a project that would end up being abandoned! You can scroll back on my 2019 posts here and see my vehement protests then because i doubted that Obiano would somehow find the resources to execute such a massive gigantic project required for a truly international cargo airport. I never knew the man called Obiano was indeed a lion with 4 hearts! To add to our fears, Obiano announced that he would build 3 access roads to the airport. One would link the 33 road (Onitsha - Agulari road) at Nsugbe, the other would be the main access dual-carriageway from the Enugu- Onitsha expressway and the third would link from the Nteje - Umueri road by the Marist brothers school.

Today to our awesome amazement, Governor Willie Obiano has indeed completed all he promised to do without borrowing from any bank! The airport is slated to receive its first test run flight on April 30th, 2021! Despite Gov. Willie Obiano's good relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari and his Aviation Minister Alhaji Hadi Sirika, it is obvious that the hawks who had plotted to keep the southeast zone in stone age through denying it the benefits of international aviation would still try and throw obstacles towards this project. Nobody should be deceived to expect anything less because we all know that the anti-Igbo elements are alive and well in Nigeria. However, it should not deter the government from developing this airport to the highest standard of an international airport. No matter who tries to throw obstacles towards its eventual international cargo flights' license as previously approved is only fighting a losing battle. The airport is already born and a living reality today. To attain its natural use as an international cargo airport is merely a question of when not if.
Well, Obiano diligently followed all the consultations during the construction and complied with all the NCAA directives on the project despite the huge financial burden to comply with the NCAA requirements to meet an international airport standard.

Besides, Obiano is a bosom friend of Buhari. Whom he supported openly in 2014 and again in 2019. The issue is that we do know that there are indeed serious anti-Igbo forces who are hell-bent on keeping the southeast backward and undeveloped in Nigeria. So as we know this is fake news, we should be mindful that such people exist at all levels within the Federal government of Nigeria.

One funny thing about bloodshed is that it is not one sided. You think youths that have been so marginalized, brutalized by the Nigerian security forces and angered to take the fight to the Police and army are afraid of being killed? No! Their aim is to kill and be killed if need be. They are actually doing everything possible to bring the so called war today and not tomorrow.

His Majesty the Former Emir of Kano Lamido Sanusi warned us all about a day like this by continuing to treat youths who never fought any war against Nigeria for the "sins" of their grand parents. What you are doing is that one day, you will convince them that it is better to fight their own war and be free than to stay as a slave perpetually even when they never fought any war. The sad part of it all is that they know Nigeria does not have what it takes to defeat them. They are not only well resourced around the world, they have managed to get the international community to see their reason why they will pick up arms as a last resort after being unnecessarily killed for too many years protesting as unarmed citizens.

Those who make a peaceful change impossible, make a violent revolution inevitable ~ John F. Kennedy.

The way some people are attacking the Chief Willie Obiano International Airport Umueri, it is clear that they are worried about the continued viability of nearby airports which depends a lot on wealthy Anambra customers to survive. Without federal funding, only the airport in Umueri and that in Port Harcourt can survive solely on customer patronage as far as SE/SS is concerned. But a time will come when the federal government will even abandon those airports and hand them back to states as plummeting revenues will cause the financial chokehold on the federal government to become unbearable. That's when neighbouring states will start traveling to Anambra for their International flights.
Exactly! I have not seen one person that said their anger with this airport is because it was not viable. Their argument is typically, but there is an airport in Lagos, there is an airport in Enugu, Port Harcourt, Owerri and Asaba.

Even though Asaba airport belongs to my state, I have lived so many years abroad to understand that the presence of a standard airport in Anambra complements it. For example, La Guardia and Newark airports in USA would have been nothing if there were no JFK. It is a result of insufficient landing slot at JFK that airlines go the La Guardia and Newark as alternative airports for those flying to New York. The same way Sharjah airport in UAE would have been totally unviable without the nearby Dubai airport that they complement each other. Just as Gatwick airport would have been nothing without Heathrow airport.

What happens is that as airports begin to grow, airlines look for nearby cities where they can land and still put their passengers within the vicinity of the market they are accessing. Without having to wait for hours for their passengers to disembark because the 3 luggage claim carousel is too small and the airport officials, airport staff and immigration are too few and cannot handle the previous 500 passengers that landed before them. We know that no airport in Nigeria can handle the volume of passengers when 3 airbus A380 planes land there in a space of 3 hours! Therefore, as the population of Nigeria continues to grow, major airlines begin to access nearby international airports where they can use and still land their passengers close enough to the location they desire. What i have explained here is unfathomable to a typical average Nigerian who has never lived abroad. But it is indeed how airlines choose their routes and what eventually plays out all the time in international civil aviation.
