I am about to apply for my canadian visa too. when you say birth tourism, do you mean medical visa/ or declared in your visa that you were going to give birth?

Please around what period did you apply for your visa?

On the application space for reason for Visa. I selected others and typed in birth tourism.I applied in late july

I had my first in the US and had a valid visa. So when I took in a second time I was ready to travel but on the second thought I wanted to spend a while in the country and decided to renew before traveling lo and behold I was denied.
Fast forward to applying for a Canadian visa within a space of 2 months before it won't be safe to fly. We filled the form went to drop it off and ended up spending the whole day because of a lot of mistakes. To be clear we declared birth tourism, admitted to being rejected a visa for US and attached so many documents. Prayed and kept our fingers crossed while making arrangements that worst case baby would be born in Nigeria (after all I was born here).
To our greatest surprise 20 days later got the email for pick up and visa was approved.
The Search began.
At this point we didn't have any information and the thread was not as informative as I wanted (yes I like eating my cake easily ). However we had family in Saskatchewan but when I heard the flight time,weather, no doctor was responding to my emails or calls, rejecting international patients and the family had so much going on in their life, I decided to look elsewhere.
I visited a maternity service provider here and she sounded nice also showed me her package for Ontario which looked reasonable to me.the big huddle was getting my hubby to agree to which he had his skepticism. He did a lot of research called and emailed a lot of doctors in the Ontario area mind u unlike the US system where anyone can have access to gynecologists the case is different for the Canada system. You would need to get a referral from a family doctor after the first 3 months before a gynecologist would accept you. So we had that challenge however we were able to get 3 doctors to give a partial acceptance, send their bill via email but only one was willing to give an appointment date.
Looking for accommodation became the next problem most homeowners didn't want a pregnant foreign woman without ties in their home and Airbnb we couldn't get any child friendly at a reasonable price.
Fast forward to the night before our flight, I was able to get my husband partial consent to engage the service provider here. I paid her that night and got her agent's name and number.
THE JOURNEY BEGAN.
Left Nigeria had a 12 hour layover and got into Canada. Filled the landing card,used the automated machine and proceeded to the immigration officer. The conversation was as follows
Me:Good evening.
Officer:Good evening. Welcome to Canada. Can I have your passport.
She went through and was like what are you in Canada for.
Me: to give birth.
She paused looked at me and typed something in her computer.
Officer: looking at my landing card. She was like u have an excess of 10k canadia dollars in cash.
Me:no some cash,most in cards.
Officer: then you don't have an excess of 10k.
Me: Sorry.
Officer: Do you know that its very expensive giving birth here and do you have a doctor.
Me: yes and I came financially prepared based on my research. I also have 3 doctors shortlisted and willing to accept me once am in the country . I would settle based on final cost reduction.
Officer: types and handed over passport. Congratulations in advance (with a smile).
Went to a hotel cooled off,slept,showered and ate.
Moved into the accommodation arranged by the service provider (story for another day).Used a doctor in Toronto arranged by the service provider
COST BREAKDOWN.
Doctor :1320
Doctor visit: 30$ per visit(had a total of 5)
Hospital mother: 2620(per day)
Hospital baby:850(per day)
To be paid in full before delivery day.
Ended up having a CS so paid Doctor an extra 1250,anathestia 1000 ,spent 3 days in the hospital, pediatrician asked for 350(but ended up taking 100) Family doctor for referral (60).

BABY DOCUMENTS
Hmmmm Canada post was on strike so it was a mess. Took 15 plus days to get birth certificate and registration even with the expedited which cost 35$(excluding money spent to fax,call,email and Express mails).
Passport was expedited also with proof of travel and cost 110$. Called the airline added baby to ticket and applied for Visa on arrival (NB: cash,Nigerian cards not accepted only accept foreign cards)

Two years ago, I was working on a project with some of my course mates and we had few hours to put together a powerpoint presentation for the next day. This required we work late into the night so we agreed to meet in a friend’s apartment which was off campus.
By midnight we were done with the presentation but couldn’t leave as the gates were locked and there was an 11pm curfew in that part of town. Instead of going to bed so that we could wake up early the next day, we started behaving badly, gossiping about girls and all sorts.
Our host decided to add to the entertainment as he produced a half empty bottle of vodka from some discreet corner of the room. We poured, diluted, mixed, clinked paper cups and continued our merry making. Our host held up the almost empty bottle of vodka and dared any of us to finish the drink at once for 1000 naira. My friends were hesitant but I, being the champion alcoholic of the group as well as the most foolish, I snatched the bottle and amidst cheers downed the entire content liquid, heat and sting in one humbling gulp. It burnt my throat but I got the cash. Immediately I felt the room spin and voices fading. I found a comfortable corner in the room and laid down quietly.
I was having one of those out of body experience where I could see myself standing over the toilet bowl but could feel something warm running down my thighs. I jerked back abruptly in alarm but slammed into the wall behind me as I opened my eyes, then it dawned on me. I ran my hands down my legs, the joggers I had on was wet and the rug was also wet.
Luckily the room was dimly lit from the lone bulb in the corridor. I stared at the ceiling for some minutes, different thoughts ran through my mind, I didn’t want my friends to know otherwise every single argument that comes thereafter would be won with that single phrase “bed wetter”. What if I decide to run for president? I could be blackmailed with this.
I scanned the room, my friends were fast asleep, thanks to the alcohol. I tip toed to the part of the room where I had kept my bag and put my soiled trousers inside while I put on the ironed clean trousers I had brought with me classes. I went over to where our host was sleeping and rolled him like a log of wood to my wet spot. He was a deep sleeper so it was easy. I proceeded to move another friend to the spot our host just vacated my heart stopped momentarily as he opened his eyes and mumbled some random words.
I quietly laid down on the newly vacant spot as mischievous thoughts ran through my mind until i fell asleep.
The next day, we woke up to a large map of urine under my befuddled friend who became increasingly glum as some of us made fun of him. we all started raining insults at him. It was obvious that our host had woken up early to roll our second friend to the spot where I had done my business.
He wasn’t aware I knew, and of course no one knew who the real culprit was, well we continued to tease our unfortunate friend with the incident and it felt good.
I hope he forgives us when he reads this.

SAP means Students Aguru Period, Igbos will understand the slang. It mean Students Hunger Period, because the school term is about to end and mostly at this point in time we've run out of resources, and only very few would be financially buoyant.

It was break time, and I was in front of the canteen, and some people were going in buying stuff and snacking on them, and back then if you buy a bottle of drink the canteen attendants will hold onto your balance until you return the bottle.

While I was standing there hungry, I had an exciting idea. "These guys don't write down your name if they owe you balance."

I rushed to the back of the PTA hall, under it's staircase were a pile of empty bottles, I selected one, went to the water tap and washed it thoroughly, then went after a guy in my class who was drinking a bottle of coke, I begged him to pour me some inside the bottle, he obliged, I walked out, went to a quiet place and started shaking the content of the bottle until it looked and smelled of coke, freshly consumed.

Then I went to the canteen woman, and demanded for ₦450 balance, she asked me what I bought, I told her that I gave her ₦500 note, and bought ₦20 worth of biscuits, and ₦30 bottle of coke, she gave me the balance without any hassle.

...and that was how I got ₦450 into my dry pockets, and got my arse out of SAP. ₦450 was a lot of money back then.


Hunger is bad, it can wake up a dormant scheming, dangerous part of a nigga. After that day I never tried it again, I guess I lost my fear because I was hungry and needed to survive.

Don't know about your department. But I submitted my print out to my department where I was asked to write down my name on a list with other names. Even the people I met while looking for PQ asked me to submit to the department. Maybe you should verify
