PoliticsGovernor Fayose Hits At Buhari 2 Days After Meeting President by ClintGist(op): 10:51pm On Feb 24, 2018
https://www.clintgist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Buhari-Fayose.jpg

Governo Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state has blasted President Muhammadu Buhari again barely two days after meeting him in Abuja.
The governor blamed the president for what he termed his inability to curb the insecurity and economic problems in the country.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Lere Olayinka, the governor said the abduction of 105 pupils of Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe state and Nigeria’s regression in Transparency International’s perception of corruption report were further proof that the president needs to “take a bow”.

He said: “President Buhari promised Nigerians that he will bring back the missing Chibok Girls and defeat Boko Haram within three months. After more than 32 months in office, Boko Haram is still killing Nigerians, with herdsmen also on killing spree.

“Painfully, the same Boko Haram they claimed to have defeated suddenly became strong enough to kidnap over 100 students. Now, Nigeria is not only looking for the remaining Chibok Girls, another over 100 innocent students have joined, this is unacceptable.

“Funny enough, a few days ago, the President called on all Nigerians to be prepared to pay the ‘ultimate price’ for the progress and unity of the nation and I wish to ask him what other price he wants Nigerians to pay.

“Already, Nigerians are sacrificing their lives by getting killed while seeking what to eat. Some have even committed suicide. Yet, the same President who is enjoying all the benefits of his office is calling on Nigerians to forego personal pleasures and pay the ultimate price.

Buhari lacks achievement to campaign for a second term
Fayose also said the president has nothing to campaign with ahead of the 2019 elections.

The governor said: “When President Buhari mounts the campaign podium, what will he tell Nigerians? Will he tell Nigerians that corruption and insecurity has not worsened than it was in 2015? Will the President say that Nigerians deserve to be buying petrol that they were buying at N86 per litre in 2015 at N180 now?

“Is President Buhari going to justify that within 30 months, Nigeria’s debt that was N12.06 trillion in 2015 increased by over N10 trillion?

“Fact is that Nigeria is under a rudderless federal government. Everything is now upside down, with everywhere in the country becoming insecure. What Nigerians expect in a situation like this is a clean break from this calamitous government and new breath of life, not continuation of a government lacking a direction.”

CrimeIn Lagos 6 Suspected Cultists Arrested For Gang Raping Students(photos) by ClintGist(op): 8:23am On Feb 23, 2018
Six suspected cultists have been arrested for gang raping three female students in Agarawu, around Lagos Island in Lagos state.

According to Punch, the arrest was made by men of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps.

The suspects allegedly forced the 3 girls to follow them to their hideout, to be initiated into the Eiye Confraternity.

One of the victims, Maryam, said “Dare came to meet me in school with a gun that I should follow him to Agarawu. He said his members were going to initiate me or else he would kill me.

“When we got there, they formed a circle and asked me to kneel down in their midst. They tied my face and sprinkled some things on my body. They asked me to UnCloth and raped me countless times for four days.”

Suspects confess

Punch identified the 6 suspects as: Laguda Kamal, Muyideen Aigoro, Kayode Damilare, Quadri Ajayi, Idoogun Yinusa and Yinka Adewuyi.

Kamal and Quadri reportedly confessed to having fun with the girls, but denied raping them.

Meanwhile, their friend, Damilare denied raping the girls, but said that he witnessed when Wakilu and Yinka gang-raped Maryam.

Cultists graduate to kidnappers

Speaking on the arrest, the Chairman of the Neighbourhood Corps, Israel Ajao said “One of the victims was held for four days. The cat was let out of the bag by a neighbour who reported the matter to the operatives after an alarm by the victim’s mother.

“The corps has been working tirelessly in conjunction with the police, adopting both overt and covert strategies, to ensure that criminals do not have a place in Lagos State.”

From cultism they graduate to kidnapping, rape and other heinous crimes, and that is why we have changed our strategy to focus on cultism.

“We will begin to visit schools to sensitise principals to the need to be conscious of the activities of their pupils,” he added.

Recently, a student of the College of Health Technology, Ijero-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Busayo Kayode, was arrested by the police for allegedly setting up her close friend to be raped by 10 cultists in the school.

CelebritiesThe Full Story Of How Psquare Recorded ‘temptation’, And What Happened To “boom by ClintGist(op): 3:57pm On Feb 22, 2018
The Full Story of How Psquare recorded ‘Temptation’, and what happened to “Boom Boom in your zoom zoom” Alaye

Of all their classic records, one which has survived the test of time and has become one of pop culture’s most inspirational additions is the record ‘Temptation.’ Here is how it was made.

Remember Alaye? The guy who jumped on Psquare’s 2006 classic record, ‘Temptation’, and delivered a rap verse?

Music listeners of an older generation will remember a time when Psquare was the hottest thing Africa had and celebrated. From Ouagadougou to Conakry, Peter and Paul Okoye held pop music on the continent in a chokehold.

Of all their classic records, one which has survived the test of time and has become one of pop culture’s most inspirational additions is the record ‘Temptation.’ Off their 2005 “Get Squared” album, which featured other heavyweight records such as ‘Bizzy body’ and ‘Oga Police’, ‘Temptation’ was right there in the mix.

The record was interesting because it was the first time Psquare had worked with a rapper, an unknown MC from the UK named Alaye.

The UK-born Edo rapper, with a mixed ancestry of Nigeria, Jamaica, and Grenada, met Psquare in London, via his brother-in-law, who was a show promoter.

Alaye’s relative had a show in Berlin, and Psquare were the other ‘African’ musicians billed to perform. During the ride to Germany, they began to have conversations, introducing themselves and their music to each other.

“They played me their music, and I said this is good, they heard my stuff, and said ‘let’s collaborate…That song happened to be ‘Temptation.’ I knew I loved the song, and I happened to drop some incredible bars on that song,” Alaye said via a telephone conversation.

Alaye said both parties didn’t foresee the greatness that the song had, and had no idea of how big the record will become.

“It’s a great song, it’s definitely stood the test of time,” Alaye says. “People walk to me till today, to say “Zoom zoom in your boom boom.”

Where is Alaye Now?

Raised by his Grandmother “Alaye” was a talented sportsman, musician & academic in his early school years his recollections of life comes from the lenses of the unfair distribution of wealth in society.

He wasn’t born into a wealthy family, and that helped shape his decisions in life. Alaye acquired an entrepreneurial spirit and started hustling any and everything in his teen years “to buy the things I couldn’t ask my Grandma for”. With his father seldom around and his mother working and living abroad before her untimely passing left him as guardian for his younger brother & sister. He also became a teen father having a daughter.

With a lot of responsibility on his young shoulders, Alaye got kicked out of college while studying his A-Levels and decided to pursue his dreams to be a Artist/Entrepreneur. He’s since had some success in it. Interestingly, he was the one who discovered singer May D, and hooked him up with Psquare.

After the Psquare record, internet penetration was still inadequate in Nigeria, and a lot of platforms didn’t exist. Music videos and records were the primary source of information in the music industry. Alaye, who was based in the UK, appeared to fall off the radar. But according to him, he never left.

“I’ve been creating and doing music, I never actually stopped. I was like, ‘I need to do it correct.’ I didn’t want to enter the game and disappear. I needed to come with my full catalogue,” he says.

According to Alaye, worked on building businesses, and made enough money “to secure me for life, beyond music.”

He’s also been working in the UK and USA, pushing the African music sound and culture. Between the time when he recorded ‘Temptation’, and 2018, African music has grown, spreading to various parts of the world, and empowering lives both on and off the continent. Alaye says he has been a part of the process, pushing the music from “the back-end.”

“I took Psquare stuff to Universal Music, and told them ‘this is about to be the new wave,’” he says. “They didn’t get it at the time. So when Psquare and D’banj blew up 8 to 10 months later, they were trying to sign these guys.

“What’s happening now is no surprise to me, it was inevitable. I still think we are in our infancy, and but it’s evolving, and the work is locked on to in.”

In 2018, Alaye is ready to return to the music industry. He’s recording numerous songs, and has a plan starting in April, to drop a single every month. He’s created the wealth to set him up for life, now it’s time for him to chase the music.

‘Temptation’ might have introduced him to an older generation of music listeners in Nigeria, but his onslaught to get the attention of the younger crowd will begin with his new records, recorded for a time like this; when he is getting his money, pushing the culture and focused on the music prize.

TV/MoviesBBNaija: "We Didn’t Know That Nigerians Like Sex Like That” - Vandora by ClintGist(op): 8:10am On Feb 22, 2018
Big Brother Naija: “We didn’t know that Nigerians liked sex like that” – Vandora on viewers saving Mina

The first Big Brother Naija eviction show happened on Sunday, February 17, 2018, and the pairs of Van Dee (Vandora and Dee One,) Pritto (Bitto and Princess) were evicted.

Nina and Miracle, who have often been described as a weak pair by other housemates, led the votes with 28.5%. They were followed by Teddy A and Bambam with 21.5%.

The evicted pairs, Van-Dee and Pritto, got the least votes with 2.98% and 3.05%, respectively.

In this interview with Pulse, Vandora shares her reaction when she found out Nigerians saved the romantically involved pair, Mina and Miracle, who most housemates had thought would exit the show first.

The evicted housemates also talked about which pair they had thought would be evicted that Sunday.

Vandora on Nigerians saving Mina

We didn’t know that Nigerians liked sex like that. In terms of conversations and all that, they [Mina] were the most reserved group. But for them to come out on the top just because of that…

People in the house don’t even understand that’s the hierarchy because, in the house, it’s on the flip side.

On which pair they thought would be evicted

Dee One – Mina.

Khloe – Ceebi

Bitto – It was almost a unanimous decision in the house from when we started nominating housemates to be up for eviction that we will put Tobi and Cee C up, and that was for the fact that they had isolated themselves and that was one of the reasons why we lost wagers. So they were the obvious ones people wanted out of the house.

The evicted housemates were up for possible eviction alongside 14 other housemates.

In an interview with Pulse, they also shared who they think should win the Big Brother Naija reality show.

There would be no eviction this week as Biggie is giving viewers enough time to get to know the new #BBNaija pairs.

CelebritiesBanky W Reveals His Plans With Record Label E.M.E by ClintGist(op):
Popular Nigerian musician, Banky W has announced the rebranding of his record label E.M.E. According to him, E.M.E.’s business venture will now be marketing, advertising, public relations, branding, shooting of television commercials and documentaries.

He also added that the agency is not restricted to music artists, but will also cater for creative people in other areas such as sports, radio and television; and acting.

His wife, Adesua Etomi, DJ Xclusive, PEbuka Obi-Uchendu, Host of the BBNaija 2018 `Double Wahala’ TV show and Tolu ‘Toolz’ Oniru have been named as the first set of clients of the rebranded company.

In his words: “We have played our Plittle part in helping discover/boost the careers of a number of talents in the music pbusiness (some of your favourite artists, producers and engineers).

“In January, 2017, after nine years of being in the Nigerian music industry, we decided it was time to quietly close the record label arm of our business.

“Essentially, we have restricted our business and instead of operating just as a record label, we have expanded and changed our focus a bit. This switch in focus has been amazing and fulfilling behind the scenes, we have been able to impact the launching and marketing of a number of brands and companies the way we did artists.

“But even in the talent management side, we are no longer restricted to working with just music artists.

“We still work with musicians, but also work with On Air Personalities, actors, and evaluating sports management as well.’’

E.M.E. was founded by Banky W and his best friend, Tunde Demuren in 2002 while they were at the university in New York. The label is connected to some musicians in the industry.

Wizkid left E.M.E in February 2013, to start his own label ‘Starboy’. Skales also moved on from E.M.E. following the expiration of his contract.

PoliticsFCT Communities Protest Lack Of Access To Water by ClintGist(op): 8:52pm On Feb 21, 2018
Residents of some communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Wednesday protested lack of access to the only source of water to the areas.

The communities are Tungan-Kwaso, Tungan-Kano and Tungan- Kukudagba.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who monitored the protest along Airport Road in Abuja, reports that the protesters barricaded the road.

Armed policemen and other security agents were seen trying to bring the situation under control and to ensure that the road linking the airport was not completely blocked.

Vehicular movement around the junction linking the communities was slow as a result of the protest.

The protesters alleged that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had built a fence, blocking the road that links the communities to the stream, which was their only source of water.

According to the protesters, the communities have suffered hardship as a result of the development.

They frowned at the insensitivity of FAAN to their plight, despite that the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was established on their land.

Mrs Ladi Danladi, one of the protesters told NAN that the problem started about seven years ago when FAAN approached the communities that it wanted to fence the airport to protect its facilities.

Danladi said the authority had promised to sink a borehole for the communities when it realised that the fence would block the road to the communities’ stream.

She said the stream was the only source of water to the communities, adding that to their surprise, the borehole was sank inside the premises of FAAN after constructing the fence.

“Exactly three weeks today, we were told not to enter their premises to fetch water anymore for fear of the communities planting bomb in their premises.

“So, we reminded them that we cannot live without water and that they have blocked the road leading to the stream that supplied water to the communities.

“Instead of finding solution to the problem, they threatened to shoot anybody found within their premises.

“Before we knew it, they used padlocks to lock the gate leading to the borehole and stationed soldiers at the gate,” she said.

Danladi said the protest was to inform the public of the injustice being meted on the communities.

Mr Usman Farouk, another protester said the communities had suffered a very long period of neglect from the government.

He said the communities originally inhabited the land presently occupied by the airport before they were relocated by the government without any form of compensation.

“As I speak to you, we have been living in these communities without water, hospital, school, road and other basic amenities,” he said.

NAN, however, contacted Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, who confirmed that the communities had been enjoying free access into the airport premises to fetch water.

She said the decision to stop them was due to the recent need to beef up security in the airside, adding that the measure was to avoid security breaches at the airport.

The general manager, however, said that the management of the airport was already handling the situation.

“As part of its corporate social responsibility, FAAN has commenced the process of sinking boreholes for them in their communities and in the next few weeks they will have water,” she said.

CrimeLosing Your Mobile Phone To These SIM Card Hackers Can Render Your Savings Empty by ClintGist(op): 2:33pm On Feb 21, 2018
A six-man gang who specialize in the theft of mobile phones have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

The suspects reportedly deliver SIM cards obtained from their heist to hackers who have developed a technique for making away with the savings of their victims.

While parading the men, state police commissioner, Mr. Imohimi Edgal stated that they are able to carry out the theft using an application which gives them access to their victim’s bank account.

Their exploits came to a halt following an a recent operation in the suburban town of Egbeda, where a lady identified as Yinka was robbed of her mobile.

According to reports, he found out that a sum of N1, 153,000, had been removed from her bank account after inserting her SIM in a new device.

This inspired an investigation that ensured the capture of the suspects.

One of the suspects, Muritala Mohammed, aged 28 years old, was described as one who had engaged in the act of stealing since his time in secondary school.

“My first hit was N20k. All the SIMs that I have worked on should be up to 47”, Muhammed who dropped out of the Ojo High Secondary School, Lagos, while still in class SS2 told reporters.

The police are packing heat for Yahoo boys

Fifteen Yahoo Boys have been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). They were apprehended on Saturday, February 3, 2018 in Sagamu, Ogun State.

CelebritiesTonto Dikeh: Olakunle Churchill Was Married To Another While We Were Married by ClintGist(op): 9:18am On Feb 21, 2018
Tonto Dikeh has revealed that her husband, Oladunni Churchill was married to someone else all through the time they were married.

The beautiful actress and mother of one made this known while granting an interview with the Saturday Sun where she also talked about her career.

When asked if she still interacts with her husband and allow him to play a major role in the life of their son, Tonto Dikeh revealed that they just ended a child custody case in court which she wouldn’t like to talk about.

“Recently, we just ended a court case which I did not publicise because I respect my son so much, anything that concerns my son I try as much as possible to keep it on the wraps. We just finished a custody battle case and a child support case.

“If you want to talk about me and my ex-husband that’s different but I will not even glorify that because he’s eating off my energy and my stardom and I don’t want that anymore. I don’t even think I was ever married because he was married to someone else while I was married to him,” she said.

Even though Tonto Dikeh and her ex-husband, Churchill Oladunni might no longer be in good terms the two set aside their differences last week when their son celebrated his birthday. Churchill Oladunni showed up at King’s school to celebrate his son’s birthday and he even took pictures with Tonto Dikeh. Among those present at the birthday party were close friends and classmates of the celebrant, King.

It would be recalled that Oladunni Churchill had filed a suit in January 2018 against Tonto Dikeh at the family court stopping his son, King from featuring in her reality show. In his application, Churchill Oladunni wants to protect his son’s image and which he feels is being exploited for financial gains

PhonesMicrosoft Just Put Another Nail In The Coffin For Windows Phones by ClintGist(op): 11:49pm On Feb 20, 2018
Windows Phone 7.5 and 8 will no longer receive push notifications.

•Smartphones running Windows Phone 7.5 or Windows 8 are no longer getting push notifications, after Microsoft announced it’s pulled support.

•Windows Phone 8.1 will work as usual “at this time,” and the current Windows 10 Mobile is still fully supported.

•However, Microsoft has said that Windows 10 Mobile is no longer a focus, and users shouldn’t expect new features or hardware.

It’s no secret by now that Microsoft’s smartphone ambitions are basically over, with its current Windows 10 Mobile operating system barely on life support.

So here’s another nail in the coffin. On Monday, Microsoft announced in a blog post that any phone running the older Windows Phone 7.5 or 8 operating systems will no longer receive push notifications. Plus, the “Find my phone” function on those operating systems will no longer work, either.

This isn’t necessarily going to affect a whole lot of users: Windows Phone 7.5 was first released in 2011, and Windows Phone 8 dropped in 2012. Despite the nomenclature, they were totally different operating systems: Windows Phone 7.5 hardware couldn’t upgrade to Windows Phone 8. Neither operating system found a huge audience at the time, and there likely aren’t many phones out there using it today — which is part of why Microsoft currently finds itself in this suboptimal smartphone situation in the first place.

If you’re one of the few using the more recent Windows Phone 8.1, which dropped in 2014, Microsoft writes that everything will still work as usual “at this time.” The phrasing here keeps the door open that things could change in the not-so-distant future.

Meanwhile, Windows 10 Mobile, which launched in 2015, is still fully supported by Microsoft. At least, technically: While all of its current features still work the same as they ever did, Microsoft announced in October that users can only expect security patches and minor improvements, not major new features or new hardware.

So, yes, here’s another milestone in the march to the grave for Windows on smartphones.

Hope may still spring, though: Rumor is that Microsoft is working on a new, foldable tablet device that could also function as a smartphone. If and when that device comes to market, though, it will almost certainly not be running anything we would today recognize as a Windows phone operating system.

CrimeMeet The Playboy Who Swindled A Dubai Bank Out Of $242 Million With Black Magic by ClintGist(op): 12:06pm On Feb 20, 2018
https://www.clintgist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/100063587-dba82216-9aec-4897-8b51-c05655c1c7cd-795x385.jpg
Foutanga Babani Sissoko, a Malian playboy with a distinct swagger, scammed the Dubai Islamic Bank of 242 million dollars with nothing more than empty promises and the illusion of black magic.

If you’re any bit familiar with African nationals and financial escapades with foreign banks, the figure — 242 million dollars may ring a special note for you.
While Emmanuel Nwude was selling a fake airport to a Brazilian bank for the same amount, Foutanga Babani Sissoko, a Malian playboy with a distinct swagger, scammed the Dubai Islamic Bank of 242 million dollars with nothing more than empty promises and the illusion of black magic.
Born in the village of Dabia, not far from Mali’s capital, Bamako, little is known of Sissoko's early life.

The part that matters and has made him a reference in lectures of international banking fraud begins in August 1995.

One day, Sissoko walks into the office of the Dubai Islamic Bank to request for a car loan.

The bank manager, Mohammed Ayoub, agreed and Sissoko invited him for dinner. Over a meal, the Malian told his Emirati friend that he had powers of black magic. If Ayoub would come back again with some cash, he would show him his powers.

Most Westerners see black magic or voodoo as an African thing. But in the middle east, such practices are a lot more familiar.

Islam is as much a religion as a way of life in these parts and it frowns on the belief in and practice of black magic as paganism. Yet, for Ayoub, the allure was too strong.

"Djinns, Black Magic and Money Doubling"
On his return, after an encounter with a stranger who warned him of the presence of a spirit - a djinn, Ayoub stepped into the magic room and put his money forward.

He said he saw lights and heard strange sounds-phenomena easily associated with the supernatural. By the time the hoopla died down, his money was doubled.

Ayoub was ecstatic. He had found a way to double the money. As manager of a bank with millions of dollars at his behest, he could make millions in profits.

ALSO READ: How Emmanuel Nwude sold an imaginary airport for 242 million dollars

At the centre of the events that would define this incident, greed would sit comfortably in a green robe.

“He believed it was Black Magic — that Mr Sissoko could double the money,” says Alan Fine, a Miami attorney the bank later asked to investigate the crime.

“So he would send money to Mr Sissoko — the bank’s money — and he expected it to come back in double the amount.”

Over the next 3 years, Ayoub sent money to over 180 of Sissoko’s accounts in different locations around the world.

In 1998, news began to filter that the bank was in a cashflow crisis. The bank denied it.

They called it “a little difficulty that did not lead to any financial losses either in the bank’s investments or depositors’ accounts”.

But this was not the case.

Dubai Islamic Bank would have gone into bankruptcy, but for the government who stepped in to save the bank.

By this time, Sissoko was far away.

From Dubai to New York
Ever the smooth talker, in 1995, he had set the other part of his elaborate scheme in motion.

“He walked into Citibank one day, no appointment, met a teller and he ended up marrying her,” says Alan Fine. “And there’s reason to believe she made his relationship with Citibank more comfortable, and he ended up opening an account there through which, from memory, I’m just going to say more than $100m was wire transferred into the United States.”

Dubai Islamic Bank would later bring a case against CitiBank, claiming that more than $151m “was debited by Citibank from DIB’s correspondent account without proper authorisation”. The case was later dropped.

His money and his social skills endeared Sissoko to many women for a variety of reasons. But while his harem grew, Sissoko’s eyes were set not on female bodies, but on the skies.

With the bank’s money rolling in, Sissoko could fulfil his dream of opening an airline in his home country.

He bought a used Hawker-Siddeley 125 and a pair of old Boeing 727s.

This was the birth of Air Dabia, named after his village in Mali.

His biggest mistake came when he tried to buy two Huey helicopters dating from the Vietnam War, for reasons that did not quick match up.

Huey Helicopters can be fitted with gunships and they needed an export license to be taken out of the country. But instead of paying the fees, Sissoko’s associates attempted to bribe the customs agencies.

One thing led to another and he was caught in Geneva where he was opening another account.

After he was extradited to the US, things took a different and amusing turn.

Painting a positive image
First, it was at his bail hearing where the judge and members of the prosecution were shocked by the number of American diplomats willing to vouch for him.

Against the wishes of the US government, Sissoko was bailed for 20 million dollars.

Then, now in Miami, waiting for the outcome of his trial for bribery, Sissoko began to throw money at the people of Miami.

He bought Mercedes Benz and Jaguar cars for the members of the defence team.

On one visit to a jewellery store, Sissoko is said to have spent over half a million dollars.

“He would come in and buy two three four cars at the same time, come back another week and buy two three four cars at the same time. It was just, the money was like wind,” says car dealer Ronil Dufrene.

Sissoko already had a bevvy of wives and concubines but he set to adding more of Miami’s finest to his harem.

When one high-school band needed money to travel to New York for a Thanksgiving Day parade, he gave £300,000 ($413,000).

All of this was to serve one purpose. Sissoko was desperate for good publicity and a positive image.

Soon enough, the Miami media noticed; in a story by the Miami Herald, he is estimated to have given away over 14 million dollars.

After pleading guilty to the charge, he was sentenced to 43 days in prison and a $250,000 fine — paid, of course, by the Dubai Islamic Bank, though without its knowledge.

After serving only half this sentence, he was given early release in return for a $1m payment to a homeless shelter. The rest he was meant to serve under house arrest in Mali.

Sissoko was welcomed like a celebrity when he returned home.

By this time, the Dubai Islamic Bank was certain that it had lost hundreds of millions of dollars.

After Sissoko stopped answering his calls, Ayoub confessed to a colleague, who asked how much was missing. Too ashamed to say, Ayoub wrote it on a scrap of paper — 890 million dirhams, the equivalent of $242m (£175m).

He was convicted of fraud and given three years in jail.

Sissoko, on the other hand, has lived in Mali since, as a free man. In his absence, a Dubai Court sentenced him to three years for money laundering but he will never serve a day of that time.

For 12 years, between 2002 and 2014, Sissoko was a member of parliament in Mali, which gave him immunity from prosecution.

Since then, the fact that Mali has no extradition treaty with the US, the UAE or any other country has been his saving grace.

The Dubai Islamic Bank, nonetheless, is still pursuing him through the courts.

There seems little hope in that course.

After a long intense search, Sissoko was found, now aged 70, in the town of Dabia where he was born.

He is no longer wealthy, as he himself admits, but the tall tales with which he swindled Ayoub are not in short supply.

PoliticsNo 2019 Election Without IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu - Wife Vows by ClintGist(op): 4:28pm On Feb 19, 2018
Uchechi said the Federal Government should say the truth about the whereabouts of her missing husband.

Uchechi Kanu, the wife of Nnamdi Kanu who's the missing leader of separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has vowed that there will be no election in 2019 if the Federal Government does not produce her husband.
In an interview with the BBC, published on Monday, February 19, 2018, Uchechi said the Federal Government should say the truth about the whereabouts of her husband who has not been seen in public since September 14, 2017.

https://www.clintgist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/12903414ee19ece15d5ba6bfd3da13cfb13890de-795x385.jpg
She said, "In the next coming election, we need to have that in mind that for us to ever be better, we need to stand up.

"Yes, Nnamdi Kanu's issue should be the number one thing. Where is he? You need to provide him, at least tell us where he is.

"You need to at least do something before you run an election, otherwise we're not going to vote."

Uchechi also shed more light on her last interaction with Kanu, sticking with IPOB's stance that he was kidnapped by troops of the Nigerian Army.

She revealed that Kanu called her while soldiers stormed his father's compound in Umuahia, Abia to abduct him.

She said, "Nigerian Army should tell the world what has happened to him because they were the last people who were in touch with him. He was trapped in the house when they went to invade the house and that was when he called me.

"He says, 'Can you hear the gun shots?' I panicked and screamed, 'What's going on? What's going on?' He said to me, 'The military men are here; they're shooting.' Loads and loads of people lost  their lives and Nnamdi Kanu is nowhere to be found."

IPOB agitation not illegal
During the interview, Uchechi also dismissed concerns that Kanu's conduct as the leader of IPOB could be determined to be illegal.

"What makes it illegal? Why should that be treasonous? One asking for self-determination. Why is that a crime? It's not a crime," she said.

We're homeless - Uchechi
Uchechi also dismissed claims that Kanu left her in the United Kingdom to shield her from the consequences of his actions, arguing that his participation in the agitation is the ultimate sacrifice.

She said, "Do they even know what I go through? It's something I can't explain. My parents-in-law I don't know where they are. Nobody has a home. We're homeless. Is that not a sacrifice? We're suffering too. So, whereby he's in this very mission is the ultimate sacrifice."

Kanu's disappearance

Nnamdi Kanu has not been seen in public since an alleged attack on his father's compound by soldiers on September 14, and has missed a few court appearances since then. His parents, HRH Eze Israel Kanu and Lolo Sally, have also been missing since then.

His counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, stands by his claim that he's in custody of the military while the government has always maintained that Kanu has gone into hiding to avoid prosecution with other rumours circulating that he might have even escaped to the United Kingdom.

He was arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) in 2015 and spent two years in custody until he was granted bail on health grounds in April 2017.

Due to the events that happened in September when IPOB members publicly clashed with soldiers, the activities of the group has been proscribed and it has been branded a terrorist organisation.

PoliticsAPC Has Failed To Fulfill Promises And Restore Hope – Goodluck Jonathan by ClintGist(op): 1:16pm On Feb 17, 2018
Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has said the All Progressives Congress (APC), has failed to fulfill its campaign promises as well as restoring hope to the people.

Jonathan made this known while receiving leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, on Friday, February 16, 2018.

He said: “I believe that PDP will return to power in 2019 if we continue to build confidence especially as the ruling party has failed to meet up their promises and give hope to the people.

“Propaganda may help you win elections but can’t help you govern and that is what APC has seen in the last 32 months.”

The former president also expressed support for the amendment of the sequence of 2019 election saying: “Holding presidential election first will affect the quality of persons that will emerge in other polls because of the bandwagon effect.”

“The ruling party the APC should see it from national and patriotic interests since laws are not meant for persons in power at a particular time.”

Jonathan criticized Buhari over herdsmen attacks

Jonathan had criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for dragging his name into the ongoing Fulani herdsmen crisis, saying his administration treated them as terrorists.

Jonathan criticised the presidency for the inaccuracy of the figure released and the attempt to trivialise the current crisis.

The former president also defended his handling of the killer herdsmen during his tenure and explained how he curbed their menace and prosecuted offenders who were convicted after trials.

Education7 JAMB Coordinators Who Told Amazing Stories Of Missing Funds by ClintGist(op): 11:50am On Feb 17, 2018
A snake swallowing N36million isn't the only moonlight story you heard from JAMB this week. Here are 6 others.

For the records, Philomena Chieshe of the Makurdi office of JAMB, wasn’t the only one who regaled the nation with tales of how official funds disappeared into thin air.

Chieshe had said the N36million JAMB money stored in her office vault had been swallowed by a mysterious snake.

As the new JAMB management led by Prof Ishaq Oloyede traverses the country alongside auditors; to find out where all the money from sale of scratch cards went, they’ve had an earful from employees.

Chieshe is in some good company after all.

Here are the Oscar winning scripts voiced by JAMB staff across Nigeria.

1. Sanusi Atose, Yobe State JAMB coordinator

According to Atose, when Boko Haram attacked Yobe, the sum of N613,000 kept in his custody, simply vanished.

Atose also said all records of the transactions had been destroyed by the terrorists.

Premium Times reports Atose’s story this way: “tellers, receipts and invoices were destroyed in the attack, which he said left him with no documentation for the transaction”.

2. Murtala Abdul, Gombe JAMB staff

Abdul told auditors that a couple of persons forged his signature and looted N10million from the Gombe office of JAMB in his name.

“In the course of reconciliation, the marketing team came up with another invoice which I was told I collected in 2015. Someone copied my signature that I signed to collect the scratch cards,” Abdul said.

3. Labaran Tanko, Nasarawa State JAMB coordinator

According to Tanko, N23million from the sale of JAMB scratch cards got burnt when his car caught fire.

4. Daniel Agbor, Kogi State JAMB coordinator

Agbor told investigators that he used the N7million they were looking for to take care of his employees who were hungry and living in poverty.

“The state of the State offices is such that we are in poverty and money is there with us,” Agbor said.

He thereafter pleaded for mercy from the investigators.

“You need the grace of God in the state offices not to steal money because money is tempting. We borrowed the money and I am not the only one, I will provide the list of everyone involved in the fraud.

“To err is human, to forgive is divine, please don’t take me to the police, please be lenient with me, sir,” Agbor begged.

5. Olaolu Adeniyi, Ondo State JAMB coordinator

N1.34million developed wings when his accountant went through a dialysis procedure, Adeniyi says.

Adeniyi puts it this way: “My accountant told me that he handed all the money to his deputy and the deputy confirmed that he has spent the money”.

6. Zakadu Yakubu, Plateau State JAMB personnel

He couldn’t offer any explanations when asked how N15million disappeared on his watch.

7. Philomina Chieshe, Clerk at Makurdi JAMB office

This takes the cake.

Philomena told a phenomenal story of a mystery snake swallowing N36million from her office vault—a story that immediately went viral.

*******

Established in 1978, JAMB was set up to coordinate, process and harmonise admissions into Nigerian universities.

Prof Oloyede took over from Prof Dibu Ojerinde as Registrar of the examination body on August 1, 2016.

Celebrities2019 Elections: 2face, Bank W Lead March For Voters Registration by ClintGist(op): 7:59pm On Feb 16, 2018
Celebrities and Civic Society Organizations have taken to the streets nationwide to educate Nigerians on the importance registering to vote ahead of the 2019 elections.

Pop stars, Innocent ‘2face’ Idibia and Bankole ‘Banky W’ Wellington were among celebrities who led the march that simultaneously took place in 18 states and the federal capital territory.

The sensitisation took place under the auspices of One Voice Nigeria.

Idibia urged Nigerians to massively register to vote, adding that voter’s card is the most powerful tools in a democratic government.

“From the last election, the people should know that their vote would count but this time around, let’s do it on a double level. Everybody that is eligible should register to vote. The voter’s card is a powerful tool because if you don’t vote, you don’t have right to complain. The first step for the citizen to change Nigeria is to register to vote,” the musician said.

He appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recruit staffers who would be willing to do their jobs and register more people to vote.

On his part, Banky W called on Nigerians to come out en masse to vote so that they can hold politicians accountable for what they promised during the campaign.

He added, “This can also make us hold INEC on what happened to our votes after voting.

“The power lies with the people so we need to register and vote. Your voter’s card is worth more than money and it will make us benefit from a better Nigeria”.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Now Muzik Limited, Efe Omorogbe, which who also joined the march, charged Nigerian youths to be actively involved in politics.

He said, “If you make the kind of mistake the elderly ones made, Nigeria will continue to suffer and become worse. Political issues determine educational policies, how the police function and state of employment in the country.

“The youths should not just stay on social media; they should be politically inclined and involved. Move beyond complaining, get active. The most ignorant person is he who decides not to get involved in politics and not vote. The right to complain begins with registering to vote and vote.”

The Executive Director of Enough Is Enough Nigeria, Mrs Yemi Adamolekun, also urged INEC to work more on disseminating information to the masses and ensure voters are not systematically disenfranchised by its activities.

Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida had in a separate open letters to President Muhammadu Buhari asked the President not to seek a re-election in 2019 and allow a younger candidate to lead the nation.

In the explosive letters which unsettled the country’s political sphere, the two leaders re-echoed the opinions of many Nigerians that the Buhari administration has failed to deliver on its campaign promises.

PoliticsArmy Stakes N3m Reward For Information On Whereabouts Of This Man by ClintGist(op): 9:01pm On Feb 15, 2018
The Nigerian Army has placed a N3 million reward for information that will lead to the arrest of Abubakar Shekau, the fugitive factional leader of the Boko Haram terrorists group.

The army announced the bounty in a statement signed by its Spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, on Thursday.

“Anybody with such credible information can either contact the Military Command and Control Centre, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, any military location, security agencies or call the Nigerian Army Information and Call Centre 193,” Usman said.

NAN reports that the Nigerian Army had on Tuesday said that it had credible information that Shekau was now dressing as a woman in an effort to escape the Theatre of Operation.

“We reliably gathered that to avoid detection, Abubakar Shekau alternates between blue and black coloured hijabs. He was last seen in a black hijab.

“He is running for his dear life. He is desperately trying to escape the Theatre, disguises as a woman and dresses in Hijab,’’ the Army Spokesman said in a statement.

EducationNigerian student comes top in Portugal for his optical disease diagnosis by ClintGist(op): 8:41pm On Feb 15, 2018
Bashir Dodo: Nigerian student comes top in Portugal for his optical disease diagnosis

A Nigerian student, Bashir Dodo has won the ‘Best Student Paper’ for his new technique for identifying and diagnosing damage to the human retina at the BIOIMAGING 2018 conference in Portugal.

The Nigerian doctoral candidate from Brunel University London’s Department of Computer Science demonstrated a new algorithm for OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) equipment which can automatically segment images of the retina into distinct layers.

Having taken inspiration from the psychological concept of similarity, Bashir used the ideas of continuity and discontinuity to develop an OCT algorithm that can identify where one layer of the retina transitions to the next.

Speaking about his new diagnosis technique, Bashir, 29, said “Layer segmentation is one of the early processes of OCT retina image analysis, and already plays an important role in clinics.

“For example, the thickness profile of the Retinal Nerve Fibre Layer – which can be calculated directly from the segment layer – is used in the diagnosis of glaucoma, which is one of the most common causes of sight-loss world-wide.

Automatically segmenting the layers could provide critical information for abnormality detection by comparing them to the average population, and monitoring the progress of disease against previous scans.” He said.

Whilst doctors are currently able to identify the layers manually from OCT images, Bashir’s new technique automatically segments images of the retina, allowing specialists to spot abnormalities quicker and better track the progress of medication.

It’s therefore hoped the new technique, which can separate the retina into seven distinct layers, could improve the accuracy and speed of diagnosis, and help save the sight of patients by identifying damage earlier.

PoliticsI Can’t Create Cattle Colonies Across Nigeria Except Abuja – Buhari by ClintGist(op): 4:57pm On Feb 11, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari might have disappointed Fulani herdsmen over the creation of cattle colonies across the country after saying he lacks the power to do such.

Buhari recently noted that his constitutional powers does not cover creation of cattle colonies or ranches outside Abuja, which serves as the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Buhari, who was represented by Ita Enang, the Land Use Act of 1978 empowers only state governors and local government chairmen to control land in their domains.

“When Nigeria became four regions, we had cattle routes in each of the regions.

“When Nigeria created states, each of the states made laws to regulate rearing of animals. In 1978, under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as head of state, the Land Use Act was made.

“Under the Land Use Act, the President of Nigeria has power to control lands in Abuja only.”

FG seeks to settle herdsmen and farmers clashes with creation of cattle colonies

Following the incessant clashes between herders and farmers across Nigeria, the federal government had proposed the establishment of cattle colonies to curb the increasing cases.

The minister of agriculture and rural development, Audu Ogbeh, had moved to see to the creation of the colonies by seeking approval from state governors.

However, only 16 out of the 36 state governors have allocated land to begin construction of the cattle colonies.

“No colony in Yorubaland” – Falae

Former SGF, Chief Olu Falae, has vowed to oppose the establishment of cattle colonies for herdsmen in the southwest in the wake of an attack on his farm by suspected herdsmen on Sunday, January 21, 2018.

While reacting to the attack on his farm on Monday, January 22, Chief Falae said he will work with other leaders of the region to oppose the Federal Government-led plan.

Ortom, Ikpeazu, Wike reject cattle colonies

Meanwhile, Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, turned down the plan to create cattle colonies in the state during a stakeholders meeting on Monday, January 15, 2018.

Ortom said: “So for us in Benue State there is no 10,000 hectares, they are looking for 5,000 hectares we have no 10 hectares to allow it for that kind of a thing to take place. So people are free.

“Other states have the land but we in Benue State we don’t have and that was what led to us enacting this law.”

In the same vein, Abia state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu rejected plans by the FG to create cattle colonies for herdsmen in the state.

The Governor’s spokesman said that the state will not cede its territories to be used by Fulani herdsmen as cattle colonies.

PoliticsAtiku Begins Plan To Woo PDP Delegates For Presidential Ticket by ClintGist(op): 4:44pm On Feb 11, 2018
Atiku begins plan to woo PDP delegates for presidential ticket

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commenced plans to woo delegates ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential primaries.

The plan was kicked off by the Atiku Global Support Group after the launch of its new campaign:“Operation Woo Your Delegates.”

The National Coordinator of AGSG, Alhaji Gambo Jagindi, noted that the move is to help Atiku clinch the PDP presidential ticket.

As a pro-Atiku group, we have a task to do because we are not going to wait for our principal to take the burden of winning the party primaries all alone.

“ We perceive this as costly and too risky for a well networked group and serious group like AGSG.

“ This blueprint is born out of our desire to contribute to the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the PDP flag bearer in 2018 slated for 2019 general elections,” Jagindi said.

Atiku stands a better chance

Jagindi further said the campaign group is convinced that Atiku stands a better chance to win the next presidential elections in 2019.

Jagindi also said Atiku’s position on restructuring the country resonated with the wishes of a greater majority.

He explained that Atiku understood the dynamics that would shape and deliver on the effective development of our country, Nigeria.

He said that it was time for Atiku presidency, adding that since the days of SDP, Atiku’s stand for a prosperous country that offered opportunities for all.

“The group was working round the clock to win the support of both members of PDP and other electorate to actualise the political ambition of Atiku,” he said.

Jagindi also advised members of the group to be law abiding and civil in their approach in the course of canvassing support for Atiku among grassroots.

The deadly Nigerian insurgents, Boko Haram have released three abducted University of Maiduguri lecturers as well as some 10 women.

In a series of tweets by the Presidency, the lecturers and women, who were abducted in 2017 while on an oil exploration trip in the Northeast of Nigeria, were freed on Saturday, February 10, 2018

The Presidency’s Tweets

EducationUNN Matriculates 10,000 Students Under Tight Security by ClintGist(op): 8:56pm On Feb 10, 2018
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka on Saturday matriculated 10,000 students under tight security.

Security was beefed up to prevent non teaching staff from stopping the ceremony

The non-teaching staff are at the moment on national strike and they had threatened to block the university main gate to stop matriculating students, parents, friends and well wishers from entering.

Mr Paul Arua, the leader of non teaching staff in UNN said since non teaching staff were on strike the matriculation should not hold.

“It is the responsibility of non teaching staff to organise matriculation and since we are on strike the matriculation should not hold, ” he said.

NAN gathered that the timely intervention of policemen, operatives of the Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps thwarted the blockade by the union members.

The Civil Defence members led by Nsukka area commander, Mr Sterve Yabanet and Nsukka Police Urban DPO, were able to prevent the protesting non teaching staff from blocking the first gate. Their effort allowed for free flow of human and vehicular traffic to the university.

In his address during the 44th matriculation, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Benjamin Ozumba, urged the newly admitted students to take their studies seriously as UNN is known for academic excellence and has zero tolerance for deviant behaviour.

”The university of Nigeria Nsukka has avalanche of rules and regulations which are applied with strictness without favouring anybody.

“You are advised to avoid deviant behaviour because it’s consequences are not palatable in UNN.

Shun cultism, indecent dressing and exam malpractice else you be expelled,” he said.

Ozumba advised the new student to seek advice from their deans, HOD, academic advisers and administrative staff whenever they have any academic problem.

“The university operates a course system which comprises required, ancillary ,and general studies courses. These are clearly designated in all departments.

TravelAustria To Train 1000 Nigerian Irregular Migrants Before Repatriation by ClintGist(op): 1:42pm On Feb 10, 2018
The Government of Austria says it has completed the process of organising skills acquisition programmes for no fewer than 1000 Nigerian irregular migrants in Austria before their repatriation.
https://www.clintgist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Migrants-795x385.jpg

The country’s Director-General, International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Michael Spindelegger, made this known on Thursday in Abuja at a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeam.

Spindelegger said that ICMPD, with its headquarters in Austria, would start the programme with Nigeria as a pilot case before extending to others.

He said that the programme was to prepare the migrants for gainful employment which some Austrian companies were to set up later in Nigeria.

The centre director-general said that the proposed programme would facilitate reversed migration of the irregular migrants, who had no likelihood of being given legal residents in Austria.

“It is a new idea of how to combine future investment in Nigeria with the return of irregular migrants.

“A lot of companies are interested in investing in Nigeria because of its market.

‘“The idea is to train these irregular migrants before repatriating them so that when they come back, they will have something to do instead of becoming liabilities.

“The idea is also to encourage more Austrian companies to come and invest in Nigeria so that they also can contribute to solving the problem of unemployment and irregular migration,” he said.

According to him, there is provision for asylum in Europe, but in a situation where an emigrant fails to secure asylum, the person will be deported at the long run.

“For them, there is no chance of remaining in the country, because once they are picked, they will not be allowed to take anything, but would be brought back to their country empty.

“There are no fewer than 1,000 Nigerians that are not granted refugees status living in Austria.

“The programme is starting with Nigeria as a pilot, then, we will see what the experience is before extending it to other countries,” he said.

Spindelegger said, “though, only few Austrian companies are currently in Nigeria, efforts are being made to convince companies involved in the programme to come and invest in Nigeria.

“It is also part of the programme. They can get benefits from the European Union for the investment, which serves as more business security for them,” he said.

In his remarks, Onyeama said that the initiative would not only have Nigerians coming back home to contribute to national development, but also stood to benefit from foreign investors.

“It can be companies in Austria that are interested in investing in any sector of Nigerian economy.

“They will be selecting from Nigerian irregular migrants in Austria, train them and send them down to work with their companies in Nigeria,” he said.

The minister, however, dismissed the fears of likely ploy to deport Nigerians in the country through the process.

“Remember that those Nigerians are in that country illegally, and do not have any prospect of regularising their stay. As such, they would be deported in any case.

“So, instead of being deported with the shame that comes with it, they would be given training and guaranteed employment with the companies that would be coming to invest in Nigeria,” he said.

Onyeama said that the present administration had already put in place mechanism to address irregular migration and promote the concept of reverse migration.

He said Nigeria was in full support of the scheme and would ensure its success, adding that government had made huge investment on social intervention programmes and was having such similar scheme partnership with Germany.

BusinessInnoson Files Motion For Stay Of Execution Over Arrest Warrant by ClintGist(op): 1:04pm On Feb 10, 2018
Innoson boss filed for the motion through his legal counsel challenging the court which granted EFCC the power to issue arrest warrant on him.

The chairman of Innoson Group, Innocent Chukwuma, has filed a motion for stay of execution of the arrest warrant against him.
Chukwuma filed for the motion through his legal counsel, J.N. Mbadugha on Friday, February 9, 2018 after the EFCC got an arrest warrant for the automobile businessman over alleged fraud charges.

TheCable reports that during the hearing, Chukwuma’s counsel, dragged the court’s attention to a motion pending at the court of appeal challenging the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the matter brought forward it by the EFCC.

Chukwuma's counsel had described the charge against the Innoson boss as an “abuse of process” maintaining that “a similar charge on the same subject matter is pending at the federal high court, Lagos division, between the same parties in charge no FHC/l/565c/2015.”

In the motion filed by Mbadugha, the legal counsel said it is not within the jurisdiction of the court to hear the case against the Innoson boss.

EFCC has no power to investigate Chukwuma - lawyer
Chukwuma's legal counsel, Mbadugha further said the EFCC has no power to investigate, initiate and prosecute the appellant — Chukwuma — for “forgery, uttering and stealing.”

“In consequence whereof the court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain the matter, the learned trial judge failed to determine the aforesaid issue,” he said.

Continuing, Mbadugha said: “The learned trial judge (also) failed to appreciate that the issue as raised divests the court of the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.”

In his conclusion, Mbadugha prayed that the court to set aside the decision of Mojisola Dada, the trial judge, issuing a bench warrant against his client.

EFCC Vs Chukwuma
On Tuesday, December 19, 2017, the chairman of Innoson Motors, Innocent Chukwuma was arrested at his Enugu home by EFCC operatives.

He was arrested for reportedly jumping bail in connection to a case he has with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), according to Premium Times.

Chukwuma was later released on bail.

Health90% Of Households In Nigeria Consume Faeces-stained Water - UNICEF by ClintGist(op): 6:55pm On Feb 09, 2018
A survey by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has revealed that 90.8 percent of households in Nigeria consume water that is contaminated by impure substances.

Mrs Maureen Zubie-Okolo, a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist with UNICEF said the results of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) about water and sanitation situation in the country was worrisome.

Faeces and other impure substances like E-coli are identified as the main contaminating agents.

“About two out of every three households use improved water sources, while a little more than one-third use improved sanitation compared to 58.5 percent and 31 percent respectively in 2017,” she said.

Zubie-Okolo further said the MICS report was carried out in 2017 by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in collaboration with UNICEF.

Also, the report showed that only 64.1 percent of Nigerians had access to good sources of water as at 2017.

On a regional basis, access to drinkable water and good sanitation practice are better in South Western Nigeria than other parts of the country. 87.3 percent of residents in this region have access to drinkable water.

North-East states were revealed to have the worst water and sanitation practice in the country. Only 52.4 percent of households in the region had good sources of water.

The UNICEF official stressed the need for more advocacy across the three tiers of government as regards making policies and implementing programmes that would increase access to improved water sources and sanitation.

Access to good water and clean environment will promote citizens’ well-being and reduce diseases and deaths.
