A young woman who was bitten by a snake walked into a hospital in China holding the snake with her bare hands.

She caught the reptile after it bit her, held the animal around her wrist and calmly went to the ER so the medics could identify it, according to a hospital in eastern China's Zhejiang Province.



Huang Shengqiang, the ER doctor who treated the woman, said the snake was a non-venomous red-banded snake. Dr Huang said there was no swelling around the patient's wound, so he gave her simple treatment.

Members of the public have hailed the woman for her strength and for remaining calm in the face of a crisis.

Viral pictures taken by the medics show the patient filling out a registration form while grabbing the snake with her thumb and fingers.

"(She) is a femme fatale," said ER nurse Ma Nina at Jinhua's Pujiang Hospital as she recalled the incident which occurred early on Sunday morning. 

The hospital said in a statement that the patient is around 20 years old. She told the doctor that she was searching for her dropped phone in the shrubs when the snake but her. It then crawled onto her palm and she caught it.

Pujiang Hospital said its doctors had treated many patients suffering from snake bites this summer, but this was the first time that they had seen someone coming into the ER with a live snake.

During the height of his popularity, he was often hailed as one of Africa's most "challenging and charismatic music performers

As today marks 21 years since the demise of this Africa’s Afrobeat pioneer, social maverick, and pan-Africanist, clintgist  in this light brings you 21 things you probably didn’t know about him.

Fela was born Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti on 15 October 1938 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and he died on 2 August 1997 at the age of 58 from complications related to AIDS.

His mother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, was a feminist activist in the anti-colonial movement

His father, Reverend Israel Oludotun Ransome-Kuti, an Anglican minister, and school principal was the first president of the Nigeria Union of Teachers.

Fela is a first cousin to the Nigerian writer and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, the first African to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.

He was arrested 200 times and endured numerous beatings, but continued to write political lyrics, producing albums before he died on August 2, 1997, in Lagos.

He attended the Abeokuta Grammar School in Abeokuta and later he was sent to London in 1958 to study medicine but decided to study music instead at the Trinity College of Music.

Fela married his first wife, Remilekun Taylor, with whom he had three children (Femi, Yeni, and Sola).

In 1963, Fela moved back to Nigeria and trained as a radio producer for the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation.

He first called his music Afrobeat In 1969.

He then formed the Kalakuta Republic, a commune, a recording studio, and a home for the many people connected to the band that he later declared independent from the Nigerian state.

Fela set up a nightclub in the Empire Hotel, first named the Afro-Spot and then the Afrika Shrine, where he both performed regularly and officiated at personalized Yoruba traditional ceremonies in honour of his nation’s ancestral faith.

He changed his middle name to Anikulapo (meaning “He who carries death in his pouch”, with the interpretation: “I will be the master of my own destiny and will decide when it is time for death to take me”).

He said  that his original middle name of Ransome was a slave name.

He made the decision to sing in Pidgin English so that his music could be enjoyed by individuals all over Africa, where the local languages were spoken are very diverse and numerous.
In 1977, Fela and the Afrika ’70 released the album Zombie, a scathing attack on Nigerian soldiers using the zombie metaphor to describe the methods of the Nigerian military. The album was a smash hit and infuriated the government, setting off a vicious attack against the Kalakuta Republic, during which one thousand soldiers attacked the commune. Fela was severely beaten, and his elderly mother (whose house was located opposite the commune) was thrown from a window, causing fatal injuries.

Fela’s response to the attack was to deliver his mother’s coffin to the Dodan Barracks in Lagos, General Olusegun Obasanjo’s residence, and to write two songs, “Coffin for Head of State” and “Unknown Soldier”,

Fela and his band then took residence in Crossroads Hotel, as the Shrine had been destroyed along with his commune.

In 1978, Fela married 27 women, many of whom were his dancers, composers, and singers to mark the anniversary of the attack on the Kalakuta Republic.

Fela did not perform songs again after he had already recorded them

In 1979, he put himself forward for President in Nigeria’s first elections for more than a decade, but his candidature was refused.

In 1984, Muhammadu Buhari’s government, of which Kuti was a vocal opponent, jailed him on a charge of currency smuggling which Amnesty International and others denounced as politically motivated

Amnesty International designated him a prisoner of conscience and his case was also taken up by other human rights groups.

He was released from prison by General Ibrahim Babangida after 20 months,

On his release he divorced his 12 remaining wives, saying that “marriage brings jealousy and selfishness”

In 1989, Fela and Egypt ’80 released the anti-apartheid Beasts of No Nation that depicts on its cover U.S. President Ronald Reagan, UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and South African State President Pieter Willem Botha,

A High Court in Owerri, the Imo State Capital, has stopped the swearing-in of Mr Calistus Ekenze as the new Deputy Governor of the state.

The court issued an interim order stopping the swearing-in ceremony after it was approached by Mr Eze Madumere who is challenging his impeachment as deputy governor of the state.

News of the ruling came in on Tuesday morning just as Mr Ekenze was about to be sworn in.

Top government officials had started gathering at the Sam Mbakwe Exco Chambers inside the Government House in Owerri where the swearing-in was supposed to take place as early as 10 am.

But just after waiting for over two hours for the commencement of the ceremony, the Imo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for justice, Miletus Nlemadim, announced that the state government had complied with a fresh order from the court preventing the Chief Judge of the state, Pascal Nnadi, from swearing-in Mr Ekenze.

Imo State Attorney-General, Miletus-Nlemadim, informed those gathered for the swearing-in ceremony about the court ruling.

According to the Attorney-General, the state government is law-abiding and respects the rule of law and as such obeyed the court order.

He, however, explained that the state government is doing everything possible to vacate the order to enable the state government to swear in the deputy governor designate on a future date.

Meanwhile, the state Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has urged all parties to be calm and obey the court order to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the state

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorcha had nominated Mr Ekenze as deputy governor after the impeachment of Mr Eze Madumere.The Imo State House of Assembly impeached Mr Madumere on Monday when 19 out of 27 members backed his removal.

According to the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Acho Ihim, Mr Madumere’s impeachment followed the report of a seven-man panel, constituted by the Chief Judge of the state to investigate allegations of gross misconduct.

Immediately after, the Speaker read a letter from Governor Okorocha nominating Ekenze, the Head of Service in the state, as the new deputy governor.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun the investigation of Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, his wife Feyisetan Fayose, and his top aides including Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to the governor; Toyin Ojo, the state’s commissioner for finance; Oluyemisi Owolabi, the state’s accountant general.

According to a report by The Cable, sources in the know of the investigation reveal that the anti-graft agency is attempting to nail the governor, his wife, and members of his cabinets on allegations of money laundering and abuse of office. Some of the letters seen by TheCable, dated July 20, 2018, and addressed to the managing director and the chief compliance officer of Access Bank Plc reveal that EFCC is also investigating the governor for abuse of office.

The EFCC listed four Access Bank accounts being run by “Ayodele Peter Fayose”, and about five accounts in the same bank, being run by “Feyisetan Helen O. Fayose”, believed to be the wife of the governor. Similar letters were also sent to other major banks in the country, where the governor and his loyalists run personal transactions.


Some of the letters referenced “CR:3000/EFCC/ABJ/EG-TA/VOL.57/254” and “CR:3000/EFCC/ABJ/EG-TA/VOL.57/258” requested that the banks’ compliance officers should report at the EFCC economic governance section on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 — 10 days after the just concluded Ekiti elections.

Insiders also revealed that the banks were asked to present the details of accounts of the governor and his loyalists, including their; statements of accounts, bank verification, and any other relevant information that may help the investigation.

Recall that shortly after Kayode Fayemi of APC was declared winner of the Ekiti state governorship election, the EFCC official Twitter handle tweeted that the anti-graft agency was coming after Fayose so he can explain his role in the alleged N1.3 billion fraud, as filed by the EFCC in 2005.

The EFCC however deleted the tweet and said it does not represent the views of the agency.

This shocking video shows the terrifying moment a furious crocodile chows down on a trainer's arm in front of dozens of horrified spectators after he put his arm inside the beast's mouth during a show in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

According to reports, 45-year-old Tao was performing a stunt at the Phokkathara zoo in front of around 100 people when the incident occurred.

In the video, Tao is was seen putting his arm inside the crocodile's jaws before the reptile suddenly clamped down around his forearm and twisted his arm while another keeper looked on.

The handler was heard screaming in pains before managing to free himself and walked out of the stage as he held his injured arm.

The shocking video was shared by Khun Phusawit, 35, who was visiting the Phokkathara Crocodile Farm and Zoo with his wife Nok and their two children.

The show was very good until that happened. I hope that the man is OK and he gets better soon,’ he said.

'Everybody was shocked when it happened. The kids were a little bit scared.’

He added: 'I've watched the clip back many times to see how it happened and the crocodile seems to not like having the hand in his mouth.'

In a statement released on Monday by Dong Wittawat, the owner of the crocodile park, he said the trainer who had been bitten was treated at the farm and is ‘fine.’

'He was treated at the farm with bandaging,’ Mr. Wittawat said.

‘He loves crocodiles and he will be working again soon in the next two weeks. It is very rare for this to happen.'

Nigeria’s U-15 team, Future Eagles won the silver medal in the football event of the 2018 African Youth Games (AYG), after a 1-3 loss to Morocco in the final on Friday, July 27.

The Future Eagles earlier beat Morocco 3-2 in their opening encounter of the group stage when they had to come down from two goals to seal victory.

They however could not repeat the same heroics as they succumbed to their north African rivals who claimed their crown.

The team led by Danladi Nasidi fell behind to the Moroccans in the 20th minute, and could not recover before the halftime break.

The Moroccans doubled their lead at the start of the second half to put the Future Eagles under more pressure.


The Future Eagles tried to find their way back into the game and scored a goal on the half hour mark.


The Moroccans however would prove to be have learnt from their opening day defeat as they capitalized on the Future Eagles search for a winner to seal victory with their third goal of the game in the 68th minute.

Lateef Omidiji who turned down the U.S.A for Nigeria will be happy to be the first foreign based player to turn out for the Nigerian U-15 setup and is one to look out for in the future.

Super Eagles players have begun to pay their tributes to goalkeeper Carl Ikeme after he announced his retirement from international football.

The 31-year-old announced his retirement on Friday, July 27 much to the surprise of football loving Nigerians.

Ikeme played a key role for the Super Eagles during the qualification stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup as he was the first choice shot-stopper before he suffered acute-leukaemia which ruled him out of action.



In his message on Instagram, Ikeme thanked the management and staff of Wolverhampton Wanderers for their support.

His message read, “after advice from the doctors I have taken the decision to retire. It’s not a sad day for me but one to look back with fondness and joy for being able to live my dream.

“I just want to thank everyone at @wolves for there support over the years. We have rode the good and bad times together , an I’m great-full to of been apart of the clubs history. I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone again soon and being back around the club and city !! Thank You!!!.”

Artist Joel Alvarez sent models down the runway at Miami Swim Week in rather inventive, very skimpy bikinis made of TAPE.

The photographer-cum-designer presented his range of “swimwear,” in the form of one and two-pieces and even mankinis made of nothing but tape in bright colours and metallics.

Created by fashion house, Black Tape Project, the sticky collection may be discernible as non- bathing suits from a far, but up close it was clear that it was in fact strategically placed tape, and not fabric, that covered the models’ most intimate areas.

Joel reveals on his website that he started his project back in 2008 after a model requested a photoshoot, in which she’d be covered in black tape.

“So I basically wrapped her in black electrical tape,” he said. “Mind you she looked like 2 Christmas hams wrapped in rubber bands when I was done. I’d never show you these images! BUT It sparked an idea in my head.”

According to The Daily Mail, Joel then began taking photos of Hooters waitresses covered in the electrical tape, before moving on to incorporate a variety of tape for more shoots. He sold his work in Miami nightclubs, then taking them international to Ibiza, France, Norway and Canada.

After Joel photographed a former Miss Puerto Rico and uploaded a video of their shoot, it went quickly viral; receiving 7 million views and over 50,000 shares. He currently has nearly 70K followers on his Instagram page, where he says he gets many inquiries into his tape-made looks.

For the DIY-minded consumer looking to recreate the look, Joel sells the golden tape for up to $49.99 (£37.63).
