Cool down Ma'am. Haba no be fight.

1) Closing Guantanamo Bay Prison was a MAJOR campaign promise from President Obama in the 2008 campaign for his first term. He's a lawyer and knew it couldn't be closed. Well Guantanamo Bay Prison is still open and operational.

2) I'm completely neutral on abortion. The fact is that Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger as an organization to wipe out Black Americans. It's right there on the Planned Parenthood website.
I’m very cool and calm. I don’t know why you think otherwise.

Wait now you care about institutional bias and racism?
Your flip flopping is exhausting.

The Department of Education was founded in 1979. The USA was doing just fine without it. It was another inflationary and regulatory expansion of government.

The Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria should also be abolished.

The States or even counties should handle education. Government funded education in general but especially at the national level, has done more harm than good.

Good Luck to Nigerians.
Tell that to the poor families whose school districts and IEPs are going to be completely bankrupted when it’s eliminated. Just because it wasn’t formed until around 50 years ago doesn’t mean it’s not good for the beneficiaries now. From the look of things, poor counties in red states and their high illiteracy rate could use even more help.

Nothing he does will be in their favor.

He promised them he’ll eliminate the department of education and they cheered for him.

No further thought down the road about how this elimination will affect their title 1 schools which are mostly funded by federal money for lower income families and children with disabilities/IEPs.

Most of his voters are poor. So definitely will be affected by this. Some of their title 1 schools will have to merge or close for lack of funds. They think they’ll be able to get into private schools with vouchers. I have such bad news for them. It’s not even funny.

Imagine admitting that you voted for someone knowing they lied about their policies or at best didn’t really mean what they said.

Is he a man of his words or is he not?

IT IS COMMON SENSE to know that if someone promises contradictory things to multiple groups of people, he’s either an idiot or he thinks you’re idiots.

Now you’re okay with more expensive groceries?
Didn’t Americans “voTe fOr the ecOnomY”?🙄

You know it’s not us you’re trying to convince. You’re trying to convince yourself and it’s funny to watch.

You still have a few more years of goal shifting and justifying to do.

Next week (or maybe tomorrow) you’ll be here again to defend Trump on another reneged promise or astonishing lie. He told over 30 thousand lies in his first administration. Y’all got your work cut out for you grin it won’t be an easy four years .

PS: Planned parenthood in addition to abortions provides millions of birth control, sex education, STI screening and cancer screening each year. But I know you don’t care about facts. So don’t even bother.

IbeOkehie:
They assumption that Mr Trump will not do all he promised or threatened is reasonable.

I have a few friends and family, including an Arab Muslim immigrant man and a Black American woman, who explicitly voted for Trump on that basis.

The Muslim immigrant believed and still insists there will be no mass deportation beyond criminals aliens. Mr Trump has already signaled in the recent full length CBS interview that he will not deport the Dreamers and will "work with Congress to do something for them to stay." I believe I got the quote right.

The Muslim immigrant voted for Trump because of all the transgender extremism on the Democrat side.

The Black American woman told me she couldn't vote for Ms Harris because her main campaign issue was abortion. She also doesn't think Trump will do anything to hamper abortion access.

This woman believes abortion is a continuing campaign to destroy Black Americans. She has a point because the main abortion organization Planned Parenthood was founded by a woman for the EXPLICIT purpose of wiping out Negroes in the USA. The demographics of abortion seem to prove the point. Some states keep abortion stats classified by race. The lopsidedness of the numbers is shocking 😲

https://www.google.com/search?q=planned+parenthood+on+sanger+founder&oq=planned+parenthood+on+sanger+founder&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigATIHCAQQIRigATIHCAUQIRiPAtIBCTE2NjQ0ajBqN6gCFLACAQ&client=ms-android-samsung-gn-rev1&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

It's amazing that liberals can support such an organization and insist it continue to get federal funding. I know some will surmise that I'm anti-abortion rights. I just don't care either way. 🤷 It's illegal in Nigeria and it still happens, long ago it was illegal in the USA and yet it still happened. Nothing can stop it. There's something weird though about how some people are so radically insistent on making abortions a normal, easy thing to do.

So yes, some Trump voters have flexible and REASONABLE expectations of the incoming President. There's nothing strange in that.

Good Luck to Nigerians.

He “felt weak” when it happened and decided to join the game by buying shares. Good for him.

Imagine if he was needing life saving treatment and in no position to buy stocks or shares? Would he just say “well I understand it’s business as usual”. I doubt that.

He said he didn’t understand how healthcare works. I gave him a real everyday example of how profits are made. Managers compete to see who can run on the most skeletal staff. What should we tell the patient who wasn’t supposed to die but did because his nurse had 6 other critical patients when she should’ve had only four? “Suck it up in the grave buddy. That bottom line is too important?”

I don’t know how after so many posts you’re still at this conclusion.

No CEO compensation that’s earned from denying clients healthcare is worth it. No compensation earned from cutting back manufacturing safety regulations so that consumers are at risk of harm is worth it.

If we continue like this, we’ll have skyscrapers collapsing in the cities because the construction CEO wanted to save some extra bucks. If you’ve justified sick people not getting healthcare because it’s business and the company has to profit somehow, then I won’t be surprised if you find a way to justify that too.

We don’t care what anyone earns legitimately as long as it’s not to the detriment of others, their pain, suffering and death.

I feel like I couldn’t be clearer. So it’s reasonable for me to think that you’re intentionally committed to misunderstanding me. I’ll stop engaging here on out.

Maybe on a different topic I will.

The CEO has earned hs compensation just like a Nurse, A doctor a Gateman and a Neurosurgeon. No need checking someone's wallet and claiming its too much. That is envy. What you take home to some people is too much. Yet they are not willing to do or go through what you went through to earn that income

If its about keeping people alive then we can ask everyone involved to work for free, CEO reduce, Doctors reduce salary, Nurses reduce salary, Gatemen reduce salary, Power company reduce charges, rent reduce, ambulance drivers reduce. So they wont play with peoples lives
If the Doctor Nurse, CNA Pharmacist dont get paid what they believe they earned and deserved, will they continue working to save these peoples lives?

On this, I want to make it clear that there's no solution for healthcare in modern society. This is something I've stated REPEATEDLY on this forum. When it comes to healthcare, I don't know much. Because healthcare is not subject to VOLUNTARY demand, free market and economic principles can't be applied. In the long run, nothing works for healthcare in any country under any system. Unfortunately.

Good Luck to Nigerians.
@bold, using inpatient care for example, a nurse manager is encouraged to run the unit with skeleton staff. The pay that would have been given to 4 extra nurses to keep patients safer goes up to the c-suite. Maybe she saved the CEO half a million dollars in the unit’s operating cost by doing that. So she gets a bonus.

Replicate this per unit, per floor per hospital per Region and the CEO ends up saving hundreds of millions to billions each year in operating costs. Who pays the price? The patient does. Older patients are falling, medication errors are happening, deteriorating patients are not seen on time until they’ve suffered irreparable damage. This is the norm in most hospitals hence there’s always “nursing shortages”. It’s because they put profit over humans.

Now I work for a unionized corporation where the union insists on fair cost of living compensation for all the staff and appropriate staffing to ensure patient safety.

Surprise surprise, The corporation still makes billions each year. Yes they could have made more if their greed was left unchecked. But they are happy. The staff is happy. The patients are well cared for. Why isn’t this replicable in other parts of the country? The answer is republican propaganda.

Let’s not say there’s no solution. It’s right there in front of our eyes.

IbeOkehie:
Mr Gerrard didn't justify racism. That's like saying he justified snow or rain. Come on. Humans are NATURALLY racist and everyone knows it. And since this is actually a Trump is President-Elect thread, let me add that Mr Trump is not a racist either.

Accusing people of racism is losing its sting. It's been used to brow beat people and extract undeserved concessions and those targeted are getting tired of it and the results are showing.

The Democrats and liberals excuse illegal immigration because it provides labor for hard & dirty jobs. It's a MAJOR argument for them. It was Democrats who also justified Slavery in the South and they asked the same question about who will pick the cotton. We can do better.

Black South Africans on average have higher HDI than Nigerians living in Nigeria.

Black Americans are richer and have higher HDI than Nigerians living in Nigeria.

Nigeria contains 25% of the world's Negro population and in 2018 overtook India as the Poverty Capital of the World.

Haiti and Dominica Republic are two independent countries on the SAME ISLAND. Haiti at one point conquered and colonized Dominica. Today Haiti is a hellish failed state and Dominica is a stable, livable nation that constantly has to EXPEL Haitian refugees.

There's not a SINGLE Black dominated nation state that exemplifies high HDI and prosperity. Racism & Colonialism doesn't explain all that.

Good Luck to Nigerians.
Don’t intentionally misrepresent the parties. The democrats of the slavery era are the republicans of today. Everyone knows that those ideologies have shifted. Except you’re banking on non American Nairalanders not knowing that. So you’re using it in your argument. That’s not sincere.

And I disagree, racism is still a relevant factor in economics, therefore a racist person can still be credibly accused of racism without it being “self victimization” or whatever you guys like to call it.

Other than that, carry on.

Although I feel at this point, the conversation has been beaten to death. So I bid you good day.

Magnoliaa:
LMAO.

The problem with you guys...you, Gerrard and others like you is that you're actually not as "principled" or have your values rooted in reality as you'd like to think.

You're actually more more of a "sheeple," and fanboys, and detached from reality as the "extreme" leftists and socialists you like to point fingers at.

You hammer all the time that inequality is a "fact of nature," and then still turn around to insist that the people who got to the top did it through their sheer hardwork, will, personal effort, etc.

You guys will "justify" why institutions like colonialism existed in the past or why wars were waged (mEn hAd tO Be dOmiNaNt tO cOnQuEr LaNd), but in the 21st century, you want us to believe that the offspring of colonialists who are big capitalists today or came from a line of monarchs are rich because they've put in the work, and that other people are not like them is just because they are not doing enough.

Nepotism, crime proceeds, illegality, unethical business dealings, even backed by state power, doesn't exist in your worldview. (And I am not saying this is the case of every wealthy person).

You literally were arguing why two people cannot produce the same result in a similar job...so how do you reconcile that with the belief that "hard work can get you to the top?" When realistically, only one (or a few) person can be the best or the better?

If by virtue of nature/natural abilities, some can scale up, and be successful, then no matter social abilities or capitalistic tools other employ, then they just cannot measure up. You cannot believe that there is an 'inherent worth or equality/equity' to capitalism that gives people a level playing field, and that everyone who gets into the playground, and follows the rules, can replicate the same level of success as Bezos, and his kind and still believe that humans are not equal. So ultimately, capitalism WILL favour people who are suited for its dynamics. And if you believe everyone should have a personality or lifestyle required to be mega-successful in a capitalist world, or else they are failed in some way, that just says more about your small-mindedness.

In your only the fittest survive in a cutthroat world, where does your exchanging back and forth words with strangers on a forum fit in? Like you likely wouldn't survive in a world that stringently fit into your 'rules and machismo are the order of the day' perspective. The growth of humanities alongside the physical/material world has also made the world much more livable and enjoyable.

And you've shifted the goalpost.

The factor of generational wealth to success negates the claims of hard work, etc.

I mean, Maeve's question, and I assume we're talking about a baseline situation here, where all things are equal: what "hard" work does a CEO do more than the average, toiling workers under them?

What is hard work to a person who got a business funding running into millions from their will parents will not be hard work for someone is starting out fresh out of college and looking for a job, even in the same field.

By the time the college graduate takes your advice and rose up to become a CEO (which thousands of other college graduates will not), the founder who got funded who have more than trippled his wealth and then pass it on.

You can’t be serious. Tell me you are joking.

Because there’s no way you’re comparing a broken pipe to life saving healthcare that the health insurance promised to cover only to find a way to weasel out of at the last minute when one’s life is on the line. They’re changing their medication coverage mid term, changing what providers they accept , changing what procedure they’ll cover, all of this after their clients have signed up and paid for years.

When someone is on their literal death bed you’re saying they can go find another insurance company after they’ve been paying into the system they currently have for probably decades? How? With their now preexisting condition?

People are crying about how their loved ones died after being denied care then the insurance sends them a letter saying they’ve been approved for whatever lifesaving treatment they needed and had been begging for. The cruelty is the point.

raumdeuter:
They have their own metrics for approving and denying. The way they have denied some, they have also approved many and saved many lives

I had to fix it for a certain amount and lodge tenant in a hotel. I filed claims they told me I haven't met the deductible. I cursed them under my breathe and moved on
I knew they were right based on what I signed up for.

Elon promised this and took all the risk.
And if the business fails, what do you think happens?
You think he assumes the loss since he took the risk?

No. In America he’ll get billions of tax payer dollars in bailouts so that he doesn’t have to suffer the consequences of the risk he took that didn’t pay off. And who suffers for it, the general population. Because our money is being used to bail them out and subsidize them so they can keep saying they’re running billion dollar businesses.

The funds that we can’t put into healthcare because “who will pay for it?” The funds we can’t use to feed children in school because that would be welfare and welfare is bad. The funds that we can’t use to pay for maternity leave. Everything that the general population could benefit from can be done if billionaires were a little less greedy. If they hadn’t lobbied and basically bought out govt as their little errand boys.

The gap between classes doesn't matter. Liberals emphasize the gap to stoke envy and ginger up votes.

Jeff Bezos started Amazon in 1995 with $300K and is now worth over $100 billion.

Around that time I was in the lower working class and now I'm in the middle class. Someone who was in college around the same time as me now earns double my own income working for Amazon. Bezos started with a car and now owns private jet and yacht, me I started in the USA walking to work and now I own cars.

So what the hell does it matter to me or her what Bezos is worth? All three of us have gained significant increases in our wealth and well being. Which is actually the major advantage of liberal capitalism, that the rising tide of a free market lifts all boats. There should be no complaints about inequality if there's broad improvement in living standards. In fact that is THE economic definition of DEVELOPMENT, anyone can look it up.

And here's the other thing - there is NO SOLUTION FOR INEQUALITY. It's a condition of nature. Even in Communist North Korea the President sure lives better than the bus drivers. It's like complaining that the sun rises every morning. Again, what's the point? Really.

The research cited from Pew and other places was specifically meant to shed more light on the truth that the middle class is shrinking. Yes, but where are those middle class people going? The LONG TERM evidence in the USA is that more middle class people are moving UPWARD to the upper class THAN DOWNWARD to the lower class. It explains a lot.

As for Red States vs Blue States, the summary argument is simple and straightforward. Same argument I made to someone on this Nairaland who was going on and on about how Europe (I think Germany?) is better than the USA. Compare migration numbers.

There's an EPIC POPULATION MIGRATION away from Blue States to Red States. No, it's not the weather...check the migration pattern between Indiana and Illinois for instance. Here's a stunning stat for liberals - for the first time since the end of slavery, Black Americans are now LEAVING the State of Illinois and their major destinations are the Slave States of the Confederacy.

As for FINANCIAL CONDITIONS, anyone can look up the current deficits and general financial health indicators such as credit ratings of California & New York vs Texas and Tennessee. California is a financial disaster. This is big news RIGHT NOW ....I'm surprised at anyone citing Blue States as financially stable. Those states are broke and that's why they're taxing their residents heavily. Petrol Tax is set to go up AGAIN in California by 60 cents in the next month or so.

Ahhhh, wetin again? I don tire....there was the CEO thingy...

Well thanks for acknowledging they deserve more. They deserve whatever the market price is for CEO's. There's nothing else to say about that other than to encourage those who think they can do better to just go ahead and start companies based on their notions of equitable pay. This is one reason why labour unions are a joke. Why try dictating to management when they can get together and form their own company and implement their own rules? They have thousands of members and can easily raise the capital required.

Nigerians need to stop looking at the NOW and pay more attention to the HOW. The average CEO that you see is not a product of his or her effort alone. The point has been made over and over that SUCCESS is a generational pursuit. The bountiful RESULTS that have become targets of envy are the accummulation of labour, blood, sweat and tears invested over generations. That is how INHERITANCE works and it's not just money. Look at sports & entertainment, it's the same thing.

Notice how so many Asian Indian CEO's like Vivek Ramaswamy or top politicians like Rishi Sunak are children of medical doctors? The father of Kemi Badenoch is a medical doctor too. It takes a lot of work to qualify and practice as a medical doctor and then pour the accummulated capital into a child who goes on to achieve superlative performance. Again, nobody falls from the sky with capital.

Anyway I don tire. Death to Socialism, liberalism and leftism shocked

Good Luck to Nigerians.
Sorry Ibe I hate to break it to you that the improvement in your life doesn’t mean anything if a simple medical bill or ICU stay can render you bankrupt & homeless. Because both your lives got better in the time frame doesn’t mean the liberal capitalism worked in both you guys favor.

It may not matter to you what he’s worth, but it should matter to you that public funds are used to subsidize their businesses. You guys seem to look at the conversation like people are jealous of them. No we’re saying stop investing public funds into them because they are supposed to make life easier for the simple guy. We’ve seen that they don’t. Whatever profits they making isn’t going back into the public pot.

The billions he received in subsidies could fund a social program that helps make sure middle class families are not being effed over by a small illness or accident. And somehow he would still be a billionaire. His luxuries that he worked hard for would still be his.

You really want to compare blue states versus red states? After red states are getting subsidized by blue states?

Me sef don tire too.

Good luck to you.

The wealth divide among upper-income families and middle- and lower-income families is sharp and rising
The wealth gap among upper-income families and middle- and lower-income families is sharper than the income gap and is growing more rapidly.
The period from 1983 to 2001 was relatively prosperous for families in all income tiers, but one of rising inequality. The median wealth of middle-income families increased from $102,000 in 1983 to $144,600 in 2001, a gain of 42%. The net worth of lower-income families increased from $12,3oo in 1983 to $20,600 in 2001, up 67%. Even so, the gains for both lower- and middle-income families were outdistanced by upper-income families, whose median wealth increased by 85% over the same period , from $344,100 in 1983 to $636,000 in 2001. (Figures are expressed in 2018 dollars.)
The wealth gap between upper-income and lower- and middle-income families has grown wider this century. Upper-income families were the only income tier able to build on their wealth from 2001 to 2016, adding 33% at the median. On the other hand, middle-income families saw their median net worth shrink by 20% and lower-income families experienced a loss of 45%. As of 2016, upper-income families had 7.4 times as much wealth as middle-income families and 75 times as much wealth as lower-income families. These ratios are up from 3.4 and 28 in 1983, respectively.

Ibeokehie you’re asking people to read deeper?
Did you read the research you’re quoting from?
Because it sure as hell demonstrates the widening income gap between the lower middle class, middle class and upper class.

Also mind you that inflation makes it such that a person earning 100k today is worse off than someone earning 60k 5-10 years ago. While on paper they’ve become middle class, the hardship they feel says otherwise. So when you are trying to paint a picture, use all the colors pls.

Anyway since you republicans believe conservative policies favor the middle class. why are your red states financial worse off then?

There are also people who got insured, paid 5months premium got health conditions that the Insurance paid millions for. You cant say the Insurance company only does bad. On medical cost alone, Most Americans without Insurance wont get any form of health care.
For everyone who got their 400K medical bill handled by Insurance that is one good CEO there, For anyone whose car got totalled and the insurance paid back Thats is an example there
I didn’t say all CEOs are bad or that insurance is bad. Also didn’t argue that they should make the same amount of money as everyone else in order for life to be fair. We’re disagreeing as to what extent their compensation needs to be higher than the average person. It gets to a point where it’s unsustainable. And you’re often the one asking where will the money come from for this or that. Shouldn’t you be wondering where the money will come from for unsustainable CEO compensations? Because the money is surely not coming from their hardwork whether you agree or not.

They all got successful because they worked hard whether physical or mental, I wont reduce peoples effort especially those way more successful than I am.
no that’s why. But you can hold onto that belief

There is a saying in Nigeria "If e easy go do am". There are people you and I can screw over too and become wealthy. Do am if e easy
if only I could’ve been born into a white apartheid emerald miner’s family who stole/exploited the natural resources of a country for personal gain and then invested the money in America. Maybe I too would have found it easy

I can work as hard as I want, If I am not smart like him or see opportunities like him, or take risks like him plus get lucky like him. I wont be successful like him
Yes, You can be smart and work hard and take risks all you want. You can succeed too. But you won’t succeed your way into billionaire status without exploitation. The least you can do after that is to reinvest that into the Human Resources you exploited on your way up. Trickle down economics. That’s you guys’ slogan. They need to practice what they preach.
We are not a country that demean success, we celebrate success
We celebrate success. Not unbridled greed.

In your line of thought, we can ask what a Doctor does to deserve 350K per annum when he only spends 10mins with the patient while the CNA who does all the heavy work, cleaning shiit lifting patient only gets 50K per year
350k is 7 times 50k. Thanks for making my point. Because we can see how a life saving doctor is making 7x the lower paid worker. What’s the basis of comparing a billionaire CEO whose workers aren’t even making that 50k?

Did you charge insurance and then refuse to pay out when the insured came to make a claim thereby letting them die so that you could increase your wealth? Those are the examples of people who were talking about.

Those type of CEOs come in every sector not just the health sector. Their massive successes often comes from others’ sweat not because they worked so hard. As you can attest, you didn’t become Elon from working hard. Elon didn’t become Elon by working hard. They succeed because they screw people over. Over and over until the point of death.

Right now, planning as the pseudo president that he is, to cut people’s healthcare and veterans’ benefits to “minimize waste”. Veterans who fought for this country are going to die because Elon will fvck them over with Trump’ blessing. Then he’ll turn around and accept billions in subsidies from the govt because he’s a CEO who’s “providing value”.

If its easy let everyone be a CEO and apply their own money and acumen to run the business. Thats why its America, you can start your own and give yourself 300 times the pay

I have run a business before for over 5yrs I was pouring personal funds into it, I never got anything from it but all my staff never missed a paycheck before I shut it down

If for some reason the business turned around the staff who never missed a paycheck when I was going hungry will now ask why I am getting paid 300 times of his own take home?

Let him go start his own

There are companies whose owners are the CEOs so they invest their own money or credit to get things running
They are small business owners then.

On a scale of harm versus good, those kinds do more good than harm. They might be providing employment for 50-100 people in their community.
They’re not buying mom and pop stores out of business and pushing inferior products at 100% profit after they’ve capture the market. They are also not making 300% of what their average employees make.

When we boycott Kellogg’s and dem for example, those are the people we encourage others to buy from.

You know that’s not who we’re talking about when we talk about CEOs.

what's ukwa?
It’s a type of breadfruit with much smaller seeds than regular breadfruit. I’ve only ever seen it in the east. The seeds are what we cook and eat. Main method of cooking it is in a soup or porridge form. In a porridge, it has the same texture and mouthfeel as black eyed peas.

I think it’s very delicious.

But I don’t know if it’s something of an acquired taste so have an open mind if you ever come across it.😊
