I kinda understand. Especially if they’ve been together for very long. Your last paragraph is nothing but truth. You have to stay married because you want to, not because you need to. pansophist: It's common for those who have built their lives around their partner to find it difficult leaving.
Because leaving will seems like ripping off the earth under your feet, and there is no place to stand on. A shameful survival is tolerable it seems.
Hence its good for folks to enter marriage to complement each other, not depend solely on the other, that leaving becomes impossible due to having no identity. |

pansophist: All these toxic relationship where two people that should be tag team for life becomes cat and rat, waiting for a window to deal a huge blow to the other.
Why just not leave the marriage?
The enemy within is more dangerous that the enemy outside. When the enemy is your partner, you're thoroughly finished. People will rather die or go to jail than get a divorce . SMH |

You may be right. But I forgot to add I even purchased authentic seasoning items that I can’t find in regular grocery stores. Like Maggi, Ducros seasonings, my preferred brand of condensed milk. Small small things that do add up. You don’t think it’ll cost that much coming from Nigeria? But What about shipping especially with the cold items? Also aren’t things super expensive right now in naija? It could probably end up costing close to the same if you add shipping and I’m sure she added her shop rent and profit 🤭 Well all things considered I still think it’s fair. joseph1832: Lol.
200 Euros should be over 300 thousand naira. Do you know what I'll buy with that amount, and still have alot of change to spare to use to drink Jack Daniels and may be indulge myself with a little wet pleasure. Lol.
I won't even spend up to 100 thousand Naira to get all you got over here, that's if I'm in Lagos. Where I am, I won't spend up to 500 thousand Naira, hike, If I want, I'll go straight to the villages and buy them straight from the source, and it'll be way cheaper. Lol.
You guys spend alot on Nigerian foodstuff over there. I can't say if you will spend that much, if you ordered all those foodstuff from Nigeria. |

joseph1832: must have cost a ton. I hear African, especially Nigerian food stuff are quite expensive in the West.
I can imagine how much it will cost anyone living abroad, if they want to prepare black soup/Efinrin soup. It’s actually okay over here. I spent 200 euros at this Igbo woman’s store and I made egusi with goat, okra with cow leg and yam porridge from everything I bought. Still have ingredients (poundo flour, yellow garri, palm oil, sardines, dried prawns, crayfish powder, amala, pepper) left for other meals if I want to. I honestly think the price is fair considering everything. But When I lived in Washington state, nearest African store was very far away and super expensive because she was the only one in that area. I think it depends on what western country one is shopping in. |

pocohantas: 13 is just 3 years after 10. How do you mistake that for 20?? ... Let that person whose only 3 years older than 10 be the nurse or doctor they meet in the hospital at a critical moment in their life and you can see how clearly they’re able to spot the young incompetent age. Something about sex just makes them lose their logical highly mathematical fact-based non-emotional minds. |

pocohantas: It is only men that claim not to be able to identify minors. But they can identify supposed evening newspapers. If a kid talks, I know. Their mannerisms, I know. Their fingers, I know.
But I am not logical. So these signs might miss them... Their logic that they never seem to apply when needed They can’t identify a minor when it’s time to f**k but let that same minor be the driver in their public transportation vehicle or the pilot of an airplane they’re about to board or someone who was sent by an important company to conduct high stakes business deals with them, then they can immediately spot that this person is too young and unfit for the role. They really do know and I hate that they pretend because they think we’re stupid. Like what did they talk about on their so called dates? Just removing clothes and eating food? Nothing meaningful? No wonder some of them claim Nigerian girls can’t hold a conversation. That’s because at their big age of almost 30 they are trying to date 15 year old girls. I’m so happy that “she lied about her age” is not an acceptable excuse here in America. You will go to jail plain and simple. Next time ask for a valid ID, meet their friends, go out in public with them if you’re so proud of that relationship and see if they can drive, own their vehicles, don’t have a curfew, have a job, live on their own, pay their own bills etc. So many ways to tell when someone is a responsible adult. He wants us to believe this 13 year old wasn’t in school? Just SMH |

ozoono: She said 19 going to 20 And you sincerely can’t tell the difference between a 13 year old and 19 year old? Sorry I don’t believe you didn’t know. I can believe a 17 year old passing for a 19 year old But no matter how big a 13 year old looks, even if you (very unlikely) got deceived into believing she’s almost 20, the moment when she opens her mouth and starts talking, you can tell that’s a baby. Pls don’t play on our intelligence |

Even if I see somewhere as home, owning 8 houses or only 2 doesn’t make it more or less my home. It’s entirely up to the individual. I (we) have properties back home as well so I’m not against that. I do have a problem with not spending the revenue that owning multiple properties generates on oneself. But like you said, choices I guess . Gerrard59: As condescending as it sounds, well, it is the truth. Many adult males will eventually return to Nigeria at a later date.
It is part of the moving back to Nigeria I mentioned else there is no economic basis for owning plenty of landed properties in Nigeria when the ROI dwarfs the replicas in the US. But when persons believe in returning to Nigeria at a later date, they rather own such in Nigeria. Their choice anyway. He, just like many Nigerian males in the abroad, does not see Canada (the US might be different) as "home". We have tales of migrants who work abroad, save to build houses in their home countries. |

To add to what you already said, I don’t PERSONALLY know anyone that works 2 much less 3 jobs. I know it’s a very common saying on NL but the people I know have one job and it’s enough. But then again I have to put in a disclaimer that things can be different from state to state. Some states are notorious to be low wage states hence it’s possible the two-three job phenomenon might be more prevalent in their areas. I stand to be corrected on that. Just saying it’s not the norm they’ve made it out to be on this forum. People still have a life from my probably limited observation. megastu: Answer the question asked. How can you have 8 houses in Nigeria and living in one room and you think you are better than the ones who live in 4-bedroom houses with enough space for their kids to live and breathe well and do two or more jobs to sustain the kind of life they want for themselves and their kids.
You guys will just be opening mouth waa without knowing people's circumstances. |
Travel › Re: My observations about some of our japa brethren in North America by cococandy(f): 12:38am On Aug 12, 2024 |
Gerrard59: Many adult Nigerian males who emigrated while in their 30s do wish to return to Nigeria at a later date. That could be the reason. It is not the same for women. So, that could be why he mentioned gender in his response to you. Nope. He mentioned gender because he thinks he knows better than I do. Simply because he (like others) believe they are more intelligent than women just based on gender alone. That was meant to be condescending. But moving on, I get having a couple of houses for personal/family use. Or multiple houses (like he said he does) for investment purposes to generate revenue. But if he’s not earning enough from the investment to be comfortable. Enough to separate his living room from his bedroom at the minimum, was it worth it? What’s the point of money if you sleep where you eat and watch television etc. what about just leg space for cabin fever days especially in a cold country? What about potential Visitors? A small home office space? One room is for college students or someone starting out in life and building up to an eventual life they dreamed about. But If you (generic) say you’ve achieved what other people are praying for, when will you sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labor? That’s just my point anyway. I don’t want anyone to assume I’m telling a janitor to go buy a Ferrari on credit (according to NL stories, anyone can buy anything on credit 🤣). But sometimes people really need to do away with scarcity mindset. If you have something of value to provide, you can always get financial compensation for it. In that case, trust in your ability to provide value and stop sweating the small stuff. |
