If the govt can't run business or supervise those who run one, how will the govt run itself? This theory about govt not being able to run a business is from idiots close to seat of power who want to buy the country with what they have taken from it. That's why you see them using fronts to buy all privatized sectors and still can't run them. They cry about subsidy. Subsidy is not an issue if the govt buys directly from them at a profit and sells at loss. They want killer profit in exchange for shitty service they provide or all the money in the world for a normal service. Govt around the world do own and run businesses and ours shouldn't be an exception. |

In this thread about Nigeria Escaping The Phase of Economic Sabotage, I can bet Tinubu didn't factor In the impact of his own people on the economy when he made that claim about sabotage. Please someone should tell him Sabotage of the Economy is a broad phrase that covers over 90% of his policies so far among others like waste, leakage and corruption. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria’s Economy Has Escaped The Phase Of Sabotage – Tinubu by CodeTemplar: 12:56am On Apr 30, 2024 |
Economic sabotage is a broad term that covers activity of even a "first son" who takes presidential jet to play one stupid polo game. It covers use of unavailable funds to do unviable projects. It covers offices of first ladies who only spend money for a living. It covers retaining corrupt officials in key positions. It covers prioritizing security of mandate that's shaky by doling out funds for cars and N90bn to go stone what already resides in many(the devil). It covers 120 car convoy. It covers permitting agbero to extort civilians because they are partisans-for-hire but going after bandits who do same in principle.
Economic sabotage is not a phrase Tinubu should be using so openly. |
Politics › Re: Fuel Scarcity Persists In Nigeria Almost One Year After Subsidy Removal by CodeTemplar: 12:45am On Apr 30, 2024*. Modified: 10:49am On May 02, 2024 |
IbeOkehie: Fuel subsidy was not removed. The government is STILL paying subsidy on petrol and probably other fuels. Government simply raised prices.
Electricity was not privatized. Naira has NEVER been floated, not even once in Nigerian history. Government regulation of naira value translates to regulation of ALL PRICES in Nigeria. Regulation of prices suppresses productivity. Understand this and everything starts making sense. Yes, it's that simple.
Nigeria is a SOCIALIST country, that's why there's SCARCITY of fuel, forex, university education, electricity, gas and also rampant INFLATION.
Make una rest abeg. Government is still paying fuel subsidy. Scarcity will end when Nigerians start paying FULL PRICE for their fuel.
Good Luck to Nigeria. before you rant about what the masses enjoy and its crippling effect on economy or govt spendings, let's take a good look at what the elites enjoy. How can states sponsor pilgrims and think the masses they love to incite against themselves/opposition when seeking power with narratives of a rich country that can always feed them wont expect to be fed in someway(subsidy)? The FG who sees the big picture too and is suppose to go two miles before suffering the masses to go one are more wasteful than the states. They rival the states in non viability of projects, wastage, leaks, and corruption. So how will a sane Nigerian like myself accept we can't subsidize anything, but can pay our leaders more than US and China? Or that we can shell out N90Bn at federal level alone to assist pilgrims go stone a spirit being(the devil which already resides in most of them and functions through them) in a desert environment where alcohol is allowed? How are the masses suppose to understand the harsh conditions will be aggregated in proceeds taxes bring and used work for them? The major projects of this admin so far, a coastal highway and economic city, was any attempt made to carry the people along, even if it is just a poll contracted out ? You want me to trust such a wasteful govt with all the money in the world right? Nigerians are not perfect but are smart enough to protect their self interest from available information and facts they are aware of. |

nairalanda1: Which is where holding leaders to account comes in
The pilgrimage one, in particular, is wrong. But most NIgerians want it, and even christians agitated for their own and got it. Here we are.
Also, disagreeing with you does not mean I support the corruption of this government. As I have said here times without number, we have to hold our government responsible.
And corruptiuon is a bad thing, and the reason why it flourshes is because we are a resource dependent nation. Removing subsides and allowing the power sector work with profits , meaning we become more indiustrial and attract investment is a way of stopping corruption or reducing it...because if our economy is investment and industrial based, corruption threatens its survival....and thus it can't be tolerated
(That's how the chinese do it). meaning leaders should stop corruption and not lament about it or make the masses pay harshly for what orchestrated. |

nairalanda1: That's the issue, it isn't enough.
(It has never been enough).
Just for the jols, we produce slightly more crude than LIbya. We also have 20 times the populaiton of Libya...which is why LIbya can enjoy subsides while we cannot
If you want to blast the government, the fact is , the government has not diversifed our economy. Big nations like Nigeria need to rely on their brainpower to survive, not oyel. ...but can subsidize pilgrims, pay leaders more than America and china, and permit corruption. |

nairalanda1: .
Well, I believe that Lucy ain't got much on me tho.
Who are both industrial nations with huge revenues from industrial exports, and have good tax to gdp ratios with much higher gdps, meaning they have the cash for subsides, which aren't consumption based, except for the poor ,,the very poor (means testing in place).
At least the refinereis can make a profit. Ours could not. we too have crude to fill the tax and income gap. |
Politics › Re: Petrol Scarcity Worsens Nationwide by CodeTemplar: 4:05pm On Apr 29, 2024 |
nairalanda1: Even if we do all that...and we must fight corruption and maintain a lean government, it is not going to cause enough money to be generated for subsides
What is spent in Aso Rock for one year is ...ie the budget for presidency...200bn naira. Subsidy costs for this year may pass N10 trillion.
The problem is, if we want subsides that work, without getting us into debt (Buhari maintained subsides by getting us into more and more debt especially via ways and means)...we got to have a diversifed economy. And the only way we can do that is by removing subsides on power and petrol so that they make enough profit to work properly....
God knows I wish there was another way. stop telling demonic lies. Subsidy hasn't crippled china or USA. |

Bobloco: The real enemies of this nation are those who organized and sponsored the Ojota subsidy protests because the fuel pump price was N120 per liter but are now keeping quiet now that the pump price is over N1200 with the attendance scarcity. 120 a litre was around $0.67 and N1000 a litre of today about $0.76 so let's learn to be fair when making comparison. The govt of 2012 did not bring dollars from their villages, it is still same crude they sold to provide forex and thus keep the naira where it was then. Lets learn to critique with fairness. |
