grandstar: I am no fan of Tinubu. I am apolitical.
Many who ask what benefit has the money generated benefitted people just reeks of either ignorance or jealousy.
Lagos state has a good network of roads for instance when placed side by side with the neighbouring Ogun state. Many new bridges have been built which has enabled traffic move smoothly in areas notorious for traffic jams. The state has the first operational metro in the nation.
I am an estate agent and I move around a lot. Lagos is smaller for a start. Has so much money. Collects even more from taxes. Lagos and Ogun are very corrupt states, like Delta and Bayelsa. Using tax to build redundant road when the structure or infrastructures of the nation is shaky is a very malicious thing to do. The only reason for the projects Tinubu is doing, to me, is his personal gains. Industries/investors don't lack road or where to tour. They lack cost effective power. |

Point of correction : A northerner regrets voting Tinubu.
Like I always say, the man has no history of boosting GDP. Only IGR and that can be as a result of aggressive insensitive taxation of survivors. He was basically taxing people for money that changed hands and not for prosperity. Imagine if we all pay tithe and zakat for that and not increase. As long as he is concerned, paying salary and doing projects with substantial looting margin is his main task. |

Oldest brother, second born, completely useless to the family yet he will be claiming senior brother.
The money they spent on him alone is more than ten times the money they spent on the rest of us combined.
Worse of all, he claims to be born again and can carry bible for head yet doesn't see all these imperfections.
Like my mum said everytime I challenged her after she gives him things, "What can I do, am I going to allow him wallow in poverty when I can help him?"
As I was told by a wise person, "Don't be angry, he brought his luck from heaven and nothing you can say or do will change it." Stop relaying half story. Tell us the spiritual side. I am a living witness. You people should stop rationalizing witchcraft as laziness. After chopping money and enjoying, everyone is now a motivational speaker. Kelklein: Connecting the standard guage of the railways from the North to the South would have been a better and greater infrastructural wonder of our time.. in that way, foods, Cargo, fuel and persons would be transported cheaper from the North to the South and vice versa.. a very quick win that would have been.. just link the Itakpe station to Abuja station..
But understandably everyone wants to embark on projects not for National interest but for prioritized personal interest..
The second Naija bridge was one of the legacy projects of the last administration.. that administration didn't award the contarct to a company they had vested interest but instead followed due process in the award, even though you can't completely eliminate vested interest in Nigeria's procurement processes. That presidential initiative project got a national buy-in and everyone can see the results today. Time would tell how this one would pan out. rail that can be blocked and used t deny the south food to buy. |

Politics › Re: FG Cuts Electricity Supplies To Niger, Benin Republic, Togo Over Domestic Supply by CodeTemplar: 3:29pm On May 07, 2024 |
omohayek: There is absolutely nothing foolish about it. Those neighboring countries actually pay market prices for the power they receive, so it only makes sense for the privately-run power companies to prioritise these fully-paying customers if they want to cover their own costs.
What is truly foolish is to expect highly indebted private companies to continue to domestically dole out underpriced power indefinitely while denying them even the opportunity to make up for some of their domestic losses by profiting from customers in neighboring countries. Where exactly are the profits of the power companies supposed to come from? Domestic users who regularly bypass meters rather than pay even unrealistically low prices? The highly-indebted FG, which itself owes the power companies billions of Dollars, and is already squandering what little is left from debt servicing on petrol subsidies (subsidies that most Nigerians can't even acknowledge as still being in place)?
99% of Nigerian commentary on this power topic is powered by nothing more than functional illiteracy and an over-inflated sense of entitlement. Nigerians suffer in darkness because Nigerians are unwilling to pay what it truly costs to reliably generate and distribute electricity. No amount of populist tinkering or "fighting corruption" will change this reality in the slightest, nor would Atiku, Obi or anyone else have had some magic wand to wave this economic reality away, whatever fantasies most of you might entertain. have the incompetent private companies come out plainly to demand govt hands off subsidy. If this subsidy is the issue, why are they always blaming transmission and generation units? Is it subsidy that's stopping them from also providing metres to measure what is being used? Just imagine MTN and GLO giving you estimated cal bill's everytime you use their service. Is that logical? What I see here is you pushing for similar pattern of error that attempted to eliminate petrol subsidy without asking questions about why it really failed. Power may be commanding higher amount in countries enjoying constant supply but the yearly profit of those companies are equally revealing of what it can cost here. Nigerians don't have the buying power to absorb what the greedy and incompetent buyers of power companies want to be extract from them in form of profit. I support regulation of power cost. Maybe not subsidy. I am sure when businesses start getting affect like petrol subsidy removal you will simply feign ignorance and argue blindly. |

Transfer of money doesnt always signify spending. It can be contribution or gifting or extortion or even loss. But Tinubu thinks it is cool to get a cut anytime people move money electronically.
This is a crucial time govt should be focused on planting season inputs to secure good harvest. Our economy is 50% crude oil money, 50% agricultural value addition. Instead they are chasing what they printed then wasted. |
