The owner is the problem. Todd thinks he can play Football Manager with a top team like chealse.
He should have appointed a permanent manager instead of wasting time with an interim. A permanent manager will have the rest games for this season and pre season to access situation of things and best options. Plus they should trim that their squad and start signing consistent performers and not prospects.

I already told you fight corruption. The fuel subsidy creates problems regardless of corruption. The money saved could simply be left with the tax payers but would likely go into other capital projects. Yeah they're doing welfare it doesn't negate the facts laid before your face. Their citizens pay for those welfare programs directly from their pockets and its not equal distributed either. You can be offended but facts are market solutions to fuel price lead to a better outcome. People will have more fuel available and more jobs will be created to refine fuel domestically. I don't understand why Nigerians whine about paying market price for fuel when poorer neighboring countries do it.
If you truly agree on fighting corruption, then the money saved from corruption be put to good use before talking about removing petrol subsidy.

As for the part about whinning about market prices. Are the developed nations paying market prices from what I posted here? Welfare only puts most of the money into their pockets directly instead of paying the sellers like our case, which then translates to multiple subsidies. Yet these same people are saying was should stop subsidizing production and move toward subsidizing consumption and corruption

Blue3k:
Petrol subsisidy removal serves to save the government money. In order to maintain subsidy they have to intervene heavily in the market with price controls. These controls lead to shortages because its set below the market price. It also hinders investment in the sector buy private sector because business wont see profits. When diesel subsidies were removed these ranging from corruption to shortages didn't occur. You kill two birds with one stone removing fuel subsidies. You can still fight corruption and get rid of the subsidies.
You regurgitating needless fact and drawing illogical conclusions.
There will be more money in govt hand but what about the corruption that's everywhere including where the saved funds will be used?
To add to the nonsensically conceived though, those pushing us to remove welfare are seriously doing welfare.

You get my point Those asking us to remove arguably our most evenly distributed subsidy are maintaining far weightier welfare. Taking the subsidy removal saving into already bastardized sector of the economy will only lead to one thing - change in who steals the money.

Corruption is in all sectors and taking subsidy removal saving into already corrupt sectors of the system will be worse than what is on ground.

Are you ready to pay 1/4 of your money to sustain these welfare programs?
The point here isn't tax increase but about whether petrol subsidy, arguably the most evenly distributed intervention from govt to all citizens be scrapped because of corruption? Corruption is everywhere and the solution is to handle the petrol subsidy corruption. Not pretending that change in hands handling the funds will do any magic.
To answer you still, high taxes will be accepted by most Nigeria if there is no corruption involved.

Canadian example from Wikipedia.

The Canadian social safety net covers a broad spectrum of programs, and because Canada is a federation, many are run by the provinces. Canada has a wide range of government transfer payments to individuals, which totaled $145 billion in 2006.[46] Only social programs that direct funds to individuals are included in that cost; programs such as medicare and public education are additional costs

Indian example from Wikipedia.

The government uses the unique identity number (Aadhar) that every Indian possesses to distribute welfare measures in India. As of 2020, the government's expenditure on social programme and welfare (direct cash transfers, financial inclusion, benefits, health and other insurances, subsidies, free school meals, rural employment guarantee), was approximately fourteen lakh crore rupees ($192 billion), which was 7.3% of gross domestic product (GDP).

Subsidy is fraud against the poor and you are yet to see it. How many poor people have vehicles. The only thing that affects the poor from subsidy removal is relative increase in transport fare and foodstuffs that are not local migrated poor.

I really consider your scare monger about subsidy removal as a threat to Nigerians against supporting the removal of subsidy which a see as political motivated.

Our major concern is to establish a working government that is working for every cadre of individual in the society.

A government working on actually subsidizing transportation for the poor and not creating more amenities for the rich while the poor are driven away from the city because of high cost of living brought by their development agenda that is focused on beautiful cities rather than beautiful people.

A government that is focused on doing investing hugely in refineries and actually running it effectively as an enterprise and not a civil service oriented business. A workforce that is more concerned about their beauties and official outlook can hardy give all it takes to establish a working enterprise.

A government that is out for business. It annoys me to hear that governments do not run businesses. Nigeria government needs to be starved of taxes and duties so they know what leadership is all about. How can an unproductive government lead a productive nation. We should have government owned industries in fabrications, constructions and processing working efficiently to solve both national and economic problems.

We need much more from an effective government. But every government that has come are only working borrowed template from countries whose challenges are different from ours.
Subsidy is not a fraud. The frauds are the people who could block the border against food smugglers but allow petrol smuggles to go through. Before you reply with an epistle, read about welfare schemes in more advanced nations.

In my opinion. If it is done properly, it should improve the economy, the naira should also appreciate to about 200 to the $1.

I assure you that naturally, price of petrol will fall within a year. If the local refinaries are cheaper, they will kick out the importers from the market.
Corruption knows no limit because it is driven by greed.
The case of Dangote and Ibeto is classic example of how local production and contribution do not solve integrity issues. Today there is local production but we are buying cement higher than countries that do not produce it.
