Honestly I feel I should sometimes share my story but I am not where I want to be yet. Op I started learning to code February last year. As you see me so, I don't have up to a year of work experience. It took me 2 weeks to get my first job when I started looking and it took around 2 months to get my first remote job. I have been working remotely since last year and I am what you will call a junior.

I also know other juniors who have had no problems finding jobs at all. Learn the frontend well. When I got my first job I knew only frontend, build projects solid projects o not to to do app and calculator. Apply to jobs on job sites. There's always vacancies for programmers everyday. You can use LinkedIn, indeed and hotnigerianjobs to research.
Thanks for your response. That's very encouraging. On the solid projects u mentioned, I will like your ideas on that and other guidance. Here is my whatsapp 0706.8.362508#

Hello sirs n madams in the house. Few weeks back, I bought a core i5 PC so I could start learning frontend development and acquire more skills as time goes on. But I was having power issues so I managed to get a generator set. I'm firmly on the path to learn the required frontend technologies but I'm worried as I've learned on this forum that it's hard to get a job as a junior developer in Nigeria and that feeling is discouraging because I invested my savings to start this journey. What advice and suggestions do you have for me towards getting a remote job or would you suggest I consider other niches in software development.
Thanks for your advice.

Use 400K to buy a 4 GIG RAM Nvidia graphics card laptop with 16 GIG RAM download Unreal Engine 4 or 5 and start developing 3D characters for movies and game running live on PS4 PS5 or Xbox. Go to artstudio.com for jobs. If you're good and they employ you. They can relocate you from Nigeria
Hello sir. I just start learning software but I'm being from what I come across that software development jobs for junior developers, are hard to come by in Nigeria. I will like to know more about your suggestion above. My whatsapp is 0706.

go and put that money in a bank. now go on youtube and learn coding. then find remote work. or you can just buy a motorcycle and do okada. or you can buy 3 motorcycles and give it to 3 guys to ride for you and they bring you 10,000 each everyday. thats 30,000 per day

As I said, na money matter.
I started sometime ago but I stopped. I did the program for one month and gained about 4kg before I stopped. I initially thought it was something I can start and see result overnight, but I discovered that I needed to make it like a lifestyle —on a continuous basis.
I even imported supplements like whey protein and some other pre workout and post workout shakes . They were really expensive. So when I saw that there was no point continuing because I had exhausted my supplies and I ain't doing something reasonable that can be pumping me consistent cash, I say make I pause first till money start flowing.
To give you a clue of what type of eating you'd be doing, I used to eat 6eggs (3 whole + 3 whites) daily for breakfast. Weird right?
You'd also need gym membership cause you'd be gyming at least 4days per week.
The tin been show for my body for that one month o.... but you know, money to continue was a problem.
If you are really interested in starting the program, you can hit me up.
I'll give you both meal plan and workout plan.
I'll also personally assist you in importing the supplements you'd need (but they are damn expensive o).
Mind you, you don't need to give me any money to help you buy anything. You'd be doing all the purchase yourself, just incase you're scared of being scammed.
If you're really interested, hit me up.
I feel for people who are in my condition cause I know exactly how it hurts. Lol.
Bro please I need this. My Whatsapp 07..0six...6836))2508

Bro you labored and made sacrifices to go to the US for studies, not because u wanna sponsor her through a spousal visa. Let her carry out her own part of sacrifices to come over with you via study. She might not need or want a graduate degree but she should reasonably use the F1 route to move with you just like she wanna use the marriage route. This mumu behavior no make me like naija girls, the average American or European women will never act stupid or mad when you hint them you're not ready for marriage. They see that as an opportunity of not getting into toxic marriage due to partner's wrong timing/choice. Your girlfriend should even be worried you might have changed in some ways since u been in the US so she should be happy to use the F1 route and she she can have that chance of getting to know the "American you" before saying yes to your proposal. She should be proud of herself and think other good men overthere will woo her, if she believes she's good and beautiful, after you dumped her. I still dey look for naija girl sha wey get brain, hope I find one before I jand.

So many girls have been tricked into prostitution and human trafficking in the name of jobs in Dubai and other Muslim countries. Generally we niggas are more inquisitive and learned than most girls and that's why most of us don't fall victims of the evil black pimps and traffickers in our country. The best advice for the average Nigerian youth is to immigrate to Europe and North America with good skills or go acquire good skills there and live there. This country have buried more than enough talents already. Research and Travel if you got the means.

Very well said! I studied Mechanical Engineering in Uni, but I started learning programming years after I graduated. I didn't just learn wordpress, I learnt HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, Laravel, Angular, Vue.js, Node.js, Typescript, MySQL, NoSQL. I didn't go to school to learn them, I took many courses on YouTube and Udemy, and I did many personal projects to practice what I was learning and I was very consistent in my learning process. I didn't give up even when I faced many hurdles I found difficult to cross until I crossed them. From the day I started my first course beginning with HTML to the day I got my first job in the industry as a Junior PHP developer was about 13 months. After being on the job for about 6 months and I updated my CV to include my few months of experience plus the other new technology stack I had also learnt since I started my first job, I posted my CV online and updated my LinkedIn, and I started getting regular job offers from recruiters almost everyday. In order not to exaggerate, any week I don't receive offers from recruiters to accept their interview invitations for a job they have available, I receive nothing less than 2 invitations. There are some days when I receive up to 3 different invitations for job interviews and I haven't applied for any of them.

The point is this; be very serious with your learning. Don't go into web development just to learn how to build wordpress websites. And don't be a mediocre. Push yourself consistently and keep learning and practicing, and after a while jobs will start chasing you. Don't go into this industry so that you can get a job after 3months of training or even after 6months. You need to give it time and consistency. In fact, if I were to advice a novice who wants to start now, I will tell them to budget at least the next 18months of their life to tedious learning from courses and practicing, and to be honest, if they follow this rigorous procedure, even before the 18th month, jobs would be looking for them. Again, don't expect to be learning like only 10hours or less a week and be able to achieve this target in that 18months

Most of the good programmers in Nigeria today didn't study computer science.

Pcguru, a popular programmer on this platform didn't study computer science.

Dhtml18, who has now deactivated his account, another popular programmer here didn't study computer science. In fact, Dhtml18's case is very interesting, because he studied medicine and surgery, became a qualified doctor but he is not practicing medicine, rather he's programming and he has worked with many notable organizations.

Note: there is a world of difference between a web programmer and a WordPress installer.
Bro please kindly advise me on which path to follow in becoming a self-taught web(and mobile) developer. I'm ready to learn the whole day. I just need a guide on how to start and where I can get free resources for learning as I can't afford these bootcamp training in Lagos. Thanks

Okay! I'm not an Expert nor //a noob

This is a general advice!

Learn the basics of whatever program you choose very well, I mean very well, very well, I mean it.

Dont switch from one programming language to another language when you start...choose 1 and dive deep, from there you'll know what other things you need. (not everyone can learn and be good with many prog language, you'll find out if you can yourself, but not at the earliest stage).

Learn, build , Learn, build.....REPEAT.

Whatever language you choose, break down the topics and learn in details, I recommend Books and video.

Let's say you wanna learn Topic [array], read from 2-3 books, trust me, you'll learn more from books {my opinion}, cement the knowledge with videos, then practice, create a scenario and apply the concept. REPEAT!

You'll be overwhelmed with resources, that you'll think your head will explode, you don't need everything out there (select only what you think you'll need).

There are lot of people who'll say they know language A, B, C, to Z. Ask them to do something with B, they can't.

So, don't get stuck in the tutorial world, you need to break free from it very quickly, by putting things(whatever you learn) together quickly else you might not be able to find your way out.

Get a mentor, there's always an easy way of doing things that only those who are already in the game can show you.

Make Google and Stackoverflow your Best Friend, what ever problem you'll encounter, someone else has encountered it in the past.

Finally, shocked This road is not for everybody, only for those who can become addicted doing it..
wink
Do you mean hard-copy books or e-books?

download sololearn app and start from there. they teach mostly basics but it gets you out of the woods for more advanced stuffs. Start learning html, css, JavaScript, php, mysql and then you can move to maybe python or which ever catches your fancy.

After which you will be ready to start exploring frameworks and libraries like reactjs/react native, vuejs, laravel, django etc. At this stage, you should be building something real as you learn.
Thanks bro. I appreciate!

NOW give me your 100% attention and listen to a pro that has gained root access to NSA, NASA and US Pentagon server.

what do you wanna do ? Web or mobile , Frontender or a Backender , oh i forgot you can combine both - Full stack dev.

Web :

Now pick your tools : HTML, CSS , Javascript - boom you r a crawling frontender.

Hop on SQL, PHP , Node.js - you should be able to write a decent login page script.

Now practice , practice, practice and do a lot of mini project and maybe every month pick a complex project - just to hone your skill.

Mobile:

First pick Java, master the OOP concept well (Abstraction , Encapsulation , Inheritance and Polymorphism ).

do all these and get comfy with coffee embarassed

Now choose the platform you want to develop - iOS or Android

Android : Learn android development with java, kotlin is still a little foetus ok.
learn restFul web service and practice alot doing small sample project .

iOS - Learn swift and also master all it building block of app construction, learn it networking libs.

Resources - Goto Google now and type Angela yu.

SUPREMOTM:
Web and mobile apps?
Start with HTML and CSS, then later learn some JavaScript.

Note:
1. HTML is not a programming language; it is a markup language that you will use to organise your content.

2. CSS is also not a programming language; it is used for presentation. It is used to give an appealing look to your webapp/website.

The two of them are compulsory tools for web developer to work with.

HTML and CSS work together, so, you may have to learn a little bit of HTML only at first but you will eventually have to work with the two at the same time.

ALL the information you need on these two subjects are on Mozilla Developers Network(MDN). Type MDN on Google, and with notepad on your laptop, you can begin the journey from there.

Spend about a month of consistent efforts to master them then get video tutorials from UDEMY on advanced CSS3.

DON'T BEGIN TO LEARN JAVASCRIPT UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND ADVANCED CSS3 and don't touch bootstrap either until later.
Thanks so much!

When I'm on school break, I wanna embark on the journey to be a self-taught developer who can develop web and mobile apps. I don't have money for bootcamp training. Moreover the training centers are far from my locations. What and what do I need? Like free sites and daily hours to be dedicated to learning, amount of internet to buy per month and tools(if any). I'm using HP notebook. Please tell me what I should know and gimme a guide. Thanks.
